Phone-Case-dies

The next in Erin Lincoln's popular stitching series, these dies will create cases for many popular models of cell phones.   For the actual case, you simply stitch up the three sides of two die-cut rectangles.  You create a top closure with a snap or velcro.  All of the various details dies can be added to the case, definitely some fun designs to choose from!

The Details:

  • Phone Case die collection will be available for purchase on July 15th.
  • It will retail for $11.
  • Phone Case die collection contains a single die (4 wired shapes).  3-1/8" x 5-1/4" (overall case), 1-1/4" x 3-1/8" (closure strap)
  •  Fits the iPhone 5. Will also hold the iPhone 4, which is a 1/2" shorter (if you want a snug, exact fit at the top you can trim the top two holes off of the felt die cut from  the Phone Case Die with a paper trimmer.) The iPod touch is also a good fit.

Phone-Case-Details-dies

The Details:

  • Phone Case Details die collection will be available for purchase on July 15th.
  • It will retail for $22.
  • Phone Case Details die collection contains a set of 4 dies (2 wired shapes + 2 wired shapes + 2 wired shapes + 3 wired shapes).  2-5/8" x 2-5/8" (A), 2-1/2" x 2-3/8" (B), 2-3/8" x 2-1/2" (C), 4-1/2" x 3-1/4" (D)

Here is a great video that Erin put together going over the basics of these dies!

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!

Ombre Stitched Phone Case

I have had a thing for ombre lately and I decided to achieve that type of look with the diamond die included in the Phone Case Details collection!  The actual case front is cut from Smokey Shadow felt.  I thought this would be a good color that wouldn't show dirt too easily.

Stitching closeup

I die-cut two of each diamond from a rainbow of felt colors.  They include Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Simply Chartreuse, Limeade Ice, Aqua Mist and Ocean Tides.  They were each stitched around the perimeter first, then I filled in the centers with a bit of a decorative pattern using the same holes.

Edge detail

The edge is finished in a nice and neat blanket stitch.

Back

For a bit of contrast, the back of the case is made from Ocean Tides felt.

Down

I just love how EASY this was to put together and I look forward to creating lots more in the future for gifts!

Hannah stitching

When Hannah saw these dies she begged and pleaded to be able to stitch her own together.  She selected all of her felt colors and design elements, while I helped her use my Vagabond to cut them out.  She has gotten to be a pretty good seamstress and she stitched this together all by herself!

Hannah complete

Bright colors, hearts and rainbows!  Her design couldn't possibly be more *Hannah*.  If you noticed above the heart die included in Phone Case Details collection just cuts holes for doin beadwork, embroidery or other like techniques.  Hannah wanted an actual heart shape and she found that after you die-cut the "holes only heart" from felt, the exterior edge of the actual die leaves an impression that can be used as a cutting guideline!  Giving you even more design options!

I was hoping for more stitching dies!! That Erin is so clever and crafty! I love that the detail dies are priced separately, that way we can choose to use them with our coin purse dies just incase some of us need car-rolling-over-phone-protection-cases instead of these pretty ones! Thanks for the inspiration!!

What a cute project…and I love it that the kiddos of different ages can try their hand at it. Felt was my original medium of choice waaaay back in 1968 when I bought little squares for a quarter and cut out clothes for my little plastic dolls. It was the beginning of a lifetime of sewing and crafting.
