Stamp-a-faire 2013 Details

By June 23, 2013Stamp-a-faire

As announced during this year's anniversary festivities, Stamp-a-faire will be taking place on

Saturday, August 24th

as an online event. We are extremely excited about this format because it will allow ALL of our customers around the world an opportunity to participate!  In case you missed all of the excitement last year, here is a video showcasing some of the fun we had!

This year's online event will be all about whipping up recipes using paper & ink as we embrace a fun baking theme! A sprinkle of glitter here, a smidgen of homemade spray mist there and a little creativity is all it takes for an amazing learning experience! Customers who choose to purchase the supply kit will get an official Stamp-a-faire apron, mini kitchen utensils to be used with various techniques and more. One of our recipe boxes will also be included in the kit and it will hold some blank sketch recipe cards and color combo recipe cards that you can use to record ideas and Stamp-a-faire inspiration. Plus, we will have LOTS of free downloads for addition printable recipe cards during the event.  As an added bonus, we will be hosting an overall Top Chef competition for a BIG grand prize!  It is going to be an AWESOME event!

Each of our challenges along with the tutorials, videos & project ideas from the team, will be posted (on this blog) every few hours during Stamp-a-faire day, keeping you busy throughout the day and into the night.  Each post will have an InLinkz list provided for you to share your projects with the rest of the Stamp-a-faire participants worldwide!  The InLinkz lists will be open for submissions until Monday afternoon.  Gift Certificates will be awarded as prizes for each of the challenges!  It basically functions exactly the same as our Make It Monday Challenges, except you get dozens of videos distributed throughout the entire day!

Many of the challenges and events are geared around typical things you might do in the kitchen.  Here is a brief list of the challenges and techniques you will learn during this amazing event!

Various team members will share all the basics of tea staining different materials to incorporate into paper crafting!  This will include tea staining muslin fabric and our felt, playing around with coffee and a paintbrush and even using kool-aid to create colorful "stained" embellishments!

  • black tea bags (or some other dark tea)
  • leftover coffee/ground
  • small watercolor brush
  • kool-aid packets in various flavors/colors
  • cotton muslin fabric scraps
  • 100% wool cream or white felt

Learn how to create beautiful embellishments from Paperclay using dies and stamps. Paperclay is a unique clay that can be rolled thin, die-cut with our dies and allowed to air dry to harden. There is also a new Delight version of this clay which dries to be featherlight.  Coloring mediums can be kneaded into the clay to start with to tint it. Stamps or impression plates can be pressed into the clay to add pattern or texture. After the clay piece is dry, it can be painted or clear coated to have a glossy finish. The finished pieces can be used as card embellishments, layout accents, home decor projects or even holiday ornaments & tags!  There will be a few different tutorials to show you step by step how you can incorporate this into your papercrafting!

  • Paperclay and/or Delight Paperclay
  • small rolling pin
  • small spatula
  • embellishing materials of your choice, such as paint, glitter, rhinestones, etc…

Recipes will be provided to create your own custom spray mists using our ink refills!  Several design team members will showcase different ways you can use the mist on your projects.  You'll want to create this inexpensive alternative in all your favorite colors!

  • mini mist spray bottle
  • measuring spoons
  • small whisk
  • rubbing alcohol
  • dye ink refill
  • glitter or perfect pearls powder (only if desired)

We will be highlighting two amazing watercolor techniques that utilize sprinkles of salt to form resist-style patterns.  So fun and easy that kids are encouraged to play along!

  • ink refills or watercolors
  • small paintbrush
  • sea salt
  • white Elmer's school glue (or a comparable brand)

Customers select a color scheme recipe card from a download and incorporate the gallon, quart, pint principal taught by Betsy Veldman.  Several Design Team members will showcase projects they create using the skills taught here.

We're bringing back an old technique and giving it a fresh and modern twist!  Several team members will showcase shrink plastic projects and show you how to create unique accents for paper crafting projects, jewelry and more!

  • clear shrink plastic (we prefer Grafix brand, however any brand will work)
  • matte transparent shrink plastic (we prefer Grafix brand, however any brand will work)
  • small metal spatula (no plastic that could melt with heat)

We are excited to share a brand-new stamp set with you that won't be officially released until September 15th this year, but is being made available early to those who purchase a Stamp-a-faire kit.  "Scent-sationals" is a collection of images and sentiments all geared towards creating scratch & sniff cards.  A technique video will be shared on Stamp-a-faire day that will show you all the ins and outs of using this new stamp set.  You'll see how you can use mixes made with everyday kitchen ingredients and clear embossing powder to create unique scratch & sniff cards. Free recipe card downloads for the scratch & sniff combinations will be made available on the day of the event.

July 22nd-  Pre-ordered kits will begin shipping. The Stamp-a-faire general schedule will also be posted here on the blog to help aid you in final preparations.

August 16th- Official Stamp-a-faire schedule of events posted with complete details. Design Team members will share some of their favorite baked good recipes so that you can start planning your party day menu.  We will also begin accepting submissions for "Recipe Remix" projects from customers through an InLinz list here on the blog.  This is similar to the "Stamper's First Aid" challenge we organized last year. Customers have the opportunity to submit a photo of a project they have created that they feel needs a little something.  Design team members will each select a customer project to "remix" and recreate, providing pointers as to how you can improve your design skills.  More details about this will be posted on this day as well.  So start sorting through your projects now so you can have a chance to participate!

It is important to note that ANYONE and EVERYONE can participate in this year's Stamp-a-faire event for FREE, no required purchase is necessary, no registration is required.  However, to make the event more fun and help the various gathering around the world be more cohesive, we are making Stamp-a-faire Kits available for purchase.  There are two purchase options for this.

The first set of items available for pre-order for this event is the Stamp-a-faire Basic Kit.  This is a basic set of the Stamp-a-faire exclusive items a.  This collection includes the following…

We are excited to include one of signature white recipe boxes with a collection of paper crafting "recipe cards" that you can fill-in at your own leisure.  The box is white and made from sturdy white chipboard with a securely fitting lid (this is our egg box without the insert).  The color recipe cards have blank areas for 1/2" punched circles of cardstock and a 1-1/2" square inspiration photo.  The sketch recipe cards have a block of graph lines for your sketch and separate lines for making design notes.  You will get 50 of each of these cards (100 cards total) to tuck inside your box.  There will also be FREE recipe card downloads provided to everyone here on the blog before and during the Stamp-a-faire event.  You will be able to print these out at home, cut along the lines with your paper trimmer and add them to your box as well!

A small set of four measuring spoons made from stainless steel that you can permanently keep in your crafting area without worrying about cross-contaminating food in your kitchen!  Includes spoons for tablespoon, teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon.  These will be used often during the event, especially for the scented cards challenge and mixing mists challenge.

A small solid wood 5-inch rolling pin, perfect for using with the Paperclay for the Rolled Dough challenge.

A small 8-1/4" spatula featuring a wooden handle and stainless steel base.  Will be used often with the Paperclay and shrink plastic challenges.

A mini 5-inch stainless steel whisk that is perfect for whipping together paper crafting ingredients.  Will be used in several challenges, such as the scented cards challenge, mixing mists challenge and even the sugar coated challenge.

The much anticipated Stamp-a-faire exclusive set is a wonderful multi-step floral collection.  The patch of flowers, inspired by poppies, have several layers you can build on to incorporate several colors into your project.  The sentiments are all geared around reasons to smile.  With a few different font choices for "smile", you will be able to adapt the florals to almost any style or recipient.

This is one of the exact modeling materials that design team members will be using in their project tutorials presented on Stamp-a-faire day.  This non-toxic material is super clean to work with and picks up details beautifully.  It's extremely soft and easy to shape, mold, cut with our dies or impress with stamps or impression plates.  It holds its shape and air hardens to create an extraordinarily lightweight and durable finished piece.

$7 retail value.

The other modeling material that team members will be using in the Rolled Dough tutorials.  This is a unique air hardening modeling material that requires no firing in a kiln or baking in an oven. It is clean, odorless and easy to use. It feels similar to an earthen clay; however, it contains no clay in it at all!  This can also be used with our dies or impressed with stamps and impression plates.

$4 retail value.

This Clear FIligree Embossing Powder will be used to create the custom mixes for the scented cards challenge.  The fine grain of these embossing powders makes them perfect for adhering the small granular particles for the scratch & sniff elements.  1 oz. jar.

$5 retail value.

We searched high and low for the prettiest iridescent white glitter on the market and we are proud to now be carrying it! This prisma glitter is super fine too, so it works well for many techniques, especially sprinkled on images that have been stamped with the Essential Glue Pad. This 3 gram jar will last through dozens and dozens of projects and well worth the price.

$3 retail value.

Ink refills will be used for a few different techniques, including mixing your own mists and tinting Paperclay.  This kit option includes one 0.5 oz. dye ink refill in a Papertrey Ink signature color of our choice.

$4 retail value.

Design, cut out and bake shrink plastic for fun, instant embellishments and accents.  Shrink film designs will become half their size and strong plastic pieces great for adding dimension to scrapbook pages and handmade cards, jewelry, home decor and more. Easy to cut with die cut machines and punches. Decorate with permanent alcohol based markers (such as Copics or Sharpies), stamps and more.  Includes six 8-1/2" x 11" clear shrink plastic sheets and six 8-1/2" x 11" matte transparent shrink plastic sheets.

$12 retail value.
