Year of Flowers Die Collections and NEW! Expanded Newsletter Features

February 8, 2013      Nichole Heady      610 Comments

Welcome back for another day of anniversary fun!  As tradition holds, let's begin with a few more sneak peeks of what's to come!

Sneak-peek-10
Dawn McVey has created an absolutely stunning new floral set for you this month.  The incredible detail and the layers of petals that each flower holds is truly spectacular.  The coordinating dies make it easy to layer the bits and pieces to arrange your own amazing bouquets!

A quick note about all of the Year of Flowers dies…

In an effort to preserve the detail of the flowers and leaves contained in these sets, the dies were intentionally designed to cut  a minimal amount of an "edge" around each of the stamped images.

Some of our design team members selected their very favorite Year of Flowers set and created a project using the new coordinating dies!  Be sure to click through to each designers blog to see additional photos of the project as well as a complete supply list.

For my second announcement today, I am happy to introduce Lizzie Jones as our official Newsletter Editor.  She has been working extraordinarily hard behind the scenes revamping our monthly newsletter that goes out the first of each month.  There are so many incredible additions, you won't want to miss a single issue!  If you don't already receive the newsletter, you can sign up for it HERE on our website.  Now here is Lizzie to tell you more about what you can look forward to with future mailings!

Lizzie
Hello everyone, Lizzie Jones reporting for duty here!  Starting in March you'll be seeing a fresh look to the Papertrey News! The newsletter has been redesigned and expanded to give you even more inspiration and interaction than ever before. You'll see a couple of returning sections, but most of the content is brand new! Here's a little preview of what you'll find in your inbox in just a few short weeks:

Revisited
This perennial favorite is continuing through to the new newsletter. Each month the Senior Design Team ladies will be focusing on a previously released set. These features will show you the versatility and flexibility of stamps that may have found themselves on your creative back burner.

Customer-project-highlights
Our community is absolutely packed with talent! In the new Blog Hop Highlights and Make It Monday Highlights sections we'll be sharing some of our favorite customer projects from the previous month's interactive events. We'll also include links to the Make It Monday tutorials themselves, so you can catch or refresh on any technique you may have missed. Make sure to play along and keep your eyes peeled. You never know when you might see one of your submissions in an upcoming newsletter!

Hot-topics
In the Hot Topics section we'll be discussing trends in the industry and hot topics from our customer forum. If you're talking about something, we're interested! The section may also include features on products that are particularly on trend at the moment; perhaps highlighting oldie-but-goodies you already have in your collection.

Our-favorite-things
In the Our Favorite Things section we'll be highlighting the Design Team's outstanding recent projects. Some months there may be a theme and some months the projects will determine the focus.

Pretty-packaging
Who doesn't enjoy getting a gift wrapped in lovely packaging? Adding a little extra special decoration can make a present even more meaningful or put a huge smile on a deserving face. Whether you're looking for something sophisticated or whimsical, Papertrey has you covered! The Pretty Packaging section will be full of ideas and inspiration to help you keep all of your gifts gorgeous.

Top-pinterest-pins
We love keeping on eye on our Pinterest boards and seeing which projects are crowd pleasers. In the Top Pinterest Pins section we'll highlight the top Design Team pins from the previous month. We'll also link directly to our Pinterest page so it will be super easy for you to hop over and see all of the Design Team's projects organized by category (Birthday, Mother's Day, Wedding & Anniversary, etc).

Studio-storage
Who couldn't use a little help getting organized once in a while? In the Studio Storage section we'll mention tips and tricks for crafty organization from customers and design team members alike. Think "Dear Heloise" for crafters. Have a tip? Email me! We have a new email address set up just for you to send me your bits of wit and wisdom – newslettertips@papertreyink.com. I hope to hear from you soon!

Color-play
If you're anything like me, you sometimes get into color ruts. In the Color Play section we'll feature an inspiration photo and an original project made with the suggested color palette. It's our fun way to get you thinking outside the box!

Upcoming-events
Another returning section in the updated newsletter will be our Upcoming Events area. Here you'll find reminders about countdowns, releases, and special events. You'll also find notes about holidays or other potential shipping interrupters.

So that's what you can expect from the newly revamped newsletter. I hope these changes have you excited – I sure am!

One of my favorite flowers is the violet. I remember when I was little, there were always just a few that popped up in the summer next to our house. Since there were only 4 or 5 of them, I wouldn’t touch them because I didn’t want to ruin them. I was always fascinated by the pretty purple and yellow colors.

One of my favorite flowers is the violet, because it reminds me of my Gramma. Violets are her favorite flowers and she once made me a bookmark with dried violet petals and a note to accompany it telling me about her favorite flower. I don’t own YOF: Violets, but maybe now I should add it to my list!

My favorite flowers are violets. My grandmother grew African violets on a heart of pine primitive table under a sunny leaded glass window. What’s not to like about a flower that has heart shaped leaves? They’re very “forgiving” plants, too. Although I don’t own this Year of Flowers set, it is on my wish list. I’d love to pair it with a sentiment that says “Keep Calm and Bloom on!”

Unfortunately I don’t have any of the Year of the Flower stamps. My favorite flower is the daisy because of its simplicity. My wedding colors (many, many years ago) were yellow and mint green, and the girls carried daisy bouquets. My favorite Year of the Flower stamp is daffodils because I love spring–and daffodils are always one of the first signs of spring.

Her family moved away and because our parents werent super close, we didnt get to keep in touch… it made me very sad, of course… so that became my favorite flower – because it reminded me of her. I love all flowers but one that is especially dear to me are hydrangeas. Growing up I lived in Hawaii and we could grow big, lovely plants full of blooms and I would make gorgeous Hawaiian head lei’s called Haku lei’s. You wouldn’t think such a delicate flower would dry well, but hydrangeas do and are beautiful that way too! My favorite Yer of Flowers from PTI is the Sweet Pea because they are so sweet!

Some of the flowers are a bit small, so I would love to win the full size sets of any of the flowers (and the coordinating die). I am not sure I have a favorite flower (I like lots of them for different reasons– carnations because they were my mom’s favorite, bleeding hearts because they grew in my grandmother’s garden, irises just because), but I do have a least favorite: lilies. Oh dear, I am conflicted about my favorite Year of Flowers! I really have two — Gladiolas & Violets. Like Heather, gladiolas remind of my grandmother – and my mother, and my brother. These were our family flower, planted at each of their homes, a sea of beautiful colors that returned year after year. And then there are violets – so versatile for any occasion in making beautiful cards.

We had 3 different colors (red, white, yellow) of roses along our back fence when I was growing up and I always thought they were beautiful. I loved being able to select my own rose for wearing to church on special occasions, so I am a little partial to those.

My mother’s favorite flower was Hibiscus so I have become rather partial to those since she is no longer with me. But honestly, I love ALL flowers and especially love seeing wild flower fields. Always puts a smile on my face.

I have a number of the YOF and enjoy them all equally. Very excited to see the dies come along!

Sweetpea holds a special place in my heart because it is the first flower I ever planted as a young girl. It was such a thrill to see it bloom. It’s too hard to pick a favorite flower since I love all flowers (with a few exceptions) and many have special memories associated with them.

My favorite (not sure if you would consider it a flower as it grows on a bush/tree) is the Lilac. I just love the colors, scent and little clusters of petals. These always remind of spring and my grandma’s house. It was surrounded by Lilacs and when they were in bloom the smell and the view was amazing. It brings back the great memories of being at grandmas.

Well, can I make it a tie? I only have one ‘year of flowers’ set and it’s the carnation. I find it very versatile for many occasions, which was why I chose it over some of the other more seasonal flowers. My second favorite though, for versatility and just overall ‘lovely-ness’ is the chrysanthemum. So pretty, the detail in the petals gets me every time. A die would make it even more ‘die-namic’!

I have a couple of favorie flowers…the water lily–something about them floating in water is just so calming and peaceful. I also gladioluses–they were my dad’s favorite and now whenever I see them I think of my dad. And lastly, peonies–I just love the way they look…almost like a rose but not quite.

The lily of the valley is so pretty, they are such a beautiful simple flower. And if I hit the lottery I would also need the daffodil stamp – love that! I so need to win a PTI gift certificate.

My favorite is the Aster and it has to be the American branch variety! Living in Sweden one can wonder why that is my favorite flower… So here is the story behind it: I’m born in the early September, and this very flower is almost the only thing that is impressive and still blooms here up in Scandinavia. But oh, wow, what a flower! It’s huge compared to the other Asters and it’s so beautiful. I still call them “my” flowers! That’s why I love the YOF Mums! I can colour them to look like my beloved birthday flowers!

One of the earliest stamps sets that made me fall in love with PTI was your Lily of the Valley stamp set. My grandmother was named Lillian, and always enjoyed being called by her nickname, Lil. I remember the first time I’d seen real Lily of the Valley flowers was in her backyard garden. I remember thinking that they were the prettiest, most delicate flowers I’d ever laid eyes on. I would love to be like Heather and grow some on the side of my house. Perhaps that will be a summer project! So excited about the content of the new newsletter! Rock it, Lizzie!!

So happy to hear there will be dies for the YOF’s stamp sets. I haven’t bought any yet because I don’t like to hand cut things. I love all flowers but of the YOF sets, the violets are amazing. My mother always grew these and they remind me of her. What an amazing release so far and the new newsletter sounds terrific!

My favorite flower is the daisy. I don’t have a story about why I like them, I guess I just do. I love the white daisies most. I don’t have any of the Year of Flowers stamp sets yet, mostly because I’ve been afraid of coloring them and making them look bad! But I have long admired them and do plan to start picking them up here and there. Happy to see the coordinating dies for them! That will probably give me the push I need to start including them in my stash. 😉

My favorite flowers are yellow roses. When I was in elementary school, we lived in a two story house that had climbing roses. We had a deck off the second floor dining room which the roses grew by. That deck caught the evening sun and would heat up the roses and we got the fragrance at dinner time. Amazing!

My favorite flowers are hydrangeas. I love all the petite mini flowers that form the big flower; oh, and the leaves! Hydrangeas have the best big deep green leaves with awesome veins. I also think it’s neat that they are a late summer bloomer – just when summer is coming to an end hydrangeas pop up and give us all another reason to smile. My favorite memory with hydrangeas would have to be my wedding bouquet! 🙂 The florist did an amazing job; it was incredibly beautiful. As for the PTI Year of Flowers sets, I like the Morning Glories set the most. (And no, I do not have it yet!) I like the shape of these flowers (and they have cool leaves too!) and the sentiments that come with the set speak to me. I would have a blast coloring these with my Copics!

I love carnations (and oodles of others!). Love the scent of carnations and that they last so long. I remember in grade school putting the stems in water with food coloring and then waiting for the flower to draw up the color to the petals. Maybe that counts as my initial “flower coloring” lol. I have them all I think. So bad about not letting sets see ink but I have good intentions. 🙂 The sweet pea is probalby my fave set, so delicate flowing. Thanks for all the contests and chances to win. Looks like a fabulous release ahead!!

I would say my favorite flower is the daisy. I love it and as a child I would love to play ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ with the flower stems. Sadly it wasn’t a great indicator of the success of my dating life and it kind of ruined the flower. As for my favorite year of the flowers sets, I love the sweet pea set and yes, I own it. Now that there is a matching die, I’ll add that to my wish list. Plus, on one side of our house, there was a lovely, old perennial garden that was full of lilies of the valley. I’ve waited to purchase any of these beautiful flower sets, hoping that dies would come along eventually. I’ve got a lot to catch up with! Peonies are one of my all-time favorite flowers. A number of years ago we found out that there was a place here in CT devoted exclusively to peonies (Cricket Hill Garden), and we visited soon after that. A couple of years ago we visited again, that time with a dear friend, and experienced it anew as she took in the beauty of this special place. Just yesterday, we heard that our dear friend has been given the news that her recent illness is now terminal. She won’t be with us that much longer, but those amazing flowers will continue to remind me of time spent with her. She also loves receiving cards, so I know where many of my creations will be heading in the next months. Thank you for providing so much beautiful inspiration!

I don’t own any of the Year of the Flower stamps but my favorite flower is the tulip. I was born (almost 60 years ago) on St.Valentine’s Day and that spring my Dad built a large heart shaped garden bordered with stones. He planted hundreds of Red Emperor tulips and every year from as far back as I can remember, that beautiful garden nearly glowed with the bright red Emperor tulips. People would drive by our house and take pictures of this stunning display. I was so proud because my Dad built that garden in honor of my being a Valentine baby and none of my siblings had a special garden that was all their own!

I love orchids because they are so beautiful and exotic looking and there are so many varieties of them. They also remind me of my mother. I also think what makes them extra special is the challenge in getting them to bloom. It’s such a proud moment when that happens! Unfortunately, I don’t have any of the Year of the Flower sets. But of them, I like the Marigold and Mums sets the best.

However, if we’re talking about my favorite from the Year of Flower series, oh my, that would be like picking a favorite child! I have all of them and I guess my favorite one to color is the glads. I made a card with this set and the sentiment “You’re the kind of friend everyone wishes she had.” A friend bought the card from me; little did I know that my sister would be the lucky recipient. I could not have picked a better sentiment, because my sister is exactly that kind of friend.

For her 75th birthday 3 years ago, all of my siblings (7 in total) and their kids (10 that could make it) went to surprise her in Georgia. It was so much fun! We had black t-shirts with a yellow rose on it with her name. She was smiling and crying at the same time with being so overjoyed from all of us being able to see her.
