Introducing Watercolor Wonder & Stylish Sentiments: Birthday

February 12, 2013      Nichole Heady      705 Comments

Today, we bring you a mix of watercolor inspiration and vintage-inspired typography……each lovely in their own right and lovelier still when they can used together.  Whether you watercolor regularly or have never picked up a paintbrush before, we hope to leave you inspired to let your inner artist come out and play.  Who knows?  Perhaps a masterpiece is just a brush stroke (or a stamped image) away!

New-Product-Details
Maile Belles is the leader in trends once again!  Watercolor Wonder features stamps made to look like brush strokes of paint.  If you're a fan of the watercolor look, but sometimes don’t want to bother with getting all the supplies out or waiting for the paint to dry, this stamp set eliminates all of those steps and lets you quickly stamp a watercolor or painted design of your own.

The Details:

  • Watercolor Wonder will be available for purchase on February 15th.
  • It will retail for $15.
  • Watercolor Wonder contains a total of 8 images.  The longest image measures 5 1/2" wide, the back and forth stroke image measures 3" x 1 1/4", the smallest image measures 5/8" x 1/2".

Here's a special new sentiment set perfect for birthdays!  Stacked sentiments featuring a variety of fonts are one of the trendiest things around, and now a whole set of them is at your disposal. This new set offers them in the form of extra special birthday greetings. With unique sayings that will make your projects stand out from the crowd, you won't want to miss out on this amazing set!

The Details:

  • Stylish Sentiments: Birthday will be available for purchase on February 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • Stylish Sentiments: Birthday contains a total of 17 images.  "May your birthday be filled.." measures 1-5/8" x 2".  "You are always thought of…" measures 1-7/8" x 2".  "A birthday is the first day…" measures 1-5/8" x 1-3/8".  "May your happiness multiply…" measures 2-3/4" x 1-1/8".  "Sending birthday hugs & wishes" measures 2-3/4" x 3/4".  "Wish Big" measures 1-3/4" x 1-3/8".

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!

Rainbows & Sunshine Card
For my first project today I dug out an old favorite, Friendship Jar Fillers.  I thought the paintbrush image in that set would be a wonderful companion for Maile's new Watercolor Wonder set.

Paintbrushes
I stamped the paintbrushes in True Black ink and then added various stroke images from Watercolor Wonder, making it look as thought the paintbrushes did the work!  I used Raspberry Fizz, Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, Hawaiian Shores and New Leaf inks for that.

Sentiment
I added this phrase from Up, Up & Away Sentiments, perfectly appropriate for the rainbow color scheme.

Down
The card front layer was attached to a Raspberry Fizz Card base.

Wish Big Card
For my next project I wanted to try adding smears of Stickles to the paint strokes to add a bit of sparkle, and I am really happy with the results!

Focal closeup
I stamped a few different paint stroke images to create this focal point.  On several of them, I inked the edges with a slightly darker color to add more depth.  I used Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Terracotta Tile, Simply Chartreuse and Ripe Avocado.  After I completed the stamping, I smeared a bit of Stickles over the paint stroke images, adding shimmer and shine.

Down
The sentiment, from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday, was added using True Black ink.  I dotted the "i" with a tiny star die-cut with the Super Stars Border die which was covered with Stickles as well.  Everything was mounted onto a Classic Kraft card base.

Joy & Smiles Card
My next project is super simple, but I really like the detail that the paint strokes add underneath the sentiment.  And the best thing about this design is that you could do it in several different color schemes and it would look just as good!

Sentiment
I stamped the paint stroke lines first alternating Aqua Mist, Spring Rain and Ocean Tides.  I added one little "splatter" element from Grunge Me to the right of the stripes.

Down
I added this sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday over the paint strokes using Enchanted Evening ink.  The white focal point block was adhered to an Ocean Tides card base.

Sun Will Come Out Card
I pulled out Scattered Showers and it's Additions set for my next project!

Paint drips
I stamped the paint strokes from the top down, to make it look as though it was "raining" in color.  There is a tiny single "droplet" stamp in Scattered Showers that I added in a few key places at the bottom of the strokes.  I used Harvest Gold, Melon Berry, Spring Moss, Aqua Mist and Summer Sunrise for these.

Umbrella
I die-cut and stamped the umbrella using Berry Sorbet ink.  The handle and the sentiment were added in Charcoal Palette ink.

Down
This was adhered to a Smokey Shadow card base.

Special Way Card
This card is another super clean & simple creation, but I love it all the same!

Sentiment
I stamped this sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday onto a crisp white card base using True Black ink.

Border
I then created a raised border strip by stamping paint splatters onto a strip of white cardstock and notching the end.  I used Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Harvest Gold, New Leaf, Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist and Winter Wisteria.

Down
The stamped border strip was then adhered to the card base with bits of foam tape for dimension.

Peace Fill Your Soul Card
Peaceful Garden is the next previously released set that I decided to pair up with Watercolor Wonder.

Strokes
I stamped the paint strokes first using Winter Wisteria, Hawaiian Shores, Blueberry Sky and Spring Rain.  Then I added this flower silhouette multiple times in True Black.  Last, I added  a shadow to the flowers stamping them again in Charcoal Palette ink.

Sentiment
I added a sentiment from Peaceful Garden across the center of the card front.  This was adhered to a Winter Wisteria card base.

Belated Birthday Wishes Card
For my last project I wanted to show you how you can create some simple "artistic striped" paper, just like you see on Pinterest frequently, using these awesome new paint stroke images.  I stamped the stripes in Fresh Snow ink onto New Leaf cardstock.

Sentiment
For the focal point, I stamped a strip of Aqua Mist cardstock with another sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday, using New Leaf ink.  This particular sentiment is one of my favorites from the set because I am always looking for a good way yo wish someone a belated birthday!  I notched the bottom of the strip and stitched a New Leaf button at the top.

Down
After adhering the sentiment strip in place with foam tape, I added a bit of Washi tape at the bottom to help lead the eye down the card.

I hope you have enjoyed all the creations that I have shared with you today!  Are you just itching to begin a watercolor project of your own?  Or perhaps you're in the mood to whip up a birthday card or two?  We would love to hear your initial thoughts on everything we introduced!  Please leave a comment on this post to tell us what you think of the new products and you will be eligible to win big!

Just loving both of these sets! I have behaved myself spending-wise, but I think these are definitely coming to live with me :). I don’t watercolor as much anymore, but I do love the look. I love everyone’s examples, especially Betsy – what a great idea with the embossing over the watercolored image!! Thanks for the inspiration!
