Introducing Boy Basics & Ad Sense

April 14, 2011      Nichole Heady      835 Comments

Today is a very exciting day here at Papertrey Ink!  This could possibly go down as one of the biggest blog posts EVER!  I have quite a bit to introduce to you, so let's get started!

Lisa's headshot
First, I have a new set from Lisa Johnson to share with you!

Ad-Sense-die
Ad Sense is a wonderful retro style set that can have o many amazing applications!  It all starts with a large frame which can be filled with a variety of sentiments and phrases that hinge from things that might have been found in ads long ago.  With the coordinating dies, there are many layering possibilities as well!

The details.

  • Ad Sense will be available for sale on April 15th.
  • It will retail for $15.
  • Ad sense contains a total of 18 stamps (1 large retro frame, 15 sentiments/phrases and 2 decorative elements)
  • A coordinating die set will be available for purchase separately for $7.  The set includes two dies, one for the large frame and one in a starburst shape that will coordinate with a few additional images in the set.  The frame measures 3-1/2" x 2" and the starburst measures 1" in diameter.

Heather's headshot
Heather Nichols has designed a perfectly appropriate collection of patterned paper this month that will fit in well with so many of our new sets.

Argyle-Socks-cover
This basic patterned paper collection is perfect for men and boys alike.  With a combination of both subtle and bold patterns that can be paired together or used alone, this collection holds lots of opportunity and possibilities!  This collection includes the colors Blueberry Sky, Enchanted Evening, Pinefeather, Kraft, Dark Chocolate and Smokey Shadow.

The details.

  • The Argyle Socks patterned paper pad will be available for purchase on April 15th.
  • It will retail for $8.
  • The Argyle Socks 8×8 patterned paper pad contains a total of 36 sheets, 6 sheets each of 6 patterns.
  • It includes the colors Blueberry Sky, Enchanted Evening, Pinefeather, Kraft, Dark Chocolate and Smokey Shadow.

I have a few projects using this set that I am extremely excited to share with you!

Gratitude Card

This first card uses some of the amazing paper in Heather's Argyle Socks colllection to set the tone for a color scheme of Blueberry Sky & Simply chartreuse.

Dies
I die-cut both Ad Sense dies from Kraft cardstock.  The large frame was stamped with the coordinating image in Fresh Snow and then filled with two sentiments from the set in True Black.  The small sunburst was stamped with the coordinating image from the set in True Black as well.

Focal closeup
I stamped a scrap of Blueberry Sky cardstock with Fresh Snow and Polka Dot Basics II, tearing across the top and bottom of the strip.  I adhered it to a block of Simply Chartreuse cardstock which I outlined with black pen.  I added a sentiment from Inside & Out: Thank You underneath the frame image.

Sentiment closeup
The starburst I die-cut earlier was added to the top of the frame with a foam dimensional.

Down
I love the vibrancy of this project and how it could be used for nearly any kind of recipient.

Feel Better Card
Now for something a bit more vintage.  I used another one of the papers from Argyle Socks as my basis for this card.

Focal closeup
The frame was die-cut from Vintage cream cardstock and stamped with Pure Poppy ink and the two sentiments added with True Black.  I die-cut Mat Stack 3 from Dark Chocolate cardstock and stamped it with a coordinating image from Mat Stack 3 Collection using True Black ink.  A thin strip of Men of Life paper (red) was added on top of the Mat Stack 3 layer.

Star closeup
The star (from Boy Basics: Simple Circles) was stamped with Pure Poppy ink and punched out with a 1" circle punch.  I added a starburst from Ad Sense to the center of the star with black ink and finished the center with a single black rhinestone.

Down
To help ground everything, I outlined the exterior of the patterned paper mat with a black pen and ruler.

Next on the agenda is our EXCITING Boy Basics lineup.  We've had hundreds and hundreds of requests over the last few years to create some images that are perfect for boys… from toddlers to teens.  The stumbling block for us in developing things like this has been how to make a stamp set or two versatile enough that it would have wide appeal.  So we decided to do things a bit differently and pick a few of the most highly requested themes for boys and create small $5 mini sets embracing them.  That way, it's easy to pick and choose the images you would like to add to your collection, without having to purchase one large set.

For today's post, I have assigned each of the Design Team gals one of the Boy Basics sets to work with.  Each set will be highlighted individually today with a few of my creations added to the mix.  Let's begin, shall we?

Game-on
First we will begin with Boy Basics: Game On.  This is a little set I designed as a fun take on one of the most popular hobbies for boys…video games.  It is done in a clean, graphic style that makes it so easy to work with.  Paired with some fun font combinations based on those used in many video game logos, you will get lots of mileage out of this set!

The details.

  • Boy Basics: Game On will be available for sale on April 15th.
  • It will retail for $5.
  • Boy Basics: Game On includes a total of 9 stamps (2 controllers, 1 directional control button, 1 rating box icon and 5 sentiments)

Best Game Card
First, a little card that could be used to celebrate an achievement or serve as encouragement.

Focal closeup
This Wii style controller was stamped on Kraft cardstock with True Black ink.  The edges of the kraft block were accented with the corrugated image from My Hero My Dad using VersaMark ink.

Labels closeup
I created some small labels using the rated block and one of the small sentiments.  The directional control button image was stamped int he center of a star that was punched out with a star punch.

Sentimetn closeup
For the sentiment block, I stamped Vintage Cream cardstock with lines from Mini Scrapbook Series: Library Ledger using Spring Rain ink.  The sentiment was then added with True Black.

Down
Red paper from Men of Life paper pad was the perfect pop of color behind both of the focal point elements.

Epic Year Card
Now for a birthday card perfect for a gamer.

Focal closeup
I stamped the X-box style controler with Enchanted Evening ink onto Hawaiian Shores cardstock.  The rustic circles from Grunge Me were added on top of it using VersaMark ink.  One of the paint splatters from the same set was added to the corner using Fresh Snow.

Sentiment closeup
The rated block was stamped in Enchanted Evening as well and trimmed out with scissors.  The sentiment was added beside it on white cardstock using Enchanted Evening ink.  The sentiment was trimmed into a strip with one end cut with pinking shears featuring a little stitching accent.

Down
The card background was accented with our Sunshine Impression plate.

Stamping splatters
I started by stamping these large paint splatters from Grunge Me with True Black ink onto a white card base.

Stamping star
I die-cut the large star from Seeing Stars die collection using Summer Sunrise cardstock.  I then sponged Terracotta Tile ink around the star to give it a graduated look.  I stamped the rustic circles pattern from Grunge Me all over the star with Fresh Snow ink.

Die
I die-cut the guitar from white cardstock and stamped it with True Black ink.

Sentiment closeup

Leap for the Sky Card
I created an adorable card that could be used for encouragement for a special little guy in your life.

Die
I started by die-cutting the frog from Simply Chartreuse felt and stamping it with the coordinating image using Black Noir ink.

Flip Kick Card
I created a fun birthday card with a perfect touch of skater grunge!

I die-cut the skateboard 3 times from white cardstock and stamped them with the rustic circle pattern from Grunge Me using a rainbow of colors.

Focal closeup

Sentiment closeup
The sentiment was heat embossed and then accented with a few of the dot lines from Grunge Me.  I also added a punched star that was decorate with the rustic circles stamp from the same set.

Down
The edges of the Ripe Avocado card front were roughed up a bit with my fingernail, with the lower right corner being curled up to help grab the eye down near the sentiment.

I am so excited for this release. I don’t make cards for guys very often, so I don’t have much in my stash geared towards them. Of course, that means when I *do* need to make a more masculine card, I struggle. Thank you for offering these $5 sets in such a wide variety. I love having more of the smaller sets to choose from!! The rocket, frog and circles are DEFINITELY going in my cart (and the guitar and skater set might just make their way in as well…..)

These sets are just amazing! I thought they would be in one or two big sets, but being able to purchase them separate, by theme, that’s just perfect!!! I totally love the teens stamps, the skateboards and the rock on guitar!! Most of the teens I know, love music and skating and these would be just perfect! I totally fell in love with the circles as well, these can be used for just about anything!! Love how you are selling more smaller sets, this way you pick what you like even more. Though I still love the big sets as well! ๐Ÿ˜‰ The only thing I miss with the smaller sets is a sticker for a cd case… I do store themin cd cases as well, and I don’t mind at all finding a case myself, but I miss the sticker! Maybe you could make a general ‘back’ sticker for the series you are designing now, like just saying Flower Fusion and not the numbers and then put in a sticker per set? This way we could combine the stickers on the cd case ourselves, with just what we bought… I know I would love that! Or maybe sell it separate? I would add a sticker to my cart for sure, I just love matching everything and organzing and now there’s info missing… I know, I’m an organizing-freak, but I think there are more like me, hi hi!
Looooooove this new release!!!!! Great job for all of you designing!!!
    Hugs, Wendy

I am just getting into cardmaking and can’t really afford to get all the dies that I would love to get, but will build them up slowly! I love all of these…

I was looking at the skater dude die and was thinking that you could easily turn that into a sentiment frame stamp set and also it totally looks like a bandaid shape, you could make a get well soon stamp set, with a bandaid stamp, lol!!

I am working my way up to making my first PTI order, but better check out the postage to Ireland, that is always the killer!

I have friends that do, so that is a good excuse to buy them, right:) I have to say one thing that really stuck with me was the monkey face in the rocket on Dawn’s card, so adorable. There are several sets that I will be adding to my collection, and of the course the die that I love so much. Thank you for making these smaller sets. I hate to buy a big set for only one thing, or not buy it because I feel I won’t use it. But these small themed sets are awesome!

I’ve never been so much into the girly girl cards and have always found it hard to find good stamps, etc. that work well for boys. I’m hoping my hubby can double my spending budget to fit in all these goodies. And what a great idea to split them up into mini sets, like you say we can get what we need to target the special men/boys in our life.

What fun sets for boys of many ages. I love that you decided to go with several $5 mini sets so that we can pick and choose which we like the best. I have all girls but still need some boy cards for friends and relatives. This will give me so many new choices. Everyone’s samples are fabulous.

To quote the “Skater Dude” set, I’m totally stoked about the sets previewed today. When I saw the sneak peeks, I was excited by some of them but concerned about breaking the bank and the “practicality” of the sets. My hubby is a “gamer” and my mother-in-law is gaga about frogs. I’d love to have these sets for them, but probably wouldn’t use them a lot otherwise. Now, with the affordable prices, these mini sets are totally reasonable and I can make some great custom projects for some of my favorite people. Oh, and thanks so much for creating the “Fly Away” dies! I bought that set with my father-in-law in mind and it will be so nice to be able to die cut the planes. It’s like you were reading my mind this month and even I didn’t know what I needed! Love, love, love the little felt froggie!

Wow! I am LOVING Boy Basics, especially Game on and Skater Dude! I have two boys, ages 9 and 11. Such difficult ages to make cards for, as most everything “out there” is too baby-ish for them (according to them). These sets are just perfect! After a little needed time to recover from my last Papertrey Ink order (it was big!), I will most definitely be purchasing Rock On, Skater Dude, Grunge Me, and, of course, Chevron Stripes (well, probably more than than, but those are what’s on top of my head right now…lol). What a FABULOUS release!

Indeed, you left me MORE than inspired… I am so excited for these releases. I guess I am especially excited about the grunge, rock -on and skater dude sets – they work so well for those teenage boys on my gift list but they also work for any kids, age 7 on up – they just appeal and thanks to all the creative ideas, I know I could make they feminine or masculine – edgy or just fun. Really, I have needed these sets and as always, they are so well executed!

Love the vintage look of Ad Sense. That will be fun to play with. I am very excited about the Boy Basics line up and will probably end up getting all of them. I appreciate the price point on these so I can add them to my collection a little at a time. Love Heather’s trucks, and I think the frog and rocket designs are too cute – but that makes sense since they are grown-up tiny treats images. Since my grown-up boys are still gamers (as is my daughter-in-law) and my youngest loves to play guitar – you know Game On and Rock On are high up on the list too. Beautiful projects across the board from the design team. Every set (that doesn’t make it into my cart this month) will be on my wish list!!! Hooray for PTI.

After going through all of today’s posts and projects my coffee is definitely cold. The two sets I have to have right away are Frog Hop and Skater Dude. Frog Hop will be used for an album for my daughter that has been in the works for years-she is almost 14. Skater Dude for my 16 year old son and the many cards he still likes me to make for his friends. I have 7 nephews as well and this months offering, offers me so much for the men in my life. Thanks.

WOW! What AWESOME Collections and a n awe inspiring idea to create them this way. We all know how hard it is to find Stamps for Male Cards and as suggested it would be awfully hard to cover Infant to Man in one or Two sets. I believe these single sets will do really well and at such a small cost for so much product, I know I’ll be buying many of these. Also having the Dies to work with them makes them so much more Creative. The work you have all shown is Amazing and I can see these designs covering all ages. Just what the Market has been needing for so long. Congratulations and Many Thanks for all your hard work to Inspire us. LOVE the Patterned Paper Pack too. Just so Boyish for all ages and looks. Many Thanks.
    Kind Regards,

I love the color combination, it just speaks to me ๐Ÿ™‚ Then there is the Boy Basics, Simple Circles. Wow, endless possibilities. I just love your card from yesterday Nicole but I also love, love, love Danielle’s card and the amazing creativity Jessica used on her card (I am going to try that technique for sure) I also like the Argyle Socks paper collection. Definitely great for the guys in our life but I’m thinking that it will fit wonderfully w/ my fall cards. Versatility is the name and you are the queens of the game. I LOVE the Rocket ship, I hope to see more of the itty bitty’s made big. Love all of the images. I have added the boarder die, because you can never have enough of those. And the one that caught me off guard is Skater, maybe because I do not have a skater in my fam (not yet anyways), But that seems like such a fun young boy image. Plus, I can see using the die for much, much more then just a skateboard.

I’m loving all the $5 sets. Please keep them coming! I’m especially excited about getting the Frog Set for a friend who loves them, and the skater dude to make cards for my 13yo son, plus BD cards for his friends.

This was quite the post! Loving the new paper. Must have. And my favorite stamps/dies here are the video game ones and the guitar. My husband is into video games and our 4 year old is starting to play them with daddy. It’s so cute. Can’t wait to use them in a scrapbook page. What a great deal for $5!
