Introducing Way to Go, Kiddo!

January 10, 2011      Nichole Heady      816 Comments

Today marks the beginning of an exciting, fun-filled release here at Papertrey Ink!  I'm thrilled to kick things off with another fantastic stamp set designed by Melissa Bickford!

Melissa's headshot
If you are anything like me and still have children at home, you always have a desires to reward your kids for achievements, good deeds and other things they do that should be celebrated.  A little pat on the back as well as positive encouragement can go SO far in molding the little people in our lives into good citizens in the future.   Melissa's new set, Way to Go, Kiddo! was designed to allow you to do just that.  With fun little images and perfectly phrased sentiments, you can easily pull this set out and create notes that will let your kids know that you value them and the effort they put into all of their achievements!

The details.

  • Way to Go, Kiddo! will be available for sale on January 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • Way to Go, Kiddo! includes a total of 26 stamps (1 whimsical tree, 2 flower grouping images, 2 single flowers, 1 mushroom trio, 3 single mushrooms, 1 caterpillar, 2 snails, 2 lady bugs, 1 journaling line block and 11 sentiments.

Lunchbox-Note-Die

I also want to introduce you to a special die that will make those little notes a little easier.  The new Lunchbox Note Die will not only prove useful with this set, but almost any other set you can imagine. And obviously, it's not just for lunchbox notes either!  The clever little flap that allows you to tuck together this tri-fold card, coordinates with all of out 1.75" images as well as the Limitless Layers 1.75" Circle Die Collection.  The possibilities are truly endless!

The details.

  • The Lunchbox Note Die will be available for sale on January 15th.
  • It will retail for $12.
  • The overall Lunchbox Note Die measures 2-1/2" x 6-1/2", creating a finished tri-fold note that measures 2-1/2" square.

Now, let's get onto some super fun projects!

Caterpillar Card
How about a bright and cheerful card to start us off?

Copics
I trimmed down a piece of white cardstock to start, stamping the journaling lines image from the set in Smokey Shadow at the bottom of the block.  I then added the tree in Dark Chocolate and the caterpillar in Black Noir Palette.

Caterpillar closeup
The caterpillar was colored with Summer Sunrise Copics and then I added a slight pattern to it using my Colorless Blender.  A bit of T1 was added underneath for shading.

Tree closeup
I inked around the top edges of the block with Aqua Mist ink.  The tree was paper pieced with Simply Chartreuse cardstock.

Down
I added a Double Ended Banner behind the block to help accent the sentiment.  A few rhinestones at each side help to add definition.

Doodlebug Card
Now, a little project using the new Lunchbox Note die.  Perfect for sending with my daughter's lunch tomorrow!

Die
It all started with a piece of Raspberry Fizz cardstock cut with the new Lunchbox Note die.

Stamping bugs
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the "flap" of this tri-fold card coordinates well with the 1.75" circle.  I used that size and shape as the basis for my focal point.  I stamped the journaling block first in Sweet Blush ink, then added the ladybugs in Raspberry Fizz.

Focal closeup
The sentiment was added with True Black ink.  I also stamped the entire Raspberry Fizz base with Polka Dot Basics II using Fresh snow ink.  A bit of True Black Gingham Ribbon was layered underneath the focal point to help bring the black used on the sentiment.

Opening
Here is the Lunchbox Note partially open.  It is amazing how quick and easy this look is to achieve with the die.

Interior
For the interior, I simply trimmed a small square, stamped it with the journaling lines once again and added the ladybug and sentiment, all from Way to Go, Kiddo!

Mushrooms Card
I have one more quick & easy project for you.  This one uses all of the adorable mushroom images from the set!

Focal closeup
I thought the previously released Spiral Notebook Page die would coordinate well with this set.  The focal point uses the mushroom trio image, stamped in Dark Chocolate.  I added a bit of color to them using the Aqua Mist Copic Trio.  I added a few glitter accents using my 2-way Glue Pen and Prisma Glitter.

Down
The background of the card was stamped with the larger mushroom in Versamark.  A few swipes around the edge with a Vintage Cream ink pad help to soften everything.

I hope you enjoyed all of the creative goodness contained in today's post!  This stamp set and die were SO incredibly fun to work with!  I will really enjoy using the different components to show support and encouragement to my kids over the coming years!  I think the projects I create for them will be wonderful little memories that they can revisit often, always knowing that there is someone who is very proud of them and all that they do!

What are your first impressions of this set and die?  Do you have any little ones, whether they be your own children, grandchildren or students, that you think would benefit from receiving little projects like this?  What do you think you would use this set for?  We would love to hear from you!  We have a fantastic prize package up for grabs that you could have a shot at winning just for sharing your thoughts with us!

I live away from my 5 yr old grandson. I think this is going to be a great way for me to play a part in his day to day life. If I put together a package of notes for his lunch kit, his mom can add it to his lunch box and tell him there will be a note in there from “Mere” just for him! I’m so excited to get started!

    Thanks for another inspiration!

What a darling idea! I live about 600 miles
away from my great nephew, and like Wendy,
I could send a bunch of these notes to his
Mom and he could look at them when he has
lunch. That way I, too, can be a more
“real” part of his life. Love, love, love

This is awesome. I have been surprising my kids with cards in their lunch boxes for years now. They are getting older – will be in middle school next year, and they tell me that they still love finding them in their bags. This set and die will make it even more fun to leave them messages of encouragement. My youngest is still at an age where they exchange valentines at school. I see the die coming in very handy to make original vlaentines this year! Thanks for this terrific set.

These are lovely, I could use them for my 8 year old (the others are at high school so probably not a good idea for their lunch boxes). Also it would be good for Sunday School kids and lovely cards.

This is adorable! My kids are a bit old for little lunch notes (I would totally embarass them…hee), but I would definitely use it to put little notes on their pillow or around the house where they could find them. All kids need to hear they did something well!

SO many sets are aimed at adults that its hard to find kid appropriate stamps. I really like how you put the tree together. It looks so real! And I also really love the caterpillar.

My children and grand children are adults and have passed the lunch box notes age. However I have a friend who is very sick so I am going to send her a card with these little notes and a message to open one each day. I will include words of encouragement because I want her to know how much I care about her. This is a great idea. At Christmas I do a 12 days of Christmas box for a few people and I will be able to use the die to create the notes for them.

I think everyone could use a lunchbox note or surprise note no matter their age and perhaps I may even hide some little notes for my family using them–how much fun would that be! I love this new set and coordinating die. I have two kids (6 and 3) and I think they would love receiving quick notes of encouragement from me. My son is actually having to work very hard to stay focused in class (he feels he struggles from being “too social” to concentrate). Anyhow, I’d love to be able to recongize his accomplishments with a surprise note in his lunch when he receives good reports. There are really so many ways to use this – love the whole idea, and thrilled that the die can make it all so easy!

Being a mom of 5, I can imagine all the fun times I will use this stamp set. LOVE the love notes die, and the terrific kid friendly stamps. I am always on the lookout for them, but don’t always have success. I am such a HUGE fan of all you ladies do!

I originally didn’t think I was going to need to have this set, but that caterpillar is just so darn cute! I make so many cards for OWH that i think it would be a great stamp set. Most of my cards are actually more adult so perhaps this set will teach me to branch out a little and make more cards for kids. As always, Nichole, thanks for the wonderful inspiration. I am almost always convinced to buy sets because of your projects- they are just wonderful.
