Introducing Healing Touch Sentiments & Year of Flowers: Carnations

January 12, 2011      Nichole Heady      857 Comments

Here we are on Day 3 of the January Countdown and we still have SO many exciting things to share with you.  There are TWO posts today, so be sure to scroll down so you don't miss a single thing!

First, the last stamp set to complete the Year of Flowers series… an ode to January's birth flower, the carnation.  I feel as though I was able to capture the delicate ruffled edges that grace the petals of this popular flower with the images in this set.  All of the layers of each bloom provide depth and dimension that will bring so much beauty to your projects!

The details.

  • Year of Flowers: Carnations will be available for sale on January 15th.
  • It will retail for $15.
  • Year of Flowers: Carnations contains a total of 6 stamps (1 large carnation, 1 small carnation and 4 sentiments)

Melissa's headshot
Next, a new sentiment set designed by Melissa Bickford.  This compilation of thoughtful phrases is dedicated to feel better wishes, something I know that my personal stamp collection has been lacking until now.  The beautiful font combination paired with the timelessness of the sentiments is something that no stamper should be without!

The details.

  • Healing Touch Sentiments will be available for purchase on January 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • Healing Touch Sentiments contains a total of 19 sentiments.

Limitless-Layers-2.5-Circle-Dies
In addition to these two fabulous stamp sets, I also have a new die collection to introduce to you today.  With the popularity of our previously released Limitless Layers 1.75" Circle Collection, we thought we would bring you the second addition that's even BIGGER and better.  This new collection starts with a base circle featuring a 2.5" diameter.  It then has 4 decorative mats to coordinate with it.  You will love this new size as well as the new possibilities it holds.

The details.

  • The Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle Die Collection will be available for sale on January 15th.
  • The set of 5 large dies will retail for $32.
  • The Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle Die Collection contains a total of 5 dies.  A standard circle that measures 2.5" in diameter and 4 decorative mats that measure approximately 3-1/4" in diameter.

Let me show you a few creations that I made using these amazing new products!

Catalog cover
Have any of you received the new spring Boden catalog in the mail yet?  I got mine yesterday and as I was flipping through the pages, I couldn't help but be inspired.  With each of my projects today I thought I would share my inspiration!

Quick Recovery Card
First, a soft-spoken, simple card perfect for setting a soothing tone for the recipient.

Inspiration
My inspiration was this shirt from Boden.  I loved the ruffles paired with the white & melon color scheme.

Copics
I started by cutting a piece of white cardstock with the standard circle from the new Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle Die Collection.  I just LOVE this new size and the large canvas it provides.  I stamped the smaller carnation from Year of Flowers: Carnations using Smokey Shadow ink and colored it with Melon Berry Copics.  I was really happy with the softness I was able to achieve by stamping the image in gray.

Die
I then used one of the decorative mat dies from the Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle Collection to cut a window from a square of vellum cardstock.

Focal closeup
The sentiment added on top of the carnation is one of the many useful phrases found in Healing Touch Sentiments.

Side
I was able to overlay the square on my Melon Berry card base to create a reverse "frame around my circular focal point.

Strings
The top edge of the vellum was trimmed with pinking shears, then stitched across the top in a single line, allowing the thread ends to dangle artistically.  I love the "raw" look this creates.

Down
A simple card that could be adapted to so many occasions!

Bright & Bold Get Better Card
Now for something bold & bright!

Inspiration
The vivid blues & greens found in this dress from the Boden catalog provided the inspiration for this project!  A color combination that is definitely out of my comfort zone!

Stamping
I started by heat embossing the small carnation a few times on a Hawaiian Shores card front with White Filigree Embossing Powder.  I stamped the large carnation on Blueberry Sky cardstock with True Black ink and trimmed it out carefully with scissors.  The leaves (from Turning a New Leaf) were stamped with VersaMark ink onto New Leaf cardstock and cut out with scissors.

Sentiment closeup
I added a row of text at the bottom of the Hawaiian Shores layer using Text Style II and VersaMark ink.  The sentiment (from Healing Touch Sentiments) was stamped on a strip of white cardstock with True Black ink and tucked under the edge of the carnation.

Down
I sponged just a touch of Fresh Snow ink to the center of the large carnation for dimension, then added a tiny trio of rhinestones as a finishing touch.

Peaceful Prayers Card
From bright & bold we go to soft & peaceful.

Inspiration
Neutrals are all the rage right now and I translated this outfit to read Soft Stone, Fine Linen & Kraft.

Embossing
To begin, I stamped both carnations onto Fine Linen cardstock and heat embossed them with White Filigree Embossing Powder.

Pearls closeup
A few small adhesive pearls were added to the centers.

Sentiment closeup
For the sentiment block, I die-cut the standard circle & scalloped circle from the Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle Die Collection using Kraft carstock.  The standard circle was stamped with Background Basics: Sheet Music using VersaMark ink followed by another sentiment from Healing Touch Sentiments in Dark Chocolate.  I inked around the edge with Fresh Snow to help define the standard circle from the scalloped layer.

Down
I cut the circle in half and adhered it to the top edge of the card, attaching it in place with a few random lines of stitching.

Wonderful Self Card
I thought this project ended up with a very modern feel that's stylish and "now".

Inspiration
This dress from the catalog served as my inspiration.  I loved the grays teamed up with a pop of bright pink.  To translate this scheme to my project I ended up using Soft Stone, Smokey Shadow and Raspberry Fizz.

Woodgrain
It all started with stamping a background with the carnations on Soft Stone cardstock.  I then colored them all in with the darkest Raspberry Fizz Copic, no special shading, just solid color.  After completing the coloring, I ran the cardstock through my Big Shot with the Woodgrain Impression Plate.

Die & stamping sentiment
For the sentiment strip, I cut one edge with the new Edgers #1 Die then stamped it with one of the heartwarming sentiments from Healing Touch Sentiments using Fresh Snow.  I like how the ink almost appears a soft gray color on the Smokey Shadow cardstock, coordinating with the Soft Stone background that the carnations were stamped onto.

Sentiment closeup
After adhering the sentiment into place, I wrapped a bit of Fresh Snow Velvet ribbon around the top of the strip followed by some pink embroidery floss.

Button closeup
A few Raspberry Fizz buttons were also added as a finishing detail.

Healing Touch is just what I have been waiting for – they are the perfect heartfelt sentiments. With so much going on with those I love, sadly, I see this being a much used stamp set. For now, it will have to go on my wish list – with a large portion of Australia under water at the moment (including some family and friends) my budget for stamps this month will be donated to the flood appeal – but thankfully PTI doesn’t retire stamps, so when I can purchase again, Healing Touch is first on my list.

Healing Touch is going to be a “must have” for me…unfortunately, right now, I have a lot of people in my life who need these sentiments.
The 2.5 Limitless Layers dies are awesome too. I use the original Limitless dies so much and I can’t wait to get the larger ones!

These cards are so PRETTY! Boden is my favourite clothing company though I can’t afford to buy very often – but their catalogue is always so beautifully presented I’m not surprised it inspires my favourite designer. I’ll be looking though it in a different light from now on Nichole!

The dies look versatile & will certainly be used frequently. The new sentiments will be helpful, I send a lot of get well cards. I have a difficult time saying “no” to any of the new items!

I like everything in this part of the release. Your year in flowers has been good every month. I like the carnation in the neutrals and the melon berry card with the vellum was very attractive. And I need the healing touch sentiments too. I am enjoying the first set of dies, but, I imagine that bigger could be better sometimes. I don’t know how you can clear your mind to create such beautiful cards, when you would probably rather be decorating you new home.:)
