10 Handmade Card Ideas to Say “I Love You”

Introducing Merry Little Christmas

October 10, 2010      Nichole Heady      710 Comments

Becky's headshot

My second post for you today is focusing on Becky Ohelers' latest set, Merry Little Christmas.  This charming little stamp set hold several bits and pieces to customize a tree for nearly any season along with a pair of whimsical birds to live in it!  You will love all of the options it holds and how quickly and easily you can make absolutely darling projects!

The details.

  • Merry Little Christmas will be available for purchase on October 15th.
  • It will retail for $15.
  • Merry Little Christmas contains a total of 15 stamps (1 tree trunk, 2 birds, 7 accents for the tree and 5 sentiments)

(#170)-Victorian-Lace-Border

I am also pleased to announce a new border die addition that I designs, to add to the Papertrey line-up!  The Victorian Lace Border die.  I am completely smitten with this pattern, which looks fabulous when die-cut from both paper and felt.  It's wonderful when paired with a bit of stitching on the ol' sewing machine.  Just fabulous in so many ways!

The details.

  • The Victorian Lace Border die will be available for purchase on October 15th.
  • It will retail for $7.
  • The Victorian Lace Border die measures approximately 8.75" x 0.75".

Now let me show you how I used these products to create some fabulous projects!

Merry Little Christmas Card
This first project features the sentiment that is the namesake of the set.

Focal closeup
I started with Ocean Tides cardstock.  I then stamped the tree trunk with Fresh Snow ink and followed up with the holly cluster at the end of each branch.  The two birds were also added in Fresh Snow.  Polka Dot Basics was then added with Versamark ink over the entire background.

Sentiment closeup
I cut two wavy strips of white cardstock for the bottom of the card and edged them in Prisma Glitter using a 2-way glue pen.  After adhering them together, I added the sentiment in Smokey Shadow ink.

Down
I just love how simple this is and how easy it would be to mass-produce it.

Shining Star Card

This next project is a more traditional red & white holiday card.

Stamping tree
I stamped the tree in Dark Chocolate.

Stamping dots
Then added the dot clusters with Fresh Snow ink.

Focal closeup
The bird is stamped in Pure Poppy with a dotted string image added under his beak using Fresh Snow ink.

Star closeup
The star was stamped on a separate sheet of white cardstock and heat embossed with Gold Filigree Embossing Powder.  I trimmed it out and added it to my project with a foam dimensional.

Sentiment closeup
I added some vellum hills at the bottom of the project and a sentiment strip fringed with Pure Poppy scallops.

Down
A simple card full of holiday spirit!

Just Hatched Card
This project has more of a "spring" feel, perfect for welcoming those newborn babies into the world!

Border die
Check out the Victorian Lace Border Die I used at the bottom of the focal point.  I love the effect this tool gives and I can think of so many unique things to try with it!

Nest closeup
I stamped the tree trunk with Haystack Palette ink and added the flower clusters in Sweet Blush ink, stamping more than one time per inking for a faded, layered look.  I then stamped the birds with Aqua Mist ink.  I dug out an old favorite, Birds of a Feather, and stamped the nest in Haystack Palette and the eggs in Spring Moss.

Down
I love mixing and matching sets like this, and I think these two in particular are perfect together!

Thank You Card
A simple thank you card that could be created in a variety of different color combinations.

Tree & berries closeup
This one uses Terracotta Tile & Simply Chartreuse.  Note that I used both the leaf clusters and the dot clusters on the tree together.

Sentiment closeup
The sentiment is from Inside & out: Thank You, stamped in True Black.

Down
A bit of Rustic Jute Button Twine is tied around the bottom as a finishing touch.

Tomorrow Card
I have one last project for you today.  This one uses the previously released Scattered Showers Additions.

Buttons closeup
I stamped the tree in Dark Chocolate and the leaf clusters in Ripe Avocado.  The sun from Scattered Showers Additions was added with Summer Sunrise ink.  I tied several Melon Berry buttons with Rustic Jute Button Twine and used mini glue dots to adhere them in place around the tree randomly.

Sentiment closeup
The sentiment, also from Scattered Showers Additions, is added to a little flag created from Aqua Mist cardstock.

Down
I think this is such a happy card and would be perfect in so many situations!

I hope you enjoyed all of today's goodness!  These products make it so easy to create simple, amazing projects with hardly any effort!  We would love to hear your initial thoughts about everything!  You could have a chance at winning this great prize package just for leaving a comment!

One of my favorite things about this company and all of the designers that work with it is that y’all are so good as showing us how to use one thing so many different ways. Seeing these five cards from one set is proof of that. The Shining Star card is simply perfect – that example alone would sell this set – the others are just icing on the cake. I also love the one with the button flowers for spring – it shows just how versatile any of these sets can be. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas with us; while it’s always fun to have new things, it’s even more fun to see how to use them.

PTI paper is lusciously thick…so I NEED these border dies because flimsy punches just don’t do the job. This border die has me thinking about Hershey’s chocolate kisses.
