My second post today introduces the next set in the Year of Flowers series that you have all come to love so much! This month's addition features larkspurs, a beautifully detailed flower that is just a dream to work with. It also features sentiments that are interchangeable between all the sets as well as "month" stamps that can be combined to make a calendar.
The details.
- Year of Flowers: Larkspurs will be available for purchase on July 15th.
- It will retail for $15.
- Year of Flowers: Larkspurs contains a total of 5 stamps (1 large flower and 4 sentiments)
- The sentiments are interchangeable with the other stamps in the Year of Flowers series: Violets, Daffodils, Sweet Peas, Lily of the Valley and Roses.
I have some beautiful projects that I'm anxious to share with you today!
This first card is one of my favorites that I created with this set. Plum Pudding & Kraft cardstock just make a stunning combination, don't you think?
I started by stamping the large Larkspurs on my kraft card base using Black Noir ink. I then used a q-tip with Plum Pudding ink to subtly shade each of the blooms. Using a small circular motion is the way to go with this technique to get a nice soft effect.
I then added a few pops of color with Copic Markers.
I edges the entire card front with Fresh Snow ink and then stamped "Thank You" from Big & Bold Wishes in the same ink. The smaller portion of the sentiment was stamped in Black Noir under that.
I love how soft and gentle this coloring technique is. It's easy to do and really helps you to achieve more looks with this stamp.
By layering the sentiment over the flowers just slightly like this, you are able to help keep everything cohesive and easy to follow with the eyes.
I am sure the same card could be recreated in other colors and have stunning results as well!
This is a really quick and simple card that only takes a few minutes to make.
It is important to heat emboss the sentiment first with White Filigree Embossing Powder.
And then stamp the larkspurs on top of that with Versamark. If you do not complete these steps in order, you will take a chance on the embossing powder sticking to the larkspurs and ruining the nice clean effect you should be going for.
It would be easy to create entire sets of these for gifts, perhaps using a variety of sentiments from the other Year of Flowers sets as well.
This soft pastel card uses the larkspurs in a bit of a different way than the other projects I have shown you thus far.
It is always important to remember with large images like these that it is okay to use just a small portion of it. Here, I just stamped the right-hand portion of the flowers onto this die-cut Spiral Notebook Page.
I used Copic markers to color in all the details.
After the coloring was completed, I swiped my Spring Rain ink pad around the perimeter of the notebook page. It gives it a soft sky look.
The focal point I created was layered on top of a Kraft card base, featuring two strips of Sweet Blush Grosgrain ribbon as borders underneath it.
The background of the card is stamped with an image from Turning a New Leaf using Fresh Snow ink. I also swiped the same ink pad around the edges of the kraft card cover to help keep everything soft and natural.
Next, I decided to challenge myself and create a card with these flowers that was more in the earth tones.
I stamped the larkspurs with Vintage Cream ink onto Terracotta Tile cardstock.
The sentiment is stamped on a strip of Dark Chocolate cardstock and finished off with a Terracotta Tile button tied with our 1/8" Silk Ribbon.
I swiped the Tea Dye Duo around the edge of the larkspur image before adhering it down to the Kraft card base.
I can imagine this project in other colors too!
This last card features standard Copic coloring techniques, one of my personal favorite things to do with all of the Year of Flowers sets.
To shake things up a bit, I used two different shade of orange for the flowers, Sumer Sunrise and Orange Zest. The leaves are done in Ripe Avocado.
I love this two-tone effect and look forward to doing it again soon with blues and purples!
I tied a bow using the backside of Orange Zest Satin Ribbon. The bow adds dimension & detail to the bottom portion of the card.

I knew this was larkspur from the sneak peaks. That is one of my favorite flowers. My great Aunt gave me some years ago and it self seeds so my whole flower bed has them popping up everywhere. They are colorful, soft and add so much to the beds. Great choice ladies!

I especially love the softly colored card in purple, the blue card with the outlines and white sentiment, and Heather’s card on her blog (with the faux “tea dye” background effect – stunning!). This is a wonderful addition to the collection. It is so nice that each month’s flowers have a different look…one stem versus two, more foliage versus less, etc. What a great prize to get them all at once.

What pretty cards! I love Larkspur- have a huge one with deep purple-blue flowers in my front yard- unfortunately, the flower heads keep falling over, even though I staked them and the earwigs have taken up residence in them this year- Yuck!

I love the Q-tip technique and WOW on Mish embossing the image with gold powder. You ladies have created some beautiful work!
I do not color a lot but have started to do more and these flower sets are great for my learning curve. I liked the plum pudding card and will definately try that technique, so pretty. I think I will try to put this flower into my mason jar and see what happens!

What a beautiful addition to the Year of Flowers series! I always think I won’t want these stamps, as I’m not a big colorer. Then, I see your samples and you demonstrate such amazing ideas which don’t require coloring. I’ve reached the point where I just want them all 🙂
What a beautiful set of cards. The thoughtful sentiments are the big draw for me. The flower is very pretty. My favorite is the soft pastel card. I can just imagine going to the mail and opening the envelope. It would surely put a big smile on my face.
I never thought I would be interested in the year of flowers, but I now have three of the previous sets and will eventually have them all, I am sure. Your cards using the larkspur set are gorgeous!

These floral sets are gorgeous. I don’t own any of them yet, but I want them all. I love the simplicity of the kraft and terracotta tile card. It’s so beautiful without being colored in. What a great prize too!

I have to admit that at first I didn´t think the Year of Flowers stampsets were something for me. Thought I didn´t have a thing with flowers. Well……. I was so wrong! I love them and to be honest, I would love to have them all.

I love the YOF sets so much but I am always torn whether to start collecting them or all the other wonderful sets your offer. I love all the wonderful examples with Kraft too…That always pushes my “buy” button!
My favorite is the kraft card.I just love the soft, subtle look of the plum pudding with the kraft card stock! The larkspur image is just perfect-they are blooming in my garden as I speak.
These cards are all so gorgeous! I do love the Ocean Tides one the best. The details on the flowers are just amazing… another fine addition to the series.

I’m so impressed that you’ve managed to keep the flower images simple, yet each month has it’s own distinctive feel. Some months are well suited to paper piecing, others are more suited to detail coloring…and ALL make a variety of stunning cards. I’m learning so much about just the techniques of card layouts from seeing your YOF samples each month. (And I HAVE to get larkspur!)

I just love larkspurs. One of my favorite places to visit is Larkspur, CA, so I have great memories of being in Larkspur enjoying the larkspurs!

These are absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE the first card. The idea of sponging the ink on with a q-tip is awesome.
I will always remember my Grandad sowing larkspurs in his garden and then allowing little old me to water them. He would have loved to receive one of these cards. This is a ‘must have’ for me in memory of my dear Grandad.

I love the look of the Larkspur and the fact that the image is large yet it works so well in just using a small portion of the stamp too! Because the flowers are small it give me a chance to practice my Copic coloring skills and try all kind of color variations.

I love the idea of coloring with q-tips, another great use for ink. The subtle effect using versamark makes such a lovely understated card.
