10 Handmade Card Ideas to Say “I Love You”

Introducing Year of Flowers: Sweet Peas

April 10, 2010      Nichole Heady      640 Comments

Many of you guessed it from the peeks… the next installment in the Year of Flowers line-up is the beautifully delicate Sweet Pea. (Just in case you missed the original announcement about this series, you can read more about it HERE)

The details.

  • Year of Flowers: Sweet Pea will be available for purchase on April 15th.
  • It will retail for $15.
  • Year of Flowers: Sweet Peas includes 10 stamps (1 large sweet pea vine image, 4 companion images, 5 sentiments)

I love how these turned out.  I think they may be some of my best drawings yet and I am very excited to showcase some projects I created using them!

All the Best card
My first project shows that you can use the individual bloom & leaf images to create some stunning backgrounds.

Background
As you can see here, I put both stamps on the block together and stamped them all over my Kraft cardstock using Vintage Cream ink.

Coloring single flower
I stamped them an additional time on a separate scrap of kraft cardstock and colored them in with Copic markers.  The Aqua Mist Trio for the flowers and the two darkest markers from the Ripe Avocado Trio.

All the best closeup
This "Wishing You" sentiment is part of the set as well.  I'm just loving the font combos for the YEar of Flower sets.  They seem to go with everything.  I cut out & adhered my single flower with foam dimensionals, followed by the leaves.  They really help to frame the sentiment and bring attention to it.

So sweet card
This second card uses the large vine image from the set.  This is SO fun to color!  I had an absolute blast!

Sweet peas in pink
I used elements from both the Sweet Blush & Scarlet Jewel Sweet Copic Trios for the flowers (R20 from Sweet Blush and R83 & R85 from Scarlet Jewel).

Finished sweet peas

And the Ripe Avocado Trio for the leaves.  Isn't it so pretty?  Sigh…… I love to stamp!

So sweet sentiment
The sentiment (also from this set) is stamped with Noir Palette ink onto our vellum cardstock.  I then used 1/8" Scor-tape at the top and bottom of the strip to add prisma glitter as an accent.  The vellum strip is longer than the card front to I was able to wrap the ends around to the back.  IT ended up giving the sentiment the appearance of floating just above the final colored floral image.

So…do you love it?  Are you itching to use it now?  We would love to hear your first impressions of this set!  Leave a comment today letting us know what you think and you could have a chance to win a fantastic prize package!!!

  • YOF: Sweet Peas stamp set
  • YOF: Daffodils stamp set
  • YOF: Violets stamp set

This AMAZING package has a $45 value!  This contest ends at 7am EST, Monday, April 12th, so be sure to leave your comment before then!  One winner will be randomly selected. Only one entry per person please.  The winner will be announced by noon the same day on our April Release Winners page.

This is the best flower stamp set yet and exactly what I have been looking for – elegant without being formal and something to practice using my Copics on. Unfortunately midnight for you is the middle of the working day for us in Australia so probably won’t be able to get my hands on it for another month as I know it will be SOOOO popular.

Beautiful cards!! Love, love, love the second one. You have totally changed my view of sweet peas! Some images that are meant for coloring definitely need to be colored and don’t really work any other way but not so with this series of stamps. You can simply stamp, color or paper piece and they all look great–love that!!

I have so many thank cards to make right now, and that sentiment will be perfect, I love it so much more than just “thanks.” :0)
