Introducing Inside & Out: Baby

January 11, 2010      Nichole Heady      774 Comments

One of the most popular, ongoing stamp requests we receive from customers is for more sentiments that are appropriate for the insides of cards.  We here at Papertrey Ink have been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a new line of stamp sets that are perfectly suited for just that… the Inside & Out Collection.  These sets will be filled with lengthier sentiments that will work well on the inside of your projects, as well as shorter sentiments that can go on the outside leading to the interior message.  These are sure to be a must-haves for any stamper like me who is sometimes at a loss for words once I get to the inside of my handmade cards!

The first theme we decided to tackle was BABY.  With a fun mix of whimsical & beautifully elegant sentiments, you will surely feel like you are putting the perfect sentimental touch to your baby projects.

The details.

  • Inside & Out: Baby will be available for purchase on January 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • Inside & Out: Baby contains a total of 18 sentiment stamps.

I have put together one very special card using this heartfelt set that I am extraordinarily excited to share with you.  I was sure to capture each step along the way so that you could easily recreate it on your own.  Let's jump right in, shall we?

On the Night You Were Born card
(click on above photo for a larger view)

Here it is… the exact project I was imagining when I chose to include this sentiment in Inside & Out: Baby.  The colors are a sweet scheme of Aqua Mist & Spring Rain.  A bit of glitter and a smudge of ink.  A few stitches here and there and you have yourself a beautiful card to introduce a new little baby to the world.  The central focal point is actually easier to create than you might think.  Let me show you step step…

Inking with aqua
First, sponge Aqua Mist ink pad  directly onto the top section of the white cardstock block.  Be sure to make the color a bit more intense at the edges to create a dramatic artistic effect.

On the night you were born stamp
Stamp the sentiment from Inside & Out: Baby in Smokey Shadow ink towards the bottom of the block.  Don't you just love this saying?

Stamped dragonflies
I pulled out an older Papertrey set, Pond Life, to use the small dragonfly from it.  I stamped it in Spring Rain ink three times within the upper portion of the block.

Glitter stars

I thought a few sparkly stars would be the perfect complement to the sentiment.  I pulled out a small star from our All-Star Team stamp set and added it a few times using Fresh Snow ink.  Immediately after stamping them, I sprinkled them with Prisma Glitter.  I also added a few small dots using my 2-way Glue Pen, sprinkling them with glitter as well.  The final effect is a subtly, sparkly sky.

Background stitches
(click on above photo for a larger view)

I wanted to be sure to show you the background I put together for my card before the focal point was added.  Half of it is from the new January paper collection designed by Heather Nichols, Pretty Pastels (see full preview in post below).  Can you see the detail in it?  Every single pattern in this collection is just STUNNING.  The other half is Spring Rain cardstock stamped with Polka Dot Baiscs 2 using Fresh Snow ink.  I stitched through the center using a zigzag stitch on my sewing machine.   Totally in love with how this turned out!

Finished cover angle

Here is a close-up of all the sparkle & shimmer in all it's glory.  *sigh*  So peaceful and tranquil.  You almost want to climb right in and lay down to gaze up at the stars…

Side view

The inside of a card is often neglected, especially here in my studio!  As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, the new Inside & Out series of stamps makes it easy to add a heartfelt message to your interiors.

Interior closeup
(click on above photo for a larger view)

The one used here goes perfectly with what I selected for the cover.  It reminds me of how sweet new babies are and the amazing future they hold within thier little souls.  Such a blessing!

I decided to challenge the team to use this new sentiment set both on a card and coordinating tag/wrap for a new little one.  And did they ever!  You will never be at a loss for a baby gift ensemble again after you peruse thier amazing creations!!!

I don’t know what ideas I’d like to see for further installments of inside and out. But I love the concept. Most of my homemade cards are given to my mother to send out, and she hates her handwriting, and thinking of things to say. So longer sentiments for the inside of cards is great in my book!

The 15th is taking forever to get here! I love all of the samples but I am really inspired to try Heather’s technique of brayering ink onto kraft cardstock and then stamping polka dots. I love the vintage look that gives the project! I would love to see some humorous birthday inside and out sentiments.

The inside sentiments are going to be so helpful! I usually leave my cards blank inside and write individual messages for each recipient. As far as sentiments for another occasion, any would be welcomed but a general everyday occasion set might be a good place to start.

“Inside and Out” is a great idea. Sometimes, you just don’t really know what to write on the inside ofa card and those longer sentiments work perfectly. In the future,I’d like to see a general stamp set for inside and out, like an everyday set that includes birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc.

Love the Inside & Out sentiments! I usually do the insides of my cards on the computer and it takes a long time to choose a font that goes with the front and then to line it up just right. How quick and easy you’ve made the insides of the card! What else should you do for Inside & Out? Birthday (a sweet set and a sassy set), wedding, get well, anniversary, graduation, thinking of you/cheer up … well every card giving occasion!

Yes, new babies are very sweet. I got to hold a “freshie” (as my aunt calls them) yesterday and she was so little, so light, so gorgeous and looked exactly like her older brother.

I’ve been enjoying seeing your creations with monotones of the same colour. Blues today, pinks on your “welcome little one” card from the other day (which by the way I totally lifted as the card I gave to the baby I mentioned above).

I guess it might be nice to initially focus your Inside and Out themed sets on occasions that we often find ourselves at a loss for words. Sympathy comes to mind. I spent days searching, re-writing and thinking about the right words for my Grandfather’s sympathy card.

I generally prefer my card insides to be blank, but sometimes it is nice to have an inside sentiment. Other themes that would be good for this might be something like ‘wishing you’ or ‘sending you’ on the outside, combined with various things for the inside like ‘a wonderful day’, ‘hugs and kisses’ etc.

Nothing compares to PTI. Every month your design team showcases the infinite possibilities of stamp sets…old and new. It’s amazing how all the sets can be used with each other to create simply stunning cards and gifts. I also love the innovation that just keeps growing.

I am looking forward to seeing the Inside and Out sets that will be coming our way. Ideas…hmmm….I would love to see Inside and Out: Quotes…or Inspiration. I am picturing big font words like Courage, Imagine, Journey, Believe, Dream, and more for the Outside focal stamp and a quote sentiment that goes with each word for the inside.

    Thanks for another great month!

Wish I had had this set when my grand
nephew was born in 2008. And the items that

outstanding. I think you have the best DT

Babies offer such hope that the new baby theme cannot help but open the creative floodgates. The designers took such different approaches, but all communicated wonder and love and all were inspiring. (I could probably choose a favorite if someone were threatening to take away all my vintage buttons, but since that’s not happening, I’m not saying.)

For future inside & outs, the obvious choices would be birthday and sympathy sentiments, but PTI already has some that work well. So while more of those would be great to have in the future, my first choice would be some ‘thinking of you’ type sentiments, similar to the approach taken with the quilt sentiments except more generic. And some sentiments with a little lighter approach would be great, too. Examples: ‘Wishing you no where to go and all day to get there.’ or ‘Smile… it makes people wonder what you’re up to.’ Thanks for reading.

I love having Inside and Outside sentiments – I’d love to see the same for Birthdays. I have the Birthday Basics but they aren’t exactly like pairs of sentiments for one card. I’d like to see a variety – like humorous, etc.

Oh my, you ladies have outdone yourselves this month. Each set you’ve previewed is phenomenal, and the coordination between the template release, Baby Button Bits and now Inside and Out – Baby…be still my beating heart. Thank you, thank you, for coming up with inside sentiments. Another inspired idea from PTI. As for future Inside and Out themes – anything…birthday, anniversary, friendship, holidays. Thanks so much for all of the wonderful inspiration.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this group post today! I have so many ideas running through my head now for some baby themed thank you cards that I was about to start making for a co-worker. It’s like this release was meant for me!! THANK YOU! I would love to see a graduation or anniversary set for the inside and out collection. Or how about something geared toward a son or daughter and growing up. Like how proud you are of them, or how they are growing up to be a wonderful person.

I have been searching high and low for humorous sentiments for the inside. As a matter of fact, one thing I mentioned yesterday on Lisa’s blog yesterday as far as things we’d like to see in the future was larger inside sentiments. I am so ecstatic to see this set coming out (ya’ll must have ESP or something….lol). I’d have to say my next fave’s are the baby carriage and the elephant card! Absolutely adorable!!!!!

Everything is beautiful, once again! “Inside” sentiments are great to really finish off a card. I had a wood set that had one “inside” for each general occasion (there were 6 or 8). I pulled it out a lot before I got tired of stamping things crooked on that last little step of a card–messed the whole thing up!! Maybe a ‘celebration’ theme for birthdays/weddings/other congrat’s. A ‘thinking of you’ theme for illness/sympathy/etc. And while I’m asking…how about an ‘encouragement/you can do it’ kind of theme? Thanks for asking!

Those are the two types of cards I most often make. I need to broaden my card categories and make more Just Because, Thinking of You, or Friendship cards. Whatever you come up with will be a must-have set!

What a “sweet” idea & one so badly needed by all of us — the insides are always hardest for me & can totally make/break a card’s impact! I need birthday sentiments (maybe both serious & humorous) and just some new “every day/occasion sentiments” that would fit a wide array of occasions. If anyone can come up with these, it’s you & your DT!!!

Now that was an inspired idea to do and ‘Inside and Out’ set! Sometimes I feel that my cards aren’t finished off as good as they could be because of the sentiment on the inside. It’s like the card looks beautiful on the outside and the inside is such a letdown. I am looking forward to the 15th, I tell ya’!

I thought it was lovely, but it wasn’t “my style.” Then BAM! you had to use that dragonfly and make me look at that set in a whole new light. I now LOVE it and have it on my list. Darn you, PTI! 🙂 As far as other themes that I’d like to see…I’d love to see a graduation/success sentiment set. Something that combines congratulations with classical success quotes.

Nothing captures the meaning of the season quite like a handmade card centered on the true Christmas story. This nativity-inspired design features the powerful verse from Isaiah 9:6 as the focal point, framed by a rustic stable, shining star, and peaceful palms. ✨

We love how the snowy hills add a soft shimmer, guiding the eye straight to baby Jesus nestled in the manger, a gentle reminder of hope and joy. Whether you’re creating cards for church friends, loved ones, or holiday outreach, this design shares the heart of Christmas in the most beautiful way. 💗

Clean, classic, and full of festive charm — this design proves that simple can still be stunning. The bold ornament anchors the design, while the bright holiday greenery adds that pop of color and seasonal cheer. And here’s the part we love: the Merry Christmas sentiment is die cut directly from the stamped panel, then popped up to create dimension without losing the flow of the design. It’s subtle, clever, and gives the card a polished, professional touch. Add a few scattered sequins finish it off with just the right touch of sparkle.✨
