Introducing Giga Guide Lines

October 11, 2009      Nichole Heady      858 Comments

Today's set is one that I have been DYING to introduce since I first prepared the files for our manufacturer's a few months ago.  Everyone and anyone that stamps NEEDS this set.  Honestly, it is probably my favorite of all time.  From now on when someone asks me what their first Papertrey purchase should be, I'm going to tell them that Giga Guide Lines would be perfect.

If you're new to this blog & Papertrey you may be interested in the posts I did for the two sets that were a prelude to today's introduction, Guide Lines & Guide Lines Two.  Click below to read those posts if you like…

Original Guide Lines Countdown Post

Original Guide Lines Two Countdown Post

Guide-Lines-size-comparison

First of all, I know there are some of you wondering what the difference is between the original versions and this new version.  The original Guide Lines sets featured decorative elements that all averaged around 3/4-inch in diameter.  The new Giga Guide Lines features nine of my favorite design elements from the original sets, only enlarged to be on average 1-3/4 inches in diameter.

The details.

  • Giga Guide Lines will be available for purchase on October 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • Giga Guide Lines contains a total of 15 stamps (9 images and 6 sentiments)
  • Many of them will coordinate with 1-3/4" circle or square punches.

Hang onto your hats as we explore this amazingly versatile, "must have" stamp set!

Tile grouping

For my first project, I thought I would show you how you can mix the original Guide Lines sets with the new Giga set.

Step 1

Most of the decorative elements in the Giga set were enlarged to the right scale to take up four grid squares in our Guide Lines 1 Grid cardstock, rather than one square like the original sets.

(If you are unfamiliar with our popular grid cardstock you can purchase it HERE and read more about it HERE).

This makes it easy to build entire sheets of pattern with hardly any effort.  The first step I did for the pattern I am creating today was to stamp one of the Giga elements using Aqua Mist ink in each appropriate area on the grid.

Step 2

Next, I went in with one of the images from Guide Lines Two.  Using Spring Moss ink, I stamped directly on top of all the elements I had stamped in Aqua Mist.  I love how having the two sizes allows you layering/ mix & match possibilities.

Step 3
For the final layer, I selected another element from Guide Lines Two and added it at the intersection of each of the Aqua Mist elements.

Finished tile pattern

The final pattern is a show-stopper and totally looks like something purchased at a store.  The thing I like best about creating my own like this, is that if I find a pattern I like I can create it as many times as I want and in any other color combos I might be interested in.

Best wishes card

I made three cards with my newly stamped paper, plus added some extras to my paper scraps.  Check out that big sentiment.  This set has several "giga" sentiments that balance out the large size of the giga design elements perfectly!  I heat-embossed the sentiments with White Filigree embossing powder on this particular project!  Love how it pops on the Aqua Mist cardstock!

Taping ribbon loop

I know some of you have been asking about my little bow accents lately. The particular version I used on today's card so super easy to create.  Start with some of our Spring Moss Twill Tape (or whatever other color you desire).  Use a small piece of Scor-tape to adhere the ends together to form a twill loop.

Threading button

Thread one of our small vintage buttons with Rustic Jute Button Twine.

Tying twine

Tie the button onto the bow on the backside, cinching in the twill tape as you go.

Finished bow

This little bow makes a fun little addition to a border!  I like to adhere them in place with a glue dot.

Tile trio

(click on photo above for a larger view)

Here's the three cards I made.  You can take note of the other sentiments I used from the set.

Wedding wishes card

(click on photo above for a larger view)

This wedding wishes card showcases how you can adapt the design elements from Giga Guide Lines with punches.  I already let you know how these images coordinate with 1-3/4 inch punches, but what happens if you use something smaller?

Punched square

I wanted a smaller "tile" looking embellishment for my  project, so I stamped my images onto Melon Berry cardstock using Vintage Cream ink and punched them out with a 1-3/8 inch square punch.  Note that it is a bit smaller than the image, but it just gives you even MORE possibilities!

Wedding wishes closeup

I used my We R Memory Keeps Corner Chomper to round the two outside corners of the end tiles.  This small touch helps to prevent the card from feeling too "square".  Small pearl accents were added to the center of each tile as a finishing accent.

Thank yous in a row

(click on photo above for a larger view)

Last but not least is a clean & simple design that I created.

Thank you closeup

I stamped one of the decorative elements from Giga Guide Lines onto Vintage Cream cardstock using Orange Zest ink.  I then stamped the "thank you" sentiment from the set across the center of the medallion using Dark Chocolate ink.  I die cut the sentiment with the Standard Oval Nestabilities.  A background was embossed using QuicKutz Retro Diamonds folder with another layer of Vintage Cream cardstock.  All of this was mounted on a Vintage Cream card base.  Don't you just love it?!!?!

Thank you ensemble closed

(click on photo above for a larger view)

I loved the card so much, I made six of them to give to a friend.  I needed a fun way to package them up, so I decided to use our Keeping Tabs template that was released last month.  This photo shows you what the portfolio looks like shut.

Open thank yous

(click on photo above for a larger view)

Here's what it looks like open!  Pretty amazing, isn't it!  The template includes two stylish pockets that are perfect for holding cards & envelopes.  It came together SO easy because even the templates for the decorative mat layers that I stamped on were included with the templates.  Everything was So easy and SO quick!

Not only do these extra large decorative elements work wonderfully on
card fronts, they look gorgeous on envelope flaps too!  We can't forget
the envelopes!

Looking down on thank yous

(click on photo above for a larger view)

As I said earlier, I put a set of six cards in mine, but you could easily fit ten or twelve as long as they didn't have many bulky embellishments.

I have been holding off on buying either guidelines set, but with this giga size, I just might have to. Love the extra big sentiments to go along with it, too. Really great projects, especially that simple orange card set–wow! 🙂

One of the many things I appreciate about PTI is that you are not an out with the old,in with the new company. You continually look for ways to incorporate and build on previous sets to provide more inspiration and versatility. I typically find it hard, especially with so many cute themed sets to move these background type design sets to the top of my list, but you demonstrate how they are such a worthwhile investment. Many thanks.

I have really liked what I’ve seen so far from everyone in the countdowns that feature this set. I have the original guidelines and I love playing with it to make patterns; this newest addition will really add to the fun–the larger scale has been so visually appealing as more subtle backgrounds. And your last set of cards today was stunning! –Elena

My biggest challenge is deciding what colors to use. 🙂 But I think what I like most about the Giga set is that you can use a stamp as a single element — you don’t HAVE to make a pattern for it to make an impact. After seeing your stunning projects, I can see that this set offers such marvelous possibilities. And what I truly appreciate is the way this stamp set (as well as many others) coordinates with punches. I don’t have the original guidelines yet, but Giga Guidelines is definitely a set I would enjoy.

I love that the Giga set fits in the lines of the original GL paper. What a neat way to create some stunning patterned paper. I can’t wait to get my hands on this set. I may just have to add the original Guide Lines, too, since I haven’t gotten that one yet either!

Guide lines I and II are on my wish list, but in fear of not having enough patience to print carefully I always put off the purchase. Giga version is perhaps simpler and faster to use, especially for newbies like me. Congratulations on your clever idea!

I love the larger size of the images in this set. I have drooled over the first two sets since they were released. I would absolutely love to win the prize as it has all three guide line sets in it. My finances are limited at this time so this would truly be a dream come true……

The new giga size will make for faster stamping in backgrounds and they are a wonderful size to also use as a focal image.

I have the origional guidelines and mainly use it for background building alon with the grid paper (that was a wonderful release).
