Introducing Star Prints

May 10, 2009      Nichole Heady      754 Comments

I don't know about you, but I am a huge fan of basics.  Those basic stamping supplies that you reach for over and over again, invaluable resources because they adapt to any style of project.  Star Prints (like our popular Heart Prints) is just that!

Star punch

For $24 you get a set of TEN patterned stars that all coordinate with either the X-large Fiskars Star Punch that we are adding to our store this month, or the large star punch carried by Stampin' Up!  The punch coordination allows you the ease of popping them up, overlapping & layering them and much, much more!  The set also includes several sentiments that accentuate the theme of stars!

Thank you ensemble

(click on the photo for a larger view)

My project today is a little thank you gift, perfect for a special teacher, co-worker, friend or practically anyone else that you might want to show a little appreciation towards.  I whipped up a batch of my favorite Cranberry-Orange Muffins and baked them in my mini muffin pan.  Nothing says "I appreciate you!" more than fresh baked bite-sized morsels! (You can snag the recipe HERE)

Completed lunch box

(click on the photo for a larger view)

This little lunch box was created with one of Lauren's templates for this release, Let's Do Lunch!  I am SO incredibly in love with this thing, I can hardly stand it!  It goes together in just two pieces and the directions are super easy to follow!  Lauren thinks of everything!

Lunch box front buttons

The closure was created with a button stitched to the front of the lid and another to the bottom.  A piece of crochet thread wraps around the two keeping the lid securely shut.

Handle side view

The fun thing about this template is that you can use all sorts of different things for the handle!  Cardstock, heavy-duty wire, ribbon, the list goes on and on!  I chose to use our melon berry stitched ribbon.  I used some brads and square buckles that I had on hand.  It's amazing how sturdy this box turns out to be!

Lunch box open

Inside this miniature lunch box is room for about a half-dozen mini muffins.  I tucked a bit of wax paper in first to prevent any residue from the muffins soaking through the cardstock.  Isn't it just the cutest!  I thought a nice piping hot beverage purchased from a favorite coffee shop to drop off with these would be SO yummy and so appreciated by the recipient!

Text stamping

Both the lunch box and card features a fun little pleated detail that I thought I would describe a bit more thoroughly.  I started with a strip of lemon tart Bitty Dot paper measuring 1.5" x 6.5".  I stamped some text on it using summer sunrise ink.

Pleated-accent-template

Download Pleated accent template

I flipped it over (right-side down) and used the template I created to mark the score locations in pencil.  I have included a download of the template for you to print out and reference when trying to recreate this look yourself.

Scoring pleats

I used my Scor-Pal to score the appropriate lines.  I also trimmed the bottom edge with some pinking shears.

Crumpling

I then crumpled the strip to give it a more vintage look.  (Can you tell I have been reviewing all of my back issues of Country Living lately!  I've been leaning towards shabby chic lately, haven't I!)

Finished pleats

After flattening it back out a bit and folding on the original score lines, I ended up with this.  I just love the way it turned out.

Card trim & button closeup

After adhering the pleats to my project I added a bit of trim that I made from spring moss cardstock and Fiskars Postage Stamp scissors.  I also added our splendidly luxurious fresh snow velvet ribbon.  It's 1/4" width is perfect when adding just a little something.  I liked the way that the three melon berry vintage buttons were layered too.  I'll have to try that again soon!

Star accent closeup

The star image was stamped in melon berry and punched out with the coordinating Fiskars punch.  The sentiment is heat embossed with White Filigree Powder.  Isn't that font combination YUMMY!  I have been wanting to create something with these fonts for a long time and this particular application worked out perfectly!  And this particular star with the flourish in it, is one of my favorites from Star Prints.  I love the way it looks paired with a sentiment to the left, so that the flourish almost looks as though it is accenting the end of the phrase.  Can't you just picture a few tiny rhinestones added to accent that flourish?  Just divine!

Thnak you card

(click on the photo for a larger view)

All of these elements work together to create a happy little card (and coordinating ensemble) that would be treasured forever!  Happy, sunshiny colors, just like spring!

While designing this set, I thought about ALL the different occasions and themes that could be celebrated when using stars!  I challenged the entire team to share projects focusing on some of the dozens of application that can be found within this one set!  I hope you enjoy perusing all of the fabulous inspiration that we have compiled for you today!

Since she’s been in the same building with her classmates since 3rd grade, I have lots of graduation cards to make. The projects made by Lisa for a graduation gift are fantastic! Oh gosh I have to confess… I had NO interest in buying a set of stars (which I was thankful for, since I was supposed to be cutting back on my shopping!)… HOWEVER,

The way these stars work with the other newly released sets is AMAZING. I am so pleasantly surprised at their versatility! The team’s projects are gorgeous, and now, it’s going to be terribly hard to resist my monthly splurge! Argh! 🙂

    Lovely! Great job PTI!!!!
