Announcing our NEW Design Team!

By February 2, 2008General

I run the design team for Papertrey Ink a little differently than other companies.

We do not accept submissions or run an open call.

Rather, the entire year I conduct what I like to call my open casting call, with the wide open space of the internet as the stage.  Searching for the perfect person to extend an invitation to.

I like to hop from blog to blog and see new faces paired with a fresh point of view.  I really enjoy going through the hundreds of submissions we receive each month through our Guest Star Stamper Contest and seeing new artists take a chance and give it their all.  Perusing through our Customer Gallery always opens my eyes to whole new perspective with the very images that I designed.

I am often asked, what it takes.  A list of characteristics comes to mind…

Unique, fresh, independent, warm, kind, positive, passionate, true and real

All of the ladies I am about to announce to you embody all of these things and I am honored to have them as part of the Papertrey family.

Everyone who knows me is familiar with my compassion for not only paper & ink, but people, especially family.  I think of each and every one of these women as an extension of myself as a business women, an artist and friend.  We openly exchange ideas & thoughts, all for one purpose.  To benefit the loyal customers of Papertrey.  I know you will love getting to know these women as much as I have.  Please be sure to stop by each of their blogs today and give them a warm welcome to their new home!

Genevieve Cassady

Bw_headshot_genyGenevieve first caught my attention with a submission she made to Guest Star Stamper.  She truly has her own style that is all her own and I find it quite inspiring.  She expresses her unique point-of-view with color and combinations that are a refreshing break from the norm.  She is an extremely warm person and a pleasure to speak with.  I know you will love finding ways to utilize her ideas in your own projects.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Genevieves_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  Clean, Adaptable, Ever-changing, Colorful, Balanced.  This is Genevieve’s favorite Papertrey project she created using Green Thumb!

2. What inspires you? –   In stamping my inspiration comes from reading blogs and looking at galleries, fabric, advertisements, and magazines.  In life, my little boy and my husband inspire me to be a better mother, wife, and to reach for my dreams.

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  From the very beginning Papertrey just felt right to me, the design was clean and balanced, the people have a passion for the company and products, and the mystery every month of the reveal made it all so exciting.   I enjoy using their products because of their versatility and most of all their quality.  I have many sets and products and have not had one single problem with any of them.  I love being able to  see exactly where and what I am stamping too.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Jennifer Ellefson

Jennifers_headshot_2I met her last year at CHA and have had the opportunity to brainstorm with her on a few occasions.  She is truly the warmest, most friendly women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  Her professionalism and passion is apparent in everything she does.  Her concepts & contributions will become invaluable to you throughout the coming months!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Jennifers_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –   I’m a very clean and linear stamper, but I will try anything (there is no replacing that WOW factor, no matter if it is my exact style or not!). This is Jennifer’s all-time favorite Papertrey project that she created with Spiral Bouquet and the coordinating digital kit.

2. What inspires you? –   I find a lot of inspiration in Pottery Barn catalogs, everything from how something is laid out, to the color combinations they show. When I’m feeling stuck, I love turning to sketches to jump start my batteries!

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  I love how Papertrey dresses up the plain into something classic and timeless – it’s kind of like Papertrey is my very own "My Fair Lady". The commitment to quality and innovation is second to none!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Lauren Meader

Laurens_headhshotLauren is truly an inspiration to me on several different levels.  Her passion & creativity is unrivaled and fresh.  Her personal real life experiences have taught her so much, and through her I am able to learn to be a better person, mother & friend.  She is full of energy, which always communicated through her blog posts.  I know you will feel the same as you get to know her in the coming months.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Laurens_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  I feel I can be very versatile.  I don’t think I fit into a specific "category", but would say that clean, simple, and finely detailed would describe me best. This is Lauren’s favorite (and first) Papertrey project she created using Butterfly Kisses.

2. What inspires you? –   I get inspired by patterns/colors in fabrics, advertisements, product packaging- you name it!  The whole world around me is definitely full of inspiration.

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  What DOESN’T excite me!  LOL!  I love the simple elegance.  The sets are so well designed, the ideas just flow out onto the paper.  I love that each set coordinates with other Papertrey sets.  I love that layered images are done with ease.  I love that everything is top quality.  I also like the way that many of the sets help you with not only card-making but creating handmade gifts as well.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Lynn Mercurio

Lynns_headshot_2Lynn caught my attention in our forums.  She was always so helpful and gracious towards other members.  Her enthusiasm during the release parties prompted me to visit the link to her blog.  Lynn has a keen eye for unique color schemes and embellishments.  I love to look at her projects and pick out little details that I become anxious to put my own spin on.  Her personality paired with her style makes her a perfect addition to our team.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Lynns_fav_21. How would you describe your stamping style? –  I don’t know that I have any one particular style.  The type of card I make all depends on who I am sending it to and the occasion.  It can range from elegant to cutesy. This is Lynn’s favorite Papertrey project using Spiral Bouquet Digital Kit.

2. What inspires you? –   Life in general inspires me.  I can get ideas from magazine layouts, advertisements, television, craft magazines, window dressings, nature…just about anything that catches my eye.  I’ll see something and I’ll start thinking of how I can incorporate things I see that I like, into a element for a card.

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  I love the versatility of all the sets.  I find that the sets are elegant, but yet can be adapted for just about any occasion.  It’s obvious to me that a lot of thought goes into each set that is produced.  I enjoy using Papertrey products because of the pure quality in everything they sell…from their stamps, card stock or embellishments…they are all top notch quality!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Becky Oehlers

Beckys_headshotBecky first impressed me with the elaborate projects she created for our Guest Star Stamper contest.  In addition, by just spending a few moments perusing her blog, I found dozens of inventive uses for our images that would have never crossed my mind.  Her presentation is classy and informative.  And her big personality shines through in all of her interactions online.  She really adds some spunk to our group and I am thrilled to have her on board.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Beckys_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  My style is clean and inventive.  I need to always look at an image in a different way from most.  This is how I begin to see different ways a design element can be used.  It is so exciting for me to work with Papertrey becasue it offers so much diversity within images.
2. What inspires you? –  Papertrey images.  My fellow designers and imagination.  I could walk into a book store and find ideas.  I was just at Starbucks today and all I saw were ideas.  The world is full of design elements if you just open up your eyes.
3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? – Papertrey has the most exciting images out there.  I enjoy working with them because they are fresh, clean and thoughtfully executed.  I admire the excellence within every product they come out with.  It is a real joy and honor to be here with the best of the best.  Incredible.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

So that concludes the introduction to the five new members of our team!  I also wanted to pay tribute to original fab five!  They have graciously agreed to continue with us for another year and we couldn’t possibly be more excited about the quality of the gallery we will be able to present to you this year.

Lisa Johnson

Lisas_headshotLisa is a one talented gal who focuses a lot of her attention on building relationships with professionals in the industry & getting published regularly in all of the popular paper crafting publications.  She is a hard worker who is always able to contribute a unique point of view to our products.  Her eclectic style really fills a need within the team and I am looking forward to continuing with her for another year!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Lisas_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  I feel like a world traveler when it comes to the many styles I embrace. I stamp my mood and toward the recipient, manufacturer or Publication I’m creating for. In one stamping session I will stamp an elegant card…and a whimsical card. You just never know what you will get with me!  This is Lisa’s favorite Papertrey project using Beautiful Blooms.

2. What inspires you? –  Life is a true inspiration…living it, experiencing it….exploring it! If I’m in a creative rut I can usually look back and see that I haven’t taken a field trip in a while…which is to say just go out and walk around without a purpose…explore a store I haven’t been to in a while…drop by a friends house. I am constantly surprised how many ideas come to me just from living life!

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  I love how Papertrey sets and products have innovative twists to them. I also enjoy that they leave room for my imagination to grow…they often inspire me to think outside of the box with my creations!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Heather Nichols

Heathers_headshotHeather is an earthy, wholesome vintage artist whose style is recognizable from miles away.  Her attention to detail and integration of all things old is truly unsurpassed.  She is famous for her use of kraft cardstock and white ink.  Much of her work also features detailed handwork, like stitching or beading.  She has an amazing spirit that I like to think rubs off on me each time I have the opportunity to speak with her!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Hathers_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  I would describe my stamping style as clean and rustic with a whimsical feel. I love using kraft colored paper and white ink!  This is Heather’s Favorite Papertrey project using

2. What inspires you? –  I am inspired by things everywhere & everyday… colors I see, clothing details, how a home is decorated, magazines, blogs, new stamping & scrapbooking supplies, and of course by my family and friends.

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  I love the Papertrey products – everything is so carefully thought out and designed with us, the stampers and scrapbookers, in mind. The images are so versatile and classic. I have so much fun stamping with the images and using the accessories and when that happens, it reflects in my designs and I am excited to share my projects that I have created.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Debbie Olson

Debbies_headshotDebbie’s sense of syle is unparalleled and her knack of creating simple designs that feature beautiful finishing details is her specialty.  She is always willing to go the extra mile in all that she does.  It is an absolute joy to see what she transforms our images into each and every month.  Her creativity and passion are going to take her SO many wonderful places in this industry.  I just hope that she’ll be able to stick around with us for at least a little longer *wink*!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Debbies_fav_21. How would you describe your stamping style? –  Eclectic!  (That word covers a multitude of sins, right?) I love vintage at times, and I love clean an simple at times. I enjoy the challenge of making something work–whether it is naturally "my style" or not.  This is Debbie’s favorite Papertrey project using the large heart tin and Beautiful Blooms.

2. What inspires you? –  I am inspired by everything that I see around me–from nature to a well-designed magazine. I am also inspired by great materials to work with, leading straight into number 3!

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  I believe that PaperTrey is cutting-edge–not the radical kind of cutting edge, but the totally practical and eminently useable, "why-didn’t-I-think-of-that?" cutting-edge. I also confess that I’ve always been amazed by the pieces that Nichole comes up with and I consider it a true privilege to get to play a tiny part in this venture.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Amy Rysavy

Amys_headshotAmy’s bright & cheerful personality shines through to her projects if you browse through our gallery or her blog.  She is fixated on Primas and has 101 uses for them, some of which she still has hiding up her sleeve! Amy is very easy going, therefore a joy to work with.  She has a wonderful knack of color blocking that still catches my eye everytime she adds that signature touch to her projects.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Amys_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? Eclectic – plus my style seems to be always evolving… This is Amy’s favorite Papertrey project using Borders & Corners Hearts.

2. What inspires you? Everything – but most especially magazines

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? I LOVE the style and the versatility – I am constantly finding new ways to use the stamps and products and it’s all fun!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Taylor VanBruggen

Taylors_headshotTaylor’s elaborate cards always include lots of fun texture and layers.  She has the wonderful ability to put various patterned papers together with ease along with making unique color pairings.  I always look to her for inspiration for myself when I need just the perfect finishing detail for a project.  The enthusiasm she always shows in her work continues to impress us with each release.  Her artwork is as warm as her personality and we are very proud to have her as a member of the team.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Taylors_fav1. How would you describe your stamping style? –  I would describe my stamping style as cutesy. I am drawn to bright color combinations and simple images. I enjoy experimenting with all different styles, but cutesy comes most naturally to me.
2. What inspires you? – I can gain inspiration from almost anything… clothing, nature, product packaging, etc. My favorite source of inspiration are magazines like Real Simple, Domino, and Martha Stewart Living. The color combinations are always so fresh and new.

3. What about Papertrey excites you and why do you enjoy using our products? –  The thing I love most about Papertrey products is the versatility that each stamp set offers! The way the sets are designed makes stamping simple and fun. I don’t feel limited when I use Papertrey stamps. Papertrey also knows (and even invents!) the up and coming papercrafting trends! Who doesn’t love a company like that!?
