Hi everybody, welcome to our next episode of The Great Cover-Up! This weekly feature is all about perfecting an ink blended background and making a sentiment stand out against a dark background. Today Svitlana and Melissa are your guides in The Great Cover-Up so enjoy!
Let’s get started!
When it comes to creating an ink blended account we all want to get a perfect result. Perfect ink blending requires time and patience invested though.
I want to share today how you can fix not so perfectly ink blended background using a very simple trick.
I started off by quickly blending Seedless Preserves, Faded Jeans and Spun Sugar Distress Inks onto a white panel. For demonstration purposes I did it intentionally sloppy. Although I should admit when I don’t want to invest a lot of time into creating a background I often do it in a quite sloppy manner, knowing that I can easily fix it.
A simple trick that can fix almost any background in my book are splatters! Water splatters, ink spray splatters, acrylic paint splatters – you name it.
First I sprayed my background with clean clear water and let the ink move. Then I added white ink spray splatters on top.
To create teeny tiny ones I use a very fine brush which I dip into a spray bottle and then shake above the panel.
You can also use the pipe from the spaying mechanism, it will create large splatters though.
For “fine tuning” you can draw some dots using a white gel pen.
After all my splatters dried I adhered two white floral die cuts made with the the Beautiful Bouquet Outline Die onto it. Followed by wrapping a blue twine around it and tying a bow. Next the panel was foam mounted onto a white card base.
I used the Just Sentiments: Mother’s Day Stamp Set to create a white embossed on black sentiment strip, which I popped up onto the card.

My Great Cover-Up project today centers around my sentiment. I originally had planned on stamping my sentiment directly on my Shape Shifters Oval 4 die cut, cut from Autumn Rose cardstock. I realized after though, that it got lost against the dark background and swallowed up by the bird and flowers.
To cover up this mistake, I stamped my sentiment on a Delicate Doilies die cut, cut from a bright white cardstock. I then surrounded my sentiment with my flowers and bird, allowing the sentiment to shine!
