SAF 2015: Mix + Match Challenge

By August 29, 2015Stamp-a-faire

So, how many projects do you have completed so far?  Are you having an absolute blast, or what?!?!  We’ve been checking out what everyone is doing on Instagram and Facebook using our hashtag, #stampafaire2015, and it looks like you all are having the time of your life!  I think it has officially been proven, Papertrey customers now how to party!  How about another challenge to celebrate!

7-mix-+-match-challenge

You’ve asked questions about these very subjects dozens of times in our forum, now you will hear the answers straight from the designers you admire most!

Mixing-patterns

Betsy Veldman says, “The Mood Mix patterned paper collection was inspired by prints and patterns often seen in fabrics and textiles.  There are all sorts of prints, including large and small florals, stripes, chevron, and more.  In this video I’ll give you some tips and tricks for successfully mixing prints and patterns…we’ll talk about things like color, scale, and white space.  At the end of the video you’ll also find a slide show of ten different pattern mixes I’ve put together from the Mood Mix collection that you can use as a reference and inspiration for your own projects!”

Even if you don’t have the Mood Mix paper collection, you can play along using patterns from your stash!

Mixing-colors

Dawn McVey says, “Color is my absolute favorite part of this hobby of ours!  Putting together fun and interesting color combinations is something that constantly inspires me and I hope it does you too!  I get a lot of comments and questions about color combinations, about what works and what doesn’t and how I come up with the color combos that I do, so my hope is that this video will give you a peek into my color process, including a couple of different approaches you can take to selecting a color combo of your own for today’s challenge!  And hopefully I’ll leave you with some tips that you can turn to again and again, for putting together some really unique color combos in the future!”

I like the mixed patterns more than I thought I would. I have never had much luck with that but Betsy’s tips should help! I like the mixing colors with the watercolors. Great job everyone!

Great tips. I tend to mix patterns in the same color family or tone on tone prints. This is good info to get the most use out of my large stash of patterned paper and to stretch myself with color combos.

I tried Dawn’s “watercolor” technique with my stampin’ up “stamp & write” markers and it worked perfectly (but it didn’t work with some really old zig markers I have)
