This is a really hard question because as an avid gardener, there are so many flowers to love. However, since I need to choose one, it would be the peony. After the long winters here in the North, peonies are a sign of the truly warm weather. Just thinking of them, I can smell the fresh and warm morning air that accompanies them. It’s a shame the Southern gardeners really can’t grow these beauties. The flowers are huge, trouble-free and pest-free (aside from the ants that love the nectar.) Can’t wait for mine to bloom….I have buds now, still a little chilly here!
Rochelle says

I don’t think he’s ever given me flowers at any other time, so I have the very best memories associated with them.
Kristin Burge says
Peonies…absolutely and completely peonies. They are so beautiful, fragrant, and old fashioned. I love it in the spring when I see their little red buds emerging from the earth. After a long winter, it fills my heart with joy. I am even happier when they bloom all so full and lovely.

My favorite flower (and my mom’s) is the violet.
When Adam and Eve committed the original sin and they left Paradise to be on their own, they were sorry they disobeyed God. Adam, with a humble heart, cried and as the tears reached the ground, they became violets. That and their color and their smell, the Toulouse ones are the most fragrant ones!
Katie G says
My favorite flower is lily of the valley. I love this flower so much that when I married my husband, I begged the florist to find some lily of the valley for my bouquet. We were married in February, so this was a bit of a challenge- luckily in Italy, where we were married, the climate is more temperate and the florist was able to come through. Ten years later I can still recall the heavenly scent of my bouquet of pale pink roses and lily of the valley.

Snapdragons.
When we lived in MD we were on a military post but had a small yard that I was able to plant things…do a little landscaping.
OK…since I had no idea what I was doing…
I experimented.
And I planted Snapdragons one year…
from seeds…
and the following year they were HUGE!
My parents came to visit and my Daddy was in the back yard and saw my Snapdragons…
he couldn’t believe how huge and utterly gorgeous they were.
He told me then something I never knew…
something even my mother didn’t know…
and in all of the years of my mother planting and gardening…
and him complaining about how difficult it was to mow and trim around her countless flower beds…
he loved Snapdragons.
They were his favorite flower.
When he died…
I insisted that Snapdragons were included in his casket arrangement.

I have many favourites since there are many types of flowers (indoors, outdoors, cut flowers, border flowers, flowering trees, vines, shrubs, etc, etc. lol). I love lilacs for their gorgeous smell, but only when kept outdoors and still growing on the trees. I love magnolias for their incredibly understated elegance in the garden. I love peonies (minus the ants), but just to admire not to grow. If I’m growing them in the garden myself, I like roses best. Hydrangeas are a lovely, lovely flower too and up here (Southern Ontario) they last and last. I think they’re the prettiest thing to use for flowering shrubs.
The best thing about flowers is the same thing that is so wonderful about humans, animals and of course, paper crafting. There is a colour, shape and style for everyone no matter what we are naturally drawn to!

Daffodils. I love that they are one of the first signs of spring. We had a bunch of them growing in our yard when I was young and I loved their cheerfulness. Funny story – my husband knows I love daffodils. But it’s not really something you get at a florist in an arrangement. So somehow he got it in his head that I love yellow flowers (which is not true – just daffodils), and now he always calls the florist and asks for a bouquet of yellow flowers. It’s so sweet that I don’t have the heart to tell him. 🙂
