Introducing Stocking Prints

September 11, 2009      Nichole Heady      726 Comments

With the popularity of both Heart Prints and Star Prints, I thought it would be fun to incorporate the concept of multiple patterns into something for the holidays.  After analyzing a few different themes that you might not see much in the stamping industry, I decided to focus on the classic holiday icon, the Christmas stocking.

Stocking Prints is a collection of mix & match stockings and cuffs, with the stockings featuring two different sizes along with a variety of patterns.

The details.

  • Stocking Prints will be available for purchase on September 15th.
  • It will retail for $24.
  • It contains a total of 27 images (12 stockings, 5 cuffs, 1 decorative loop and 9 sentiments)

Now, how about we continue where we left off yesterday!  More quick & simple holiday cards!

Red & black card

(click on above image for larger view)

This striking Pure Poppy & true Black combination is so vibrant & festive!  I just love it!  The focal point uses one of the small stockings and the stitched cuff, both stamped in Pure Poppy.  The sentiment is stamped on top of the stocking using True Black ink.

Focal point closeup

Now, did you notice the framed label I stamped everything on?  I
actually made it from scratch myself using another one of our new
releases, Vintage Labels.  It's a border set designed to coordinate
with the Labels One dies from Spellbinders.  I will go into more depth about them later this week, but if you still yearn for a bit more, you can stop by the Creating Keepsakes blog today where I am being featured as their guest blogger.  My post with them outlines a couple quick & easy tutorials using Vintage Labels that I think you'll want to check out!

Trimmed ribbon

Underneath the focal point, I layered True Black Stitched Ribbon underneath True Black Gingham Ribbon.  Both layers were adhered with Scor-tape and trimmed evenly with the edge of the cover to avoid bulkiness.  Many of our ribbons are of such a great quality, they won't fray when trimmed this way!

Interior

(click on above image for larger view)

For the interior, I stamped a sentiment from Holiday Wishes using Pure Poppy ink.  I added two small decorative flourishes from Vintage Labels on either side of the sentiment using True Black ink.

Envelope

The borders included in Vintage Labels are perfect for adding to the front of an envelope, framing where the address will be written.  This white A2 envelope was stamped with the same dotted border that I used on my card using Pure Poppy ink.

Thrifty-gifting-receipt

Not only do the cute little cards above come together quickly, they are also budget friendly, coming in at only 50-cents each for the consumable supplies!

Stocking lineup card

(click on above image for larger view)

This project uses a color scheme that is a bit more nontraditional for a holiday card.  Smokey Shadow, Aqua Mist & Fresh Snow.

Stocking stamp

This particular card is SUPER easy to mass produce because you can assemble all of the stocking images on one block together.  This allows you to stamp the entire cover with one impression!

Focal point closeup

The sentiment, also from Stocking Prints, is stamped in Smokey Shadow ink.  I like how it nods slightly to the popular silver metallics that are so popular during the holidays, without having to go to all the trouble of actually heat embossing.

Ribbon edges

Just like the card above, I cut this Fresh Snow Velvet Ribbon so that is even with the front of my card.  The 1/4" Scor-tape we carry is perfect for adhering the ribbon into place securely.

Interior

(click on above image for larger view)

The interior uses another sentiment from Holiday Wishes, stamped in Smokey Shadow.  The upper portion of the interior block is stamped with Polka Dot Basics II using Aqua Mist ink.  A bit of the same Fresh Snow Velvet Ribbon is adhered in place as a border.

Envelope

I stamped a single stocking with Aqua Mist ink in the the lower right corner of the coordinating white A2 envelope.

Thrifty-gifting-receipt

This card is bit more pricey than the others I have shown this week because of the elegant addition of velvet ribbon, but still comes in way under a $1!

Flourished card

(click on above image for larger view)

I've always loved plum & cream together and I thought they would be perfectly suited for a holiday card.  Plum Pudding, Vintage Cream & Classic Kraft.  To start, I stamped the large flourish from Fancy Flourishes three times on the kraft card cover using Vintage Cream ink.  I rounded the lower corners using a corner rounder punch.

Focal point closeup

The stocking was stamped using Plum Pudding ink on Rustic Cream cardstock.  I paired the small striped stocking and the star cuff to build the image. The stripes looked as though they needed a little something, so I added some Stickles to give the project a bit of shimmer & shine.  After the Stickles dried, I gut the stocking out.  I purposely made sure the exterior outline of these images were kept simple so they would be easy to cut out.

Interior

(click on above image for larger view)

The interior uses, yet again, Holiday Wishes.  This time stamped in Plum Pudding on Rustic Cream cardstock.  I stamped some of the star border from Around & About Sentiments on either side of it using the same ink.  Small dabs of Stickles finish it off.

Envelope

For the coordinating Rustic Cream A2 envelope, I carried the stars & Stickles over to the flap of the envelopes.  I think it's such a nice touch!

Thrifty-gifting-receipt

This project is super economical, only requiring 35-cents worth of product.  Perfect for those who make dozens upon dozens of cards!

Single scarlet stocking card

Last, but certainly not least is one last project that uses a single stocking as it's focal point.  I figured with so many nontraditional color schemes floating around, I would get back to the basics with this project.

Focal point closeup

The base of the stocking is stamped with Scarlet Jewel (sigh……don't you LOVE the pattern on this stocking?!?!)  with the cuff being stamped in Ripe Avocado.  The sentiment is added underneath in Dark Chocolate.

Embossing closeup

Instead of ribbon, I added a strip of Ripe Avocado cardstock that features a score line down the center as an accent.  The Scarlet Jewel background mat was embossed with a new QuicKutz Embossing Folder entitled Retro Diamonds, which I love!

Interior

The interior features one of Dawn's new sentiments from her set, Signature Christmas.  It's stamped in Dark Chocolate ink.  I added the punched leaves (Martha Stewart) and berries (1/4" hole punch) underneath the sentiment as a pretty accent. LOVE THIS!!!!

Envelope

For one last finishing touch, I stamped the large flourish from Fancy Flourishes onto the matching Vintage Cream A2 envelope.  I love how the flourish seems to *creep* up the back and onto the front of the envelope.

Thrifty-gifting-receipt

This card worked out to be another bargain at only 35-cents each to create!

As a child, my Mom hung our Christmas stockings along the mantel. Each stocking had one of our names embroidered on it. It was a tradition that I have maintained with our children today.

Your stocking set and samples are absolutely fabulous! Thank you for sharing your creativity!

My fondest memory of stockings in the anticipation on Christmas Eve of each one of us kids hanging our stocking at the mantel just before we would head off to bed. Then we would anxiously wait for the magical arrival of Santa during the night. Only to come downstairs in the morning and see each stocking filled to the brim with a candy cane and a stuffed animal adorning the top. Oh what a great memory from so many years ago.

For my husband and my first Christmas together, I did a special stocking for him, with little ‘treats’ and he was amazed. This was something new for him. Both of our daughters have grown up with this tradition and look forward to it every year. My mom always filled our stockings with fun things to keep us occupied long enough for mom and dad to get a bit more sleep. She and my dad would stay up all night putting up the tree, decorating it, and gathering all the gifts under it. They would be tired and needed more sleep…so our stockings were stuffed with treats, slinkies, and other toys to keep us busy until we could stand it no more and wake them up…mom and dad are gone now, but that’s what I have in mind when I see these. I love these stockings! (She always stuffed an orange at the bottom of each stocking! Sometimes that was hard to get out…ha-ha…ya think she knew that?!?!). Thanks, Nichole!

Very cute set. I love all the stocking styles. My favorite stocking memory comes from my grandmother. When my brother, sister and I were very young, grandma would sent a huge box at Christmas time. There was always 3 huge stockings in the box with the other gifts. These were the store bought varity made out of a red mesh type material. But, they were very large and filled with the most amazing things. All kinds of little trinkets and toys. Those stockings were my favorites. Thanks for the opportunity.

OMG…this set is so gorgeous! All the samples were so inspiring. I love Christmas stockings as they are a classic symbol of the season. For me they conjure memories of large family Christmas’ at my grandparents home. One year we had an old fashioned Christmas with all handmade decorations, popcorn & crandberry garland. Handmade candles instead of twinkling lights. We used oil lamps versus electricity and we reminded of the true meaning of the holiday season. It is my most cherished Christmas of all.

One of the coolest things about having a set focused on one image, like stockings, is that you can easily do a card that has multiple stockings, each with a different look, and they all are so coordinated that it looks like you have a single stamp with lots of stockings on it. how awesome! You filled the stocking niche! I’ve been drawing my own for years.
I think of me sitting on my parents bed on Christmas eve, filling the stockings for my brother and sister. ( I was home from university) My dad comes in and says, “I guess you know about Santa Clause if you’re filling your own stocking!”

    Thanks for giving us stockings!

These stockings are just fab. Our stockings were THE BEST part! I’m not sure we felt the same way back as children. They were always filled to the brim with such great little gifts. (After we were done with them we’d put them on our feet and walk around)

Christmas stocking memories – mom filling them late at night and leaving a new coloring book and new crayons right at the top so that when we got up way to early – we would get the book and crayons and color while giggling – and when we would hear them stirring we would quickly put them back in the stocking and wait impatiently till they got up!

When my children were small I knitted them each a Christmas stocking that they hung on the fireplace each Christmas eve for Santa to fill. Now they are all grown and several years ago my son’s house burned to the ground and they lost everything (thank God my son, his wife and 2 children were safe). My oldest daughter called me crying, not about the house burning but “because now Matthew doesn’t have his matching stocking”. She went on to tell me how much it meant to her- the tradition of her and her siblings hanging their stockings for Santa and how now that they were all in their own homes she knew that they all still hung their stockings. I was amazed and never knew how those simple stockings I made so long ago had such a special meaning to her. SO I will be buying the stocking stamp set, and can’t wait to make my cards, thank you.

We didn’t have a fireplace in the house where I grew up, so we hung our stockings from an armoire in our living room instead. Without a chimney to access, Santa just walked in the front door at our house (and left tracks to prove it).

In our home, we naturally fill the stockings on Christmas eve, after the kids have gone to bed. Then they know that when they wake us up in the morning, they can then go dig into their stockings while we drag oursleves out of bed. That is our tradition, and it buys us sleepy, coffee deprived adults, a few extra minutes! Thanks for the chance to win!

Those stocking are adorable. I love all of the projects presented today. We didn’t have a mantle to hang stocking from so we used the stairs to hang them on. There are five kids in the family plus mom and dad had one. It was so cool to see all seven stockings handing and us kids couldn’t wait to see what goodies Santa left for us.

Christmas stockings bring so many memories to mind. My mom stitched handmade stockings for each of her kids (all seven of us). We treasure those now “well-loved” stockings still today…they mean Christmas to each of us! Making “homemade” felt-stitched stockings with my elementary students was a favorite day in my classroom every year. Passing on traditions of homemade-heartfelt love! I am very excited about this stamp set and thank you immensely for making it possible for me to think about ways I can use it to create more memories of love!

I love the stockings. My favorite memory of Christmas stockings was in 1965. My husband had lost his leg in Vietnam and the hospital let him come home for Christmas. I knew this Christmas was going to be a lean one. We had four children and the baby was only 9 months old. I got the children ready for bed and I brought the baby out to my husband who was laying on the couch so he could kiss him good-night. When I looked up and out the window Santa was looking in the window. I opened the door and he had a huge bag of toys for the children and a stocking for my husband and me. Someone had arranged for this and to this day I don’t know who. So stockings are a beautiful memory of a mystical Christmas.

I have some from my childhood, the dog has a few, the girls each have one and then I have some that I bought to match the rest of the decor (and I have a few color schemes depending on the mood I’m in that particular year…). This may be a must-have set for me… *sigh*… just like every other set! LOL!

Out of all your beautiful sets I love the Christmas ones the most. Stockings in England were not hung by the fireplace, rather they were left at the end of your bed after you’d fallen asleep, so the first memory of every Christmas morning I have is scrabbling about in the dark at the end of my bed with my sister trying to find our stockings!

Christmas stockings are my favorite holiday decoration and I still get excited to play “Santa” every year! My stocking is from my childhood…yes, back in the 50’s! When quilted plastic was all the rage, red and (antique) white which still has the plastic holly and jingle bell attached. Inside is a letter I have kept from a Christmas when I was 10 years old, asking Santa for a camera. His unmistakeable handwriting in reply telling me that I get my wish as I was such a good girl this year. My dad has passed on, so every year when I hang my stocking I pull the letter out, savor his words, and tuck it back in.

When I think of Christmas stockings I remember the orange and apple that always took up the bottom portion of my stocking. I never liked to find them at the bottom! lol But I did love finding the other goodies inside and not having to wait for my parents to be awake.

I had a red and white felt stocking growing up with glitter šŸ™‚ I loved hanging it on the fireplace after we decorated the tree. My dad also had a string of vintage bells in different colours he would hang across the mantle so that Santa would bump into them when he came šŸ™‚ Love this set…very fresh and fun!

We grew up in a house that had no fireplace, so we hung our stockings in the hallway so that we passed them every day on the way out the door. Occasionally my parents would stick little treats in them before Christmas. My mother loved Christmas and loved to spoil us, so much so that our stocking stuffers were often our favorite presents. Christmas stockings are one of my favorite traditions. We never got elaborate…they were filled with candy, gum, small trinkets, and the requisite orange. My most memorable stocking gift is from the year I was nearly 16. Tucked in the toe of the stocking was a key to the family car for my own key ring. It symbolized trust and freedom. I’ll never forget it.

What I remember and loved most about my childhood christmas stocking was the fact that it was made of a furry type fabric – not exactly sure what the material was. Maybe some type of soft crushed velvet? Anyway, it is the texture I recall most. A dreamy soft feeling that punctuated christmas for me. The Scarlet Jewel color reminds me of the color it was. What a fun and fabulous set. I have heart prints and star prints so I will need this to complete my “collection”! šŸ™‚

Love the new stocking set, it brings back wonderful memories from my childhood. I have six brothers and sisters and we would all hang our stockings right above the fireplace. On christmas morning we would all lay in our beds singing christmas carols until all of us were awake. Usually Mom and Dad were the last to join in and then it would be a race to see who would get downstairs the fastest. It was always a suprise what was left in our stockings.

Wow, I’d love to have that prize…these are just marvelous stocking stamps; I love the versatility they can bring for several different years to come, even.

My aunt made me a sequined felt stocking that I still have to this day and I love it…she makes them for all the ‘kids’ and everyone just truly enjoys them.

This set is so cute! I love all the cards you made, but the very last one (with the scarlet jewel and avocado) is my favorite. While still very simple, it is also quite elegant.

My parents would always put small gifts in our stockings along with the usual candy and fruit. I especially remember the year I received a pearl ring in my stocking. It is still one of my most treasured objects.

I’m working on one right now, I cross stitched these elaborate stockings for all the older kids and I’ve been working on one for the youngest child now for two years! Because of course they have to match! I am getting closer to finishing . . . closer . . . so much outlining! Stamping her a stocking would be so much easier! šŸ™‚

Stockings are one of the most magical parts of Christmas for me – so great that I actually started a tradition of Secret Santa stockings for the grownups in our family at Christmas and it’s now one of the most anticipated events ! As usual, great samples! Christmas stockings remind me of my great-aunt who knitted our stockings. They also remind me of the goodies we’d get inside, but there was never any candy because my father was a health freak and wouldn’t allow it. We’d get fruit instead, which was a bummer because I don’t even like oranges! So of course, my kids get candy in theirs, lol!

the stocking is such an icon for me. we always had our pictures taken with it on christmas eve. we lovingly put it on our chairs for santa and it was always the first thing we dug through in the morning. my parents even had their stockings from when they were kids (they were TRUE vintage!) and one year after wondering why santa didn’t fill their stockings, we decided to fill it ourselves. i think we chose a potato, onion and orange. i guess we just dug through the kitchen to find things. what a kid thing to do!

My Santa was standing next to a Christmas tree, she hand- stitched sequins all over the tree. Maybe that’s why I like “bling” so much now!!! Thanks again for the chance to win some great sets.

We alternate the Christmas holiday between staying home and going to my in-laws house in Indiana. This year we will be in Indiana with the rest of the family and it is soooooo……. much fun. My mother-in-law has bought or made a stocking for each family member as they have come to be a part of the family either through marriage or being born in. LOL With the grandparents, kids, and grandkids, we have a total of 21 stockings!!! They are all hung side by side and we all sneak a little something into the stockings so that on Christmas morning we have a fun goody filled stockings to pour out. It is the first thing we do on Christmas morning. It makes me giddy just thinking about it now. šŸ˜‰

I love, love love the stockings! When I was growing up, getting the stockings out that my mom had made for each of us was a special time each year. Hers had gotten discolored when she made it, but to me that just made them all more special for the homemade feel. As an adult, I made stockings for our family when my daughter was a year old, sewing some with names she called the people who received them, which made them special. I was sure to make an extra so that when we added to our family, I could just put the new one’s name on the stocking, which I did when my son arrived. –Elena

I LOVE this new set! Stockings are one of the first things that come to mind when I think of Christmas. Every year you knew mom would have an organe, an apple, a new tooth brush, an extra large candy bar and a brand new ornament for us in our stockings. We have our stockings that display every year, and then I have a “Stocking Tree” that holds the stockings of all of those who are no longer with us that had their special stockings in their day. On that tree are our grandparents and our parents (who have all gone to a better place) and our past pets who have gone to Rainbow Bridge. Love this set!!! Stockings are one of my favorite memories! I still have the one from when I was a little girl. I have been trying to find “the perfect” stockings for my 3 kids and haven’t found them yet. I had 2, but 3 was a surprise and that stocking was no where to be found! šŸ™ I’m still on the search and in the meantime we have 2 matching and use mine from my childhood. Such fun!

Love the stockings and the cards! My parents always hung all of their kids (8 of us!) and now the kids’ spouses and grandkids’ stockings on their fireplace for Christmas. There were over 25 stockings! Last year, my parents basement flooded (big time) and all the stockings had to be thrown out. Some of the kids’ stockings were over 40 years old. Thank goodness we have pictures of all the old stockings. They remind us of such great Christmas memories.

I still have and use the very same stocking that my mom & dad used my very first Christmas. The stocking was from Santa and I was the only one that had one, so when I was in my senior year of high school, I decided to spread the stocking tradition to include my parents so now ‘Santa’ leaves one for each of them. And I love those stockings because I bought material to match things my mom & dad like(a christmasy gold musical note print on ivory for my mom and a metallic navy and gold stripe to represent everything nautical for my dad!) and made the stockings myself.

When I see a stocking I remeber the home made one I had all my life. I had gone to a craft fair and picked out a differnet one and when it came to Christmas, Santa accidently filled the wrong stocking with my tings. So my parents told me Santa knows best, this must be your stocking. And to this day I have that same stocking, while my sister has my stocking.

My most vivid memory concerning Christmas stockings is very recent. We had just moved here, everything was very hectic what with moving on Dec.5, trying to sell the other house, unpacking, decorating, baking and planning for the family to all come here with not nearly enough beds. I thought I could get away with not doing stockings for our boys and their spouses, the grandchildren were all taken care of, and regular gifts were wrapped and under the tree. Then came that moment when younger son (27 then) looked at me with those big doe eyes and and said. “Where’s my stocking?” I’ll never forget that and I’ll never not have stockings waiting for everyone. What an awful mother I was.

On Christmas morning, we would wake up and find that Santa had filled them with small toys, foil-wrapped chocolates, and an orange.

I am absolutely loving the “special” touches to your cards and envelopes. I’ve just come back from a trip to the market and I was also noting there how the special touches at various stands made some better than others.

Stockings now make me feel inferior. Ours were simple and great as kids. My husband’s experience was that the stocking should be the most exciting thing on Christmas Day. I let him take care of it, since I can’t live up to his standards.

    Very cute set!

Oh, joy! When I moved into my own home as a young adult, I decided I would collect Christmas stockings to decorate with during the holidays. Every year I buy another special stocking for my collection. The only problem? No one fills them for me! LOL.

I absolutely love what you’ve shown of Stocking Prints! Stockings remind me of being a little girl, when Christmas was always so magical and worry-free. My parents always wrapped the small presents for our stockings so they were truly a surprise, too. And they were filled with nuts and oranges and apples, a tradition from my Dad’s parents. Good memories.

I love these stocking images! Great cards to highlight the set. It is tradition that everyone in the house (including pets) has a stocking, and that everyone helps fill everyone else’s sock. That way, it feels Santa came because you don’t know who any one item is from…and no one tells. Stockings are a bigger deal than presents!

I really love all the cards. That damask stocking is my fave! Growing up we never did the Christmas stocking thing-growing up in the islands, it wasn’t a big thing. But now that I have my own kids, we hang out stocking on the mantle. I spend Oct/Nov/Dec looking for small things to put inside their stockings. They get to open it Christmas morning since we open the “big” presents on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Stockings remind me of the fact that’s that how we always started Christmas off when we were kids. We opened our stockings first thing Christmas morning once everyone was awake and then we started opening gifts. When I was in HS & College, I got a new stocking that was tiny and said, “No Candy, Just Cash”! It was always in good fun, but it’s still makes me smile everytime I think about it. : )

My family always had a tradition of opening stockings last on Christmas. When my husband and I married, I found out that his family had the tradition of opening them first. Then much to my dismay I learned that though my family put fun stuff like jewlery and such in stockings, his put batteries and socks. It was a hard compromise for me. But now we open them first, with fun stuff inside! Stockings is one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

Love the stockings! Growing up in Germany, we didn’t do stockings at Christmas. But we put our boots by the door on December 6 (St. Nicholas Day) and St. Nick would fill the boots with little treats- small toys, clementines, nuts, candy. I continued this tradition with my boys. And they, of course, also have stockings that get filled on Christmas(so they get a double whammy).

On Christmas morning we still do stockings between 5 and 6am. We have done this since I can remember as a child (and I’m 30!). Back then, it was my Mom and Dad and Sister and the rule was no stockings could be opened before Dad got coffee. Well, that’s still the rule, except now my Sister and I can make it for him. I love stockings because it is a fun was to give small gifts to each other and now that we live apart it keeps us together on Christmas Eve night. I guess that is the benefit of having a smaller family, only 6 of us now to get together. I love the holidays so much, but that first coffee and time spent when it is quiet on Christmas morning, then getting louder laughing together is probably my favorite day of the year.

Thanks for the chance to win. I told myself I would be good this year and only get one holiday set, but I don’t think that will happen. =)

Great job! I love all the examples – so varied! I remembered going to FOE (Eagles) with my parents as a kid every year. We would get this awful red mesh stocking with lots of apples and oranges in it plus some candy and a little toy. A lot of the kids would just leave the fruit and just take out the candy and toy. My mom and I would gather them up and then we refilled them with candies and stuff and gave them out to the poorer kids in town who gladly took the apples and oranges with just as much glee as the candy and little toys. We usually gave them to the family with the Christmas food boxes from our Church or the services organizations. Now, can I replicate the red mesh with an orange and apple sticking out with a candy cane? Just one of my childhood memories to blab about. Thanks for such fun examples and great sets!
