Easter! DOn’t ask me why, but the shade of purple that you typed with reminded me of jelly beans & that reminds me of Easter!
My Senior Prom Dress. It was Purple with Gold Stars and was fully Sequined, got it on sale on New years Eve day for less than $100 in 1994 was a Great deal and looked great on me. =O)
Normally when I hear the word “purple” I think royalty, but after seeing your new purple I think of a sweet little baby. Such a soft, nice color.
Thanks for the chance to win.
Alicia
The first thing that comes to mind is the movie “The Color Purple”.
Debby G
The first thought I have when I think about the color purple is of my good friend Rachelle and her baby girl. Rachelle loves purple and often dresses her DD in gorgeous purple outfits. Once my Lavendar Moon order arrives I am for sure going to make Rachelle a card!!
Lilacs. They are in bloom now. Have them on my kitchen table. Purple reminds me of Spring.
The color purple? Oprah Winfrey, of course!
Purple reminds me of two things: Easter in my grandmother’s garden with all the hyacinths in bloom, and purple POPSICLES! 🙂
My favorite color!
I think of Spring! It’s such a vivacious and light color, it gives a breath of fresh air to a long Michigan winter.
Well when I think of the color purple I think SACRAMENTO kings!!! (NBA basketball). Of course this pretty lavender isn’t the same as the Kings dark purple
I think of a story that my mom used to tell me. Her favorite color was purple and when she was a teenager her parents let her redecorate her room. She went with dark purple carpet and light purple walls. It was still her favorite years later after having survived living in the purple cave!
The color purple always reminds me of the northern lights I saw in Alaska!
its the book when I am old I shall wear purple
When you say “the color purple” I think of the movie The Color Purple. But then I think of the color and I have to say that lilacs and flowers come to mind. Now I’m really thinking about the lavender moon ribbon and ink!
LILACS LILACS LILACS
I love color – LOVE the smell… the house next door when I was growing up had 3 large bushes (or are they trees??) and I loved the spring in New Jersey when they bloomed large and fragrant.
Spring and Easter.
The color purple reminds me of my mom! Not because she wears a red hat with it, either. It’s her most favoritest color, and always makes me think of her. Which is appropriate, ’cause she’s royalty to me!
When I think of purple, the first thing I thought of was a photograph of our daughter when she was about 3 years old. It was taken ona warm Thanksgiving day, she was wearing her favorite fuzzy purple outfit, and was lounging in the grass, holding a blade of grass in her hand …smiling at her dad taking the picture. I love that photo. I think I need to scrap it very soon!
My first memory of purple is associated with smelling the lilac bush on Easter morning at my grandmother’s when I was very young! I had never smelled such an amazing smell before…and since then, purple has been my favorite color! And my fav combo has been purple and green for as long as I can remember, so I’m so excited to see how the PTI purple and green go together 🙂
It makes me think of the lilac trees in the side yard of the house I grew up in as a child. My mother planted them and they always smelled so fragrant in the spring and were so pretty. Great memories!
When I think of the color purple my first thought is Easter.
When my parents built our home (1974), they had linoleum put in all the rooms excluding the living room to save money. Shortly after turning 4 (1977), they put carpet in the bedrooms, one of the bedrooms (their room at the time) had Purple Shag carpeting, and I remember my mom’s Chenille Purple Bedspread with huge white flowers and everything in the room being purple. I remember wanting that to be my room because I loved everything PURPLE. Well, Christmas rolled around and there was an announcement that I would soon have a little brother or sister. We came home from my grandmother’s on Christmas Eve and I went to my room, only to find that my bed was gone and there was a crib in that room now, I looked around and my mom said to check “her room” and there was my own big girl canopy bed and dresser (white with gold accents) with the most beautiful purple bedding and canopy that I had ever seen. All in the room with purple carpet. That was my room until I turned 16, same purple shag carpeting, everything. When I turned 16 my mom moved me into another bedroom and the whole house got new carpeting, I will never forget that purple shag carpeting…..Purple has always been my favorite color, my office is purple, my two oldest daughters have purple in their rooms and I have even had a purple Tracker….When I found out I was having a daughter for the first time, I told EVERYONE…NO PINK, I want Lavender. When friends say they are having a baby and it’s a girl, I go for lavender. I have no idea what the appeal is, but I am OBSESSED with Purple.
When I think of purple, I think Mardi Gras and king cake – yum! 🙂
They say kids can be cruel – unfortunatelt the color purple does not engender too many good memories :). Whenever I think of the color purple – I think of a pair of purple pants (with suspenders, mind you) that I had when I was in 3rd grade. There was a girl who didn’t like me very much and she would call me a purple grape when I wore those pants. Suffice it to say – didn’t wear those pants too often :). But they say, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger 🙂
The very first thing that came to mind was the movie with Oprah in it.
-*linda*-
honestly? prince…what can i say i’m a child of the 80’s. i spent alot of time with his album “purple rain”.
The color purple always brings to mind the beautiful lilac bushes my mom always had around my childhood home. I have offspring of them now planted in our yard–I love the color and their smell.
When I hear The Color Purple I think of Oprah Winfrey and the book and movie by that name. It was really good. I also think of irises in the spring and other purple flowers.
My first memory of the color purple is of flowers on my grandmother’s porch. She loved flowers and passed the passion on to me. She passed away when I was 9, so I had very little time with her, but have a lot of wonderful memories.
When I think of the color purple I think of royalty. Therefore one can only think of our saviour Jesus Christ.
A friend got married within two years of HS graduation. Her bridesmaids dresses were lavendar/purple with hoop skirts (it was the 80’s)… hahaha
everyone else looked like little bo peep too, so it wasn’t as bad as all that… but it was pretty bad. Ya know? HAHAHA
thanks for that memory.
When I think of the color purple, two things come to mind. it represents royalty and the movie/play the Color Purple.
Lots of beautiful flowers – hydrangeas, violets especially!
When I think about “purple” my hometown of Manhattan, KS immediately comes to mind. I love it there, and Manhattan is the home of Kansas State University (Wildcats) and “Purple Pride”! I have very fond memories of growing up there, attending football games, and eventually graduating from KSU. Go Cats!
Purple makes me think of my grandmother. She wore only purple clothing, purple eyeshadow and lipstick, her house was decorated in all purple, the sweet little thing even drove a purple Saturn car! Miss you Granny!
One of my early childhood memories is of my very first bike – a beautiful purple Raleigh with streamers on the handlebars. I can’t think of purple without thinking of that wonderful bike.
The first thing that comes to mind are the Minnesota Vikings! I know that is not stamping related, but that’s what I think about.
The lilacs in my backyard at our last house. I miss them.
My daughter. It is her absolute FAVORITE color. Everything has to be purple for her. She is going to love my new PTI supplies!
Honestly, I think of the Red Hat ladies and that poem about their purple dresses!
I think of a velvet royal purple bag that I think belonged to my great-grandmother originally that my sister and I played dress-up with for years
Not to mention years of wearing a ton of purple clothes cause it was my fav color (it is still high on my list of colors to wear )
I think of a spring breeze blowing through lavender plants. It’s beautiful to all the senses, great smell, beautiful swaying purple flowers… good times! I can’t wait to see the new sets! Abi
LOL! Donny Osmond!
My sister Kelly’s Chrissy doll, Velvet’s, gorgeous purple velour dress. I had a Chrissy doll and loved her but I always wanted Velvet’s dress! (Chrissy’s was orange!)
Good memory!
Kim Marie
I think of the phase I went through in high school where all the clothes I bought were purple because it was my favorite color back then!
I immediately think of the book “The Color Purple” and how it touched me. I remember reading it in high school and just being in shock about the topic.
The color purple reminds me of lilacs in bloom…. the scents of spring.
When I hear The Color Purple I think of Oprah Winfrey and the book and movie by that name. It was really good. I also think of irises in the spring and other purple flowers.
My 1st thought that comes to mind would probably be my 6 month old baby girl. I often get tired of seeing all of the “pink” baby girl stuff everywhere so I tend to dress her in purples a little more often than the pinks 🙂
Purple reminds me of High School. This was our school color!
purple… the smell of lilacs… always in bloom before my grandma’s birthday in May.. and now that she has passed we place beautiful sweet smelling lilacs by her grave each year… nice memory…
The Color Purple brings to mind the clothes that I made for myself as a teen. I just loved to sew, and was so proud of some of my homemade outfits. My husband and I were just talking about that the other day.
One purple summertime outfit in particular was a favorite….I can’t figure out for the life of me why! I think I even have one of those dreadful school pictures of me wearing it….Oh My!
The beautiful lilacs in my mother’s back yard and the lovely scent they had. I have not smelled anything so wonderful in years.
Oh Gosh! The first thing that comes to my mind about the color purple is when I was a little girl, my Aunt Wilma had PURPLE hair. Do women still put that purple rinse in their hair?? LOL!! Definitely not a stamping related answer, but that was the first thing that came to my mind!
Purple happens to be my most favorite color. When I was growing up in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, we had a lovely lilac bush outside the living room window and every spring it would have the most gorgeous blossoms on it. I loved being able to cut some of them to bring in and grace our home.
Besides beautiful lilacs, my best friend of over 40 years has always loved purple. I didn’t like the color until I got a little older and had known her for a number of years. Every time I see purple, I think of her and wonder why it took me so long to learn to love the color.
I always think of the movie, “The Color Purple”. Its one of my favorites.
My daughter’s bedroom! Two walls are purple, two walls are green and then she has a quilt that ties it all together:).
The girl across the street, Glenda. It was her favorite color.
I have to be honest…the FIRST thing that comes to mind is an outfit my grandmother used to wear. She liked looking nice and always had on her accessories. She wore this purple cotton sweatshirt and sweatpants outfit (you know the kind you can find at Wal-Mart for $5 each piece). But that’s not all…she had on her jewlery and dress shoes with it. You gotta give her credit for “dressing it up!”
The color purple makes me think of my grandpa’s garden. He grew a lot of purple flowers because it was grandma’s favorite color!
Grapes!!! I know, not very original, but that’s what pops in my head when I think of purple!
Anette
I remember smelling the lilacs on our trees in our backyard, and begging my Mom to pick some for me! (They are still my favorite flower–and scent!)
Pick me, pick me! 🙂 I think of the iris my great grandma planted that are still growing along side our house, as well as the lilacs that will be out soon, yum!
I think of the movie “Color Purple” too, but that might have been the wording. I love purple/lavender hydrangeas – they dry so nicely too.
I think of the maid of honor dress I wore at my sister’s wedding which was 25 years ago this June!
Thanks for the contest!
My favorite color love it.
Whenever I hear the word purple, I automatically think of a poem my grandmother had hanging in her bedroom. This is how it began:
“When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.”
Love it!
When I think of purple, I think of my little 3 year old daughter. I love to dress her in lavender. I have always loved the color and hope that my daughter will have a love for purple, too.
The lavender tree at my grandma’s house.
I think of lavender – which is not only pretty but smells so nice! My grandmother always smells like lavender so it reminds me of her too!

Purple is my life. Purple was the color of my wedding. Purple is the color of my bedroom walls. Purple will be the color in my flower beds this summer.
Hydrangias. (sorry on the spelling if it’s wrong!) We had them in my wedding 11 years ago, and last weekend at a mother/daughter banquet. It makes me think of family.
My mom used to sing a little ditty
I’ve never seen a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I’d rather see than be one
Oh yeh she sang it to us….that’s my purple memory LOL!
I LOVE the scent of lilac bushes… and that’s the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the color purple.
The first thing I thought of was irises. I love purple flowers.

My first immediate thought of purple (I should say LAVENDER) is my room when I was a child….I had lavender walls AND carpet – I was so hip back then!! I think it was from when I was about six or seven til twelve, then I went to the whole red, black and white scheme….but I did have a lavender room….I cannot wait to see all the new releases!! Congrats to PTI for all their success!!
Sadly…Oprah…
My best friend’s wall! She had a purple accent wall in her room when we were growing up with floral wallpaper on the other three walls – can’t you just imagine it?
When I was a little girl, my neighbors had a huge Concord Grape arbor. They were so sweet and tasty, my sister and I ofen ate ourselves sick on them. Then go back the next day for more.
They had a rich, gorgeous purple color on the outside and a fresh pinkish purple on the inside. Like a purple party that as tasty.
My Momma!!! My mom is a purple fanatic! Every room in her house is some shade of purple, including her mauvish/purplish carpet! I will feel bad for the person who buys their house some day should they ever decide to move, lol! I still like purple to this day, but since beginning paper crafting, my color combination horizons have definitely expanded! I can’t wait to see the yummy new shade and ribbon, ribbon, lovely ribbon to go with it!!!
Besides beautiful lilacs, my best friend of over 40 years has always loved purple. I didn’t like the color until I got a little older and had known her for a number of years. Every time I see purple, I think of her and wonder why it took me so long to learn to love the color.
This is easy- I think “my favorite color”!
The first thing that comes to mind is my high school days.
My room was yellow and purple, after that it was red and purple and even to this day I still have a purple room!
The first thing I think of is the color of my bride’s maid dresses. They had light purple dresses. I have always loved that color. Love this blog and I have loved all the sneak peaks I have seen.

The color purple brings back memories of my dad that died in a car accident 10 years ago this month. Growing up my favorite color was always purple. My dad traveled alot for his job and money was tight so it was rare that he brought gifts back for my brother or I. I remember clearly when I was 8-9 my dad brining me back a pillowcase talking about the love of purple and it was personalized with my name. It came from a store that sold all purple stuff in Atlanta. I was so proud of that pillowcase. I remember my mom having to wash it and put it back on my bed right away. My dad was not a sentimental man often and I felt so loved when I got that gift. I will remember this memory always.
Purple reminds me of good times at my grandmother’s house from when I was little. She had a a luscious purple velvet pillow that I loved to lay on.
Makes me think of the movie. Congrats on another wonderful release!!!!
One of my favorite movies!!

The color purple reminds me of Spring and Lilacs.
Purple has been my favorite color for many, many years. BUT….years ago, I loved yellow roses. My husband cannot seem to remember how much I love purple, and insists how much I love yellow (because of the yellow roses). Coincidently, purple and yellow look great together, so that is one of the things I think about when thinking of purple – kind of like how well a husband and wife who are different, seem to go together so well!
When I read your question I thought of Oprah! I love the new purple color that you are releasing. Can’t wait to get it!!
Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful ideas with us.
To be honest the first thing that came to my mind was this bright purple I just used tonight to make a dinosaur birthday card for my son’s classmate. I am usually the soft lavender kind of person.
My daughter because it is her favorite color.
The first association that I get with purple is that I have tried, probably since I was 4 or so, to mix my favorite shade of purple with watercolors and its just very hard! No matter what combo I use I’m always off,its reeeeally hard to mix a good purple!
An ex-coworker of mine. She LOVED purple. Eye shadow, nails, most of her clothes, her CAR even! It was a little much!
First thing that comes to my mind is Oprah’s movie “The Color Purple” – which was a great movie btw!!! I think I cried a couple of times during this movie…..
My first thought was my 3 daughters. The color purple has always been their favorite color. They always choose the purple pen, cup, hair bow, blanket, etc. As my oldest daughter gets older her favorite colors have begun to change. So when I think the color purple I think of my “little” girls.
The color purple reminds me of my childhood room. Purple was my favorite color growing up and my room was a very light color purple. It reminds me of being a young child that was carefree and happy.
When I think of purple, I think of my friend Sarah and her purple sweater she wore when she was with my husband and I when I was in labor for our second child,(back in 1986),I remember concentrating on the button hole of that purple sweater as she held my hand as I breathed through contractions. I remember my husband with his fist in my back to help with the back labor.
I am so grateful for that elegant eggplant sweater of hers.
My grandmother would make Barbie clothes by hand for me if I drew the pattern and picked out the materials. I always picked purple bcause it was my favorite color. I guess it is a good thing I graduated from TCU -purple horned frogs.
Good Friday – that’s what I remember. Going into the church and everything is draped in purple – the stations of the cross, the crucifix, everything. The complete stillness of it all and the terrible sadness. – Nimmy
When I think of the color purple, I remember my sister as a little girl loving that color. To this day it remains her favorite!

Purple has always been my favorite color and one very poignant memory is of my PURPLE TOUGHSKINS JEANS!! I saw those babies in Sears when I was 7 and HAD to have them! My parents bought them for me and I proudly wore them to school. I’m not sure why, whether it was that people made fun of the obnoxious color, or that they were not really very comfortable jeans..as they were pretty, ahem, tough on your skin..or what, but I wore them about 3 times and then decided that I didn’t like them. THAT didn’t sit very well with my Mom, who paid good money for those jeans, thank you very much! Anyway, that’s a very vivid memory of some stylin’ vividly purple Toughskins!
When my son was in the grade school, he had to
write an essay on his favorite color. It was purple and it was a tear jerker. He is now forty five years old and I still have the essay. I never see or hear of the color purple that I do not think of that, truly.
Purple will forever remind me of my grandmother. She passed away a couple of years ago, but she always wore at least a little purple. Amethyst was her favorite jewel (for obvious reasons), and in her will, she left me her favorite amethyst ring. Whenever I see it, I think of her and smile.
The color purple reminds me of the backyard of of the house I grew up in. Our yard was full of purple lilac bushes. To this day, I think about that house every time I smell lilacs.
Oh, my, I’m showing my age but the first thing I think of when I here the word purple is a mood ring! Yep, I had one of them when I was middle-school age (way way back in the middle 1970’s)…..when your ring turned purple, that meant that you were “blissfull” or happy. My ring was always purple!
My son’s room when he was born! We didn’t know if he was to be a boy or a girl = but I picked this really cool purple but it had a lot of blue to it! LOVED IT! And it actually turned out very boyish!

I think of the book by Alice Walker.

The first thought or memory that comes to mind about purple is Prince. I didn’t see “Purple Rain” until I was older, but I had the cassette (totally dating myself with that one!). Purple was also my favorite color at one point in my childhood…don’t most girls go through a purple phase? 🙂
The first time I saw my sweet baby girl in her going home outfit. It was just the two of us and I was very excited about finally bringing her home to the hospital. Her outfit was lavender with a beautiful dark purple print to offset. That was the day that I knew that purple would be her signature color. Even her eyes had a purple hue and kept that same shade for almost a year. To this day she will always be my girl in purple.
Nicole
My mom in her purple Sunday dress 🙂
Lilacs come to my mind first when I think of purple. I LOVE lilacs! Nancy (who had hand surgery this am!)

I always associate the color purple with my dad — it’s his favorite.
Purple makes me think of my dear Sister-In-Law who was tragically killed on her snowmobile 9 years ago. Her favorite color always seemed to be purple. Her last Christmas tree was decorated in purple.
My Dad always bought homemade black raspberry ice cream from a local creamery and it was the color of Lavender Moon. The color purple always reminds me of this yummy childhood treat!
My favorite color is purple so my memories go way way back. I believe the earliest memory is of my winter coat which was the prettiest royal purple. The cuffs were leopard print I believe.
I think of a purple cow- lol b/c of that purple cow cutter!
My memory is of the two little girls playing their hand game and their sing-song voices. It brings with it a feeling of melancholy as I remember the rest of the story.

My mom used to wear purple polyester pants that I hated!!
Purple… the color of lilacs at Grandma’s house.
You mean beside’s the movie “The Color Purple”? I had a dress that was this horrid shade of purple … let’s just say it met a very “un”fortunate accident.

My husband and my first date – he wore a purple shirt – needless to say there was almost NOT a second date! 🙂 and then I married him – go figure!
The first thing that comes to mind is that
purple is my dear husband’s favorite color. We
just celebrated 40 years of marriage last week so maybe he’ll be my luckey charm and
I’ll win this wonderful prize.
I think of my mom (she passed away along time ago) but it was her favorite color.
My absolute favorite color!! I now live in the house that my parents had when I was in high school (88) and “my room” still has purpler carpet even as we haven’t got that far in our remodeling. 🙂
Purple will forever remind me of my grandmother. She passed away a couple of years ago, but she always wore at least a little purple. Amethyst was her favorite jewel (for obvious reasons), and in her will, she left me her favorite amethyst ring. Whenever I see it, I think of her and smile.
Growing up we use to have a lilac bush in our backyard. It was my favorite place to hide during hide and seek. When I see the color purple it reminds me of those warm summer night when we’d stay outside until we were covered in dirt, exhausted…ready for a bath and bed. I still smell those lilac’s!
The first memory I thought of when thinking of the color purple was a purple gingham dress my mom made for me with hand embroidery. I love purple!
-Alta
I think about two things, one, the Royal Crown bags that my mom keeps her jewlery in hidden in the closet. Not even sure where they came from, because she doesn’t even have alcohol in the house. And two, I painted my bedroom in the first house I owned Matisse Purple, a very deep purple. not very traditional, but I loved it!
When I was growing up there was a yogurt commercial on TV featuring kids talking about what they liked about the yogurt they were eating. My favorite comment, “Mine tastes like PURPLE!!” It always makes me smile when I think of it!!
Purple pansies. My grandmother would always sing this little song about purple pansies that grew in her garden.
Purple always reminds me of being a little girl when my favorite color was purple.
Purple makes me think of my satin purple prom dress I wore to my junior prom. Even my shoes were dyed to match the dress.
When I think of the color purple I think of the real deep purple that I used to wear with teal when I was 15 years old. I would wear two pairs of socks; one of each color of course. As well as the leggings and the long t-shirt. Looking back I don’t know what I was thinking but it was in then and I had to follow the style, right?
My Grandmother’s lilacs! I think of my grandmother and her lilacs — a great big bush she had in her backyard — made bigger by the fact that I was a child and small in comparison. Every spring that big lilac bush would burst into bloom — lovely, huge, fragrant purple lilacs! My grandmother would clip and cut and have vases and jars of lilacs all over the house.
To me, the color purple means my Grandmother’s lilacs!
The first thing that comes to my mind is my Purple Shag Carpeting that I just had to have for my bedroom when I was a little girl. The whole room was purple but that carpeting was really purple! Cynthia
Purple reminds me of violets. We had tons growing near our house when I was a kid. We would always pick huge bouquets of them (along with dandylions) for our mom.
the first thing that comes to my mind is my daughters “purple” phase….when she was 3 years old…she wanted her entire world and all of her possessions to be purple….now she is 14..still sweeet….and so very wonderful in very way possible.. i look at her now, tho, and know that time passes too quickly…her purple days seems so longgg ago…the memory always makes me smile ..and whenever i see something purple..it reminds me of that time in her life..
I think of my sons’ High School colors. Both of my boys attended the same High school who’s mascot was a PURPLE PANTHER! Everyone who is a loyal fan bleeds PURPLE!
When my daughter was little she really liked the color purple and she looked so wonderful wearing purple clothes. She doesn’t care for it now, though she still looks gorgeous wearing purple. Lisa
My Mom’s lilac bush. In fact, she cut some for me for Mother’s Day and they are sitting in my entry.
The color purple always reminds me of my mother because she wears alot of that color. She will be 98 in Nov. and still lives in her own home and was still driving until she turned 97.
I love the new color of lavender coming out this month.
I think my first memory is drawing rainbows and the top color always had to be purple, that was before I was corrupted by “ROYGBIV”. But now the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful flowers that first pop us and say it’s “spring”.
My memory is of the two little girls playing their hand game and their sing-song voices. It brings with it a feeling of melancholy as I remember the rest of the story.
Purple is my favorite color. In fact, the shade that is this month’s release is pretty darn close to the colors of our wedding. We had periwinkle, lilac and white flowers. I told my DH when he asked why those colors and I told him that is the color I saw with my eyes shut when we had our first real kiss on our second date. To me, purple is sweet passion and I wanted to commemorate that in our wedding photos.
My sweet grand daughter!!!! She loves lavender and with her soft, strawberry blonde hair, she is absolutely radiant. Purple is a royal color fit for a queen…but lavender is fit for a princess. She is a princess!
The color purple reminds me of my older sister and my daughter. They both looked great in the lilac shades of purple. It’s a very sweet color. Very soothing and calm, like both of the girls’ personalities. My sister loves wisteria, maybe that was why I associated her with the lilac/purple color.

My first memory of the color purple is the bedroom that I shared with my little sister. The walls were lavender, and our twin size beds were adorned with lavender bedspreads with three tiers of different shades of purple going down the sides of the bed. It was the prettiest bedroom that I have ever seen.
The very first thing that comes to mind when I think of purple is my mom. She loved the color purple, especially lilacs in spring.
When you ask what the first thing that comes to my mind, I automatically think of my fellow crafty friend, Debbie. Purple is as much of her favorite color as pink is to mine. Everything I have that’s pink, she has in purple. I’ll have to order her some Lavender Moon goodies!
The color purple reminds me of lavender! I love love love the smell of lavender!!! Plus it is one of my favorite colors too!!!!
I am obsessed with purple; it is my fav color. LUV IT!!! I am the only girl in the house (I have 5 sons & 1 big boy) so I really don’t get to decorate with it, anyways…………my fav memory has to do with my grandpa & Irises ! Two more of my favorite things!! My grandpa bought my grandma a ton of them at Home Depot just hours before he died. She in turn shared them with me & they make me think of him every time I see them & they make me sooooo happy!! Just as this prize would! Thank you so much for the opportunity !! MWAH!
The color purple reminds of high school. It was our school color and well as one of my favorite colors. Plus it is also the color of my birthstone.
When I think of the color purple, I think of my mom. It is her favorite color.
The first thing that comes to mind when the color purple is mentioned is: LILACS. I just love lilacs. Mid to late-May is the time when they bloom here and the yard will soon be filled with their unique aroma. What I like most about lilacs is the clumps of flowers in one bunch. So delicate, such detail.
when I had my first daughter, everything was pink (of course). When I found out I was having a 2nd daughter, I decided to embrace purple as her color. She’s 8 now, and it is still “her” color.
…grape hyacinths in the flower bed in indiana when i was about 6…
The title made me think of the movie “The Color Purple” =)
Growing up my school colors were purple and white. I played on some of the sports teams so our uniforms were those colors. My parents were huge supporters so my Mom always bought everything in purple and white…to keep the team spirit…even my hairbrush!!!! Go Crusaders!
When I think of purple I think of royalty. This must have come from my childhood of reading stories of kings and queens with rich purple robes and white fur trim.
When I saw the phrase “the color purple” I definitely thought first of the movie.
As a child, I guess purple meant grape! The word itself always calls to mind Crayola crayons. And my favorite shade of purple is definitely lilac ~ that must be the most heavenly scent on earth to me 🙂
I love your Lavendar Moon shade – beautiful name, too. Makes me think of a sunset and a crescent moon.
Ahhh…the color purple you say? Brings me back into my childhood years where my dad was a master gardener. While we had several varieties of purple flowers my favorite had to be the lilacs. They were such a source of pride and dignity in our family garden. Walking outside in May became an ethereal experience. It signaled to me lazy afternoons where the neighborhood children and I always seemed to end up close by to my dad`s prized bushes. The heady fragrance must have just naturally drawn us to play our games of kick the can or rover rover close by. We had picnics on blankets with buzzing bees nearby that never seemed to bother us for they knew what delights awaited them in the full blooms of purple. From an early age hard work was instilled in me as I spent countless hours planting and weeding in our New England yard. It was here I was taught many a lifes` lesson as I worked side by side by the man I called Daddy. I was robbed of my father at the young age of 21 (as he died with a heart attack) but no one can ever erase the memories or good feelings that the color purple evokes to this day
When my son went to preschool at age 3, he told his teacher that his favorite color was purple. I was assured of this when at the end of the year, he brought home his box of crayons, and the only one that had been used was… the purple one! Now at 17, he still gets stuck in a rut from time to time but would deny he ever liked purple at all!
Prince. I’m not sure why… but I’m guessing because when I was young Prince was really big back then, & the movie Purple Rain was in theaters.
I think of flowers specifically lilacs and irises.
Not very original, but Fantasia because she starred in The Color Purple.
It reminds me of my sister dressed as grapes for halloween when I was really young! FUN!
How could it be anything other than Donny Osmond’s socks? Didn’t you have Donny and Marie dolls as a kid?? 🙂
My Grandma – Purple was her favorite color. She always had sheets with purple flowers, African Violets, Forget-Me-Nots, and the scent of lavender – especially at bedtime. Lavender, or “Sweet Dream Spray” is something I’ve continued with my daughters. I even have a lavender-sccented candle & sprig of lavender on my nightstand.
When I think of the color purple, I am reminded of my first ballet recital (I think I was 5): I was dancing a number called “The Good Ship Lollipop” in a purple tu-tu — with a big lollipop, of course! I have an ancient photo of me in that tu-tu… it is always my first “purple” thought!
My wedding day! Great Day!
The first thing that comes to mind is the lilac bush/tree that was outside my grandmother’s front door. It would be blooming right about now – she loved that tree. She’s in a nursing home now, and I know she misses all of her flowers and trees!
The color of my bedroom as a little girl growing up! My sister and I shared our room, and I think that color was the only thing we agreed on…ever!
When I hear the word or see the color purple I immediately think of my 8 year old daughter whose favorite colors are purple and pink. I always check out purple items for her to see if its something she would like and would go with her room. She my purple/pink princess.
Purple always reminds me of my friend Sandy! She loves the color purple and uses it everywhere. Purple sheets, shoes, purses, candles, dishes, sweaters and so much more. I think if she could get away with wearing everything purple she would. SHe’s the purple princess!
The memory I have that relates to the color purple would be grape soda and a sister who gets car sick. As kids we went to NC every Easter. After an afternoon of candy and grape soda we piled in the car to head home to Ohio. You have to go through the mountains and the roads are winding and curvy. Let’s just say the grape soda did not stay down. My yellow blankie was never the same and I could never drink grape soda again. Probably explains why I am more of a “pink” person. My parents force fed us Dramamine after that trip.
When I think of purple, my first thought is royalty.
The color purple reminds me that my four year old daughter is a cancer survivor. The color purple represents cancer survivors. We are blessed that she has finished her treatment and can be called a survivor!
My first thought was of my Mom who loves purple and wore a black/purple suit (much prettier than it sounds!!) for her wedding 5 years ago at age 74.
My mom’s favorite flowers are lilacs…and that’s what definitely comes to mind for me when I think of purple. It has always been my favorite color and I just love the new ribbon this month!! 🙂
I remember a lavender dress that I had as a little girl. It had little flowers around the neckline. I LOVED it and I LOVE purple!!!
Purple, actually the color LAVENDER reminds me of my childhood. Apparently I was obsessed with lavender and wanted everything in that color, including the sky.
I too used a lot of lavender fabric in my kids’ baby quilts and their nurseries.
Needless to say, the purple love is still strong and I’m thrilled to see PTI’s “lavender bloom”!
I always think of the beautiful Jacarandas that bloom in Queensland and the old saying that if you haven’t started studying by the time the jacarandas are blooming its too late!
Besides all of the purple grapes I individually peeled and quartered today for my 11 month old baby girl, I think of the fun song “Purple People Eater”!
Fields of heather in Ireland..
The scent of lavender in Provence..
an a film that made a huge impact on me.
The paper and ribbon are beautiful.. looking forward to having them on my shelf to use!
I think of my mom. She loves purple; she looks lovely wearing it and loves things like jewlery made from amythest stone, heather and purple roses.
When I was in middle school, I was in a school play and the t-shirt was purple. The great thing was the shirt said, “Good Kings Come in Small Packages,” and as middle schoolers we all thought it sounded soooooo much like a cigarette ad.
This is kind of funny, but I think of my mom and the movie, The Color Purple! My mom and I went to see it at the theatre. She had to go to the bathroom really bad but she kept waiting and waiting, thinking the movie was over. Finally, she couldn’t wait another second and she ran out to go. She missed one of the best parts of the movie while she was gone. All these years later, we STILL joke about it! 🙂
Hugs,
Cindy
As a kid, my grandmother had 3 huge lilac bushes–couldn’t wait for them to bloom–loved the smell–nothing like it.
Purple, the bluebonnets in April all around Texas… Love those wild flowers!
Donny Osmond’s purple socks!!!! He was dreamy :^)
Purple is the color of my birthstone, amethyst. That then reminds me that I shared a birthday with my maternal great grandmother who lived to be 95. She was precious. We had identical birthstone rings and I received hers upon her passing.
My first thought jumped to a homemade dress I had when i was about 12. Super fabulous lavendar. I was so proud of that dress. It had puffy sleeves. Wow.
My first thought of purple go to the lilacs in bloom when I was little. I was lucky enough to run the Blooms Day 12K the first weekend in May in Spokane, WA. the lilac capitol and loved the fragrance along the route.
I live in TX, so the first thing I think of are the beautiful Bluebonnets that normally bloom this time of year. Unfortunately, it has been dry this season so we have not been able to enjoy them. I wish I can see purple…
It reminds me of the 2 lilac trees in our front yard growing up and how I loved the smell. Now I live in “the Lilac Village” and didn’t know there were so many varieties of lilacs.
OMG… you said FIRST memory? This is sooooo embarassing! 7th grade… back in the early 70’s… I had this purple cordouroy (sp) jumper & I remember very well the first time I wore it… with a purple shirt underneath, purple hose and purple shoes! To make it worse, the shades didn’t exactly match. All day at school I wanted to die, because everyone was calling me “Grape Ape”!! (A purple cartoon ape)! Just keep in mind, that it WAS the 70’s, I was only in 7th grade & everyone dressed weird!! LOL
The color purple makes me think of my daughter. She loves purple.
Well, I wore purple underwear today!!! That’s my latest memory!
When someone says the color purple I always think of the movie “Purple Rain” with Prince. I know I am dating myself with that answer. LOL!
When I think of the color purple I think of my daughter. She loves purple. Her whole room is done in purple and she has many things in the color of purple.

Purple is my FAVORITE color!!! I love all the different shades of purple and can’t wait to add Lavender Moon to my collection of purples.
I think of violets. I had a nosegay for my prom made of these sweet flowers to match the silk violets on my dress. Oh, those OLD memories!
Grape bubble gum, the kind I used to get a the store for a penny. It was so much fun shopping with a quarter and getting a soda, chips and five pieces of penny candy. Those were the days!
When I think of the color purple I think of my room when I was a little girl. I had purple flowered wall paper, a purple comforter on my bed, purple curtains and a purple and white afghan my grandmother made for me.
Gretchen F.
My sister and I had matching Easter dresses that were purple- we are old enough, though, that the pictures are only in black and white!
Awesome sets once again! and I do love lavender. Thanks for a chance to win!
Believe it or not, the first memory that comes to mind when I think of purple, is the kids’ television show, Barney. My oldest daughter loved to watch Barney when she was little!!
There are two things…Lent (the church colors are purple during that time) and my grandmother’s irises. I have bulbs from the original ones she received from a friend in the Netherlands for her wedding…way back in 1924. Each year that they bloom I think of her! Purple is a great color to remember!
I would have to say violets or our lavender tree but then I am big on flowers so that doesn’t surprise me. Maybe purple will be my lucky color.
The first memory that comes to my mind when I think of purple is my first set of Crayola magic markers. It was the classic set of eight and the purple marker was always my favorite. I would carry it around with me and take it out and stare at it because I just loved the shade of purple! I’ve since graduated to other shades of purple, and I’m very much looking forward to getting Lavender Moon!
The first thing I thought of was grape popsicles! I love when the weather gets warm because you will always find a box of popsicles in my freezer just like when I was a little girl.
when I think of purple I think of lilacs. My parents had a few bushes in the backyard. when I was a young girl I used to love to pick the flowers for my mom’s vase.
I had to reflect on that one a minute. There are actually 2 things that I think of when I think of the color purple. One is the movie called “The Color Purple.” I saw is many years ago for the first time and it is a favorite of mine to this day.
But the sweetest thing about the color purple that I love is that all of my daughters love purple from the first time they saw it. So, I have had a bunch of purple in my life to bring special joys. Purple crayons, purple rooms, purple prom dresses, purple sand buckets. Six of my eight children are girls. So basically, I have lived a lifetime of purple. Purple book covers, purple earrings, purple notebooks, everything purple. I hope you will have lots of purple for your May edition. I think I know a couple girls that could convince me to buy a bunch of purple stuff…(I kinda like the color too!)
My friend Phyllis! Her favorite color is purple and she wears something purple everyday. 🙂
It reminds me of royalty and the royal robes that Jesus will be wearing when I get up to Heaven. Hey – I outta make an abstract scrap about that!
My mother’s cousin, Audrey, loved purple. She “told” me that she would be in the Ice Capades in Milwaukee when I was 5, and that I should look for the skater in purple who was skating with 1 tiny blade balancing on her nose! I spent the whole show looking for her! I really miss her….She was really fun!
When I think of the color purple, I think of my wedding. Our colors were purple and white. The shade of my bridesmaids dresses was almost exactly the color of your new Lavender Moon. I love it.
I think of purple tulips that you can get this time of year. I love to get them and put them in my kitchen. Tulips are so fresh and beautiful.
My first thought about purple is my daughter. It’s always been her favorite color. Then I think of our garden as purple flowers are my favorite!
The most meaningful memory of purple for me belongs to my old neighborhood. I wish my children could experience what I had growing up in my childhood neighborhood. I remember playing out late on summer nights; playing house on our porch; our Blue Bells club but my favorite was our neighbor’s lilac bushes. It made our alley seem like a flowering garden. I would always pick a bunch for my mom. My Mom and I often reflect back on those good ole’ days and those flowers.
Bedroom walls. I begged my mom and dad to let me paint my walls purple, finally they caved, I had a purple quilt, purple curtains, purple throw rug, no more then six months later I was begging them to let me paint it white again-too much purple but it’s still one of my favorite colors!
I WANT IT ALL!!!!!!
Wow, I’m not sure my brain works right. Within moments of reading the question, I thought of “The Color Purple,” movie, lavender, lilacs and Lent–pretty much in that order, but almost instantaneously. It’s amazing how many associations we make with colors, eh?
BTW, the DP looks good enough to eat!
The color purple reminds me of the tie dye phase. ahhh…memories!
My sister’s bedroom growing up. Her walls were painted purple, her bedding and curtains were purple, all her little decorations were purple… it was pretty bad but she LOVED it. It’s only been in the last couple of years that I have learned to love the color purple!
When I think of the color purple, I think of my daughter–it is her favorite color!
My first thought that comes to mind when I see purple is my baby sister (who is now 31!) Her favorite color still to this day is purple! Thanks for the chance!
Heather B.
UM, this is bad but under-age drinking of jello shooters!!!!
The color purple makes me think of the hideous prom dress I wore in high school (over 15 years ago) with way too many ruffles for one person and a sheen that blinded you.
The first thing that pops into my mind is a friend of mine ~ Marti. She LOVES purples in any shade. I always love it at stamp camp when we are getting ready to use some shade of purple ~ from lovely lilac to elegant eggplant ~ she really gets excited.
I LOVE purple. And your collection is just beautiful. I will always remember my Grandma’s lilac bushes on their farm in Idaho. They were one of the first signs that Spring was here and the long winter was over.
Wendy stampinfromtheheart.blogspot.com
When I was a kid, my room was yellow and all my furniture was painted purple. That’s what I think of!
The color purple always reminds me of mom. She loves purple.
My grandmother’s scarves. She always had tons and we LOVED playing with them. She loved purple, so there were lots and lots of purple scarves to choose from. :o)
When I think of purple I think of wildflowers.
eggplants! my favorite vegetable!
Well, ‘When I am old I shall wear purple’, but Lavender Moon looks more like Lilacs to me! But really, nIhcole, I can’t wait to see it with the paper, and little bitty animals! yeah!
At 9 years of age I finally got my own room and it was painted purple. Since then I have always loved the color and any shade of purple. Ironically, it is my son’s birthstone color too. Awwww, nice memories.
I always think of my sister, Karen. She has every purple thing imaginable, and she has even passed along her purple passion to her girls. She’d drive a purple car if she could!
My grandfather HATED purple, but as a young girl, I LOVED purple. Of course he and my grandmother always had to buy me purple stuff and purple cloths and of course I always asked him “do you like it grampy??”. He would smile and tell me how beautiful it all was. That was, of course, a long time ago. Sadly, my grandfather passed away 2 years ago. When packing to head to the funeral in the dead of winter, I had trouble deciding what to pack and wear to the funeral. I decided to pick a black pinstrip suit but couldn’t decide what to wear for a shirt….until I saw my purple blouse. I knew I would have to wear it!! During the very sad service….I would occasionally catch a glimps of my purple blouse, look up and give my grandfather a smile 🙂 I’m sure he was smiling down at me too!!
Thanks for such a beautiful purple! I love it!!
Purple is my favorite color!!! I have pens and lots of cardstock to keep me smiling. It’s just a pretty color that makes me smile.
Purple is my FAVOURITE colour and it was the colour of my dress for my high school graduation.
wow! 9minutes in and there are already 170-something comments. that is amazing! anyway, purple is one of my favorite colors. When I think of purple I think of lilacs (my favorite smell/flower) and my wedding-My brides maids dresses where an awesome color of plum purple, deep and dark with a bit of shimmer to the skirts. I loved them! Oh, I hope I win. It would just make my week! good luck every one.
It makes me think of Spring and Easter. But the best thing I think of is hearing how my little 2 year old pronouces the word “purple”. I wish I could spell it out, it sounds so adorable!
When we were young we would go outside to play with the lightning bugs. I remember those hot summer nights and sometimes there would be beautiful streaks in the sky of different shades of purple.
The phrase “the color purple” makes me think of the movie. The actual word purple makes me think of my mother-in-law because she has eggplant colored dishes 🙂
When I think of the color purple, it reminds me of my most favorite book when I was little. I loved it because it was the tinest book so I thought it was cute and because I loved being swept away into a wonderful imaginary world each time I read it. I used to check it out of the library over and over and over again. What is the book………….Harold and the Purple Crayon! What that little boy could draw with his purple crayon!!! LOVED IT!!!
Purple makes me think of a job I recently left. For eight years, I taught at a junior high whose school colors are purple and white. While I love being able to stay home with my daughter and feel very blessed to do so, I also know what a blessing it was to have a job that I loved in such a great school!
I first remember purple as it was the color of my first 10 speed bike. It was pink and purple and I wanted it for sooo long. This was the late 80’s,and hot pink and purple was cool! I still do looove purple.Just not on my clothing. My little girls, tho!I
Well, right about now to hear the color purple makes me think of one thing. The purple minute maid frozen juicys. They are triangle shaped popsicle like treats that we buy every visit to the store and my two boys and I always fight over the purple ones. They are sold in a box with red, orange and purple. It’s so common to hear, “who ate the last purple one?!!” got you all racing to try these babies, huh?lol:)have a good one!
The first thing I thought of was my grandmother. Her favorite color was purple. She had red hair and always picked a shade a purple that totally clashed with it. She died last year. Thank you for bringing back those memories I had forgotten.
When I hear the word PURPLE, it reminds me of a movie that left such a profound impact in my life when I saw it and continues to impact my life as the years go by. The movie is “The Color Purple”. Some things that come to mind are the true LOVE OF FAMILY, the POWER OF FORGIVENESS and the POWER OF HOPE.
Working in a bowling alley with purple walls. It was everywhere. It surrounded me. The owner claimed it put people in the mood to drink! LOL
When I think of purple I think of lilacs. My Dad had the most wonderful hedge of lilacs bordering his property on all sides. The aroma was present throughout the whole neighborhood. Whenever I smell lilacs to this day, I have happy memories of Dad.
Thirty years worth of students at my school, the football, basketball, volleyball, track teams, all dressed in Purple and White, our school colors.
When I see the color lavender, I can instantly “smell” lilac blooms. It’s the only color that has a scent for me! Mmmmmmm….purple!
a dress I had for easter around the age of 7 or 8. It was one of those dresses that were great for twirling around in!

Chris Wenzel in Naperville, IL
Jelly beans…mmmmmmmm!
When I read “What thought or memory first comes to mind when you think of the color purple?” I automatically thought of the movie The Color Purple however when I think of the word purple, I think of sympathy cards.
Lilacs and the smell of spring!
I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old moving into a new room in our house and I got to pick the color – purple! It was a shade very similar to the Lavendar Moon color – soft, pretty, a little on the pinkish side. I LOVED that room!! That’s what I thought of immediately when I saw the new color! 🙂
The color purple reminds me of being a teenager, because it was my absolute favorite color back then. Yeah, I can actually remember back that far! LOL!
I think of lovely lavender blowing in the breeze in Washington state.
I have always loved purples and lavenders. I had them in my wedding (my maid of honor wore lavender) and we all carried the most beautiful lilacs! I have loved purple forever… the funny thing is that old saying..”when I get old I’m going to wear purple”…. I laugh every time I hear that, because I’ve always worn purple, look good in the color and I intend to wear it to my grave! LOL! I am now officially “old” so I guess it’s OK for me to wear it now. I love purple… all shades!
For the purple, for the purple, for the purple, FIGHT, FIGHT! (I wish I had a dime for every time I cheered those words!) Purple cheerleading uniform, purple basketball uniform, purple volleyball uniform, purple letter jacket… As a ’76 grad of Sanger High School (TX), I think of my hometown and my school. Ah, the memories!
The color Purple brings to my mind ROYALTY. I much prefer lavender, though.
When I think of purple, it brings to mind my beautiful twin daughters ~ when they were babies. They looked so much alike we started dressing one of them in pink and the other in purple – always! Now that they are 19 (WOW – time flies), my daughter Lacy (who always wore the purple) still loves purple and my daughter Lindsay who always wore pink still loves pink! How amazing is that, that after 19 years they would still love their colors. I think it’s in their DNA now 🙂 LOL
I love the color purple. When you state the question the way you did I think about the movie “The Color Purple”.
Marla
The first thing that comes to my mind is pansies…I love them cuz they are so pretty in spring.
Jan W.
Purple….reminders me of the lilacs planted along side our patio in the house I grew up in…i can still smell them. That’s where my parents always had us stand for photo’s…the lilacs where the background. What great memories!
Looking forward to seeing all the new sets.
diane
The first thing that comes to mind when I think purple – a soft purple anyway is Lilacs. Growing up we had a HUGE Korean Lilac bush on the side of our house. They smelled divine.
I think of lavender and lilacs – my two favorite flowers!
When I think of purple, I think of my room 🙂 When I was visting my Aunt, Uncle and cousin in Alaska, my mom re-did my room purple and then her and my grandma painted the ceiling like the sky and decorated it with butterflies 🙂
My twin sister loves purple. It seemed when we were younger she had to have everything purple.
Well, she had a boy and guess what color is his favorite color? Yep, purple!
He wanted everything purple including shirts. Do you know how hard it is to find purple shirts for little fellas? The only sure thing is Viking wear ( football ). He loves football but you can’t wear them to Sunday meetings.
He isn’t as obsessed with purple now but he’s more into blue. But my sister painted her bathroom purple and he walked in and said “WOW”!
The color purple reminds me of flower gardens filled with beautiful lilacs and spring, my favorite times of the year.
When someone says the color purple I always think of the movie “Purple Rain” with Prince. I know I am dating myself with that answer. LOL!
The purple suede shows I had my junior year of high school (to match my purple Laura Ashley suit, purple skirt, purple peasant dress — well, you get the picture). That year was my “purple” year. I still love it and can’t wait to order the Lavender Moon collection.
I lost both my parents when I was young but I remember my mom letting me paint my bedroom purple. It made my bedroom special.
Because of this, I’ve been liberal with letting my 4 kids paint their bedroom pretty much any color.
I’ve always loved purple and now our bedroom in our “grown up” house is purple.
It is one of my favorite colors to wear, decorate and design with, green and purple — spring’s creative combination.
I think of my late Nana’s purple jacket that she wore to all of our formal occasions. She looked so regal!
Kansas State Wildcats, of course!!! Yes, I know we didn’t do well this season, but there is always next year!
My wedding. I used lavender accents in decorations, the brides maid dresses and even had a little on my very own dress. Purple and any shade of it has always been my favorite color.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the movie “The Color Purple” that Oprah Winfrey was in – it was a terrific story and made a great impression on me when it came out.
PURPLE…. reminds me of my mother (it is her favorite color) as well as sweet, luscious grapes.
I love your color purple and cannot wait to get some in my hands!!!!
Donny Osmond and his purple glitter socks!!! I grew up watching the Donny and Marie Show and Donny had these purple glitter socks! One of the neighborhood girls was in lOvE with Donny (we all were I think) and had IT especially hard. She had her birthday party and the theme of it was Donny Osmond!!! I laugh out loud as I type this, because the party had everything purple and Donny around the house. The only bad thing was the cake. Her Mom made a BEAUTIFUL purple cake, but it TASTED HORRIBLE!!! I don’t know if she was trying to make it TASTE purple or what, but it was BAD!!! You have to keep in mind that this was before the days of pre-packaged cake mixes and frostings. Everything was made by hand from scratch. After all was said and done, me and my Mom went back over there, and realized that she had scooped into her SALT container, NOT the sugar container! BLAH!!!! That is my first memory of purple and it hasn’t made me waiver from it – I STILL love purple to this day!!!
The thought that came to my mind was the shade of light purple eyeshadow that my middle school best friend used to wear. It was a lovely shade of purple and she was a very pretty girl. She has since passed away and it really made me smile to think of her in that shadow – thanks for the memories Nichole!
It reminds me of my high school colors, which were purple and gold.
When I think of the color purple I think of the cutest little purple dress I bought for my daughter when she was born. It brings back special memories.
Hot grapes straight from the vine in the summer. My parents recently sold the house that I grew up in, but we had a grape arbor and I would go out with a collander and bring in tons of sweet purple grapes every day. We had grapes forever….so did everyone we knew because we had to keep giving them away. They always tasted better right off the vines.
When I first think of purple, I remember the wild purple shag carpet in the mountain cabin that my husband rented for our honeymoon. LOL–that’s ALL I’m going to say about that on this blog!! : )
The lilacs at my parent’s house. Every Memorial Day they would be in full bloom. The smell takes me home everytime.
The color purple reminds me of Grimace, the big purple shaped thing at McDonalds. I thought he was the cutest of all the characters as he looked like a big pear or a stuffed animal I could put my arms around. His oval eyes, his wide smile, and the funny thick black eyebrows, always brought a smile to my face. A Happy Meal was a treat when I was a child. Do they still have those? My mom and dad would take my younger sister and I on our birthday or as a reward, like when we finished our homework or were polite and well-behaved. I don’t remember the toys, probably some cheap plastic trinket, but I remember opening the box and taking out my hamburger and french fries. I loved those orange drinks. It’s orange, like orange juice, so it must be okay, right? And the fact that everything came in a colorful box with pictures, made everything taste even better.
Our family continued to go to McDonalds after I grew out of the Happy Meal. We ate in moderation—these were the days before everything was Super Sized—and we’d still go as a special treat. When Chicken McNuggets were introduced, we tried all four sauces, and decided that Sweet and Sour was our favorite. I’d slurp the minty Shamrock Shakes on St. Patrick’s Day. When the McChicken was invented, it was a big event in our family because, despite the fact that the chicken was deep-fried, my parents still thought it was healthier than a hamburger. Our favorite, though, were the fish-filet sandwiches in the crinkly blue paper wrappers. My mom and dad, immigrants from Taiwan, weren’t used to the sauces—the ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and whatever sauce was on the Big Mac tasted gooey and foreign to them—and they weren’t accustomed to eating a lot of cheese, so they would always order the fish-filet sandwiches without the tarter sauce or cheese. (This was under another illusion: the “fish” must be healthier than a hamburger.) Just plain on the bun.
Then we would sit down on the plastic benches to wait. We waited for what seemed like forever, as in those days McDonalds pre-made their sandwiches, so they would actually have to get a new bun, warm up a piece of fish, etc, etc. I would fidget, tap my fingers, breath in the smell of fried oil, until my dad put the tray on the table. My sister and I would grab at the fries and then ate really fast, fully satiated.
I did not expect to reminisce about a fast-food chain for a paper craft contest…but oh well, this is what came out of my head tonight. Probably because it is past 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time and I have not eaten dinner yet.
Debbie
A fond memory I have of the color purple…when my boyfriend and I first started dating he had to go out of town on a business trip and was gone for several days…upon his return he gave me a present he bought while away. It was an amethyst (purple) bracelet…very pretty…it was nice to know that he was thinking of me while we were apart.
Charmaine
The red hat club! All those saucy ladies with red and purple!
Grape Bubble-Yum.
When I was a kid I’d walk the mile to the general store to buy it. Now I can’t stand the smell/taste, but then, oh, boy, it was the best thing.
Mine would have to be lilacs. oh, they’re so pretty and smell wonderfully.
When thinking of the color purple, my first thought is Tinky Winky from Teletubbies!!
My kids used to watch the show all the time!
The movie, The Color Purple, of course! It just rolls off the tongue.
One year I read the poem called “Warning” by Jenny Joseph. It talks about an old woman wearing a purple dress and a red hat. This poem is how the Red Hat Society was formed.
That same year I gave a hand-created copy, stamped up and everything, of the poem with her first red hat.
I know this is going to sound silly, but I remember my first black eye. I played catcher on a softball team for 7 years. During a practice I threw off my helmet to see a foul ball better…you guessed it, right in the eye. It was a very pretty shade of violet, but it didn’t feel very pretty!
Purple is representative to passion for me…like a deep, enduring drive for something. It is my favorite color as well. Lavender is my favorite flower and, of course, it is a shade of purple as well. The first thing I think of when purple is mentioned is the song from my childhood “Purple People Eater” for some reason. In fact now I am singing it in my head…heehee! It makes me reminisce of childhood days…
The first thing that comes to mind is my wedding, lavender was my color, as it was for my mother when she got married!
My 1st memory of purple (which is my fave color by the way!) is a doll my adoptive mother got me when I was about 3 yo. She looked likc holly hobbie and was beautiful!!! And a few years ago she got my youngest daughter one that looked just like her, except my daughters doll wears blue!
My first thought is of my late grandmother, her favorite color was purple and she always wore those floral polyester tops and it would always have the color purple in it. So I asociate that color with her.
okay…dating myself here, but I think of Donnie Osmond and his purple socks, lol!
The one thing that comes to mind is the singer Prince! LOL There’s an 80’s flashback for you!
Well I think of two things, My Grandmother and of course the movie “The Color Purple”. My grandmother said purple is the color of royalty. She always wore purple, now that she has passed the color reminds me of her. The movie “The Color Purple” has to be one of the best movies ever!!
Lilacs. Wonderfully fragrant lilacs. My mom use to have a purple lilac bush in our backyard, and we’d sit under it after going for a swim and have an ice cold drink on a hot summer day.
When I was a little girl all the other girls liked pink and purple. I had to be different and my favorite color was lavender. My whole room was decorated in lavender (and rainbows!).
I think of the movie “The Color Purple,” too! Other remembrances come from childhood—my grandmother’s purple glassware and Lilacs perfume (who made that? I loved it as a 12-yr-old)!
My best friend in schools favourite colour was purple. And she used to have this big cat poster in her room with three kittens on a purple blanket.
25 years later and she is still my best friend and her favourite colour has moved onto red.
When you word it that way, it’s love to say that it’s butterflies and flowers, but “The Color Purple” reminds me of a movie, a very sad movie! But don’t get me wrong….I LOVE purple! I painted my daughter’s room purple!! Sorry I can’t stay up any later….must get some shut eye! I’ll check back in with everyone in the morning!!! Thanks Nichole!
Pansies! I have so many – they are my favorite flower and I have so many variations of purple. I know the Lavendar Moon would match one of mine!
My alma mater colors are (royal) purple and gold, so whenever I think of purple, I think of JMU ~ Go Dukes!
I think of the lilac bush in our yard that looks amazing and smells even better! I love to cut them and bring them in to make the house feel like spring.
Like everyone else, I am excited to see this release! Looks like another great one! When I think of the color purple, I think of two things, barney and donny osmond’s socks. Bizarre, I know…
thanks…Michele h
Hello,
When I think of purple I think of royalty. But as I thought a little bit more, purple reminds me of the color that hangs on the cross in our church each Lenten season and on Good Friday, the death of Christ on the cross. Also, I think of myself as purple is my favorite color.
Barbara B.
When I saw the question, my first thought was my pruple tulips I got for Mother’s Day. They are sooo pretty and I love to look at them, they are also opening up right now and smells wonderful. Thanks for a chance to win!!! I am in love with your stamps 🙂
I’m embarrassed to say, but you said the first thought… when I was little my favorite color was “pooper” a.k.a. purple.
Purple makes me think of my mum, and her mum, and being a mum. To me, it’s the colour of motherhood, of love, support, understanding and acceptance.
When I was in first grade I had a purple sweater with a cat on it… it was my favorite! I didn’t understand why I couldn’t wear it in the summer.
When I think of the color purple, my first thought is of my Grandma. She is always wearing something that has that color on it!
Thanks,
Trish
When I think of Purple, I think of my childhood and youth and fruity smells! It is such a comforting color to me. Those days were good — the road seemed endless! Looking forward to the new releases!
My first thought when I read the question was the movie “The Color Purple.” What a wonderful book and movie that remains a classic still.
I think of fields of wildflowers and grape popcicles.
My first feeling when you say or show me purple is contentment. It puts a smile on my face. Purple as a color makes me happy. I have always had it as my favorite color. And now there is rarely a day I don’t go with out of the house with out some purple on. I love the color. I am sure many of my friends would say me as thier first thought when you say purple.
spring flowers…the purple tulips I gave to my mother when I was younger
Purple and Gold are the school colors of the university I graduated from. Fond memories!
Tracy Y
I have to say Prince, or the artist formerly known as Prince. More specifically his song Purple Rain.
When i think of purple I think of my grandma. She had a ginormous field of flowers at her house and I will always remember the purple ones. I miss my grammy. sigh.
The first thing I think of is my Grandma….she loved the color purple!!
The first thing that comes to mind is my grandma–she’s gone now, but I often chuckle when I think about her clothes. She was an excellent sewer and made most of her own clothes. Of course, she made many suits–all the same pattern, but in different colors. She had a lovely lavender one–it’s just so vivid in my memory. It was a lavender polyester suit–all hand sown–and she looked just beautiful in it. She was so proud of her skill, and how thrifty she was.
Thanks for the memories.
Janet B
I think of those red hat ladies with the groovy red and purple hats. Saucy
My favorite color for as long as I can remember.
My mom. She has this thing for the color purple. It’s not actually her favorite color but she swears that every woman looks good in purple. I’m not sure she’s wrong . . . though I’d never admit that to her. 😉
What I think of when I think of purple is when my mom decided it was time for me to have a grown-up bedroom. My favorite color was/is lavender, and she painted my room in this incredibly soft color, almost exactly the same color as Lavender Moon. She was never as in to purple as I was, but she’s always said since that it was her favorite color she’d ever done a room in – and when I got married, she took over my room as her sewing/craft room because it’s her favorite room in the house. It really is a great room!
One of my favorite dresses when I was a little girl was purple and white gingham with a white pinafore over it. The bottom front of the pinafore had purple buttons with the embroidered saying, ‘button, button, who’s got the button’ !
The color purple reminds me of all the beautiful spring flowers. Tiny spring violets you find in the woods, sweet smelling hyacinthus at Easter time and lilacs gently blowing in the air.
My first thought when I hear ‘purple’…His Royal Purpleness himself — Prince! I know he’s changed his look, but I always picture him first in the purple jacket from the Purple Rain era.
The color purple reminds me of my niece Lisa. She was born with so many health problems and we didn’t think she was going to make it. She’s our miracle baby and she is now 6 and doing well. Her favorite color is purple and I think of her everytime I see it. She is such a blessing and a miracle! I use alot of purple in her scrapbooks so I’m excited for Lavender Moon. Dottie K. 🙂
My first thought when I think of the color purple is Easter. Than I think of lilacs. 🙂
The color purple reminds me of flowers. I love purple pansies! It also reminds me of Prince, the Purple Rain one!
I saw a couple of other people mention this poem so I wanted to put the whole thing right here for people to read and giggle at:
WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Purple makes me think of my daughter Danielle, whose favorite color for years was bright purple! She had several purple birthday cakes but I resisted her pleadings to paint her room purple!:-)
Ok, believe it or not, the first thing that comes to my mind about purple is Barney. I used to watch that show daily and loved Barney and Baby Bop, and all the kids! That was awhile ago. And come to think of it, I even have a Barney doll!!! shhh….don’t tell no one, ok? lol…
I think of me and my sister’s bedroom when we were young! We painted the walls purple, or lavender, and had lavender floral bedspreads too! ~~Pam
Purple always reminds me of my moms lilac tree up home. It is huge. A local photographer actually took a great photo of it after my mom died and named the photo “Elaine’s Lilac” after my mom. My dad gave me a framed photo of it for my birthday last month. So pretty.
When I think of purple, I think of my wedding because I used lilacs and purple hydrangeas as the flowers. It was beautiful if I do say so myself! 🙂
MY MUM! – it’s her favourite colour! Everytime I see something purple I want to get it for her… I’ve bought her many a quirky purple item! (Purple spatula… eggwhisk… veggie peeler… as well as the usual pashmina, cushions, pens etc.)
I’m sure she’d just love a set with purple PTI!!!
Purple makes me think of the Concord grapevine that grew on the fence separating my grandfather’s yard from the neighbor’s. The grapes smelled wonderful, and they tasted great, and we would eat all of them that grew on our side of the fence.
Flowers, I love the pansies that come with two different shades of purple. I actually like any flower that has purple in it, except lilacs, I admire them from afar as I’m highly allergic. Thanks ~Julie
I immediately think of a former co-worker, Harriet. She wore purple from head to toe, including her eye glasses! She even drove a purple car! Anything purple brought a smile to her face and she was a pleasure to work with. That lasting impression of Harriet defines purple to me – HAPPY!
I also think of the movie, “The Color Purple” when you ask about “the color purple”, then I think about the purple suede roller skates my parents bought me when I was in my teens. They had purple laces and purple pompoms and I just loved those skates – and my parents for finding me just what I wanted! Thank you for the reminder of a sweet memory.
Looking forward to tonight!
Thanks, Karen U
The first time I won a National Championship title with my horses, I was 12 and my colors were dark purple and neon orange. Very stylish when you are 12.
It’s a good life!
Terri E.
Purple make me think of my sister. It is her favorite color and always has been. If I buy her something, it’s purple. When I wear something purple, I think of her. I’m green, she’s purple. We don’t live near each other, but sometimes when I wear purple, I feel closer to her.
I think of royalty….. Jesus Christ.
When I think of the color purple, I think of my favorite animal – the hippo!! Purple also happens to be my favorite color, so all my bases are covered 🙂
Mmmm….. Grape Kool-Aid! My favorite to this day! 🙂
Purple is my favorite color… and it reminds me of my sorority and of my favorite fabric: Waverly Sweet Violets. YUM! 🙂
When I think of purple I think of the purple Schwin bicycle that I got for my 10th birthday. It was “sweet!” I remember riding it down the driveway thinking life was good!
My first thought—-Velvet! There are a ton of pictures of me as a kid wearing royal purple velvet dresses standing (yes standing?) on a green shiny couch posing. Must have been a popular color in the 70’s.
LOL, when I read your question I immediately thought of the very first cassette tape I ever bought when I was a kid… Prince’s Purple Rain!
Purple reminds me of my college team’s colors. That brings back so many great memories. However that shade of purple was much lighter than your new Lavendar Moon. I’m excited to see it in person. Thanks for your great products!
What a fun contest … when I think of purple I think of royalty and the “richest” colour out there … thanks Nichole… Karen Rose
A house across the street. When we purchased our house as graduate students, the house across the street was wood stained PURPLE. I saw that house everyday for 5 years, and to this day I can’t believe someone would stain wood siding purple. The sad thing? The neighbors told me that it had become muted with time. When they first did it, they said it was electric purple!
I have never seen a house quite like that since.
My college times…our sorority flower is the violet.
Two things immediately come to mind:
“The Color Purple” and “Purple Rain”.
Love purples!
My brother’s first daughter, due to be born in three weeks – her room is decorated in lavender and we just can’t wait to meet her. How perfect that the Bitty Baby collection will arrive shortly before she will. Thanks!
When I think of purple or lavender I think of dyed Easter eggs and the cute little girls in church with their lavender Easter dresses.
Purple reminds me of the time of year when spring is fading into summer. The promise of beautiful sunny days to come.
My all time favorite color! And it also reminds me of my grandma who used to love purple too!
Every summer we would go visit my grandparents in Texas. I loved Grandma so much that I never wanted to go home. Grandma loved the color of purple. She had iris’s, lilacs, pansies and other purple flowers all through out her garden. A lavendar bathroom and always wore Lilac Perfume. But the one thing that was the most dearest to her was the purple amethyst ring Grandpa gave her on her 30th birthday. She had shared with us kids how she got so mad at him for purchasing a luxury item in the time of the depression, as they needed the money for groceries and for clothing the children. But he said when he saw it, it reminded him of her beautiful deep blue eyes that he swore were actually purple. She never took that ring off. Later on in the years when she became frail and was skin and bones, she wouldn’t part with it, so she had my mother get her a gold chain to wear it around her neck. She stated that it was part of her and that Burl (her husband) was always close to her heart even though he was already in heaven. Months passed and Grandma went to heaven. After Grandma’s funeral we were all gathered at my Aunts house and she came to me with a very faded velvet pink box and said that Grandma wanted me to have this since I was the first granddaughter. I opened it and there sat the purple amethyst ring in all its glory. The gold band although thin, was still holding this priceless jewel that was so dear to her heart. I have since then had it placed on a much wider gold band and wear it everyday as she did. This is an heirloom with the story behind it to be passed on to my daughter and onto hers and all the generations to come.
Donny Osmond … how embarrassing is that? LOL
When I think of purple, I think of soothing colors that run into a spa like setting.
Purple is my FAVORITE color! It makes me think of some special friends. We all claim purple as our favorite color, and collect purple embellishments for our cards! I can’t wait to try the new PTI color!!
My first thought is the flower field scene in the Movie the Color Purple. Then from there the color purple means celebration of life because 2 of the 3 people whom I love/loved are cancer surviors. Before I was aware of the cancer awareness colors royal purple had always been a favorite of mine, I wear it well ;-).
Purple is such a romantic color to me!!! Why? Because back 40+ years ago when my husband proposed to me, the song, Deep Purple, was playing on the radio!
The color purple reminds me of when I was a young girl, when my parents would take me to San Antonio. Every time we went there we had to stop at the “Purple Store” because my mom and I’s favorite color is purple.
When I first moved out and lived alone, I got bedding that was all purple. I loved it, and still have it, but it’s for guests now b/c I have a king-sized bed and the purple bedding is full-sized. Oh, and I had purple towels, too.
I love, love, love the new color – can’t wait to see all the new sets!
Kerry
When we were little kids, my mom bought us all new coats for Christmas one year…. my youngest sister got the fuzzy purple coat. (I got the brown one and my other sister got the red one, in case anyone was wondering :-)).
Oh Nichole, I love these little contests you hold. They’re so much fun and very generous of you.
Hugs!
PURPLE reminds me of when I was 7 years old, and I was running so fast after the kick ball, I couldn’t stop and I fell over it. My knee was so purple later on, I still have the scars from the fall!
My wedding! My flowers were orchids, the bridesmaids had on ametyhst. My bedroom walls are purple!
Thanks for a chance to win!
Lisa
I was shopping with a good friend and saw for the first time a small picture with the poem “when I grow old I shall wear purple”, if you read the whole poem, I decide I was almost there. (A good thing)
I think purple will forever remind me of my daughter. She just turned 2. I have always loved the color purple on her. She has the most gorgeous blue eye with a hint of purple in them and when she wears purple, wow!
My grandmother comes to mind when I think of purple. Her favorite color is purple.
–Misti
The color purple reminds me of my grandmother’s lilacs! She has several shades of lilacs, but my favorite was the light purple. 🙂
The first thought that comes to mind is that purple is my least favorite color, lol! However, I might have to re-think that after seeing this month’s release 🙂
Purple is my very favorite color. Purple reminds me of beauty and serenity. A relaxing lavender or summer days with grape kool aid. I love it paired up with green.
I’m a member of the Red Hat Society, and it is so much fun to go out with a purple dress on with a red hat!
my first thought is my mom, it’s her favorite color.
When I think of purple, I think of my 2 1/2 year old niece, Ariana. She has just the right complexion to look adorable in purple. Not that she needed anymore help in the adorable department: she has won Aunt Minny’s heart! (If I could post a picture, I would.)
“The Color Purple”? Ohhh, that is so easy. My very first thought ran to pleasant memories of my mother-in-law. Edna was a keeper! From the very first she loved and accepted me, and I cannot remember a time that she did not wear clothing in one shade of purple or another. She decorated her bedroom with purple clematis pictures, her bathroom in green ivy with purple towels, collected as many different purple quilt fabrics as she could find, had a super soft lavender chenille throw, and many purple sweatshirts, jackets, and windbreakers. When she died a few years ago and we held her wake, I made sure to have the lovely photograph of her matted in a pretty lavender. She will always bring pleasant memories of purple to my mind. She would adore the shade you are introducing this month.
I think of my kitchen b/c it’s painted purple! When I tell people that I have a purple kitchen they can’t believe it. I think they imagine a bright purple but when they see it they all say that it’s very nice (it’s a muted purple w/gray in it).
I think of a precious baby girl with a sweet spirit! Everyone goes for pink, but there is something so sweet about a soft purple.
LSU Tigers!! And my bedroom as a little girl that had lavender walls and lacy curtains.
purple reminds me of highschool. that was the color i liked to dye my hair!
When I think of purple, I think of Easter. That’s what always comes to mind before anything else.
Violets. Johnny Jump Ups, pansies…any flower with that sweet shape. Love ’em all! And all shades of purple are such wonderful complements for all shades of green.
my husband is a student at university of washington purple is the school color we are big fans of purple
GO HUSKIES
Whoopee Goldberg. That movie is one of the best.
I think of dusk, complete with jasmine blooming and fireflies. I love the new color!
The first thing that comes to mind is the lovely smell of the Lavender Lilac shampoo in my shower. S’wonderful! But one totally random memory that popped into my mind was the theme of Homecoming during my freshman year – Purple Rain. Remember that song by Prince? There were purple decorations everywhere! 🙂
I am old enough to remember the “purple box” in the my mother’s closet when I was little.
Later, I met a fellow who owned a purple and white Dodge Challenger (with lots of go-power!)I am still married to him, but, he sold the car after we got married–I told him that I didn’t like the idea of riding around in a “purple box”! Still don’t really like purple unless it is the fruit of the vine :-O
Chapstick! I remember as a little girl getting purple chapstick in my stocking every year. That specific scent of purple chapstick stirs up wonderful memories!
I can’t hear the word “purple” without thinking of the old song “Deep Purple” from the 1960’s — April Stevens and Nino Tempo. It was VERY popular then, and to think of the song takes me back to those young and innocent days…
Sigh…
When I think of purple, 2 things come to mind…
First, I think of LSU – purple and gold.
Then, I think of Mardi Gras – purple, green, and gold.
I love the color purple, and I LOVE the color you’ve chosen for this month’s release!
The color purple makes me think of grapes! (which is one of my favorite snacks)
Purple is my favorite color and it makes me think of spring – one of the first signs of spring around here are purple crocuses. 🙂
When I think of purple I feel very happy and I think of my hair. You see, I have purple highlights! I have always loved purple, and I finally decided to always have it with me.
eggplant, violet, lavender, beautiful flowers
Purple reminds me of my Great Aunt Cyrene. She always wears purple.
My first thought of purple reminds me of my grandmother’s lilac bushes. You had to walk past the large, fragrant bushes to get to the back door. They are one of my first memories of going to visit my grandma.
The first thought I have when I think of the color purple is of my wonderful mother! Her favorite color is purple.
Keeping my fingers crossed I might be the lucky winner b/c I really am liking everything I see!!! Hugs.
There was a little store downtown that my mother would take me to, it was filled with beautiful dresses and I remember the weird hardwood floors and playing in the racks (for what it seemed like hours) freaking my mom out trying to figure out where I was. LOL Anyway I remember rows and rows of beautiful fluffy purple dresses. I think it was Polly Flinders. Weird… I haven’t thought about that place for years!
I just saw Fantasia sing on American Idol and she just finished up her Broadway run doing “The Color Purple” so that’s what immediately came to mind. Another great release, Nichole!!
I think of a chunky necklace my late Aunt gave me as a gift years ago. I still have it.
I think purple is my favorite color of all. I saw lilacs, love them! I love purple roses that have that beautiful rose scent. I love the purple in the rainbow. I love purple pansies and violets. Maybe it’s the floral aspect of purple that catches my attention and makes me smile. I thank God for purple.
The very first thing was the book, “Color Purple” but the next thing was African violets. I loved their velvety petals!
When I think of purple…I think of lilacs.
I first think about Lilacs…..they are starting to bloom just outside my living room window. Grew up with a HUGE lilac bush and absolutely love the smell.
I love lilacs and have always associated the color purple with lilacs!
looking forward to getting your new colors, but the first thing that came to my mind was the movie, “The Color Purple”.
Thanks!
My Grandmother Elizabeth , when I was a little girl she was getting dressed to go out, as I sat I watched her apply her make-up and put on that lavender dress…I was in awe, she was so beautiful. I always scrap her in lavenders and purple now.
The color purple entered my life with my first daughter-in-law. It is her fav color and we all wore purple at the wedding. Another son is getting married this Saturday and I am again wearing purple!
The color purple reminds me of both of my grandmothers. My dad’s mom loved purple African violets. I bought her one almost every year for Mother’s Day. My mom’s mom dressed rather drab for most of her life. At some point in her 60s, she must have gone through some sort of change because she loved to wear colors, especially purple. She had a purple suit and she wore it for everything – not because she didn’t have anything else, just because she liked it. For my wedding, she wore a purple dress. This year I bought my mom a flowering plant in shades of purple for Mother’s Day. She loved it, especially the colors. I see the love of purple being passed on for generations.
My first thought was the movie and then the flower iris. I love those flowers and have them planted in several places in my yard. Can’t wait to see the new sets!
Oprah Winfrey – lol
My first thought was violets. My neighbor gave me a beautiful purple african violet after the birth of my second child.
When you put those 3 words together, The Color Purple, I automatically think of the movie! Jackie W.
Immediately I thin of my daughter’s room! When we moved into our house it was brand new but all the finishes were done, paint etc. My daughter was just about to turn 3 and I thought she should have a pretty “big girl” room, not beige. So…I found a great boarder to put at chair rail height with fairies and “frogs with crowns” I had 1 day to pick paint colors and they would paint it before we moved in. I choose lavender and a fresh spring green for below. Well, you don’t always get what you think your are getting on the swatch…the room was gatorade green and purple purple!!! My husband wouldn’t pay to repaint and I had no time to do it myself.
The boarder, curtains and furniture helped tone it down…but I am still waiting fot the opportunity for a “do over”!!
Purple reminds me of Lent. And waiting, and the Easter that always comes.
~Susan
My very first thought when I “think of the color of purple” is the movie staring Whoopi Goldberg. That made me laugh, made me cry and then made me very proud to think that a woman no matter how beaten down she may be can get back up and be or accomplish just about any thing she wants.
I also think of my son whose birthday is in February. The birthstone for that month is Amethyst which can be a very light color of purple or a deep beautiful dark color of purple.
Mary
I think of the driveway of my childhood home lined with deep purple and lavender irises. It makes me think of Easter and dying eggs too, because my sisters and I loved to make purple eggs.
I think of kings and queens and royal robes when I think of the color of purple.
When I first read the question I thought “purple?”, but it is a person that comes to mind straight away. My Nanna always had a purple rinse in her hair and the longest purple (natural) nails. Not a colour I believe I have seen since in a persons hair!
Andrea
grapes!! yum!
Purple makes me think of pansies.
I think of the wonderful book by Alice Walker when I think of “The Color Purple”.
Purple color reminds me of my mother. It’s her favorite color. Her bedroom walls are painted light purple, and her wardrobes are dark purple in color. She even made a purple curtain to match the room!
I always think of my daughter when I see the color purple, because it is her favorite color.
The first thought that comes to mind is a necklace my dh bought for me. It’s very pretty but I didn’t own ANYTHING purple to wear with it, so I HAD to go shopping and find the perfect purple shirt so I could wear my new necklace. SMiles. Can’t wait for tonight.
Misty
My favorite pair of Jelly Shoes were purple! I was about 7 when Jellies were first popular. My daughter now has a pink pair and every grown woman who sees her in those shoes says “I remeber having a pair of Jellies!”
I love the hydrangeas. They were in my wedding 11 years ago and again last Sunday at a mother daughter banquet. (BTW, I’m not posting twice, the first one didn’t take.) :o)
I think of the summer night sky. Just laying underneath the stars with the kids and wishing on the shooting stars.
The color purple reminds me of late summer 1971…..my Mom had ovarian cancer and after a treatment she decided that she wanted to go to a fabric shop across from The Maine Medical Center, in Portland, Maine to purchase fabric to make my school clothes. We got all purple fabric, solids, plaids and prints she made me skirts, pants vests and tunic tops that fall……it was the last articles of clothing that she would be able to make me as she passed on the 27th of December 1971. So the color purple brings back fond memories of that time with my Mother going through the fabric shop deciding what my new fall wardrobe for school would be. The love of my Mom will be with me forever.
Hi! I think if these tiny purple flowers that used to grow where my husband and I used to live. We called them “purpletta’s”.
Funny! Good times! 🙂
My very first room out of the “baby stage” was all in purple w/lilac type flower accents. My mom even made a drape out of the matching sheets to the bedspread, and decorated a clay pot for silk purple flowers.
It’s ironic…when she has her birthday with her Red Hatters (which you then wear purple hats and red dresses)she adds lavendar flowers to her hat and I always tell her she reminds me of my childhood bedroom.
I DO have photos of that room in a scrapbook, however with the RH connection, gotta re-do it!
oh and PICK ME! PICK ME!
The color purple reminds me of my neice, Becky. When she was little, about 3, purple was her favorite color. We would call her the “purple lady” and when she had her birthday that year it was the purple birthday. Everything was purple, even her presents!
The color purple always reminds me of the lilacs that my grandmother grew in her backyard. I could smell their sweet scent as soon as I stepped in her yard.
I have a new baby and we have been listening to a lot of Sesame Street songs together. One of the songs we really like is “Elmo And The Lavender Moon”. Since your purple is called Lavender Moon, it reminds me of listening to that song with my baby boy.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the “Purple People Eater” song. It’s certainly a golden oldie! Purple is my favorite color (and my daughter’s, too!).
The color purple reminds me of when I was about 10 years old and my “bee-utiful” purple bedroom! I begged my parents to paint it purple because it was the favorite color of my very first crush … Donny Osmond!!!
The movie. Although I have never seen it. Then I think of Prince (or whatever he is calling himself these days. Then I think of Lilacs. I was born on Mother’s Day and my Mom’s birthday. My Grandma brought Lilacs to my Mom in the hospital. I think my Mom reminds me of that story every time she comes to my house and sees my Lilac bush in bloom. Thanks for the chance to win.
I think of the movie: The color Purple. Ok well you said the first thing right. LOL I loev that movie. It was a great story and an extraordinary film.
Purple was my favorite color when I was young and it still a favorite of mine. And all of my favorite foods are purple (eggplant, purple yams, grapes…). Love the new colors!
easter actually 🙂
A lovely lilac fragrance my mum used when I was little…
Purple has been my favorite color for years! The first thing I think of is how I wanted a purple travel bag when I was a teenager. And even thought she didn’t like it, my mom surprised me with it at Christmas. Now I have lots of purple in my home, and a little girl who shares my love of purple!
Purple-inked pens! It was my trademark for a long long time.
Oprah, of course!!!!!!!
My pretty lavender bush I am looking at while I look at your blog
When I think of Purple I think of my WHOLE childhood. I shared a room with my sister and she was obsessed with DONNY OSMOND. Of course, since his favorite color was supossedly purple everything in our room had to be purple! Purple walls, purple carpet, purple curtains, purple bedspreads, and walls covered with posters of Donny wearing purple. To this day, whenever I have a choice of colors for something, my mind goes to purple first.
When I think of the color purple. I think of the 80’s. My poofy bangs, braces, and monster glasses. Man I was such a dork(and probably still am). A deep rich purple comes to mind. I must have worn a lot of purple in middle school. I just remember people saying red heads can’t wear pink. So I guess I wore purple instead. No I don’t wear any purple and I say I don’t care to all those people who said red heads can’t wear pink. I think about half my wardrobe is pink and I have maybe one purple shirt. Too Funny! It’s amazing what can bring back memories.
Spring, Easter, My daughter’s favorite color.
When I think of the color purple, I immediately think of the “one that got away”. The shirt, that is. I found this great purple shirt in Express a few years ago that was the perfect shade of purple and it looked great on me. When I came back a few hours later to buy it, it was gone on my size. Life lesson learned – when you find the perfect blouse, BUY IT! 😛
The color purple makes me think of the sky at dusk, just as the sun has gone down and the world seems to settle down after a long, busy day, It’s that time when families come together to share the events of the day and reconnect with each other. I also think that the color purple is a rich and inviting tone that offers itself to many forms of expression. And lastly, it makes me think of a cute story from a friend. A marriage enrichment class suggested that women think in terms of “pink” and men in terms of “blue” But when they see eye to eye on something, they both see in the color “purple”. 🙂
Honestly, the words “the color purple” makes me think of Whoopi Goldburg! LOL Thanks for you chance to win – all of the new stuff looks great!
First thing that comes to mind is Prince–the singer… Now there’s an 80’s flashback for you!!
The first thing I think of when I think of the color purple is Prince (you know, the singer?). His favorite color is purple, and so is mine! Also, purple is the color of royalty, which might explain why it’s my favorite color (everyone’s entitled to think they are a princess!).
Purple has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. My first thought of the color purple is how everyone who sees my house for the first time is surprised that I have two purple rooms, even if they know how much I love purple. My older daughter’s room is a rich medium purple shade, and our family room is a beautiful dusty plum color, with the fireplace painted a darker shade of the same color.
Purple makes me think of my husband’s Auntie Camille because she loves purple and I love her. She is an amazing woman who brings joy to all who meet her. She is always upbeat, smiling, and laughing.
The color purple reminds me of lilacs…love them!!! Moved some from my childhood home in IL to KY over 27 years ago and they still bloom every spring.
The first thought I had was of Johnny Jump Ups. They look like little pansies. They use to grow in my mother’s yard. When my daughter was little, she always said that she wanted to pick the little johnny jumps.
My high school boyfriend had a purple coat that he let me wear at football games… ah… young love… 🙂
My mother! Back in the 70s when I was little my mother had the CRAZIEST bright purple suede pantsuit. Came complete with a fedora hat. It was so stylish (at the time) and she wore it with a floral scarf. It made her feel gorgeous and she always shone when she was wearing it. I think I’ve even got a picture somewhere. Since she passed away this has always been one of my favorite memories!
The sweet smell of lilacs in all shades of purple.
My good friend, Daria, who loves all things purple! She moved a distance away and I miss spending time with her.
The first thing I think is that I shouldn’t wait to get old to wear purple!
This one is easy for me! When I was 8, my mom let me help decorate my bedroom. This was the first time I had a room of my own and I picked – PURPLE! We painted the walls lavender and I got a brand new white canopy bed with a floral bedspread in purple shades. I had this shaggy, furry rug in the shape of a foot (hey, it was the 60s!) and I loved that room! I kept that canopy bed until I got married and it was in our first home until I finally decide it was time to sell it. Thanks for the memory!

The Movie “The Color Purple”
LOL
Diane
LOL This is great! When I was little I was obsessed with the color purple – I wanted everything purple: my curtains, my bedspread, my carpet.. the walls anything that could be purple I wanted … I liked grape flavor things JUST because they were purple… so the first time I went to my great aunts house after she redid her bedroom… I didn’t want to go out with the family in the rest of the house…. her bedroom was PURPLE! She had this deep purple carpet and bedspread to match.. and I remember her curtains they were dark purple velvet!!! I thought I was in absolute heaven!! I’ve since grown out of my obsession with purple (although I still have a bit of a preference for it!) But every time I see purple (esp)dark purple… I can almost feel those velvety purple curtains at my aunts house!
My favorite color is purple and as a girl also loved unicorns! When I was about 10 or so my parents bought a new home and I got to pick out decor for my room. I picked cream bedding with lavendar flowers and my mom stenciled a border of lavendar unicorns near the ceiling around my room. I also think of one of my favorite flowers – lilacs!
The color purple reminds me of many things, but mostly I’d have to say that the first thing that comes to my mind when I see something purple is my daughter – it’s her favorite color.
Purple is a relatively memory-free color for me… The only thing that really jumped to my mind was royalty!
I think of coloring Easter eggs!!
The first thing I think of when I think of the color purple is Barney. Sad, but true, I imagine the big bouncing dinosaur dancing around and singing 🙂
When I was 8, I got to pick whatever color I wanted to paint my bedroom. I chose a bright lavender color, and a bedspread with purple cats all over it. I loved it! Until I had to live with it until I was 14. 🙂
Purple brings to mind the pretty little pansies that come up in the early spring and tell you that winter is almost over. I love winter, but eventually I’m ready to move on to spring and even summer. Purples and lavenders are so soft an inviting, just friendly colors to my way of thinking.
The color purple makes me think of my daughter, who loves the color purple!
When I think of purple the first thing that comes to mind is flowers – specifically purple pansies. Love to see them planted all over her in Virginia in late winter and early spring.
I think of my sister Kristy…everythig HAD to be purple, I mean everything…now that we are both older, life has changed and she is not a lover of ALL things purple like she was about 15+ years ago, but any mention of the color purple makes me think of her and her love affair with that color way back when…hmmm typing 15+ years ago really makes me feel old…and really I’m only 29 and Kristy is 26….what fond memories:-)
The first thought I had was of Johnny Jump Ups. They look like little pansies. They use to grow in my mother’s yard. When my daughter was little, she always said that she wanted to pick the little johnny jumps.
Purple always reminds me of royalty. 🙂
African Violets…I gave them to my mom every year for Mother’s Day for as long as I can remember.
My first thought is Easter…light purple just reminds me of all my Easter dresses growing up.
I think of my mom, it’s her favorite color. Her wedding colors we’re shades of purple, it’s her birthstone, the iris is her favorite flower. Anytime I see purple I think of my mom…we live several states away from each other and I enjoy having reminders of her in that color.
Whenever I think of purple I think of my Mother’s huge flower bed of iris she had when I was growing up. When they were all in bloom it was magnificent!
I think og my Great Grandmother. She had a feild of lavender behind her house. I loved spending time out there. She moved from that house when I was around 12 or so, and of all the things I missed was the scent of lavender. Now every time I smell it, my thoughts instanly go to my Granny, she was such and inspiration !!!!
When I think of the color purple I think of lilacs and the wonderful fragrance they have.
My favorite color is purple, so I can think back to the purple McDonalds Grimace, who I loved because of his color! I also think of purple lilacs and flowers of all kinds. My friend also has a beautiful set of purple jewelry that I always think of. Thanks for making me think of Grimace, I haven’t thought of him for years!
On a trip to California, we visited a lavender farm. I still remember the field of purple. It was a beautiful sight to see! I love lavender!
I am sure this is not what you were looking for, but here it is — the movie. Specifically Oprah Winfrey in her role in the movie. The actual color is among my favorites, but the movie came to mind first!
I think of my best friend Diana, who at age 50 wears purple everything nearly every day. She wears an amethyst ring on every finger and teaches clog dancing. She has been a social worker for the welfare department for nearly 20+ and has maintained her sanity while helping others. When I think of the color purple, I think of her courage to be who she wants to be no matter what anyone thinks.
It’s sad, but purple makes me think of my children’s favorite purple dinosaur — Barney! Actually, my oldest two would never admit that they ever loved him, but my youngest, who’s three, still does. So it’s been nine long years of purple Barney in my house! lol!
Besides purple being my favorite color, purple reminds me of the candy Easter eggs that are pure sugar and coated with a smooth pastel color and my favorite was purple! Those things taste terrible to me now.
Reminds me of springtime!
When I think of the color purple, I think of my Mom, because it is her favorite color!
When I think of Purple–the first thing that popped into my mind was a “favorite” poem of mine…….
“When I am an Old Woman–I Shall Wear Purple”!!!
I’m thinking, though’ that instead of brandy”–“I shall spend my pension on PTI stamps and stuff”–oh how fun “that” will be!!! 😉
CraftyKJ aka KJ aka Kathy Johnson
My Junior Prom dress…I loved that one, it was so pretty and I look wonderful in it. One great night with a great dress!
It reminds me of when my mom bought me my first pair of jelly shoes when I was 8!! I just loved those shoes and the color was a lot like the new color being introduced this month!!!
The movie “The Color Purple” comes to mind.
Purple (lavender to be exact) was my wedding color for my bridesmaid dresses. Naturally it brings back fond memories!
When I think of purple I think of my best friend from elementary school. She loved purple, had a purple quilt, purple carpet, purple stars on her ceiling! Can’t wait to see all the new stuff!
I think of one of my 6 yrs old twin daughters, Victoria. Since they were about 4 years old, they each picked a color as their favorite and she picked purple. I think it was a way for them to establish their individuality. For her, everything has to be purple!!
The color of my bedroom during my pre-teen years. The innocence of tiger beat magazines, my walls covered with posters of Donny Osmond and David Cassidy. The unforgettable smell of spring lilacs that grew outside my window, they are still my favorite flower.
Thank you for the chance to win and for good memories.
I always remember the big beds of purple Irises that surrounded the patio in the house I grew up in. My Mom alwyas cut them and had them fresh in our house. I still love purple irises to this day!
I IMMEDIATELY think of my mom. She LOVES the color purple! Just about everything she owns is purple, from her clothes, to jewelry, shoes, pens, purse, hair accessories – she even has a purple bedroom and car! I can’t wait to get the new purple cardstock, ribbons and ink!
The first thing that comes to mind is my childhood since purple was my favorite color, and all the purple crayons, paints and markers I collected!
smell of lavender and pretty girls.
Purple reminds me of my Mother. That’s her favorite color!
When we were younger we would always get her PURPLE flowers for her B-day/Mothers day since she just LOVED Purple so much!
~Monica~
The memory that comes to mind is the fragrant smell of lilacs. We used to go in an alley by our house to pick them when I was growing up. We would give the lilacs to my mom since they were her favorite flower.
First thing to come to mind is Grape Jelly!! Loved it with peanut butter as a kid 🙂
mountains on a cloudy rainy day…
When I think of the color purple, I think of all the wonderful years I have had since kindergarden with my now 12 year old son. Purple was one of the school colors when he was in elementary school, and now that he is in middle school, and participating in team sports, he is VERY proud to continue to wear the color purple. Although we are true UT fans from the state of TN, and dearly love our BIG ORANGE, we have quickly become a HUGE fan of the color PURPLE!
Purple makes me think of my mother-in-law…it is her FAVORITE color and if she can own it in purple, she buys it! and thankfully I really like my MIL so it’s a good connection. :0)
The book “The Color of Purple”. My daughter gave me the paperback when it first came out and I still have the book. She was a teenager when she gave it to me and whenever I hear the word “purple” I think of this book. Very dear to me.
When I think of purple – lavender in particular – I think of my niece, Madison. My sister did not want a tradition pink baby room, so she chose lavender. We bought lavender bedding, lavender curtains, lavender stuffed animals and lavender clothes. It was such a calming, gentle color that I think I might even do it for my little girl if I ever have one! Little Madison’s nursery is still one of the most beautiful nurseries that I have ever seen! And, I just found out that I have another little niece on the way – more lavender will be in my future! 😀
I think of the book I purchased for my sweet grandmother Emma “When I am old I shall wear purple.” Purple was her favorite color. I miss her so much. Thanks for the chance to win. If I do win, I’d probably faint but it would be so awesome.
Prince and his album/movie Purple Rain! 🙂
I think of my friend Sherry…..her favorite color is purple.
When I think of purple the first thought that comes to mind is Christmas. More specifically a wreath I handmade that is flocked white and adorned with eggplant and burgundy flowers highlighted with a few silver mini ornaments and silver curly-cues. When I look at it (I keep it up year round) it always makes me smile.
The color purple always makes me think of long summer evenings, when the sky turns pink and yellow, then red and orange and finally midnight blue and purple. And after 100 shades of aubergine have meandered across the sky, it’s finally dark.
when I think about the color purple- I think about my wedding! The colors were purple and silver because they are majestic. The theme of my wedding was Happily Ever After. It was AMAZING!!! My mom planned it all. She had a trumpet quartet do a fanfair befor I walked done the grand staircase. She had suits of armor and a beautiful bridge and castle at the reception!!! I LOVE purple!
The most beautiful colors you will ever see are explained in the song “America the Beautiful”. When traveling throughout our great country, the USA, as you cross through mountain ranges and come around a big curve and all you can see is the “purple mountain majesties”. All different hues of purples and lavendar in all types of wildflowers and nature. Even the rock is purple. This is what I think of when the color purple is mentioned. The beautiful purple colors of nature that stay so vivid in your mind that you constantly try to reproduce them in your art.
My Mother had a green thumb, and grew beautiful African Violets. She’s been gone 40 years, but I can still picture those flowers when I think of her.
The first thing I thought of was The Color Purple. Before I even knew what the movie was about I had to watch it just because it had purple in the title. My favorite color has always been purple.
Purple is my husband’s favorite color, so it makes me think of him and the color of our wedding flowers. Can’t wait to see the releases!
“when I am old, I shall wear purple” comes to mind first, followed by grapes. The word lavendar brings to mind an entirely different picture!
The new jammies I just got for summer!
I thought of lilacs when I first saw the new color for this month. I absolutley adore the smell of fresh lilacs in the spring. So Yummy!
My first thought actually is the movie: The Color Purple!
my daughter, Amy, comes first to my mind…her favorite color is purple.
Our bedroom…when we moved into the Historic Hillcrest area of Little Rock, I convinced my husband that now we were out of the suburbs and need to paint our walls something other than some variance of white. The homes here all have character and unique features. Color really adds to the look. My husband agreed to try color out first in our bedroom, which we painted before we moved in. It’s a lovely lavender, and even he loves it. It’s a calm, peaceful retreat. That led to colors in all the other rooms as well!!!
Lilacs, lilacs, they are all blooming here right now, my favorite flower…
Purple reminds me of my high school colors… purple and white, Go Pioneers!
The color purple reminds me of my room growing up. My mom painted my whole room light purple with dark purple hearts for a border. All the work she put into made me love it even more!
My first thought is the group of women at Panera’s wearing red hats and purple and red outfits. They were having a delightful time chatting over lunch. I am old enough to join now. But I don’t know if I’m willing to wear a red hat and purple outfit. Maybe it helps to have your friends all show up in the same colors. I wonder if anyone has made a card to match?
I think of the lilacs that are blooming right outside my front door!
When I think of purple – I think of Thistles. This is the time of year they bloom here in Central Texas. I have always been fascinated with them and when I was little I would pick them for my mother. She still loves those Thistle bouquets to this day!
I meant “The Color Purple”. Sorry for the mistake (I worked all day and my brain is fried!)
Purple reminds me of the really bright and so wonderful afghan my grandmother crocheted for me when I was little. She gave it to me for Christmas when I was 6. I was so surprized and LOVED it. I still have it and my children use it.
My favorite color is purple, so I have many thoughts about it and I honestly think of purple every day as it is incorporated in my life all the time. But when I read the question I thought of my bedroom when I was in high school. I painted the walls, myself, a really dark purple and the trim black! It looked really dark and gloomy, but I loved it!
I first think of my cousin, Susan. Purple has always been her favorite color, from the time she was a very small child. It remains her favorite color to this day. She recently turned 50 and I made sure that the card I made for her was purple.
As a kid, one my favorite drinks was the color purple…grape soda. We didn’t get to have soda very often…so oh what a treat when we did! Usually it only happened in the summer when we had people over for a picnic. Those were the days!
I think of the movie with Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah! Also of how the color purple represents royalty.
When I think of purple, I see it with the deep yellow of an iris. In Newfoundland, Canada, where I’m from, they grow wild. That bit of colour in the bog or marsh always gave me a smile. I also laughed the first time I saw an iris for sale in a garden shop.:}
Thanks for sharing
The color purple reminds me of the joy of sitting in my daughter’s room when she was an infant just rocking her and feeding her, etc. as her room is a lovely shade of lavender. I love just sitting in her room watching her while she plays now – she’s almost 2!
I can remember watching the “Donnie and Marie” (Osmond) show as a girl and loooving it! There was a song something about “deep purple dreams”. I thought Donny was sooo dreamy! hehe! Kym
Purple…the room my Mom decorated for me when I was a little girl. The drapes, quilt, and the flowers in the wallpaper were all a shade of purple. It brings back good memories…Thanks for the chance to win!
I think of my 4-year old daughter. Her favorite color is purple purple purple.
My first thought of purple is of pretty flowers that my mom had in her garden when I was a little girl. She had these huge Iris’s and would pick bouquets to put in the house.
The 1st thought that comes to mind when the color purple is mentioned is my mom. It’s always been her favorite color.
The color purple brings to mind memories of my grandmother and my wedding. Due to my grandmothers health she was unable to travel to NC from MN but she was with me in spirit and I carried a simple bouquet of scottish heather…. I was surrounded by her love and thoughts (as you may guess she was Scottish)
my favorite lavender candle on my desk that i smell everyday, but never burn.
A very dear friend of mine who was like a second mother to me, my mother-in-law and my best friend. It is their favorite color. I do not wear purple (I have read hair and fair skin), but I make lots of purple stuff for them. So I get my ‘purple’ fix.
When I was in grammar school my favorite colors were lavender and purple. Much to my delight, my parents painted three walls lavender and one wall purple in my bedroom. I was in heaven as only a little girl could be…
Purple brings to mind my mom’s iris garden. Such beautiful shades of purple. When I moved out to the country and got married, she gave me a couple dozen bulbs, and they have spread and are one of the favorites in my flower garden. I love flowers…. I collect all different kinds, just like stamps…..
I think of my elementary school. Our school colors were purple and white. I occasionally drive by and expect to see the massive building a vivid purple, but the years have dulled the colors. I can still see the building of my youth in my mind.
When I think of purple pansies – the flower type come to mind. I enjoyed planting them when I was a child.
Irises, flowers, and Spring…
Thanks for all the great work & ideas.
Irises! I have an old farm house, approximately 120 years old, and it is surrounded with purple irises. This is my favorite flower and my favorite color. Right now, the irises are in full bloom and this is the time of the year I think my house looks its best! I have been waiting on Papertrey to do purple with all the matchy matchy. I have all the other papers and inks and ribbons, so you know I want this one! Woo hoo!
I think of beautiful wisteria in the spring, hanging in gorgeous clusters.
The first thing that comes to mind is when we were expecting our 2nd daughter I wanted her to have her “own” color. My older daughters color was pink. Lavender Moon is very similar to the color of my 2nd daughters room.
The color purple reminds me of lilacs. Our bushes are about to bloom.
The color purple evokes such wonderful memories for me. From childhood, it would be all the beautiful Lilacs in my mothers garden. From adulthood, it would be the color of the first gemstone that my husband ever purchased for me (Tanzanite).
Thanks for the chance to win Nicole!
Linda
Purple reminds me of eggplants. Kind of lame, huh?
The Color Purple – movie. Great stamps =)
It takes me back to age 7 when I got a purple sweater and matching purple cords. But the icing on the cake was my purple dual cassette portable stereo! I thought that was the most awesome thing!!
Purple is my daughter’s favorite color so when I think of purple I think of her smile.
When I think of purple the first thing that comes to mind is my daughter, Leila. She looks excellent in lilac, and all other shades of purple. She has dark blue eyes, they are so dark, people ask me if they are purple all the time.
Rieca
The first thing that comes to mind is my friend Laquita. She LOVES the color purple. I have never seen anyone so passionate about a color. So, every time I make a card for her I try to incoporate purple into it.
Who remembers Grape Nehi soda??? Used to get it as a child from the soda machines that dispensed actual glass bottles. Turned your mouth purple. Yummmmm!
The first thing that comes to mind is the movie “the color purple”. This is my favorite movie!
Oprah!
What a fun question. The first thought I had was of Beate John’s of her Fresh & Fun blog and how much she dislikes the colour. Very funny. I have to say that I really like your new purple, Lavendar Moon. What a lovely colour. It looks like spring – lilacs, crocuses, hyacinths….
The colour purple makes me think about lavender and all its calming influences. I love being surrounded by the lavender scent. Surprisingly, I use the colour purple very sparingly but would love the opportunity to do more with this colour. Thanks for the chance to win.
Lilacs! Mine are just starting to bloom, too!
The color purple reminds me of my school – grades 1 thru 12 – our school colors are purple and white, and by the time I graduated, I was pretty tired of purple, so it didn’t appear in my wardrobe for a number of years after graduation. I still have a hard time using very much purple in my cardmaking and scrapbooking – kind of a color block!
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of purple is hyacinths. They’re my favorite spring flower!
My daughter! It’s her favorite color and the color of her cheerleading team! It also reminds me of my best friend, who also loves purple!!
When I think of the color purple I think of my Mom because it’s her favorite color. She absolutely loves it which is probably why it’s also my favorite color. I am loving the new color this month and can’t wait to try it out for myself!
Heaven knows why, but the first thing I thought of when I read your question tonight was a dark purple pant suit I made (and actually wore) when I was in high school! It had a long vest and I wore a long sleeve white blouse that had ruffles around the collar and cuffs. Funny thing is, I got lots of complements on it, even tho I looked like one of the 3 Muskateers in it! Fortunately, I’ve had lots of other good experiences with purple and consider it an awesome color!
Best Wishes and Blessings on your newest release!
I can’t help but remember what I thought was the most awful bridesmaid dress ever!! I think my sister just wanted to make me wear something that I would hate as much as she hated the bridesmaid dress that she wore in my wedding!! Nevertheless, your shade of purple is the best……nothing like the purple my sister chose for her wedding!

My first thought is of eating grape popsicles and drinking grape soda outside on sunny summer days over at the neighbors pool! I always ended up with sticky purple hands and grape soda stains on my cover up… What fun! I can’t wait for summer days!
When I see or think of the color purple I think of lilacs, pansy’s and deep purple hydrangeas. All the purple flowers.
Makes me think of when I was 5 years old. My older siblings chose their favorite colors. The said I could not choose a color that they’ve already chosen. The only nice colors left for me to choose from were green, purple, brown, black, and white. I chose purple. =)
Actually, purple has never been a favorite color of mine, until I saw “Lavender Moon”. Now it is a must have. It’s such a soft, romantic color. Thank you.
Honestly, Prince…Purple Rain! I am such a dork!Yeah, that’s me!
the color purple makes me think of Barney! also Lilacs. our very first home had huge, gorgeous lilac bushes and I just loved it when they were in bloom!
The memory that comes to mind was my grade school colors, purple and white. We were the Purple Panthers and I loved being a cheerleader and getting to wear purple. I love all shades of purple and really like your Lavendar Moon color.
My grandbaby is in love with Dora. So I automatically think of her and start singing, “Do-Do-Dora Do-Da-Dora…come on…let’s go…jump in!”
My favorite color has always been purple. When I was little and my mom wanted to paint my room, I told her purple with purple curtains. Nope… got a pink room with pink curtains – I really don’t like pink. Eventually, years later – I got my purple curtains.
Purple makes me think of the month of April when flowers starts to bloom!
I think of lilacs in every shade of lavendar and purple. Just the thought of these beautiful blossoms warms my soul. They are truly one of nature’s greatest gifts!
Hmmmm. That is a tough one but the first thing I thought about was little purple flowers. It reminds me of my carefree childhood days playing outside all day on our little farm and running through the fields.

That happens to be my youngest daughters favorite color, so of course I think of her. It used to be my favorite color when I was her age. I could also say that it reminds me of the COLORADO ROCKIES!!!!
My rival high school in the town I grew up in. Southside’s colors are red and white and Central’s colors are purple and cream. It reminds me of all the basketball games I set through before, during and after high school. My brother in law has my daughter’s cheering for Central now and wearing purple (much to my dad’s dismay!).
WOW!!! Already over 600 comments. I hope it is me that wins this one 😀
My memory of purple…Actually everytime I think of purple it reminds me of my first “official” school dance. I was a sophmore in High School and I went with a very kind friend and crush and I wore a purple velvet dress that my mother made for me.
My wedding! Our colors were shades of purple. The bridesmaid dresses were very close to Lavender Moon I think. My favorite color is blue, and I did not use it on purpose because I thought I would be sick of looking at whatever color I chose after months of planning and projects.
The lilac bush behind my house growing up reminds me of the color purple!
The thought that comes to mind is … MY FAVORITE COLOR!! My wedding was this purple, I love all things purple AND all shades.
I smell a beautiful field of lilacs!! Well…maybe my mom’s VERY purple bathroom comes to mind!
The most beautiful colors you will ever see are explained in the song “America the Beautiful”. When traveling through our great country, the USA, as you cross through mountain ranges and come around a big curve and all you can see is the “purple mountain majesties”. All different hues of purples and lavendar in all types of wildflowers and nature. Even the rock is purple. That is what I think of when the color purple is mentioned. The beautiful purple colors of nature that stay so vivid in your mind that you constantly try to reproduce them in your art.
My cousin LOVED purple (and mice) when she was younger. Everything she owned seemed to be some shade of purple. She’s always the 1st thing to come to mind when I think about purple.
I automatically think of my beautiful daughter who is turning one tomorrow. Purple is the absolute best color on her so I am constantly buying purple for her to wear and to use in my scrapbooking for her. smiles…
When I think of purple, I think of my daughter Grace. She used to love purple. Everything had to be purple. She even had purple glasses for 5 years.
My first thought is the song America the Beautiful and the purple mountain majesties.
The color itself doesn’t bring a memory to mind immediately but the actual question you posed does. It takes me back to being young and watching the movie, “The Color Purple, on TV with my mom. I loved the story line and the acting. I remember being surprised that Oprah Winfrey was a decent actress. Why don’t they make TV movies like that anymore?

purple is passion; purple is pretty and it goes well with pink; it is my friend Diana’s most favorite color..
The color purple reminds me of a very special Easter dress hand sewn by my mom when I was 4 or 5. We didn’t get many new clothes and most were hand made by mom in those days. She spent a lot of long nights getting those dresses done for my sisters and I for that special day. And the best part was the matching hat, with its purple satin ribbon trim, and the little white gloves.
The color purple makes me think happiness. It is my very favorite color. It surrounds me in my bedroom and craftroom. To me it is serenity and happiness all at once.
Purple has always been my favorite color!! I love all shades of purple, but especially love the shade you have decided to showcase this month! Beautiful! I can think of so many things I can do with this color!!
I think of royalty.
Grape Kool-aid that we would drink during the summer under the oak tree in the front yard
When I think of purple, I think of my best friend through high school and college. It’s been her favorite color for as long as I can remember. I have wonderful memories of wearing a purple bridesmaid dress as her maid of honor…
Purple reminds me of my godmother, Clare. It is her favorite color. When I was around 7, I was visiting her and she had just finished painting her bedroom purple. And the carpet was green. I thought it looked awful and asked why she would put purple and green together. She just showed me a lovely purple flower with a green stem and said “It works in nature.” I had to agree and it has been one of my favorite color combos since.
Fifth Grade! I was so crazy over purple, I had the greatest purple sweater with red, green, and blue hearts scattered over it, and then purple pants to coordinate, I even had my school photo taken in that outfit! I was so proud!!
Gotta say it…Donny Osmond! I’m dating myself, aren’t I?!
purple is passion; purple is pretty and it goes well with pink; it is my friend Diana’s most favorite color..
Mention of the color purple first brings to mind one of my favorite books from my childhood – “Harold and the Purple Crayon”. Maybe that is why reason why I enjoy stamping, drawing and creating so much!
Been looking forward to your new releases Nichole – now the 10th – 15th are now my favorite days every month! 🙂

When I think of the color purple it reminds me of an Easter when I was about 6 and my Mom, my sister and I all wore dresses that were lavender. The dresses were all different, mine a sheer floral print, my sisters was solid and my mom a combination of both. The three of us posed beneath a beautiful purple Wisteria for our Easter picture that year.
The first thought that comes to my mind is my Mom. She loves purple, and it has become my youngest son’s favorite color because he adores this Grandma.
It also reminds me of summertime, I guess because I think of lavender and that’s when purple feels like a fresh color to me.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of purple is Welch’s grape juice. I’d love to say Lilacs, b/c they’re my fave flowers, but there is something about the grape juice that ties it into a memory of my Dad and I. My dad LOVES grape juice w/ ice and as a kid we used to drink it together often. Only thing was, I was always supposed to have a glass of milk at dinner and remember wondering why I couldn’t drink it at dinner like he did…ha ha ha. I remember one of the first times I ate dinner at my parent’s house as an adult and poured us two glasses of Welch’s grape juice w/ crushed ice. I thought I was SO cool being adult enough to not have to drink milk at the dinner table LOL..ah, the things we remember!
When I think of the color purple I think about my wedding, 9 years ago. I love the color purple so I wanted as much as possible to be purple, the bridesmaid dresses, flowers, decorations, etc.
I love the color purple and now so does my four year old daughter.
My daughter’s favorite color! You would open her closet and see a sea of every shade of purple!
I think of Lilacs which is my favorite flower… I can’t wait to get the new paper
purple always reminds me of my mom since it is her favourite colour.
Definitely lilacs for me, too. We had a ginormous lilac bush out in our backyard when I was a girl, and although it was a major bee magnet LOL, I still loved it. I can still smell it to this day whenever I think about it. 🙂
That, and my lavender gingham bedroom growing up. 🙂 When I finally got my own bedroom, my mom made me matching bedspread/bedskirt/shams/lampshade for me. I *loved* my bedroom! Not having to share it with my two younger sisters helped, I suppose, but I digress. LOL 😉
As I live in Chicago, it conjures up images of Northwestern Football!
Ok, as crazy as it sounds the first image that comes to mind when I hear purple is eggplant. I love eggplant anything and I even grow these beautiful marbled purple and white ones in my tiny garden. 🙂
First thought was the movie “The Color Purple.” But purple always reminds me of Advent as that’s the color of our linens and the candles in our Advent Wreath.
I think of the quilt my friend made my daughter when she was born. It is made of a deep purple corduroy. 🙂
My youngest son comes to mind. He {hearts} anything and everything that is purple. He desparately wants a purple bowling ball… even if it means getting a Laker’s bowling ball, much to my husband’s chagrin! lol!
As I live in Chicago, it conjures up images of Northwestern Football!
Recently when I think of purple, my Stickles come to mind. I’ve become obsessed with them and I just want to put them on everything!
My sister’s mother in law…she loves the color purple…she even has a purple Christmas tree!
Purple reminds me of my first Prom dress. I decided I hated it two days before the big day and then bought a very simple key lime dress. I was the plainest girl at prom. But happy as a lark. 🙂
I used to wear the color purple from head to toe, even my leg warmers were purple. (obviously, I am dating myself). I love the color purple, but I now own no piece of clothing in that color, I think I went way too over board when I was younger. However, it’s the first color I lean toward when it comes to home accessories. I still love it.
I think of Lilacs which is my favorite flower… I can’t wait to get the new paper
IT reminds me of the purple heart medal given for exemplory service to some of the greatest fighters in the world …members of the United States Armed Forces.

I really hate to admit to this but the color purple reminds me of Barney, the purple dinosaur When my now eleven year old was a toddler, that show was by far his favorite. For christmas when he was about 2 1/2 his nana had bought him a big stuffed Barney. She hadn’t wrapped it but tucked it behind all the presents. Well, Barney was the first thing he zeroed in on. He climbed up and over all the gifts to get to it. The look of sheer joy on his face is something I will never forget.
I think about the beautiful Iris’s in my garden. They are some of my first blooms, and they are my favorite!
I know, I know, it’s odd, but my first memory is the song/movie Purple Rain by Prince. My spring blooming lilacs are a close runner up.
Oh, this memory popped into my mind immediately when I thought of purple.
When I was a kid, my brother and sister and I had a babysitter who was an elderly lady. She became our “grandma”. She made every visit to her little, upstairs apartment a celebration of us kids. She was never married or had children of her own, so she poured her whole heart into us. To her, we were the most wonderful kids in all the earth. We KNEW she loved us. She celebrated every one of our birthdays with balloons, cake, a birthday crown, banners, presents..you name it, she went full tilt. Well, every year for my birthday, when I arrived at her apt. she would bring me into her kitchen and show me the african violet that “bloomed right on my birthday.” Every year, that violet bloomed right on my birthday and it was the most beautiful shade of purple. So purple to me is more than a color, it is deep, warm memory of someone who loved me so much and made me feel like I was the most precious child in all the world. Purple is “priceless”.
I think of the wonderful book that celebrates life and living, “When I am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple.”
Purple lilacs in the spring!
My first thought when I hear color purple is the movie and play by that name. It also reminds me of royalty.
The movie The Color Purple, Thrills chewing gum , Purple People Eaters.
i think of Barney! what can i say, i have little ones.
my sister was married when i was 8 years old…i was one of the bridal party and wore a beautiful lavender dress. i have heard many horror stories about me that day…they did my hair and then i went out and rode my bike…i refused to put my shoes on before the ceremony, and i threw a fit when my sister left for her honeymoon…she was going to disneyworld without me!
that is my first memory of purple.
Spirituality. Purple is the color for spirit, and just so beautiful!
The color purple makes me think of a gift my dad gave my mom for her birthday. They’ve been married over 40 years, and one of my mom’s complaints has been historically that my dad either forgets her birthday, or doesn’t really get her anything (or if so, “wastes money” on so-so flowers). Anyway, one birthday he surprised her with a beautiful purple-pink orchid plant that he got at a great nursery. She was so surprised and really enjoyed them. The plant is still alive and flowers today.
The color purple reminds me of all the beautiful spring flowers. The tiny violets in the woods, the many colors in the faces of cheerful pansys, sweet smelling hyacinths at Easter, and lilacs blowing in the gentle breeze
My very best and dear friend Erika comes to my mind every time I see the color or hear the word purple! When we were in college together, she did everything in purple. You could say it is her signature color. She painted her filing cabinets purple, died part of her naturally curly hair purple, and even painted her skin purple a time or two. I always associated Erika with anything purple, and it brings such a warm smile to my face to remember her and the fun times we shared! I miss her so much; I think I am going to go call her right now!
I think of my friend Susan who LOVES the color purple. We’ve been friends for many many years and she is one special gal. Through thick and thin…we are just true blue (should I have said purple?) friends.
too funny- I know EXACTLY what memory this evokes!
As a young teen I ADORED purple and begged and begged my parents to let me paint it purple. Please!! They finally gave in….but alas it was not to be…….well not in my eyes. The paint was like white with a few drops of purple mixed it. I don’t think I have ever been more diappointed in my life! I never forgot, and remind them now & again, even tho it is 30+ yrs later!! LOL
I r-e-a-l-l-y wanted it to be the color in my Peter Max vinyl pillow. OMG I am old! hahahhahaha!
I had a purple corduroy dress for first grade.
My favorite!
A precious memory from 1961!
Thanks for asking!
I am reminded of purple jelly beans and Easter. My brother and I would spend hours sorting out all of our candy and he would never want to keep the pink or purple jelly beans! Thanks for the opportunity!
liz taylor’s eyes! oops! I am dating myself!
When I was a little girl we went to the mountains. I slipped on a rock and got a HUGE bruise on my bottom! I think of this everytime I see a deep purple color. OUCH!
Probably those footed sleeper pajamas we used to wear as kids to keep us warm in the winter. I remember having a lavender/purple pair!
My first memory of purple is my bedroom as a child. When I was 8 or 9 my family moved to a new house and my parents actually allowed me to choose the color of my room. I still remember how excited I was. Of course I chose purple; something now akin to Barney the Dinosaur purple (Barney wasn’t even thought of at that point in time). I loved it. Mom didn’t understand. But I loved it.
The color purple reminds me of the beautiful lilac bush outside our home when I was growing up.
I think of spring and my girls old room which was lavendar and light yellow. So cute!
When I think of the color purple, the first thought that comes to my mind is the image of a purple cloth draped over a cross during the days preceding Easter.
Royalty, and the lilacs blooming in my backyard!!

Purple reminds me of Easter mostly BUT I would be remiss if I didn’t mentioned my BFF and college roommate, Valeria, who was a purple fanatic (and still is many, and I’m not saying how many, years later.)
I think of The Purple Cow restaurant. They have the best milkshakes in the world!
I had a teacher in grade school that was obsessed with the color purple. She used a purple pen for grading papers, always wore purple, and decorated the classroom in purple. We all thought she was a little nuts. Now, I guess if I’d dealt with children so many years, I’d be a little nuts, too.
Colleen
When I think of the color purple the first memory comes to mind is my daughters first Easter dress! She is our first and only daughter and I had so much fun shopping for her easter dress. It was a sleeveless sear sucker dress with a beautiful solid color purple sweater to it. She look so adorable! Thanks for the memory reminder and the oppurtunity to win 🙂
The beautiful irises that are growing in my flower garden. They are tall, yet strong, both in color and in stature. Purple is one of my favorite colors.
My piano student. She loves purple–purple clothes, pens, etc. I always try to use a purple pen for her assignments each week. 🙂
The first thought that came to my mind was the row of lilac bushes that lined the side of our driveway in my childhood home. I remember playing house and hide & seek with my sister and cousins…I’ve always loved the scent of lilac bushes because of the fun memories associated with it! :o)

p.s. I love your blog – you make such beautiful cards and products! Thanks for the inspiration!
My favorite color – and my dad’s least favorite. He once asked for a flashlight – ANY color except black. I actually found a PURPLE MagLight. 🙂 LOL!! He never misplaced that flashlight (he was a low-voltage electrician after he retired)! It’s a wonderful memory. Thanks for asking ….. I love to remember that.
When I think of purple, it’s actually lavendar. I had a lavendar and white seersucker(sp)dress for summer. It was my favorite. I still have a picture of me in it. I’m 52 now (ugh) and I was 7 in the picture so it’s a black and white picture, but, we all know what dress I have on.
Purple was my favorite color from 11 to 15 years old, LOL, oh so many years ago.
Purple is also one of my favorites flowers.
Thanks for the chance to win!!!!
God bless
Giovana
I think of a grape nehi soft drink…don’t ask me why, but that was the first thing that came to mind.
I think of my friends Susan, Steve and Gretchen. Purple is their power color! (Susan’s is really lavendar, but close enough… I still thought of her first!
The color purple means grape bubble gum that makes giant bubbles to me! Makes me think about being a kid again!
When I was in high school I had a pink dress with a purple zipper down the front and purple inside the bell shaped sleeves. I was late for PE class and was running across the gym floor, fell and slide a long way! That is what popped in my mind when I read what thought comes in my mind when I think of purple!
Spring, lilacs, happiness….. I love the soft purple, so happy to see it as your new color!! ~ Donna 🙂
the first thought that comes to mind is my dad buying my purple socks because he thought it was my favorite color–it was very sweet!
I think about my room when I was about 10. I was allowed to pick the color and I choose a horrid awful bright purple!! (which I loved). Now I think about my daughter’s room which is also purple (well lavender, but a beautiful very girly color)but nothing like my room color. Can’t wait to get my hands on the lavender moon!
I was in a parade in high school and wore a long purple dress that my mother made. The theme of the parade was songs; my song was “Deep Purple”.
The color purple reminds me of a purple dress that I made in Home Ec when I was in high school. I found this beautiful purple crepe material that was so luxurious and I loved that dress.
When I think of purple, I think I am old enough now to wear it.
When I think of purple, I think I am old enough now to wear it.
My 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teacher! She loved the color purple and she loved to sing the “Purple People Eater” song to us! What a great memory — thanks for prompting me to remember it!!!!!!
Purple pansys also come to mind. The pansy if one of my favorite flowers!!!
Whoopie Goldberg, I relate her to the movie “The colour purple” rather than her wearing the colour. Purple also reminds me of my friend Mandy who loved purple even before it came back as a fasionable colour.
grape popsicles of course… being 8 years old, the only girl in the neighborhood and eating my favorite grape popsicle on the front of my nana’s stairs!
my mom making me eat eggplant! not my favorite as a child.
Ok, my first thought . . . Donny Osmond LOL! I loved watching the Donny & Marie show and he was obsessed with purple socks — the memories that stick with ya!!
Purple pansys also come to mind. The pansy if one of my favorite flowers!!!

My wedding and my bridesmaids dresses…oh how I loved the colors on the young ladies…soft lavender…beautiful…delicate…
oh gosh purple – oprah and my friend cherie at work she absolutely loves purple – everything purple all the way to her car! although she sold her purple car but remnants of it are still etched in my memory and she even uses purple pen at work.
I think of our grape vines, and the yummy grapes we picked off of them last summer!
I think of my new niece who was just born 3 months ago! The reason is that the first time I met her she was wearing lavender and it is just absolutely the best color on her. Her mom (my sis-in-law) said she really doesn’t like purple, but does now because it looks so much better on her daughter than pink! Go figure!
I think of two things–Purple was the school color at the elementary school where I taught for 8 years! I really never had much purple in my wardrobe until I started teaching there! lol! The other thing I think of is a poem my mom had framed and which hung on her bedroom wall. This was pre-red hat society times, and it was called something like: “When I am old I shall wear purple”. She passed away much too young so I never had the chance to see if she really would….wear purple…when she got old!!
I first think of the movie The Color Purple and then I think of Easter.
The movie The Color Purple!!
-Andre’a

I always think of my grandmother because she would always say ” When I get old I shall wear purple. Thanks for the chance to win!
Purple reminds me of grape flavored soda pop. I craved it so bad when I was pregnant with my son, that was 18 years ago.
