Up next…INK!

February 8, 2008      Nichole Heady

We have received such an enthusiastic response from all of you regarding our new cardstock!  I am so thrilled that you all are as excited as we are.  Continuing on with our Perfect Match line of products, today I will be focusing on our NEW ink!

Many of you are already familiar with the Palette Hybrid Ink pads that we carry.  We have worked extensively with the manufacturer to bring you the same quality ink in Papertrey’s exclusive colors!

A little about Palette Hybrid Inks.

They aren’t classified as a "dye" or "pigment" ink, because they have features from BOTH categories.  Which is one of the reasons they are among my favorites!  It basically eliminates the need to ask yourself if you are using the appropriate ink for your stamping surface.  Pretty much the only thing you can’t do is heat emboss with it. (It will not stay wet enough to cling successfully to the powder)

Palette works on pretty much everything!

It is a non-solvent ink so it doesn’t have any bad smells associated with it.  It dries instantly on paper and porous surfaces, but requires just a slight heat-set on glossy surfaces or fabrics (think baby onesies!).  I just LOVE this stuff!

It is also acid-free, archival and non-fading.

So it is perfect for scrapbook applications.  Another thing I love about it is the vividness of the color it produces.  A perfect example of this can be found with lighter colors.  Sometimes I struggle with lighter dye inks being vivid enough to truly be useful.  I own several dye-based yellows & baby pinks that hardly show up, even on white cardstock.

With Palette inks, no matter how light the color, the vibrancy remains very strong.

If you have never tried Palette ink before, I would highly recommend at least trying it once to see how you like it.  The first impressions I had when I first tried it were very good.  Palette ink provides really good coverage on clear stamps.  They require a light touch when inking.  I have found several light taps to be the perfect inking method.

020808_ink_wet_2I have noticed when first stamping the image, it can appear somewhat blotchy.  Here is a photo depicting an image freshly stamped with Spring Moss Hybrid ink.

020808_ink_dry_2This is an "after" photo.  As the ink dries on the paper, you can see the color absorb and even out.  It is almost like magic!  I have tried to capture the transformation here so you will not be alarmed the very first time you ink up!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

020808_ink_pad_2About the packaging…

The actually ink pad will be exactly the same as the original Palette Ink pads.

020808inkcover_2The only difference being the artwork on the lid.  This is an example of the design that will be silk-screened on the lid of the ink pads in a similar color to the ink itself. ( I don’t have a finished ink pad to show you because they are in a truck en route to our warehouse!)

020808_cover_removed_with_bottomOne thing I learned recently was that you can use the lid as a handle!  If you look carefully at the back of the ink pad, you will notice a groove following the inside edge of the lip.

020808_lid_attached_to_backThe lid fits perfectly in this groove.

020808_ink_lid_handle_2Once you have done that, you can have a great hand-hold to ink up a large stamp or do some direct to paper distressing.  Notice the finger grips built into the side, too.  It’s such a comfortable ink pad to hold.

So how about the price?  $6 for a full-size ink pad and $4 for the ink refill.  We will not be offering the small ink cubes, at least in the beginning, but perhaps if we get enough requests, it might be something we could do in the future.

So, do you want to be one of the first stampers to experience our new ink colors?

Tell us which characteristic(s) of Palette ink color intrigue you the most in the comments section of this post.  I will pick one lucky winner who will receive one Palette ink pad in each of the new colors, Aqua Mist & Spring Moss.  (two ink pads total)  The contest will close tomorrow (02/09/08) at 12pm (EST).  The winner will be announced that evening.

Tomorrow I will be telling you all about our NEW fabulous ribbon!  You will not want to miss all of the luxurious details!  Our ribbon is nothing short of the best and I’m anxious to tell you why!  See you tomorrow!

Not only do I love that these will match the new cardstock and ribbon, but having used the Palette inks before, they are truly my favorite because of the crisp image they give. I’m so glad to see them in new fresh colors!

I really love the Pallette ink and use it all of the time. I most like that it is a mix between dye and pigment and that it is archival. SO happy to see you used it to make your great new colors!

The best feature of the ink pads is that they perfectly match the PTI cardstock and ribbons. I can’t wait to try them!

I am really intrigued by the fact that they inks are sort of a middle of the road between pigment and dye. This seems especialyl exciting since I’m often looking for more coverage than your standard SU classic pad, for example, but really dont’ like to work w/ messier “pigment/craft” inks. The handle feature looks way cool as well since I’m often using bigger background stamps. I can’t wait to own everything you’ve shown us so far…!!!!

OMG!!! Your new inks are custom Palette Hybrid colors??? That’s awesome… I love how quickly they dry and are truly waterproof and work great with Copics too. Can’t wait to add them to my Palette collection!

  21. Beth says

    February 8, 2008 at 12:15 AM

I am slowly but surely collecting all of the Palette colors and there are several reasons. First, they provide the vibrant, fade resistent coverage of a pigment ink while they have the dry time of a dye ink. Second, when used with acryllic stamps, you receive the same crisp image that you expect from quality rubber stamps. Third, they will work on any surface that I have tried from paper to transparencies. And now, the cherry on top of it all, they will coordinate with PTI new colored CS and ribbon. Pure bliss! Thanks for this awesome opportunity!

    February 8, 2008 at 12:15 AM

I can’t wait to play with it. I have never used the hybrid ink before but it sounds like the best of both worlds. The great coverage of a craft ink with the quick drying of a classic ink. I can’t wait!!!!!

Love the fact that it works so well on different surfaces, dries immediately and does not have an odor. Aqua Mist reminds me of the sea and Spring Moss sounds so fresh like the first growth of spring.

I’m soo stinkin excited for your new colors! As much as I love the ink…I have always felt that they lack some much loved colors….I think you will fill in the missing colors perfectly! I love the coverage that pigment inks give but the crispness of a dye ink so to have an ink that does both is great. I haven’t tried Palette yet (had trouble locating them in Europe) but will be trying it out as I am a match freak (strong word but my paper craft friends would agree) so love that I’ll be able to buy complete sets.

Oh and pleeeeeeeeeeeeease I need small ink pads, small ones as I have run out of space for large ink pads and can only buy small ones for the foreseeable future…. :oS Please bring them out in a small size too, they’re great in that size when taking your gear to crops and storing easily.

I’ve never tried any of the Palette ink pads before…I’m intrigued by the fact that even light colored inks (think Pretty in Pink and Barely Banana) can show up on cardstock–even white–vibrantly. Can’t wait to see what other colors you will be offering…I’m hoping for a dark pink and orange combo next month 🙂

I bought my first Palette Hybrid Inks from Papertreyink several months ago and they have become my favorite inks. The coverage and richness of color make stamping even more fun. I really look forward to purchasing all the new exclusive ink pads to coordinate with your new cardstock and ribbon colors. Papertryink has become one-stop-shopping!!!

I have never used the Hybrid Inks because I truly didn’t understand what the benefits were. Thanks for the concise explanation– very helpful!

However, the big draw for me with your delightful new product line will be the fact that light colors will have vibrancy. Love pastels, but hate the way no one can see them! You’ve developed a perfect solution.
    Best Wishes,

I know where mine will be going. I’m sure many would agree, buying papertrey does the economy good. So I am just doing my part! I think my FAVE feature is that these inks work on anything. I always hated buying two pads of the same color so I almost always chose one or the other and made do. Your so smart to have such a multi purpose ink. No wonder your considered an industry leader.

Intrigued by the fact that the ink will continue to “fill in” on your stamped image. I have a few neglected Hybrids so will have to dust them off and play with them again. Would love to win your new colors!

I have several of the Pallete ink pads. I loe them! The fact that you don’t have to think of which ink to use is wonderful. I have made the baby onesies for several friends and they have loved them. The idea of being able to use my stamps for many other items then paper is great!
Can’t wait to order the new colors.

I have purchased several Palette inks from you, and am very pleased with the way in which the ink “adheres” to the acrylic stamps. I like the color selection to choose from, and the stackable nature of the design has worked well for me (I probably need to put some sort of identifying tag on the side, though). Thanks, Nichole! Upon experimenting with the pads, I figured out how to attach the top to the base—I would suggest it as it’s easier to hold the pad. I love Palette Ink and am excited you are getting them in your colors- I really like that you can use them on any surface.

And rather than use the lid as a handle for the inkpad, I often use it as a handle for my stamps- if I’m too lazy to find an acrylic block, I throw my stamp onto the top of the inkpad lid- you can just see through it, so it’s a perfect lazy solution.

I stumbled across PaperTrey recently & all I can say is WOW! Where have I been? And I’ve never HEARD of Pallette ink pads before so I’m just blown away! I noticed the finger grips on the pad right away & had to read to find out . . . yep it’s for gripping, how cool! And the lid acts as a handle? Even MORE cool! But then the ink being dual in nature, EXTREME WOW. I can tell that my little ones have been keeping me from the stamping world for too long–how could I not KNOW about these like everyone else! I’ve always loathed how Stazon smells & worrying about getting it everywhere . . (so awkward to use the pad) & waiting for it to dry thoroughly . . . ugh. Want more colors, but not pleased enough to delve in. Yay, a better ink pad! I’m dying to know how they meshed the 2 types of ink! I love that I can just have one type of ink pad–that will save space & $$$$$ (which just means more OTHER stamping stuff! lol) BUT NO ONE HAS SAID ANYTHING ABOUT CLEANING YOUR STAMPS–if it’s waterproof, does it mean it’s a pain to clean off your stamps like Stazon? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me it’s a breeze! I hate taking the time to clean pigment inks, & especially Stazon waterproof inks off my stamps. Please tell me it’s not like that! Then I’ll be in the ULTIMATE STAMPER’S HEAVEN! It would be the PERFECT ink pad! I’m so impressed with PaperTrey–everything feels so professional & TOP NOTCH. How amazing to start a stamp company with such class & quality. And to have your own exclusive color line & matching LABELS from the ink manufacturer–wow, I’m utterly impressed! I think PaperTrey is going to become one of the best known names in stamping–just too much class & quality. You know how the word spreads in the stamping community–won’t be long before EVERYONE KNOWS about you! I just found you & can’t stop raving myself! thanks for starting out so great!

I love the crisp, clear images I get when stamping with the Palette inks. Having paper, ribbon, and ink that are a “perfect match” make it so easy to produce a classy, professional looking project. And as a postscript, I’ll put in my request for the small ink cubes at some point in the future – they’re wonderful to pack up when you’re stamping on the go!

I think the best feature (which I guess applies to all the new products) is the fact that they match.

I’d still like to know if you are planning to provide something comparable to the color wheel (SU coach) for your ‘new’ products. I’ve found that although I love new colors, I am challenged when it comes to creating a pleasing match of colors ~ which is a big factor for me ~ I hate to have to spend a lot of time looking & comparing, etc ~ just to make a card that doesn’t quite work.

I already own several Palette inkpads and they are the best – they work on transparency film and shrink plastic as well as cardstock. Also, possibly important information, if you drop the Noir pallette ink on your khaki pants, it will come out with repeated application of goo-gone as long as you don’t run it thru the dryer until the spot is out.

The characteristic that I love most about the ink is that you can use it on anything. I don’t need the same color in two different formulas to stamp on two different mediums. The ink does look blotchy when you first stamp, but that disappears. Leaving you with a wonderfully colored image.

I use Palette Noir and love it. It is so versitile and I love that is has the staying power of a pigment ink but cleans up like a dye ink – clean and easy! I am so glad to hear you are going to have matching ink with your paper and ribbon!! This is just too exciting!!! 🙂

Palette inks are my absolute FAVORITE inks. I think the new cardstock colors were BEAUTIFUL…so it is wonderful that you were able to create these new exclusive colors. (BTW, I’ve successfully heat embossed with Palette inks – I use Transcendance EP and end up with a lovely shiny look. There is something about the fine Transcendance powder that makes it cling more easily to Palette and Stazon). I’m so excited to see the ribbons!!!

I’m looking forward to using your new ink, paper and ribbon! I’ve stamped and made cards for years but didn’t know about the variety of products available until I discovered SCS a couple of years ago. Since I didn’t have a lot of supplies at that time, I’ve been able to increase my choices with your stamps and other products each month.

The best thing about your new ink pads is that they’re hybrid pads! I just started using clear stamps and need some colors other than black – what a great way this’d be to start! Pick me, please? (And I have to say, the other great thing about the pads: they matchy-matchy with CS *and* ribbon!)

I love the fact that the ink “soaks” into the paper and alleviates the blotchy spots. What a fantastic idea. But what I think I love even more is that it’s a hybrid pad which takes the guess work out of deciphering whether or not the ink is archival safe !

Thank you for putting so much effort and thought in such a useful inking product! The extra touch of the handle grip means I don’t have to struggle withthe opening process and wear ink on my hands! Love the idea of having one ink pad to cover so many surfaces. it is quite funny to realize the amount of ink pads we think we need to buy, take up storage space, and confuse us as to what ink goes with what surface.

I love the ‘hybrid’ feature and that I don’t have to think about what kind of ink I’m using, and also that I’ll be able to use the color I want for the application I want (rather than being limited by the choices of, for instance, solvent inks available for stamping on glossy surfaces). And I’m SOOOOOO excited that you’re getting PTI perfectly matched inks to go with the cardstock and ribbon!! Seriously, how do I explain this to my DH?
