If you love crafts, you probably have a space in your home where you like to work or store your supplies. And if you’re lucky, it’s a dedicated room that fosters creativity and crafting focus — but it’s probably a bit messy. Or maybe that’s an understatement. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. A messy craft room is a sign of productivity and inspiration! But it might not be supporting your efficiency. Constantly searching for tools or supplies interrupts your creativity and can be downright frustrating.
Fortunately, you don’t need a big budget or fancy organization systems to keep your workspace clean and uncluttered. You just need a few suggestions. Here are some tips that work for us.
Keep your frequently used supplies close by
Items such as scissors, glue or your favorite go-to pens should be stored in plain sight. Use clear plastic containers to house these items that you access frequently. The last thing you want to do when you’re in the creative flow is to stop to search for tape.
Group like things together
Have a dedicated spot in your craft space for all your ribbons, all your dies, and all your stamps, for example. Sorting all of these products by type will help you locate the desired item faster, and make it easy to know when something is in short supply. No more purchasing glitter because you think you’re out, only to come across four partially used containers once you’ve bought more!
Put supplies back when you’re finished with them
Make sure to place your supplies back in their dedicated spots when you are finished with them. It will take only a few extra seconds, and it will save you headaches when you are trying to find them later.
Devote a table or desk to your crafting efforts
We advise establishing a central work area, such as a table or desk, that you use only for crafting. Don’t spread your supplies all over the house. A kitchen table can work in a pinch, but you will eventually have to clear it all off and potentially lose track of your supplies.
Get rid of what you don’t use
If you haven’t used a craft supply in more than two years, chances are you will never use it. It’s better to donate it to a fellow crafter or sell it if it has high value. A craft room will be much more organized and easier to work in if it contains only the essentials. So purge away!
Once you organize your craft space, you will be excited and inspired to use it even more. Especially because all of your supplies are right where they are supposed to be and easily accessible to you. All you need to do is channel that creativity and away you go!

Great tips… now if I can just make myself follow them. I’ve been trying to re-organize my craft/art studio for a while now and keep running into problems. BUT, this too shall pass. Thank you for sharing.
