Welcome to a new feature at Papertrey Ink called Transformation Tuesday.
We all have cards that don’t necessarily turn out the way we had envisioned or a project that we designed to be feminine that could be made masculine with a few tweaks. Some of you may remember the Recipe Remix Challenge from SAF 2013. It’s sort of like that (but with our own projects instead of customer submitted projects). The idea is to show a project transformed into something fresh and new.
Laurie Schmidlin is sharing how she transformed old to new today with a card she created a while ago:
“When I first created my swan card over a year ago, I wasn’t completely happy with it. It just didn’t turn out how I imagined it should. I made a few changes to it, including embossing the swans on white cardstock instead of dark, changing the background elements, and adding in some pastel flowers to lighten the card up a little bit.”
Supplies:
- STAMPS: Swan’sational, Lilies of the Field
- INK: Sweet Blush, Lovely Lady, Hibiscus Burst, Lemon Tart, True Black, Versamark
- PAPER: Stamper’s Select White, Smokey Shadow, True Black
- DIES: Swan’sational, Lilies of the Field, Delicate Details
- OTHER: Gold cord, Gold detail embossing powder

Very pretty! Love the addition of the Lilies and I like the swans stamped on white as opposed to the dark cardstock. My question: is this going to be a weekly or monthly challenge? Great way to get your customers using older, or neglected stamps. 🙂
Lizzie Jones says
This feature will be weekly. The Simple To Spectacular feature will be monthly. That’s coming soon.
Joyce says
Very pretty, I love the pop of color the flowers add.

What a wonderful transformation, Laurie! The pretty, pink lilies add such a light, fresh touch to your elegant card. I’m inspired to take another look at photos of my recent cards (the cards were mailed off right away!) to see how I can transform them. I can already tell that Transformation Tuesdays will encourage me to grow and blossom as a card maker! ?

These are going to be valuable lessons. I didn’t see anything wrong with Laurie’s “old” card until I scrolled to see her “new” one. Fabulous work, Laurie, and thanks for adding Transformation Tuesdays to your already busy schedules!

OH! The lilies would be perfect for Easter cards! Was anyone else thinking the same thing?

I see I’m going to love this feature. You took a very nice card, and made it really beautiful. The lilies are just the bit of color it needed.

What a great learning challenge! I liked your first card but can see the difference with the swans embossed on white and the pop of pretty pink lilies. The new card is elegant and lovely.

I need to play along, I have many cards I know I can do better! Both your cards are awesome!

Already at the 11th anniversary celebration I liked the Transformation Challenge and I am glad that it continues. I was thrilled when I saw my card as one of your favorites in the video. Thank you for this honor.
Laurie, although I like both cards, the color from the flower on the second card gives some freshness. Well changed !!
