I’m not sure I have many memorable birthdays. Mine tend to be in the shadows. But I do tend to go overboard with my kids’ birthdays. My son’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Birthday was my favorite…My entire dining room was covered in candy. I replaced the wall art with candy wall art, decorated the furniture with candy, and the table was covered with dirt, marshmallow trees, airplanes, trains, lollipops, cars, rockets, and things I can’t even remember. All edible. I’ve never seen a bigger smile on a little boy’s face. He was dressed in a purple jacket with a black hat because he was Willie Wonka. We had a tasting contest with foods covered in chocolate. You had to figure out what was covered in chocolate. For the record, chocolate covered Cheetos are disgusting. We popped blueberries to get the candy out. And other fun themed activities. It was a blast both to plan and to attend.
Laurie Hunt says
My best birthday was my 40th. My now husband, then boyfriend, flew my entire family into town and surprised me at a favorite restaurant!! It was the best!!!
paula e. says
The birthday that comes to mind was (eek – can’t believe I’m this old) 12 years ago when I was turning 50. My husband gave me a party that was more like a reception – DJ, catered food, adult beverages… and arranged with my youngest brother, Dave, to make a video about me. We had a big screen set up and we “aired” his creation. It was amazing! Even the staff that was there who didn’t know me or our family came up to me and said how impressive it was! We still play it at family gatherings. The “outtakes” he put at the end were hysterical and people were falling over with laughter. A star-filled, magical night all around!
Lee Winemiller Cockrum says
My first birthday with my boyfriend (now husband!) We had been dating for about 4 months. He took me out to a nice dinner, and told me for the first time that he loved me.
Laura Corkill says
My 35th was my favorite because it was a retro surprise party put on my by best friends. They knew how much I loved Strawberry Shortcake characters and Care Bears when I was young. So they had plates, napkins and balloons to go with the theme and someone even made me a Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake. My friends had all pitched in and bought me my first electronic die cutting machine. We spent the whole day and evening scrapbooking and having a wonderful time.
Jane says
I can’t say my most memorable birthday was “special” but the one that sticks out in my mind was the one where I had to spend the day picking up the rotten apples in our orchard with my sisters and I felt I shouldn’t have to do that on THAT day because it was my birthday!
Lori B says
My favorite birthday was two years ago. The whole family was able to be there and it was just fun to see everyone together again.
Cindy C says
My first birthday as a mom! It was awesome spending the day with my husband & new son, and just enjoying the day together!
Jill Norwood says
My birthday was yesterday…and each one is so very special and a gift in and of itself. My son gave me a “Best Mom Ever” mug and that put it over the top! Thanks for another wonderful release!
Sue Symens says
Memorable can some times be stressful. My 40th birthday my sister’s surprised me by showing up at my house for a long weekend. Yes, it was great to be together but I had to work and such and they decided to go to work with me. It was the thought that counted but it was a hard time. So glad I have family that cares enough to come see me!! Very memorable. Lol
Miriam Prantner says
Probably almost 20 years ago when my sister was in town for the summer and she and my now husband planned a surprise party for me.
Suzette says
When I was a little girl, my brothers, my mother, and I attended church services on a Sunday evening as we always did. My dad stayed home as he always did. This particular Sunday was my birthday. While we away worshipping God, my dad was home decorating for a surprise family birthday celebration for me! When we arrived home, there were balloons, decorations, and cake – all for me!! Needless to say, this is the one birthday that stands out for me.
Vicki Finger says
My best birthday was the year I turned 45. My husband came home from work and my grandson told him it was Mimi’s Birthday, so where was Mimi’s Birthday Cake? My husband took him to the store and they brought home a cake and 45 candles! He helped me blow them all out and I have a couple of pictures of us doing that. Sheer Joy is the expression on both of our faces.
Kristie Wilson says
Last year’s birthday was my most memorable one. My youngest nephew was born that morning. It’s neat to share a special day with him.
annheidel says
My mom threw me a surprise birthday party when I turned sixteen. It was so much fun!
Carrie K says
For the last several years my birthday has always been spent out on the soccer fields watching my kids play. Normally, that’s an activity I enjoy, however, at that time of year it’s usually nearing the end of the season and is typically cold and windy. This year, however, my birthday fell during a school break and we spent the day in Orlando! Such a nice change of pace, and so good to relax in the warmth and have fun with my family on my birthday!!
Kelly Schirmer says
On my 40th birthday, my family surprised me with tickets to my first Buffalo Bills game! We ended up sitting on the 40-yard line, so I was 40 on the 40!
Nancy Penir says
My most memorable birthday, let’s see… when you are blessed with a large family, every birthday is special. And memorable. And we seem to go overboard celebrating the decade birthdays (20, 30, 40, etc.). My 60th was my favorite. My children hired a sushi chef, and we all dressed in kimonos with my daughter’s yard turned into a Japanese garden! The kids, my friends and family were all there and we enjoyed every moment.
Yep, I’m smiling remembering. Love this month’s release. My list is long, with so many wonderful stamps and dies!
Regina M. Hamilton says
My most memorable birthday was my 39th. I was pregnant with my son, and he was due in 3 days
Luanne says
I always love it when I’m with my family to celebrate. But my most memorable one, is when I walked off a plane in London, England on the morning of my birthday, and my husband was waiting there for me! We enjoyed London, Paris and Amboise, France over the next week. Never thought I’d get to travel abroad, so it was a dream come true!
Marianne says
When I turned 21, all of my student friends bought me flowers, especially roses and freesias. I barely had enough space in my 12m² room to put them all. But the best thing was waking up in the morning to the sweet smell of all of these flowers.
Julia Aston says
One birthday, when I was little, we had a rotating plate that played “Happy Birthday to You” while the cake turned around – I thought that was pretty special!
Rachel Weaver says
My most memorable was my 18th birthday. Although I was in college a long way from home, I was near my grandmother’s home. My birthday was on Saturday that year…and I had a Saturday 8am class…which I skipped. Instead I went to my grandmother’s … and woke up to the smell of hot homemade biscuits just coming out of the oven. What a birthday breakfast treat!
CrafteA says
My most memorable birthday was when I was 45. It’s when I became a Nana!
KRISTII LOCKART says
My fiftieth Birthday was my most memorable! My coworkers threw a surprise party and they outdid themselves! It was one I’ll always remember and treasure!
Shelly Sweigart says
I’d have to say what seems to stick out in my mind is the first birthday I celebrated when hubby and I were dating. His parents always had a tradition of buying an icecream cake for the birthday celebration. I had never eaten one before and I couldn’t believe how good it was!
Sandy Dayhoff says
When I was a kid, I had always wanted a bike. Times were tough, but on my 14th birthday (finally!) I received a brand new bike! I was in shock, but so thrilled! My birthday is in July, so I spent most of my time outdoors on that thing! I was in such good shape – skinny & tanned!
Paula Fuller says
My 60th was my most memorable birthday. My best friend gave me a SURPRISE Birthday Party and all my children attended. It couldn’t have been nicer and the gifts were so special and meaningful, but their demonstration of love topped it all.
Annie Dill says
The first memorable one that came to mind is when I hoped I could finish radiation for Stage 1 breast cancer by my birthday. I did not want to go for a treatment on my birthday! It worked out that I finished the day before. My darling husband had ordered me a beautiful golden leather jacket and we did not pay extra for it to come in time. On my birthday, I sat at the computer and saw a shipping notice of a 2-day window. I thought, the jacket might be on our front porch right now! I jumped up, opened our front door, and there was the package! I happily wore the jacket that night for a birthday dinner date and felt like a teenager again. The next night, despite very snowy weather, a dear friend from church threw me a birthday party at her house. All of this was so triumphant after cancer! I have been cancer-free for 10 years this month!
Samantha Johnson says
My most memorable birthday was my 30th, my friends and family had a nice dinner party for me and we just all enjoyed each other’s company.
DGolly says
This is a hard question to answer. I’ve reached an age where I would prefer not to count the years so I’ll have to go with my 18th when it was exciting to be getting older.
Gina Eggebrecht says
My 37th. I was pregnant (finally!) with my first child, we’d just found out we were having a girl – and so all my birthday presents were things to prepare me for motherhood, like a video camera.
Amie says
My most memorable birthday was my 30th…my hubs threw a surprise party for me. I still can’t believe my grandma came all the way from FL to IL just to celebrate with me! 🙂
Marilyn G says
A few years ago my husband took me up to see the fall colors in the mountains. We drove up to the parkway stopping to take photos and ended in Asheville, NC where we stayed the weekend at a historical hotel and spa. It was the perfect weekend. Special since before we were married we’d gone camping in the mountains close to the same area around the same time of the year. We set up camp after arrival and the following morning had to pack up due to a medical emergency. Missed all the leaf viewing, plus i had to pack the camp in record time in the dark and get him to a hospital.
Katherine says
My most memorable birthday was going to the dinner, the arcade and to see Cloak and Dagger at the theater! It ended with cake and a spend the night party. My parents were wonderful to host 6 wild girls!
MelissaF says
My most memorable birthday was when my mom visited me several years ago: she flew over 1,000 miles to Ben with me for my birthday.
Amy McCue says
I had a trellis built for an enormous rose bush I have that had outgrown its anchors. When the gentlemen completed it, they wired my rose up on the trellis. It took a lot of work to do this because the plant is HUGE. They took advantage of the scaffolding they had up to do our siding. They had to wear welding gloves because this plant has wicked thorns. Most folks would have figured they built the trellis, it was my problem to figure out how to get it up there. It just happened that the day they completed it and wired it up for me was my birthday. It was so above and beyond, I literally cried when I got home and saw it. I thought I was going to have to totally cut the rose back to wire it up, but the three men did it for me without even being asked to!
Lisa M says
My most memorable birthday is my 16th. I remember it so vividly and my father flew across country to spend that day with me even though he was gone on business. He surprised me and I will never forgot the lengths he went to in order to be with me , even for a short few hours…..on my sweet sixteen. Love My Dad!
Crystal O. Minkler says
My most memorable birthday was my last birthday just last month. My family took me to my favorite restaurant, P.F. Chang’s, and my second oldest son gave me a beautiful necklace that he made himself. It was a wonderful day!
Teresa Thornborough says
Wow, love everything in your new release!!! My most memorable birthday was September 2016, when I turned 60. My family threw me a surprise 60th birthday party, which was my first surprise party ever, and it was amazing! It was held at my daughter’s home, which is on a lake, and the day and the view were beautiful! Friends were there from high school, as well as family members who I hadn’t seen for a while. I had the most spectacular birthday cake ever, made by a friend of my daughter’s, who just opened her own cake baking business. Wish I could post a pic so you could see it! It is a day I will never forget!
Anita T says
One of my most memorable birthdays was when I thought I was going out with friends to celebrate the completion of an event we had all worked on, and they totally surprised me with a birthday dinner!
Cheryl says
My most memorable birthday was the year I turned 50. My birthday is the day after Christmas. A dear friend of many years was taken off life support Christmas morning. After saying my goodbyes, My sister and I drove over a snowy mountain pass to my mothers house. It was so hard for me to put a smile on my face. The next day (my birthday) my family threw a surprise Hawaiian Luau in the snow! They wore floral leis and grass skirts over their sweaters and jeans. They had flown in a beautiful fresh floral lei for me. We danced and laughed which warmed my broken heart. My mom made a wonderful themed meal and had my favorite cake. It was a day I will hold in my heart forever.
Fritz says
My 50th birthday is by far the most memorable. My daughter planned and executed a surprise party with a Scottish theme. Haggis, Scotch Eggs, Scottish Beer, the whole nine yards. She hired a bagpiper who had just come back to the states after piping for Queen Elizabeth. The whole neighborhood got a taste of live bagpipes that night! And my dear friend flew up from Georgia to surprise me. It was without a doubt the most glorious birthday party ever!
Lisascreativeniche says
I have to say my 18th Birthday… Mainly because even though there had been a snowstorm and school had been canceled my 2 friends made their way to my house and took us out for dinner and stayed the night… It meant more to me than they probably ever knew
LindaCC says
My most memorable birthday was as a child. Presents in the morning before school, taking tree spritz cookies as my birthday treat to share and my first ever birthday party with friends, games and prizes!
RedGem says
My BFFs took me to afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlson and gave me a photo album of the event!
Annette Pope says
My 60th birthday was one of the best ones as I was taken out for dinner with my husband and daughter and also my husband’s cousins, but I was unaware that my younger brother by 19 years had travelled from down south to the north of the country with his wife to give me a surprise birthday treat. This was quite emotional as I hadn’t seen him for some time and it just made my day and we all had a lovely evening together.
Eileen Mathys says
My favorite memory is the birthday I turned 23. I was pregnant for my daughter and my grandmother made me the most delicious cream cheese frosted carrot cake I had ever tasted. My grandmother has always been an amazing cook… but she had truly outdone herself with this one. It wasn’t until a few years later that I realized that with her declining health, it was one of the last things she made for me.
Barbara Kirkwood says
Probably my favorite was when my kids got together and got us tickets to see Oprah in Chicago. What a thrilling weekend ! IT was my 60th!!! Where does the time go?
Jessica Monte says
Oh it’s kinda funny for my 30th my sister’s friend gave me 30 bottles of wine I am going on 46 and still gave a few left. My husband made me a beautiful L shaped desk as well with lots of storage. I am so loving this release.
Nancy Guse says
My most memorable birthday was when I turned 50. All my siblings and there better half came, but what made it SO special is my Mom and Dad were there also. Not knowing at the time, my Mom passed away a month later. I SO appreciate that my husband put this special surprise day together for me!!! (tears:)
Renee VanEpps says
My most memorable birthday was when I found out I was pregnant 🙂 Best birthday ever! Thanks for the chance to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isabel Z says
My birthday is several days before Christmas and with all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it tends to get overlooked. I even forget about it (sometimes) so my most favorable birthday is my kids’ birthday parties. When they were little, we would choose a theme and have a celebration at home. Our favorite was a carnival party where we made all the games, a ticket booth, a photo shoot area, and the children played carnival games winning tickets along the way that they turned in for little prizes. We had so much fun, they wanted to recreate it for each of their birthdays.
Beverly Perdue says
My most memorable birthday was when I turned 50. My family surprised me with a birthday party and I wasn’t expecting it. What made it so special is that my brother and his family came from out of town. We had a great time.
Betty Wright says
My most memorable was my 11th! My mom and dad threw me a Surprise Birthday Party and invited all of my friends. They all kept it a secret, too! They all screamed surprise when I walked in. I got a lot of games including a Badminton set. It was a lot of fun!
Carol says
My most memorable was my last birthday. It was a biggie (60 – which I still don’t feel!) and my husband planned a river boat trip on the Mississippi with our kids/grandkids and then my favorite pizza place afterwards. No big party (which I told him 100 times I did not want and he listened!), just those I love most in the world. LOVE this release – love everything in it!!
Barb McArthur says
My most memorable birthday was my 65th. I went to Ireland with two of my best friends for an amazing week to celebrate.
Kathy J in Ellicott City says
My most memorable birthday was the one where my children were old enough to actually remember it was there mom’s birthday and let me know that.
Susan P says
I can’t remember one birthday in particular. Since the kids have grown up and left the house, we don’t do much special for our birthdays. 🙁 But I do love celebrating my kids and grandkids birthdays. Once my kids left for college, I made an effort each year to take them out to lunch on their birthdays. It’s gotten harder now, because we are spread out more, but I love celebrating them! And let’s not even get into grandchildren’s birthdays……. :):):)
Sara Peatross says
My most memorable birthday was my 30th. My birthday is always with Thanksgiving. My family traveled 13 hours each way to spend my birthday with me. It was just great to be with all my family at my house for a change.
Karen Brig says
Awesome release – I love all of the birthday balloons and the scratch off items – so unique and clever! My most memorable birthday was when I was thirteen. My birthday fell on the last day of school. I remember riding my bike home from school, feeling the sun on my face, and going so slowly as not to rush the event. The anticipation was part of the fun. Karen
Nicole S says
My most memorable birthday was probably 2015 when I flew over the Nasca Lines in Peru with my new husband, brother and friend and then spent the night in a desert oasis! Love the creativity of this release!
Martha says
My most memorable birthday will be this year! I wanted to see Wicked on Broadway for my 40th birthday but financial circumstances didn’t allow it. Ten years later and my daughter and I have tickets to see it in April, my birthday month!
Linda Carson says
My most memorable was when my Dad gave me a $50 savings bond. He was so proud that he could! I still have it after all these years!
Sharri Niehus Reeves says
It would have to be my 50th. They decorated my office at work with black crepe paper, headstones, crows, etc. and replaced my chair with a wheelchair. The cake had black frosting and more crows. We had a great time, laughing at me trying to maneuver the wheelchair down the halls and into the classrooms. It made turning 50 a blast!
Elizabeth says
I’ve been blessed by so many memorable birthdays…but one in particular was my 24th. Some dear friends threw me a surprise party and I had NO idea. I was in complete awe and overwhelmed by all their love and thoughtfulness!
Betty Sue says
I don’t really have a favorite birthday. I like to spend the day with my family and friends in a small celebration. My husband makes me the best cakes!!
Shelly says
Amazing release and projects!!
I try to make every birthday memorable, I can’t really say one year stands out more than the others. Though, I will say what makes each one so memorable for me is getting handmade cards from all my kiddos, along with their sweet little gift. <3 To this day, I still have all their cards and gifts. 🙂
Liz mca says
My best birthday memory was my daughter’s 7fh. We planned it together and her giant smile when her friends sang happy birthday is forever etched in my heart
Ronda B says
The party my four girlfriends threw for my 50th bday was the best! My husband was out of town and the girls showed up at my house with food and drink, and even decorated. We had a spa day pampering each other with foot soaks, paraffin wax dips, mani/peddies, facials, sea salt scrubs, hot stone massages, and soaking in the hot tub. All followed by an old fashioned sleep over and a big breakfast the next morning. So blessed to have such awesome friends!
Leah D. says
My parents organized a mall scavenger hunt for my 13th birthday–what could be more perfect for a bunch of teenage girls? Then Mom got pulled over for speeding on the way to the mall with all my friends in her car. Fortunately, she only got a warning, but she was totally mortified. That was a memorable one for everyone. But everyone had a great time.
Debra F. says
My favorite birthday was many years ago when I was 13. We moved from the West Coast to the South. The morning of my birthday, we were staying in a hotel, and my mother gave me a beautiful ring. The ring was a ring that my grandfather had made for my grandmother from one of his stick pins. It was so beautiful and so thoughtful. I still cherish it today. It was the best birthday gift ever!!!
April Z. says
Either my birthdays have been boring or my memory is bad, but I can’t think of any birthday that stands out. I’m loving the new releases this month!
AngP says
For my 30th birthday, a sweet friend of mine threw a surprise birthday party with a catered meal and piano player, crystal glasses and china dishes. It was quiet lovely!!

My birthday is in February in northern Michigan. My parents rented the high school swimming pool for my 16th birthday and my friends and I had a great time swimming. Afterwards we went to our house and roasted hot dogs in the fire place. That is one birthday I will never forget!
Natasha Trupp says
This year’s was pretty special- I finally got the job I was hoping to get permanently (not like this was actually because of the birthday, but it was pretty awesome regardless!). And then that evening, my husband and I headed to The Forks for a tasty dinner at Nuburger and we braved the elements and explored the Ice Castle that has been set up this year. It was really beautiful and a nice way to spend the evening!
Donna Gourley says
My most memorable birthday was probably my 50th. I had just become a first time grandma earlier that month. My daughter was in college at the time and only learned that she was pregnant about 5 months prior to the birth so this was a “surprise” to everyone. We were all trying to adjust. But after my granddaughter arrived, we all changed gears pretty quickly since my daughter and new granddaughter were living with us. Because I was taking lots of photos (naturally), my other children (and husband) gave me a new laptop and printer for my birthday so I could print my own pictures at home. Their gift was very unexpected and generous, not to mention very much appreciated.
Karen L says
My favorite birthday is when I turned 55, my daughter and I test drove a VW beetle convertible. We had the best time. I liked the car so much that I purchased one two years later!

A BIG “0” birthday when my husband and children surprised me with a birthday dinner surrounded by friends….and 2 beautiful bracelets they gave me that I now wear daily….signature pieces and a reminder of their love.
Vickie Davis says
My most memorable birthday was a surprise dinner on my 49th. My husband already knew I didn’t want a party on my 50th, so he really did surprise me!

My 5th birthday stands out because my uncle had a new camera that recorded! Of course, everyone wanted to be in a “movie”…. total goofballs.
Debbie P says
My most memorable birthday was not mine but my daughter’s. She was living in Atlanta and my husband and I live in Washington state. on her 30th birthday her husband gave her an evening birthday party with several of their friends including our other daughter who was visiting. We spoke to her on the phone and wished her a happy birthday. What she didn’t know was that my husband and I were flying out to surprise her. We walked up to the door and rang the bell while the party was in progress. She was so totally surprised. We all broke out in tears of joy! That was my most special birthday!
Zehra says
My birthday when I was 23, it was my first bday in United States and my friend took me out, it was lovely and unexpected.
JanetB says
Good question, it really made me look back and think about my answer. My 60th birthday was very memorable, my sweet husband gave me a dinner party at one of our favorite restaurants. My sisters came from several states away, some good friends made the trip from other parts of the state, and of course my children were there. A happy time when lots of friends and family gathered together to celebrate, so fun!
Linda Craig says
There are not too many birthdays that I remember. Mom’s birthday is not a big event. I do remember one birthday not because of the birthday celebration but because it was cut short because my son and his daughter were broke down on the side of the road with our car. My husband had to arrange a tow truck. We met them and had the car towed to my husband’s work place.
Susan Beauchaine says
My dear husband worked in NYC for several years. He commuted so we didn’t have to up-root our
kids. I spent as much time as I could with him. His landlord became a dear friend. One year for my birthday Al and Gary arranged a Chocolate Tour.
We went to at least 10 of the top chocolate shops in the city and bought at least a taste from every stop. It was a day I will never forget. We even made a
stop on the High Line! A FABULOUS memory!
Krista T says
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and my 50th birthday in China at a panda sanctuary. Another cool thing about the day is that I was able to call my son in the US, whose birthday is a day before mine, and because of the time difference, we were both able to wish each other happy birthday on our actual birthdays.
Susan Hoey says
My most memorable Birthday was when I turned 50 and my Mom planned a surprise Birthday party for me.

Lucky for me that my birthday is on Christmas so I always have family here and we celebrate the BIG day for everyone. And before you ask, NO I don’t feel that my birthday is anything less than wonderful. There is ALWAYS a party, I mean it’s Christmas lol Anyways 6 years ago, unbeknownst to me, my family planned on giving me a Surprise Party and they actually pulled it off! It was at a cool restaurant/lounge in Boston and they got me there by saying it was a Surprise Party for my daughter, my son-in-law was arranging the entire thing. So Hubby and I packed up from the Cape and made the drive in. I was mad at him as I thought he kept driving in circles (apparently stalling for time lol) and getting us lost. When I walked in I saw my Mom and all of my siblings and their spouses, my daughter and son-in-law….it took me a minute to figure out what was going on. I was totally SURPRISED! I truly was, I mean I even bought the cake and it said Happy Birthday Lori–my daughter LOL Oh they got me good! My sister even flew out from Iowa. GREAT BIRTHDAY…..but again, I think they all have been!
Stephanie H says
My most memorable birthday was two years ago – When my nephew was born on the same day!
Colleen B. says
It wasn’t mine, but my sister’s 50th. The celebration took place in Vegas and was filled with so much fun, laughs and memories!
MaryB says
My most memorable birthday was my 40th. My hubby and kids planned a surprise party after Sunday church. We were in 2 cars that day, and I was leaving the parking lot with the kids to go home. They were trying to figure out how to get me to stay without giving away the surprise. Finally, a friend ran out of the building and flagged us down as I was backing out of the parking space. He made up some strange reason why I needed to come back into the fellowship hall. I had no clue or suspicion at all – they had kept a good secret! Thanks for the chance to win a gift certificate – this month it would be used up in a split second!
Cindy H. says

Can we mention a future [coming soon] birthday? I have a “big” birthday coming up on March 14. The girls have planned a vacation of 6 days in Jamaica. Can’t wait! They live far away from us so it will be extra special to just spend a week(almost) with them, relaxing and mostly having them all to myself! I love having grown up kids that come up with amazing plans. Thanks for a chance to win in the January release giveaway!
Arianna Barbara says
My most memorable birthday was 3 years ago! I spent it in Disneyland Paris! It was amazing and very magical!

My most memorable birthday was the year I was kidnapped from the airport. It was a week after my 50th birthday and I flew to Michigan to help my mother after her hip surgery. A friend picked me up but instead of taking me “home”, I was taken to a hotel where five other friends were awaiting us. It was a surprise over-nighter with wonderful friends I had not seen for a while … eating, swimming, eating, games, laughing, eating, sitting by the fireplace and chatting. It was great.

My most memorable birthday was my 50th. I worked in the business office of our local school district, which was located in the high school building. When I arrived at work that morning, every locker, every window, every classroom door down the entire hallway had an 8×11 picture of me with the words “Wish Mrs. A a Happy 50th!!” The students were wonderful, offering birthday wishes all day long. Very memorable!

When I was 10, I had a double birthday slumber party with one of my friends! We stayed at her house since she had a huge rec room for us all to sleep in – there were at least 10 of us! We watched scary movies and her brother tried to infiltrate the fun and scare us all night! I’m likely dating myself here, but our party theme was the Smurfs and we had a really cute cake! That was probably my first slumber party. Oh the memories! Great release – the “birthday release” is always one of my favs!
Irene Sterquelle says

A couple of years ago my birthday fell on the same day as my son’s swim team banquet (which I was involved in organising). When I got there friends had tied balloons to the back of my chair and, after the presentations, the whole room sang happy birthday. Very embarrassing, but very sweet too!

It was my 8th birthday party (a very long time ago – long before jumpy houses!) and my first and last birthday party. We didn’t have much money when I was growing up which now I love, it made me appreciate the important things! Anyway, my best friend had been sick from school most of the week and wasn’t going to be able to attend. I was broken hearted but understood. The day of my party she was improved and surprised me by coming! It was my best present having her there! We played all day and she stayed for dinner. It was perfect and meant everything and is still engraved so clearly. A few days later she, along with her Mother and one of her brothers were killed in a car accident (no seat belts then). That day was easily one of my worst days. I never had another birthday party as a child because I knew nothing would top our day and feared anyone else getting hurt which of course over the years realized how unrealistic of a worry that was. I still think of her every birthday and wonder what wonders she would have contributed to this world. She had such an amazing family! Thank you for letting me celebrate her in this forum! I miss you Sherry … still. ❤️

Looking forward to all the new goodies!!
The actual day of my birth was extraordinary… they’d given up on me, so dad and the guys went to the Indy 500. I must have decided to enter the race and Gran had to race mom to the hospital. That was back before cell phones existed. Fortunately the race was over and dad was there in time to see me into the world!

This is hard to answer because I love my birthday…it’s on St. Patrick’s Day and it’s always a lot of fun because I’m either celebrating with my students or I’m on Spring Break. If I had to mention one of them, then probably my 39th…my boyfriend, now my husband, took me on a romantic getaway and gave me my first piece of jewelry…a diamond necklace. When I looked at the box, I said, “that better not be a ring.” LOL.

My most memorable birthday was actually not mine but my dear mother’s 80th birthday. She was never one to be in the spotlight but always loved celebrating and doing things for others. Her whole life was lived around serving others! We gathered as many of her school, church, neighbors, family and friends as we could and surprised her with a grand party. Those who were unable to attend sent letters and cards which were put into a guest book with well wishes. My dear mother has left for her heavenly home but I will always be grateful to celebrate her in this special way!

Has to be the one hosted by my first grade class….several years ago when I was teaching. The students made the decorations as well as a special gift for me..an album of their art work dedicated to Mrs. Lander. The mom’s did pitch in with cake and ice cream. Until this day, I still remember their eyes shining with excitement and sheer joy of “surprising their teacher”…. also their pride in their accomplishments was so fun to see. Children truly give of themselves when given the opportunity. I so treasure all my memories, working with first graders… this one just happens to be one of my favorite birthdays because of them.

I’ve had (at 71) lots of memorable birthdays. I think the best was the year I turned 70. I live in Ohio. Two of my four children and their families are nearby…one is in Idaho and the 4th is in Washington state. My sister’s entire family is also in Seattle. My birthday is in November. My children wanted to celebrate my 70th with a party, but we’re so scattered, and, celebrating in Ohio in November? So…they pooled their resources…flew me in July (and my two daughter’s families) to Seattle where I stayed with my son and his family for a few days…stayed with my sister & husband a few days…flew me to Idaho for a few days with that daughter’s family. I was gone for almost 2 weeks. Parties and celebrations of “me”. It was so special. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so loved or so incredibly blessed.
Amy Vitriani says
Favorite birthday memory hmmm… well I didn’t have birthdays as a child so actually every birthday I’ve had as an adult has been super special just in different ways.

I have 2 most memorable birthdays. The first one when I was turning 13, I asked to go winter camping for my birthday. However, the weather was particular miserable. But my family endured it instead of going home for me. (I also did not enjoy it, not sure why I didn’t ask to go home). But looking back its fun to laugh about the craziness of it all. And the fact that I do have such a great family. The 2nd one was when I turned 30 and my now husband proposed to me then took me to a surprise birthday party.

My 50th Bday was on a Sunday and I thought we were just relaxing and watching football. However, my husband kept telling me I really should put my makeup on and fix my hair since it was my Bday. I thought it was weird, but was complying when in walked my best friend (who lived 100 miles away) and her teenage daughter! They took me to a beautiful Victorian restaurant for a champagne brunch! To this day, she thanks my husband for getting me started early, because she knew how high maintenance I was, and we never would have made it in time for brunch otherwise.

My most memorable birthday was my 21st! I was still in college and I was flying out of Portland, Oregon to go to my best friend’s wedding in San Francisco.
My parents had driven me down to fly out. The night before we met up with my aunt , uncle and cousins. They took us to the Barbary Coast Lounge at the old Hoyt

We then drove to Key West and such a wonderful time–I still remember the sunsets at Mallory Square—what fun memories!!!!

My most memorable birthday was when I turned 19. My family’s home had burned down the early morning of December 31st. We had lost all of our family pets in the fire, luckily no one was home at the time. I turned 19 on January 12th and I wasn’t excited or cared to celebrate in any way. I was deeply depressed at the loss of our pets. My friends surprised me after work with a stripper of all things and a very obscene handmade cake. I was extremely shy and conservative and it was so not me, lol! However it showed how much they all cared about me and wanted to make my day extra special. I will never forget that birthday and I hold dear the caring and concern that they all felt for me.

Thinking back on this, I feel very blessed. When my siblings and I were growing up, my mom always made our birthdays special. But one of my more memorable ones was my 50th when my husband and I were camping in Colorado with my brother and his wife. They had a little party for me with a past, present and future type theme. My SIL had come up with very cool gifts to go with that theme that I still treasure today. My husband and I have always enjoyed the train and like to do cool adventures on them different places we travel. That year he surprised me with tickets on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge which was not only beautiful but so special. Colorado is a favorite place for us to go camping but that year it was extra special to me.

As a treat on my tenth birthday, my Mom brought me to a local hair salon for a haircut/curl and a manicure. Decades later, this magical experience is still vivid in my memory.

I’m not one that really enjoys celebrating my birthday so I don’t have one in particular that’s more memorable than another. I do enjoy just having a nice dinner to mark the occasion though.

My most memorabe birthday was my 59th birthday. After my dad passed, my mom came to live with us for a little while. My husband aways took me to Papedeauxs for my birthday, so of course we took mom along. My dad was never one to eat in “fancy” restuarants as he called them, so this was a treat for my mom. Even though it was my birthday, they treated her like a little queen and she enjoyed it so much, which made my birthday all the more special!
Tammy W says
My husband rented a beach house for a week in Virginia Beach (where we live) and had my whole family come in from Milwaukee to (try to) surprise me for my 50th birthday. I did find out before they all started arriving (by planes and cars, separately) but it was definitely a wonderful week spent with my parents and 2 sisters and their children and their 2 grandchildren. There were 20 of us. It was the first time I had met my 2 grandnephews (ages: 2 years old and 5 weeks old) too.
Kay Tillman says
My most memorable birthday would have to be my 30th birthday. I had my 2nd child right before I turned 30. We lost our first baby due to a heart defect 2 years prior so to be able to take my baby home with me, nothing can compare to that happiness. Thanks for the chance.
Johanna M says
My most memorable birthday? Perhaps the time my brother blew the candles on my cake just before I was about to do it. Cheeky! I was six and he was three. I was not amused, but everyone else at the table was.

My Daddy died ten days before Christmas and three weeks before my 9th birthday. Christmas had been a somber, so I wasn’t hoping much more for my birthday. It was a normal school day. Elementary released an hour before high school as usual, and I would spend the last hour or so with my mom in the high school office where she was the secretary. When I walked in that day, I was surprised with a birthday party organized by a group of high school girls (led by one of my cousins) complete with cake, balloons, and gifts! Boy, did I need that hour of happiness!!
Nancy M says
Just having/celebrating another birthday makes it memorable to someone who experienced a life-changing medical event in her late teens. With that in mind, the birthday my daughter first said, “Happy birthday, mama!”, still holds a special place in my heart.

As a card maker, most of my friends and family almost expect that the cards they receive from me will be handmade. They seem to enjoy the special attention and also see it as an opportunity to ask me to make cards they can gift to others. For some reason, my 50th birthday brought out the card maker in several friends. Friend #1 has never crafted a day in her life; as a matter a fact, she is repelled by all things glue, paper, and pink. Her card was pieced together with stickers, special paper, and a dab of glitter. Friend #2 has occasionally engaged in a craft or two, but her specialty is drawing. She’s fairly private about her talent and RARELY shares it with others. That year, she decided to draw a card front and used it to gift me a beautiful sentiment. Friend #3 enjoys giving beautiful cards…that she buys at a popular card shop. On my 50th birthday she took the time to replicate a handmade card by using pretty paper, pearls, and a floral embellishment. It was gorgeous! That year was special because it gave me a chance to see what it was that inspired people when it came to birthdays and celebrating a friend.
Lisa Dolson says
When our kids were little, I saw a quilted wall hanging that I just loved and I designed a queen size quilt based on it. After figuring all the yardages, I realized that we couldn’t possibly afford all the fabrics needed for the quilt. Unbeknownst to me, my husband told my mom to get things ordered for me. On my birthday, I opened package after package of all the different fabrics needed…and they were gifts not only from my husband and mom, but also siblings and in-laws! They got everyone one in on the action. It was the sweetest thing. I of course cried! It took three years to make the quilt, but I love it just as much today as when I designed it.
Rachel W says
When I was little we didn’t have much extra money to spend so we rarely went out to eat, including fast food. When I was elementary age my mom took us and some school friends to mcdonald’s for my birthday party. The staff hosted games and we ate hamburgers. I thought it was the best thing in the world. I even ended up with a little inflatable grimace doll. I don’t have the doll anymore, but I still have my mom and I’m grateful for the great birthday memories.

My 50th! a couple of weeks before my birthday, I came home from grocery shopping, pushed the button to open the garage and saw a new lime green VW Beetle staring me in the face. My dear man and FIL drove 60 miles that morning to pick it up and get it back to the garage while I was out on errands. We met for our weekly Friday lunch in town and he asked how long I would be as he wanted to wash my car. “after grocery shopping I’ll hurry home” and he was waiting to see my face!

My Birthday is December 31 so there’s been a lot of fun times. But my most memorable is my 50th. My girls surprised me by taking me out to dinner at a very wonderful steakhouse, the Angus Barn, in Raleigh, NC paid for by gift certificates from my exhusband, their father. They planned and executed it all until I had to tell them how to get there. I have the most awesome and beautiful daughters. Now that I’ve remarried my husband makes each one memorable as well! I am blessed.

I insisted that you had to have a tree if you received presents.

My 60th birthday. My friends planned a weekend of camping & RZR riding. We camped at a friend’s who lives in the country, had a steak fry and rode all day Saturday and Sunday. Sunday evening, when we went into the shop to fix dinner, they had somehow decorated, put up banners, had a cake and gifts. I was so totally surprised, I cried.
Mary Lou Kemp says
I never had a childhood birthday party and to be honest I don’t know why and I have no one left to ask but, I had my first surprise party when I turned 30. My husband and our best friends that lived two doors down planned it. I was so upset all day long because not one person called to wish me a happy birthday and my feelings had been hurt. That evening my husband and I walked over to see our friends and standing outside their door I was giving my husband “what for” because he didn’t even buy me a birthday card…..so long story short, the door opened and a whole gang of friends and family shouted happy birthday and of course let me know they heard me fussing at my husband. Turning 30 was very hard for me….don’t know why but it was the hardest age. My party was the best though!
Elise Smith says

My birthday always seems to be pretty low key but I love surprising others on their special day. One of the most fun things that I have done was make a birthday “cake” made entirely out of my sons favorite candy bars/candy and then had it delivered to his school. He loved it as it was so attention getting and so did many of his friends.

Let’s just say my childhood birthdays were the usual with school friends playing games and eating cake & ice cream. My DH loves to take me on a trip somewhere for my birthday each year and those are very memorable vacations. However, my most memorable was my 21st. Not only did my coworkers celebrate at work but my closest friends threw a surprise party…and I was totally caught off guard. A couple of us also went to see John Denver in concert. Think I celebrated for a week that year. Yes, I’m that old!

My most memorable birthday was when I was turning 40 and lived in CA apart from my parents, siblings, etc. My parents, aunt and uncle, flew in from Oklahoma and surprised me. My mother was ill from a heart attack but she rang the doorbell holding a bunch of balloons. There was a lot of crying and hugs and we had a week of fun and lots of activities. My husband, son and I took them to the Roy Rogers Museum, to an art show my husband was in, good restaurants, and they loved our new home. It was a very special time for me because l missed everyone so much!

Upon thinking about it, one of my memorable birthdays was when I was 6 years old. My mom had a theme party for me (a tea party complete with fancy hats). My most memorable birthday was a few years ago, maybe my 45th? DH and I were on vacation in Kauai. Spent the day doing not much of anything, just enjoying the weather and each other’s company. It was great.
Adele Holcomb says
Any birthday that involves hugs and good wishes (and maybe a handmade card!) is a great birthday, and I’ve had many of them. One that sticks out across a lot of years is my 10th birthday, where a number of my neighborhood friends came over and we played typical 1950’s games and had cake of course. Birthday parties weren’t the big extravaganzas they have become, but it was fun to be the birthday girl. I have a photo of the group of us, and I was pleased that to remember each girl at my party, although it was 60 years ago!
karen b says
A very memorable birthday for me was the year my daughter was just about 2. My husband and my daughter made me a cake from scratch, it was a chocolate cake, she wore a white dress I had made for her with little smocked bunnies across the front yoke. We have pictures of her with her head in the bowl licking the batter, but not a speck of chocolate got on the dress! I just love simple everyday memories like this!
Fabulous release! Thanks for the chance to win!

I’ve only had one surprise party and that was when I turned 30 and was surprised by my church friends from a group I belonged to. I had no idea which made it so fun! They made me stand on a chair as they sang to me! I appreciate how special that is now 20 years later!
Susan says
My 13 1/2 birthday, now at 43 years old I can’t believe how thoughtful and kind my family was to do that for me. My parents planned a surprise party for me. Our family was super busy with the family farm on my 13th birthday so it kinda came and went without much notice. So they planed a party 6months after. I was SOOOOO Surprised that I yelled, “I am sorry you have the wrong person” even thought all my friends were there looking at me. It seriously took me a few minutes to figure it out! So funny! IT WAS AMAZING! It meant so much to me!
Heidi Burt says
My most memorable birthday has to be my 21st bday. I spent the day with my brother and best friend from University. We went to a radio comedy show in the morning. Jokes from that day still make it into our conversations. The day ended in a local club and one lost Birkenstock sandal.

When my daughters were 7 and 9, they decided to make me a birthday cake. They didn’t understand how to make the icing thick enough, so the icing ran down the sides to the bottom of the cake. They were so disappointed with the result, but I loved that they made the cake and it was special to me.

My most memorable birthday was my 25th. I was engaged to be married and that is the day we got our marriage license. We had to travel to my home in another state because we had to get the license in the county we were getting married in. I knew my fiancé didn’t have any extra money and I was very happy to accept that as my birthday gift! Another memorable birthday was when I turned 40. My husband arranged for my whole family to come from out of state as a surprise and then coordinated a party with his family and mine for the birthday celebration. The problem was when I was cleaning out pockets to do the laundry I accidently found in his pocket the list of who was bringing what food for the party plus my little daughter had innocently inquired where her aunt was going to sleep:-). The whole thing was very sweet and I kept my secrets too.

My best birthday was just two days ago. Everyone in the family got together and we had a wonderful Greek meal at a friend’s restaurant. I had more of a problem turning 29 than I did turning 30. When I turned 29, my DH took me to NYC for the weekend to see The Life and Times of Nicholas Nickleby( my favorite Dickens novel) on Broadway. It was a 6 hour play with a dinner break/intermission between the 3rd and 4th hour. We scrambled around Time Square looking for somewhere to eat and get back in time. The most fun I can remember on my birthday. My favorite book, my favorite play, my favorite guy in the greatest city in the world!

Pat Gasko says
My most memorable Birthday was actually my Mom’s birthday. I surprised her by taking her to a pre-fab home building company using some lame excuse to be there. After looking at models I found out what she liked the most and we sat down talking to a salesman and all I could say was Happy Birthday Mom this is your new home it was right on her Birthday too. Lots of hugs and tears even the salesman joined in. I still get teary eyed thinking of that day. We had that home put on the property next door to us and I was able to get the furniture and appliances (that she liked) that was in the model I purchased. She was living 50 miles away from us and was looking forward to living next door to us and having her granddaughter close by.
Sparrow says
My most memorable birthday was my ninth, which coincided with a visit from my paternal grandparents. Grandma is a great baker, and we spent the whole morning making a triple batch of penuche frosting for my cake. (I had asked for the frosting specifically, since it was my favorite at the time, but my mom was too busy with the new baby to make it, so it was extra special that I got both my wish and time with Grandma.) We slathered the frosting extra thick onto the cake and still had some leftover, so we spread it out on wax paper and froze it, then used cookie cutters to punch the frosting into hearts and stars—which I later ate just like candy.
Josiane says
My most memorable birthday was my 40th birthday. We were able to take advantage of an industry discount and cruised in Tahiti, which was gorgeous. We remember this trip and this milestone birthday fondly!

My most memorable birthday was my 33rd birthday. I gave birth to my youngest son on that day. The labor part was not my most favorite, LOL, but the little bundle at the end was the greatest present ever. He is and has been such a blessing in my life! He got married this past September, and now we have a beautiful daughter-in-law to love, as well. (Hoping someday to have little grandkid blessings running around, too.) My son Justin is the gift that keeps on giving! And I always tease him that there’s no way he can forget my birthday now!
Laura Holt says
My 50th birthday a few [clearing throat] years ago was CRAZY! Actually, my sisters were trying to convince me that since I had hit the BIG 50, my mind would soon be slipping. They had over 50 cards sent to me from all over the country by people I’d never heard of, pretending they were old friends. “I remember your wedding so well – it was beautiful!”, “We’re going on vacation in July and hope to stop by and visit for a couple of days,” “I hope you have as much fun as we all had on your 40th!”, etc. It was fun, especially after I figured out what was going on!

My favorite birthday was when we vacationed to Switzerland, the country I have always wanted to visit. It is a beautiful place, as one can tell by photos. Photos don’t do it justice, however, so I was glad I finally made it in person (that was my 59th birthday).

I will say that my most memorable birthday was my 50th. My best friend and I have birthdays three days apart and we decided to celebrate together doing something our husbands and kids would not appreciate…driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and touring Asheville, NC. It rained almost the entire time we were there but we had the best time just talking and being together. Having a best friend is one of the best gifts ever.

I’ve had many special birthdays, but for some reason the first thought I had was of my 19th. My mom and sister had flown into Boston to pick me up from my first year away at college. They had asked around and got a great recommendation for a little Italian restaurant in the North End. It was so popular the line to get in ran down the block and we had to wait over an hour. It was indeed delicious food. More than 20 years later I can still remember the homemade pumpkin ravioli with brown butter sauce. Towards the end of the meal the chefs in the kitchen began banging their pots, the lights dimmed down in the entire restaurant. The whole restaurant began singing as a server made her way though the dining room with a cake glowing with candles. I was so caught up in the moment, I joined in singing to whoever’s birthday it was. But then, the cake was set before me as every patron in the restaurant sang “Happy Birthday dear Lori”. It was only then that I realized it was all for me. My mom said the look on my face was priceless!
Renee says
While most definitely not my best or favorite birthday it is the most memorable…2001. My birthday is 9/11. And I will never forget where I was on that day or what I was doing when I heard the news.

All my birthdays when my kids were small. They insisted on serving me breakfast in bed, which, to be honest, I don’t like because usually I only eat in bed if I’m too sick to get up, so the associations are all negative. But of course I played along because so much love had gone into preparing this birthday treat for me.
Sharon D. says
My most memorable birthday was when I was 11 or 12. Most of my birthday parties were with family, & a couple of times I had a party with friends at home, but this year I got to have a roller skating party at Skateland with a bunch of friends. It was a big deal for me & I loved it!
Dawn Y. says
Each year my December birthday always feels very special! However, I think this year will be my MOST special birthday celebration of all because my parents will be here to celebrate with me! For the past 23 years, my parents have been living in the desert Southwest. Although we visit back and forth often, they don’t travel back to Illinois during the snowy winter months. This year, they will be making a big move back to our area to be close to all of us. Real birthday hugs will be SO much nicer than birthday Skypes and phone calls! Can’t wait!!

My best birthdays were the ones when I was pregnant with each of my three children. They were the best gifts I could ever get. I don’t celebrate my birthday but each one makes me reflect on my life and where I am at the time. At one time, my health and medications kept me from getting pregnant. I thought I’d never have children, ever. So those birthdays were the sweetest.

When I came in my friends house I was so excited to see the tons of people who were there, the decorations and cake. I still can’t believe all those people came for a SWEET SIXTEEN party for me! My 75th Birthday was a very memorable event! I’m never so much into surprises, and my kids know that. But when our youngest (he planned this all) took my husband and me out for supper (evening meal where we live), he didn’t say anything about a surprise. But then he took us to a house in the city where he lives, he wanted me to meet this friend of theirs. (She was not only the hostess, but also the cook). And then came the SURPRISE!! All of our other children (5) and their spouses were there. It not only was a surprise, but the meal was AWESOME, a very nice gift was given to me and it was an evening I will NEVER forget!

I’ve had many memorable birthdays, but one that is in my mind right now is when I turned 24 in 1989. It was my day to go to my 90+-year-old grandmother to check on her, and I really didn’t want to go. But I went, and my dear Grandma pulled out the schnapps, and we toasted, and she said a blessing over me, in Yiddish, and then she sang “happy birthday” in Russian, that she remembered from when she was a little girl. Over the decades I’ve often thought about that birthday, and how much she loved me and how grateful she was that I would visit every week. I miss her
