I’m not sure I have many memorable birthdays. Mine tend to be in the shadows. But I do tend to go overboard with my kids’ birthdays. My son’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Birthday was my favorite…My entire dining room was covered in candy. I replaced the wall art with candy wall art, decorated the furniture with candy, and the table was covered with dirt, marshmallow trees, airplanes, trains, lollipops, cars, rockets, and things I can’t even remember. All edible. I’ve never seen a bigger smile on a little boy’s face. He was dressed in a purple jacket with a black hat because he was Willie Wonka. We had a tasting contest with foods covered in chocolate. You had to figure out what was covered in chocolate. For the record, chocolate covered Cheetos are disgusting. We popped blueberries to get the candy out. And other fun themed activities. It was a blast both to plan and to attend.

The birthday that comes to mind was (eek – can’t believe I’m this old) 12 years ago when I was turning 50. My husband gave me a party that was more like a reception – DJ, catered food, adult beverages… and arranged with my youngest brother, Dave, to make a video about me. We had a big screen set up and we “aired” his creation. It was amazing! Even the staff that was there who didn’t know me or our family came up to me and said how impressive it was! We still play it at family gatherings. The “outtakes” he put at the end were hysterical and people were falling over with laughter. A star-filled, magical night all around!

My 35th was my favorite because it was a retro surprise party put on my by best friends. They knew how much I loved Strawberry Shortcake characters and Care Bears when I was young. So they had plates, napkins and balloons to go with the theme and someone even made me a Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake. My friends had all pitched in and bought me my first electronic die cutting machine. We spent the whole day and evening scrapbooking and having a wonderful time.

I can’t say my most memorable birthday was “special” but the one that sticks out in my mind was the one where I had to spend the day picking up the rotten apples in our orchard with my sisters and I felt I shouldn’t have to do that on THAT day because it was my birthday!

Memorable can some times be stressful. My 40th birthday my sister’s surprised me by showing up at my house for a long weekend. Yes, it was great to be together but I had to work and such and they decided to go to work with me. It was the thought that counted but it was a hard time. So glad I have family that cares enough to come see me!! Very memorable. Lol

When I was a little girl, my brothers, my mother, and I attended church services on a Sunday evening as we always did. My dad stayed home as he always did. This particular Sunday was my birthday. While we away worshipping God, my dad was home decorating for a surprise family birthday celebration for me! When we arrived home, there were balloons, decorations, and cake – all for me!! Needless to say, this is the one birthday that stands out for me.

My best birthday was the year I turned 45. My husband came home from work and my grandson told him it was Mimi’s Birthday, so where was Mimi’s Birthday Cake? My husband took him to the store and they brought home a cake and 45 candles! He helped me blow them all out and I have a couple of pictures of us doing that. Sheer Joy is the expression on both of our faces.

For the last several years my birthday has always been spent out on the soccer fields watching my kids play. Normally, that’s an activity I enjoy, however, at that time of year it’s usually nearing the end of the season and is typically cold and windy. This year, however, my birthday fell during a school break and we spent the day in Orlando! Such a nice change of pace, and so good to relax in the warmth and have fun with my family on my birthday!!

My most memorable birthday, let’s see… when you are blessed with a large family, every birthday is special. And memorable. And we seem to go overboard celebrating the decade birthdays (20, 30, 40, etc.). My 60th was my favorite. My children hired a sushi chef, and we all dressed in kimonos with my daughter’s yard turned into a Japanese garden! The kids, my friends and family were all there and we enjoyed every moment.
Yep, I’m smiling remembering. Love this month’s release. My list is long, with so many wonderful stamps and dies!

But my most memorable one, is when I walked off a plane in London, England on the morning of my birthday, and my husband was waiting there for me! We enjoyed London, Paris and Amboise, France over the next week. Never thought I’d get to travel abroad, so it was a dream come true!

My most memorable was my 18th birthday. Although I was in college a long way from home, I was near my grandmother’s home. My birthday was on Saturday that year…and I had a Saturday 8am class…which I skipped. Instead I went to my grandmother’s … and woke up to the smell of hot homemade biscuits just coming out of the oven. What a birthday breakfast treat!

The first memorable one that came to mind is when I hoped I could finish radiation for Stage 1 breast cancer by my birthday. I did not want to go for a treatment on my birthday! It worked out that I finished the day before. My darling husband had ordered me a beautiful golden leather jacket and we did not pay extra for it to come in time. On my birthday, I sat at the computer and saw a shipping notice of a 2-day window. I thought, the jacket might be on our front porch right now! I jumped up, opened our front door, and there was the package! I happily wore the jacket that night for a birthday dinner date and felt like a teenager again. The next night, despite very snowy weather, a dear friend from church threw me a birthday party at her house. All of this was so triumphant after cancer! I have been cancer-free for 10 years this month!

A few years ago my husband took me up to see the fall colors in the mountains. We drove up to the parkway stopping to take photos and ended in Asheville, NC where we stayed the weekend at a historical hotel and spa. It was the perfect weekend. Special since before we were married we’d gone camping in the mountains close to the same area around the same time of the year. We set up camp after arrival and the following morning had to pack up due to a medical emergency. Missed all the leaf viewing, plus i had to pack the camp in record time in the dark and get him to a hospital.

I had a trellis built for an enormous rose bush I have that had outgrown its anchors. When the gentlemen completed it, they wired my rose up on the trellis. It took a lot of work to do this because the plant is HUGE. They took advantage of the scaffolding they had up to do our siding. They had to wear welding gloves because this plant has wicked thorns. Most folks would have figured they built the trellis, it was my problem to figure out how to get it up there. It just happened that the day they completed it and wired it up for me was my birthday. It was so above and beyond, I literally cried when I got home and saw it. I thought I was going to have to totally cut the rose back to wire it up, but the three men did it for me without even being asked to!

My family threw me a surprise 60th birthday party, which was my first surprise party ever, and it was amazing! It was held at my daughter’s home, which is on a lake, and the day and the view were beautiful! Friends were there from high school, as well as family members who I hadn’t seen for a while. My most memorable birthday was the year I turned 50. My birthday is the day after Christmas. A dear friend of many years was taken off life support Christmas morning. After saying my goodbyes, My sister and I drove over a snowy mountain pass to my mothers house. It was so hard for me to put a smile on my face. The next day (my birthday) my family threw a surprise Hawaiian Luau in the snow! They wore floral leis and grass skirts over their sweaters and jeans. They had flown in a beautiful fresh floral lei for me. We danced and laughed which warmed my broken heart. My mom made a wonderful themed meal and had my favorite cake. It was a day I will hold in my heart forever.

My 50th birthday is by far the most memorable. My daughter planned and executed a surprise party with a Scottish theme. Haggis, Scotch Eggs, Scottish Beer, the whole nine yards. She hired a bagpiper who had just come back to the states after piping for Queen Elizabeth. The whole neighborhood got a taste of live bagpipes that night! And my dear friend flew up from Georgia to surprise me. It was without a doubt the most glorious birthday party ever!

My 60th birthday was one of the best ones as I was taken out for dinner with my husband and daughter and also my husband’s cousins, but I was unaware that my younger brother by 19 years had travelled from down south to the north of the country with his wife to give me a surprise birthday treat. My birthday is several days before Christmas and with all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it tends to get overlooked. I even forget about it (sometimes) so my most favorable birthday is my kids’ birthday parties. When they were little, we would choose a theme and have a celebration at home. Our favorite was a carnival party where we made all the games, a ticket booth, a photo shoot area, and the children played carnival games winning tickets along the way that they turned in for little prizes. We had so much fun, they wanted to recreate it for each of their birthdays.

Since the kids have grown up and left the house, we don’t do much special for our birthdays. 🙁 But I do love celebrating my kids and grandkids birthdays. Once my kids left for college, I made an effort each year to take them out to lunch on their birthdays. It’s gotten harder now, because we are spread out more, but I love celebrating them! Amazing release and projects!!
I try to make every birthday memorable, I can’t really say one year stands out more than the others. Though, I will say what makes each one so memorable for me is getting handmade cards from all my kiddos, along with their sweet little gift. <3 To this day, I still have all their cards and gifts. 🙂

The party my four girlfriends threw for my 50th bday was the best! My husband was out of town and the girls showed up at my house with food and drink, and even decorated. We had a spa day pampering each other with foot soaks, paraffin wax dips, mani/peddies, facials, sea salt scrubs, hot stone massages, and soaking in the hot tub. All followed by an old fashioned sleep over and a big breakfast the next morning. So blessed to have such awesome friends!

My parents organized a mall scavenger hunt for my 13th birthday–what could be more perfect for a bunch of teenage girls? Then Mom got pulled over for speeding on the way to the mall with all my friends in her car. Fortunately, she only got a warning, but she was totally mortified. That was a memorable one for everyone. But everyone had a great time.

My favorite birthday was many years ago when I was 13. We moved from the West Coast to the South. The morning of my birthday, we were staying in a hotel, and my mother gave me a beautiful ring. The ring was a ring that my grandfather had made for my grandmother from one of his stick pins. It was so beautiful and so thoughtful. I still cherish it today. It was the best birthday gift ever!!!

This year’s was pretty special- I finally got the job I was hoping to get permanently (not like this was actually because of the birthday, but it was pretty awesome regardless!). And then that evening, my husband and I headed to The Forks for a tasty dinner at Nuburger and we braved the elements and explored the Ice Castle that has been set up this year. It was really beautiful and a nice way to spend the evening!

My most memorable birthday was probably my 50th. I had just become a first time grandma earlier that month. My daughter was in college at the time and only learned that she was pregnant about 5 months prior to the birth so this was a “surprise” to everyone. We were all trying to adjust. But after my granddaughter arrived, we all changed gears pretty quickly since my daughter and new granddaughter were living with us. Because I was taking lots of photos (naturally), my other children (and husband) gave me a new laptop and printer for my birthday so I could print my own pictures at home. Their gift was very unexpected and generous, not to mention very much appreciated.

She was living in Atlanta and my husband and I live in Washington state. on her 30th birthday her husband gave her an evening birthday party with several of their friends including our other daughter who was visiting. We spoke to her on the phone and wished her a happy birthday. What she didn’t know was that my husband and I were flying out to surprise her. We walked up to the door and rang the bell while the party was in progress. She was so totally surprised. We all broke out in tears of joy! That was my most special birthday!

Good question, it really made me look back and think about my answer. My 60th birthday was very memorable, my sweet husband gave me a dinner party at one of our favorite restaurants. My sisters came from several states away, some good friends made the trip from other parts of the state, and of course my children were there. A happy time when lots of friends and family gathered together to celebrate, so fun!

There are not too many birthdays that I remember. Mom’s birthday is not a big event. I do remember one birthday not because of the birthday celebration but because it was cut short because my son and his daughter were broke down on the side of the road with our car. My husband had to arrange a tow truck. We met them and had the car towed to my husband’s work place.

kids. I spent as much time as I could with him. His landlord became a dear friend. One year for my birthday Al and Gary arranged a Chocolate Tour.
We went to at least 10 of the top chocolate shops in the city and bought at least a taste from every stop. It was a day I will never forget. We even made a

Lucky for me that my birthday is on Christmas so I always have family here and we celebrate the BIG day for everyone. And before you ask, NO I don’t feel that my birthday is anything less than wonderful. There is ALWAYS a party, I mean it’s Christmas lol Anyways 6 years ago, unbeknownst to me, my family planned on giving me a Surprise Party and they actually pulled it off! It was at a cool restaurant/lounge in Boston and they got me there by saying it was a Surprise Party for my daughter, my son-in-law was arranging the entire thing. So Hubby and I packed up from the Cape and made the drive in. I was mad at him as I thought he kept driving in circles (apparently stalling for time lol) and getting us lost. When I walked in I saw my Mom and all of my siblings and their spouses, my daughter and son-in-law….it took me a minute to figure out what was going on. I was totally SURPRISED! I truly was, I mean I even bought the cake and it said Happy Birthday Lori–my daughter LOL Oh they got me good! My sister even flew out from Iowa. GREAT BIRTHDAY…..but again, I think they all have been!

My most memorable birthday was my 40th. My hubby and kids planned a surprise party after Sunday church. We were in 2 cars that day, and I was leaving the parking lot with the kids to go home. They were trying to figure out how to get me to stay without giving away the surprise. Finally, a friend ran out of the building and flagged us down as I was backing out of the parking space. He made up some strange reason why I needed to come back into the fellowship hall. I had no clue or suspicion at all – they had kept a good secret! A friend picked me up but instead of taking me “home”, I was taken to a hotel where five other friends were awaiting us. It was my 8th birthday party (a very long time ago – long before jumpy houses!) and my first and last birthday party. We didn’t have much money when I was growing up which now I love, it made me appreciate the important things! Anyway, my best friend had been sick from school most of the week and wasn’t going to be able to attend. I was broken hearted but understood. The day of my party she was improved and surprised me by coming! It was my best present having her there! We played all day and she stayed for dinner. It was perfect and meant everything and is still engraved so clearly. A few days later she, along with her Mother and one of her brothers were killed in a car accident (no seat belts then). That day was easily one of my worst days. I never had another birthday party as a child because I knew nothing would top our day and feared anyone else getting hurt which of course over the years realized how unrealistic of a worry that was. I still think of her every birthday and wonder what wonders she would have contributed to this world. She had such an amazing family! Thank you for letting me celebrate her in this forum! I miss you Sherry … still. ❤️

I’ve had (at 71) lots of memorable birthdays. I think the best was the year I turned 70. I live in Ohio. Two of my four children and their families are nearby…one is in Idaho and the 4th is in Washington state. My sister’s entire family is also in Seattle. My birthday is in November. My children wanted to celebrate my 70th with a party, but we’re so scattered, and, celebrating in Ohio in November? So…they pooled their resources…flew me in July (and my two daughter’s families) to Seattle where I stayed with my son and his family for a few days…stayed with my sister & husband a few days…flew me to Idaho for a few days with that daughter’s family. I was gone for almost 2 weeks. Parties and celebrations of “me”. It was so special. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so loved or so incredibly blessed.

I have 2 most memorable birthdays. The first one when I was turning 13, I asked to go winter camping for my birthday. However, the weather was particular miserable. But my family endured it instead of going home for me. (I also did not enjoy it, not sure why I didn’t ask to go home). But looking back its fun to laugh about the craziness of it all. And the fact that I do have such a great family. The 2nd one was when I turned 30 and my now husband proposed to me then took me to a surprise birthday party.

My 50th Bday was on a Sunday and I thought we were just relaxing and watching football. However, my husband kept telling me I really should put my makeup on and fix my hair since it was my Bday. I thought it was weird, but was complying when in walked my best friend (who lived 100 miles away) and her teenage daughter! They took me to a beautiful Victorian restaurant for a champagne brunch! To this day, she thanks my husband for getting me started early, because she knew how high maintenance I was, and we never would have made it in time for brunch otherwise.

My most memorable birthday was my 21st! I was still in college and I was flying out of Portland, Oregon to go to my best friend’s wedding in San Francisco.
My parents had driven me down to fly out. The night before we met up with my aunt , uncle and cousins. They took us to the Barbary Coast Lounge at the old Hoyt
Hotel (No longer there) and Trader Vic’s in the Benson Hotel. Trader Vic’s is gone but the Benson still remains. Ah quite the memory!

We spent a day at Kennedy Space Center–then to Disney World for a couple of days. We spent time in Miami Beach and ate the best cuban food ever. We then drove to Key West and such a wonderful time–I still remember the sunsets at Mallory Square—what fun memories!!!!

My most memorable birthday was when I turned 19. My family’s home had burned down the early morning of December 31st. We had lost all of our family pets in the fire, luckily no one was home at the time. I turned 19 on January 12th and I wasn’t excited or cared to celebrate in any way. I was deeply depressed at the loss of our pets. My friends surprised me after work with a stripper of all things and a very obscene handmade cake. I was extremely shy and conservative and it was so not me, lol! However it showed how much they all cared about me and wanted to make my day extra special. I will never forget that birthday and I hold dear the caring and concern that they all felt for me.

Thinking back on this, I feel very blessed. When my siblings and I were growing up, my mom always made our birthdays special. But one of my more memorable ones was my 50th when my husband and I were camping in Colorado with my brother and his wife. They had a little party for me with a past, present and future type theme. My SIL had come up with very cool gifts to go with that theme that I still treasure today. My husband and I have always enjoyed the train and like to do cool adventures on them different places we travel. That year he surprised me with tickets on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge which was not only beautiful but so special. Colorado is a favorite place for us to go camping but that year it was extra special to me.

My most memorabe birthday was my 59th birthday. After my dad passed, my mom came to live with us for a little while. My husband aways took me to Papedeauxs for my birthday, so of course we took mom along. My dad was never one to eat in “fancy” restuarants as he called them, so this was a treat for my mom. Even though it was my birthday, they treated her like a little queen and she enjoyed it so much, which made my birthday all the more special!

My husband rented a beach house for a week in Virginia Beach (where we live) and had my whole family come in from Milwaukee to (try to) surprise me for my 50th birthday. I did find out before they all started arriving (by planes and cars, separately) but it was definitely a wonderful week spent with my parents and 2 sisters and their children and their 2 grandchildren. There were 20 of us. It was the first time I had met my 2 grandnephews (ages: 2 years old and 5 weeks old) too.

My Daddy died ten days before Christmas and three weeks before my 9th birthday. Christmas had been a somber, so I wasn’t hoping much more for my birthday. It was a normal school day. Elementary released an hour before high school as usual, and I would spend the last hour or so with my mom in the high school office where she was the secretary. When I walked in that day, I was surprised with a birthday party organized by a group of high school girls (led by one of my cousins) complete with cake, balloons, and gifts! Boy, did I need that hour of happiness!!

Just having/celebrating another birthday makes it memorable to someone who experienced a life-changing medical event in her late teens. With that in mind, the birthday my daughter first said, “Happy birthday, mama!”, still holds a special place in my heart.

As a card maker, most of my friends and family almost expect that the cards they receive from me will be handmade. They seem to enjoy the special attention and also see it as an opportunity to ask me to make cards they can gift to others. For some reason, my 50th birthday brought out the card maker in several friends. Friend #1 has never crafted a day in her life; as a matter a fact, she is repelled by all things glue, paper, and pink. Her card was pieced together with stickers, special paper, and a dab of glitter. Friend #2 has occasionally engaged in a craft or two, but her specialty is drawing. She’s fairly private about her talent and RARELY shares it with others. That year, she decided to draw a card front and used it to gift me a beautiful sentiment. Friend #3 enjoys giving beautiful cards…that she buys at a popular card shop. On my 50th birthday she took the time to replicate a handmade card by using pretty paper, pearls, and a floral embellishment. It was gorgeous! That year was special because it gave me a chance to see what it was that inspired people when it came to birthdays and celebrating a friend.

When our kids were little, I saw a quilted wall hanging that I just loved and I designed a queen size quilt based on it. After figuring all the yardages, I realized that we couldn’t possibly afford all the fabrics needed for the quilt. Unbeknownst to me, my husband told my mom to get things ordered for me. On my birthday, I opened package after package of all the different fabrics needed…and they were gifts not only from my husband and mom, but also siblings and in-laws! They got everyone one in on the action. It was the sweetest thing. I of course cried! It took three years to make the quilt, but I love it just as much today as when I designed it.

When I was little we didn’t have much extra money to spend so we rarely went out to eat, including fast food. When I was elementary age my mom took us and some school friends to mcdonald’s for my birthday party. The staff hosted games and we ate hamburgers. I thought it was the best thing in the world. I even ended up with a little inflatable grimace doll. I don’t have the doll anymore, but I still have my mom and I’m grateful for the great birthday memories.

My dear man and FIL drove 60 miles that morning to pick it up and get it back to the garage while I was out on errands. We met for our weekly Friday lunch in town and he asked how long I would be as he wanted to wash my car. “after grocery shopping I’ll hurry home” and he was waiting to see my face!

I never had a childhood birthday party and to be honest I don’t know why and I have no one left to ask but, I had my first surprise party when I turned 30. My husband and our best friends that lived two doors down planned it. I was so upset all day long because not one person called to wish me a happy birthday and my feelings had been hurt. That evening my husband and I walked over to see our friends and standing outside their door I was giving my husband “what for” because he didn’t even buy me a birthday card…..so long story short, the door opened and a whole gang of friends and family shouted happy birthday and of course let me know they heard me fussing at my husband. Turning 30 was very hard for me….don’t know why but it was the hardest age. My party was the best though!

One that sticks out across a lot of years is my 10th birthday, where a number of my neighborhood friends came over and we played typical 1950’s games and had cake of course. Birthday parties weren’t the big extravaganzas they have become, but it was fun to be the birthday girl. So long ago now, but when I was in high school my friends gave me a surprise party with the theme of classic detectives. (I loved and still love whodunnits.) it involved guessing games, and we each were given a “costume” that portrayed a famous detective. I was Miss Marple, with a grey yarn wiglet

When my daughters were 7 and 9, they decided to make me a birthday cake. They didn’t understand how to make the icing thick enough, so the icing ran down the sides to the bottom of the cake. They were so disappointed with the result, but I loved that they made the cake and it was special to me.

My most memorable birthday was my 25th. I was engaged to be married and that is the day we got our marriage license. We had to travel to my home in another state because we had to get the license in the county we were getting married in. I knew my fiancé didn’t have any extra money and I was very happy to accept that as my birthday gift! Another memorable birthday was when I turned 40. My husband arranged for my whole family to come from out of state as a surprise and then coordinated a party with his family and mine for the birthday celebration. The problem was when I was cleaning out pockets to do the laundry I accidently found in his pocket the list of who was bringing what food for the party plus my little daughter had innocently inquired where her aunt was going to sleep:-). The whole thing was very sweet and I kept my secrets too.

I had more of a problem turning 29 than I did turning 30. When I turned 29, my DH took me to NYC for the weekend to see The Life and Times of Nicholas Nickleby( my favorite Dickens novel) on Broadway. It was a 6 hour play with a dinner break/intermission between the 3rd and 4th hour. We scrambled around Time Square looking for somewhere to eat and get back in time. The most fun I can remember on my birthday. My favorite book, my favorite play, my favorite guy in the greatest city in the world!

My most memorable Birthday was actually my Mom’s birthday. I surprised her by taking her to a pre-fab home building company using some lame excuse to be there. After looking at models I found out what she liked the most and we sat down talking to a salesman and all I could say was Happy Birthday Mom this is your new home it was right on her Birthday too. Lots of hugs and tears even the salesman joined in. I still get teary eyed thinking of that day. We had that home put on the property next door to us and I was able to get the furniture and appliances (that she liked) that was in the model I purchased. She was living 50 miles away from us and was looking forward to living next door to us and having her granddaughter close by.

My most memorable birthday was my ninth, which coincided with a visit from my paternal grandparents. Grandma is a great baker, and we spent the whole morning making a triple batch of penuche frosting for my cake. (I had asked for the frosting specifically, since it was my favorite at the time, but my mom was too busy with the new baby to make it, so it was extra special that I got both my wish and time with Grandma.) We slathered the frosting extra thick onto the cake and still had some leftover, so we spread it out on wax paper and froze it, then used cookie cutters to punch the frosting into hearts and stars—which I later ate just like candy.

My 50th birthday a few [clearing throat] years ago was CRAZY! Actually, my sisters were trying to convince me that since I had hit the BIG 50, my mind would soon be slipping. They had over 50 cards sent to me from all over the country by people I’d never heard of, pretending they were old friends. “I remember your wedding so well – it was beautiful!”, “We’re going on vacation in July and hope to stop by and visit for a couple of days,” “I hope you have as much fun as we all had on your 40th!”, etc. It was fun, especially after I figured out what was going on!

I’ve had many special birthdays, but for some reason the first thought I had was of my 19th. My mom and sister had flown into Boston to pick me up from my first year away at college. They had asked around and got a great recommendation for a little Italian restaurant in the North End. It was so popular the line to get in ran down the block and we had to wait over an hour. It was indeed delicious food. More than 20 years later I can still remember the homemade pumpkin ravioli with brown butter sauce. Towards the end of the meal the chefs in the kitchen began banging their pots, the lights dimmed down in the entire restaurant. The whole restaurant began singing as a server made her way though the dining room with a cake glowing with candles. I was so caught up in the moment, I joined in singing to whoever’s birthday it was. But then, the cake was set before me as every patron in the restaurant sang “Happy Birthday dear Lori”. It was only then that I realized it was all for me. My mom said the look on my face was priceless!

But when our youngest (he planned this all) took my husband and me out for supper (evening meal where we live), he didn’t say anything about a surprise. But then he took us to a house in the city where he lives, he wanted me to meet this friend of theirs. (She was not only the hostess, but also the cook). And then came the SURPRISE!! All of our other children (5) and their spouses were there. It not only was a surprise, but the meal was AWESOME, a very nice gift was given to me and it was an evening I will NEVER forget!

I’ve had many memorable birthdays, but one that is in my mind right now is when I turned 24 in 1989. It was my day to go to my 90+-year-old grandmother to check on her, and I really didn’t want to go. But I went, and my dear Grandma pulled out the schnapps, and we toasted, and she said a blessing over me, in Yiddish, and then she sang “happy birthday” in Russian, that she remembered from when she was a little girl. Over the decades I’ve often thought about that birthday, and how much she loved me and how grateful she was that I would visit every week. I miss her

My most Memorable BIRTHDAY was a couple of weeks ago. My birthday is December 29th so with all of the holiday hustle and bustle it just seems to pass by. Not this year!!!! I meet with an amazing group of crafting friends once a month and we have a crafting weekend. A local scrapbook store sponsors it. Well this January my Husband got with 2 of my closest friends and had a surprise party at my own home and I had no clue!!!! All of my fantastic , amazing, creative friends celebrated with me! What a fabulous birthday.

My 30th was a special birthday. My friends kidnapped me and took me to the mall and bought me fun lingerie at Victoria’s Secret, then blindfolded me and drove around for what felt like forever until we ended up at a beautiful park in town. A bunch of my friends and kids from the youth group were all gathered there. My friend’s mom made 2 great cakes, one was a teddy bear shape. We played Chicken Volleyball, my favorite youth group game. (A raw chicken that you fling across the net using garbage bags!)

I came from a big family so I got very few birthday parties just for me. I have 3 brothers who also have birthdays within 2-3 days apart from mine. When I was in 2nd grade I got to have girls from school come for my very own party. It was such fun. When I was in college I shared a cake with my 3 brothers with all our names on it. Most memorable birthday was when I was about 55. My husband took the whole family out to dinner at a local Italian restaurant. My granddaughter was about five at the time and always wanted to buy everything for my birthday. Hubby told her ahead of time we were not going to order a cake because we already had one and they cost more money at the restaurant. Later the waitress asked if we wanted anything else and my granddaughter said she wanted a cake but they cost money and she couldn’t get one. The waitress smiled and brought me a small bowl of whipped cream with a candle in it.That made my granddaughter happy that I got to blow out the candle. That was special that she wanted my birthday to be the best!
