The lazy days of summer are fast approaching….time spent outdoors, soaking up as much of nature as we can. Whether vacationing, camping, picnicing in the park or even just playing in the front yard, these are glorious days when food tastes better when eaten outside and flip flops are the shoe of choice…..if shoes must be worn at all.
Melissa Bickford has provided us with a wonderful tribute to summer's favorite footwear! Flipping Out is a fun and summery set that features a variety of patterned flip flops and fun sentiments. The Details:

Now that I've made all of the formal introductions, let's get onto the projects!
My first project mixes up all kinds of fun bright colors and even features a bit of inspiration from the fringed edge of a beach towel!
I started by die-cutting several flip flops from white cardstock. I stamped each of them with various flip flop patterns using NEW! Soft Stone ink. I then die-cut several flip flop thongs from white cardstock as well and stamped them with Winter Wisteria, Blueberry Sky, Summer Sunrise, Raspberry Fizz & New Leaf inks.
I also die-cut five of the the flowers and stamped them with the coordinating image from Flipping Out using the same variety of ink colors. Each flower was matched up with its coordinating flip flop thong. The flowers were finished in the centers with rhinestones.
The Hawaiian Shores background was impressed with the Simple Stripes Impression Plate. To give it more of a worn, weathered driftwood look, I swiped the edges with Fresh Snow ink. I created a separate sentiment strip from Hawaiian Shores and heat embossed the sentiment with White Filigree Embossing Powder.
At the edge of the sentiment strip, I pierced five holes and threaded them with floss in colors that coordinated with the color scheme I used on the flip flops. I knotted each strand to help it stay in place. I got inspired to do this from the fringe that can be found on the edge of beach towels.
All of this was adhered to an Aqua Mist card base.
My next project is soft & soothing, featuring a neutral, monochromatic color scheme.
I die-cut the flip flops from Kraft cardstock and stamped them with the rustic barn board image from the new background set we are introducing this month (more details in a few days!). I also added the flower from Flipping Out at the heel of each flip flop using Vintage Cream ink.
I cut a small slit at the top of each flip flop and threaded it with 1/8" silk ribbon to imitate a real straps.
The sentiment was stamped with Dark Chocolate ink onto a strip of Classic Kraft cardstock.
To build my card front, I started with a block of Vintage Cream cardstock that I had impressed with the new Simple Stripes Impression Plate. I then took a pattern from the Fine Linen Pattern Pack (bitty dot), and cut it slightly smaller than the Vintage Cream block. I die-cut a circle from the top half of it and tore the bottom edge. I love how the texture create on the Vintage Cream layer pops through that opening.
This bright and festive card is perfect for so many different occasions! I stamped several different patterns of flip flops in a variety of colors onto white cardstock. I went back in and stamped all of the flip flop thongs in alternating colors. The finished results are just design perfection!
I die-cut Classic Kraft cardstock with the new Rounded Label die and stamped the sentiment from Flipping Out using True Black ink. I also edged the label with Fresh Snow ink. Rather than use ribbon, I punched several small squares from a variety of cardstock & papers and assembled a border.
Everything was adhered to a Simply Chartreuse card base.
This card is intended to be a bit more masculine.
I created a background by pulling out the Birthday Bash Sentiments set and using all the sentiments in a collage sort of way. The Charcoal Palette ink has a unique look on the Classic Kraft cardstock.
I stamped the striped flip flops onto Canyon Clay cardstock using Canyon Clay ink, using Dark Chocolate ink for the flip flop thongs. I added the sentiment by heat embossing it with White Filigree Embossing Powder. I also added one small star die-cut with the Super Stars border. It is cut from Summer Sunrise Pattern Pack (stripes) paper.
A Smokey Shadow card base completed the look.
For my last project, I wanted to create a simple card with a nice crisp white card base.
I stamped the flip flops to appear as though they were "walking" up the card. I stamped the flip flops in New Leaf and the flip flop thongs in Orange Zest. I also colored in the polka dots with a Summer Sunrise Copic Marker.
I folded up the edge of the card front and lined the back of the cover with Summer Sunrise Pattern Pack (bitty dot) paper. I "held" the corner in place with a stitched Orange Zest button. The sentiment (from Fillable Frames Sentiments, more about this later in the week) was added to the interior corner with Orange Zest ink.
