Dawn McVey is one of the hippest paper crafters around and since she has begun translating that style into stamp design, all of you have embraced her with open arms! This month Dawn is introducing a fresh & funky set entitled Mod Squad! A fun mix of background building pieces and stylish images that will allow you to create projects with a hip flair!

Dawn has been a BUSY woman this week, posting samples using her new set. She covered so many of the beautiful basics you can create with Mod Squad, so I thought I would start out with a little something different I developed with it.

There are two teardrop images in this set, one solid and one outlined. While I was playing around on some scratch paper with them, I found that they looked stunning when stamped in a medallion formation, hence the name of my card collection above, Mod Medallions.

To begin, I discovered that the teardrops will fit perfectly and evenly if you use a 1-3/8" circle as a guide. Since I knew I wanted to mass product these cards in several different colors today (and in the future), I developed a quick little template that ensures that the medallion comes out in the same position on every card cover. I've provided a copy of it above as a free download, making it SO easy for you to replicate these!
The template is designed to be 4-1/4" square to coordinate with the 4-1/4" square card covers. I cut all of my card covers from Rustic Cream cardstock. I placed the template on top of each cover and traced the circle opening with pencil.
The teardrops have a top and bottom (it's hard to tell, but it does make a difference in the final product). You want to make sure the "fatter" end is facing inwards towards the center of the circle. You want to start with the solid teardrop. When you stamp them, match up the inner border with the pencil line.
The second petal gets stamped directly across from the first.
Two more are added perpendicular to the first two, forming almost a cross of sorts.
Then just fill in between. If you just keep an eye out to be sure that you line that first inner border on the pencil line each time, it will turn out perfectly every time!
The second layer of the medallion uses the outline teardrop. This is added in between all the petals of the first layer.

Once you erase your pencil line, add a sentiment (Mega Mixed Messages) and a button, you have a quick and simple card ready to be mass produced for gifts or your own collection. These cards are SO incredibly fun to make! I hope with the detailed steps I provided today you will give them a try! They're just fabulous! What color do you think you would try first?

This card is very different from the first. I love the bold color scheme and think it is a great gender neutral design that can be used for many different occasions just by swapping out the sentiment.
Here is the background I stamped before making it into a card. I used True Black ink on Smokey Shadow cardstock. I love these colors together and will definitely be using them together again soon!
Since this card is so simple, I thought it would be a nice touch to create the entire card base from the pattern I stamped. It certainly makes the back look a bit more polished and finished! Quick, simple & easy!

This one is very girly and a bit more involved, but I am totally head over heels in love with it!!! Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst and Berry Sorbet! Gotta love *the pinks*.
I love, LOVE, love the background pattern image Dawn included in this set. It groups two rows of four teardrops so that you can cover a lot of area quickly. I think it looks especially pretty when stamped on kraft with either white or cream ink, like I did here!
The stem grouping image is stamped repeatedly and the "flowers" are punched
1/2-inch circles. Some of them are stamped with the smallest dots from
Polka Dot Basics II, while the other are stamped with a star image from
Mod Squad. All of which are stamped in Vintage Cream. Small adhesive
pearls were added to the center of each polka-dotted flower and the
star-centered flowers were raised with foam dots. Sentiment is from
Mega Mixed Messages. Admit it! You are just DYING to make one of these beauties now, aren't you! *wink*

This last card is simple, but oh so stylish. Polka Dot Basics II stamped with Fresh Snow ink makes up the pattern on the right. The left uses a pieced striped pattern that I created myself.
I cut 1/2-inch & 1/4-inch strips of spring moss, ocean tides & ripe avocado cardstocks. I covered a white cardstock scrap with ScorTape and adhered the strips in place, making sure they extended over both edges. When I was done I was able to flip the piece over and trim all of the ends cleanly along the edge of the white cardstock base.
The mod flower cluster was stamped with Ocean Tides & Ripe Avocado. I added small rhinestones to each of the white spaces in the blooms as an extra special accent. Love how this turned out and I have someone special in mind to send it too!
