The products I am about to introduce you to today hold a very special place in my heart. Several months ago it occurred to me what an incredible blank canvas plastic hinged easter eggs are. I wondered if there could be a way to make them elegant and versatile in the papercrafting world. And that is how the idea of our Just Hatched stamp set & box came to life.
THE BOX:
This little box may look simple, but it has several attributes that make it a joy to work with. It is made out of a very sturdy chipboard which is covered in a high quality matte white paper. The box is white even on the interior so it is easy to maintain true color when painting it. The matte white covering also gives you the ability to stamp directly on the surface with out any preparation work.
The box has a simple insert that has holes for six eggs. It is a sturdy insert that can handle quite a bit of weight. The insert is designed so that it is very easy to cover with designer paper as well. The box measures about 4×6 inches and 3.5 inches tall. The insert is removable for even more possibilities. The box will be priced at only $4each, and of course, available exclusively from Papertrey Ink.
Easter is obviously something that comes to mind first when thinking of what exactly to do with this box. But what about babies? To begin my project for today, I painted my box pink. I was very careful to paint the outside and the top rim only. The matte surface of the box takes the paint beautifully!
I just adore lined boxes. They have such a boutique feel. I decided to line my egg box with custom stamped designer paper that I created with Beautiful Blooms. The easiest way I discovered was to cut pieces of paper for each individual side. I have included measurements below so it will take all the guess-work out when you line your own box…
BOX BOTTOM LINING:
- 2) 6 x 3-1/4 inches (long sides)
- 2) 4-3/16 x 3-1/4 inches (short sides)
LID LINING:
- 1) 6-1/4 x 4-3/8 inches (top)
- 2) 6-1/4 x 1-15/16 inches (long sides)
- 2) 4-3/8 x 1-15/16 inches (short sides)
To finish off the box, I added a strip of the same patterned paper I created for the lining, to the outside cover. I pierced holes along either side of the strip and followed up with a pink marker to achieve faux stitching. I also adhered the ribbon and label.
I continued the patterned paper strip and ribbon down the sides of the box as well.
THE STAMPS:
With the concept of this box came the idea for our Just Hatched stamp set. This set contains images that make it easy to turn this box into the perfect gift. This is one of three label images in the Just Hatched stamp set. It reads "Half-Dozen Gifts Hatched Just For You, Little One". The labels from this set coordinate with the Nestabilties Oval Dies perfectly!
I knew that I wanted to put an itty-bitty pair of baby socks into each egg. I rolled them up tightly and tucked a pair into each of six eggs.
To give the plastic eggs a little pizazz, I decided to add ribbon. The ribbon needs to be about 10-inches long for each egg. Lay the ribbon out flat, apply a glue dot to the bottom point and top point of the egg. Adhere the bottom of the egg to the center of the ribbon strip.
Pull the ends of the ribbon up and around the egg and knot it into place on top of the egg. The two glue dots on either end will prevent the ribbon from sliding off!
Once I assembled everything together, the ensemble looked like this…
I am just in LOVE with this box. The way that the insert holds the eggs perfectly in place is such a STUNNING presentation! After showing the Just Hatched Egg Box & stamp set to our Design Team, they came up with a plethora of uses that aren’t necessarily geared towards eggs, or Easter for that matter! I thought I would share some of their ideas with you BEFORE the reveal on February 15th. Somewhat of a sneak peek at what is to come. Instructions & supply lists will be available for ALL of these project in the Ink Pad gallery after the reveal!
Lauren Meader designed this box with candy filled "carrots" made from disposable frosting bags! She raised the box insert to the top edge of the box to allow room for the carrots. They look as though they are being pulled from the ground when you remove one! How much fun would that be for kids! (Well, adults too, for that matter!)
Heather Nichols Created this vintage findings box. It is the perfect gift for a crafting friend year-round.
She was able to use the insert holes to keep the spools of vintage trims in place!
Jennifer Ellefson created a special Easter box for a teacher. (Take note of the special border along the edge of the box that uses stamps from the set that read "Just a little something" and "For an eggstra special teacher").
The eggs are filled with all kinds of fun desk supplies that will help get them through the last half of the school year! A gift card to an office supply store could be attache to the inside of the cover to continue the theme and support your child’s classroom!
Taylor VanBruggen took a really simple approach to the outside of her box. I just LOVE the way she used the ribbon!
She discovered that the holes in the box insert were the perfect size for miniature cupcakes! Imagine bringing a box like this to a friend or co-worker! They would be so impressed!
Lynn Mercurio made this colorful box. She utilized all the wonderful colors in the ribbon she chose to decorate the box. They are all wonderful "spring" colors!
I am in love with the way she decorated the eggs inside with ric-rac & primas! They are almost too pretty to open!
Becky Oehlers took a nature based approach to her box, coinciding with the Spring Garden label included in the Just Hatched stamp set.
She used real eggshells to create a gift of a spring garden for someone special. The best part? The recipient can plant the flower & eggshell directly into the ground. The eggshell will provide additional nutrition to get the plant established!
Geny Cassady created another version of a baby box with lots of assorted necessities, like washcloths, pacifiers, nail clippers, etc. It is a wonderful gift that you can make in advance and will be very useful (and pretty to look at) for any new mother! I love the way she added little buttons on either side of the label. Such an adorable touch!
Amy Rysavy gave "Spring Garden" new meaning with eggs full of Primas! Such a fun gift to give to a favorite stamping buddy! We all know you can never have enough Primas!
Debbie Olson worked her usual magic with combining several patterned papers elegantly together when altering her box. The colors are so fresh and "springy"!
Last but not least, Lisa Johnson created this masterpiece. As a special treat to you, Lisa will be sharing some fun details about the contents of her box and a project idea with you on Tuesday in a tutorial feature on her blog!

Omygosh, this is an amazing idea. I can alread think of a dozen applications. But the first for a friend would be to take those little biodegradable brown cups you use for starting plants. They might be nice for displaying hand made/decorated candles or small enough clear top tins with coffee, tea, little pots of jam, spices, whatever. ..Im away to rack my brain for more ideas.
Karleen says
Oh my these are just adorable. My Ukranian eggs I make would look awesome in there!!
Mary says
I LOVE the baby gift idea… JUST ADORABLE! Your Design Team is FABULOUS, and what a great price for the box! My mind is stuck only on pinks and blues as I quickly post to join the THOUSANDS of others entering the drawing, but I look forward to coming up with other applications… I am sure the stamp set will also inspire me. Have you considered a Papertrey payment installment plan?!?! 🙂

Another wonderful idea from the ladies at PTI. As I looked at this, I thought, ‘what a great way to package a house warming gift for a new neighbor’. A space for a gift card for a local restaurant, maybe another card for the movie theater, a slot for a town map, a homemade card for a free night of baby-sitting (so the new neighbors can go to the movie), etc. So many possibilities!
Jen M says
Love the teacher box and the garden one is just sooooo clever…I can see giving little vegetable plants to friends for thier gardens…
Barb W says
Wow, absolutely awesome!!!! All of the fantastic ideas. I have to admit if I had just seen ‘the box’ in a store, I would of passed it up as I’m not one to think outside the box, but now, I want it!!!! I love the Spring Garden and know I am going to make one for my SIL. I will be putting herbs in each as we are both into recipes and using fresh herbs. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!

I am stunned by every one of the ideas that your designers created. Who would have thought that such a simple box could produce such elegant and fun results. I really love your idea though of the baby socks in the eggs. That is something that I would love to give as a baby gift. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of those boxes. Your ideas are just fantastic as always.

I need a special gift for a friend having a baby and it’s been years since I’ve had to come up with a baby gift. I’m wondering if six tees will roll up and fit into the holes (without the eggs). Can’t wait until the 15th to order.

Guess I’ll be ordering several boxes. God bless. Linda

As a vegan family, I am always trying to find new and unique ways to celebrate the traditions of Easter with our children while respecting our beliefs.
While the bright plastic eggs in the store are just fine, these boxes with openings in the right size are an elegant way to present a fun gift.
I look forward to being able to bring a new way of celebration into our family with these boxes. For people who don’t eat eggs at an egg filled Holiday, I have to say
THANK YOU!!!!
Angie says
I love these little boxes. They seem like the perfect size for a little thank you gift when someone invites you over to their home! My friends and I used to get together for movie nights and we would rotate who hosted. I would decorate the box for our movie night and inside, instead of the typical popcorn and candy, the little “egg holder” could be used to hold mini liquor bottles! Our movie nights were our miniature “ladies night out” afterall!
Virginia says

The reason for this is that I just became an aunt again for the 8th time on Feb. 1st. I have a new nephew. His name is Shepherd Paton (pronounced Payton). He is the most handsome and darling baby. So, I would use the box to stuff plastic eggs with socks and/or other tiny baby things as a gift to my new nephew, Shepherd.

What a lovely idea. I’m always looking for a nice, quality, sturdy box to decorate. I love the baby idea – but I have to say that the mini cupcakes would be my cup of tea…speaking of tea… You could fill each miniature egg with loose leaf tea and decorate it with a tea theme for a special friend… My mind’s already churning!
Nancy says
OMG – these are wonderful! I must try to try ALL of these eventually, but the first two are likely to be the baby socks eggs and the garden plant eggs ideas. These are drop dead FANTASTIC! Thanks for the inspiration!

Staci M. says
Thud! Another INCREDIBLE idea from you & the whole team! I can’t pick a fave – they just kept blowing me away. Was also thinking they could be fun to present a gift of votive candles in small glass holders…or on it’s side as a diorama box for grade school memories – K-5 is ours, so this would work perfectly for a photo of each grade behind the circular openings & covered with “school images” and 3-D memorabilia, like in a shadow box. Would be cute up on display on a shelf. There are MANY possibilities here!
Nicole says
These boxes are adorable! Just wondering how you keep the flowers alive in the box?

These are FABULOUS! I think my favorite has to be Rebecca’s…I love the fact that she used real eggshells, and had live plants…that’s totally AWESOME, though I’m Mrs. Black-thumbs, so I wouldn’t be able to replicate it. It’s hard for me to say what I’d do with it, since I have to have my hands on it first, sometimes it’s hard to judge the size until you see it IRL, though it’s comparison to the baby sock helps! All of the DT had AWESOME ideas…I love each and every one for different reasons. Thanks for giving us a peek!
Lisa Cox says
This is GREAT!!! I LOVE all the ideas you all have for the box:)
I know what I would do. My Hubby LOVES those eggs by Cadbury you get at Easter. I would make a box just for him with those eggs inside. That would make a great Easter gift for him.

When I saw Becky’s box the first thing that came to my mind was to make an herb garden out of it. I obviously don’t have the box to play with but I think it would make a really cute house warming gift with little terra cot pots with basil, rosemary etc.

I also love the cupcake idea!
Judy S. says
I LOVE the idea of the baby socks, and the adorable carrots are definitely going to be CASE’d by me! I’m also thinking of using it for my daughter – putting little pieces of inexpensive jewelry in each one on a cloud of cotton and then having her use the box for a jewelry box.

I was thinking that the holes might fit spice jars and would make a great gift for a bride or friend who loves cooking! Also, maybe pinkhedgehog’s eyelet jars would fit nicely and make a fun and colorful present for a fellow crafter. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these great boxes and that darling stamp set!!!

I personally would use it to wrap up a 6 pack of those onesies you taught us to stamp…that has become my defacto Baby Gift and with 4 friends all due in March…I could really use it!!!

Oh my gosh, I can’t belive how amazing each and every one of these ideas is! I love them all. If I had to choose just one, I think it would be the baby socks, though I can see myself putting other things in some of the eggs: Tiny nail clippers, those adorable velcro baby hair bows, a little elastic headband . . . anything tiny enough to fit. I also think it would be really cute if you didn’t use the eggs at all but rolled up six cute little onesies and stuck one in each of the holes in place of the eggs.
I just found your company tonight . . . I think I may be in love.

Great boxes. I love the baby socks gift idea the most. I think these boxes would also be great for gifting 6 handmade ornaments as well. And of course, embellish with ribbon and rhinestones.

I love the spring garden box and the teacher’s gift box. I would make a similar gift box with an Asian theme. I would use the spiral bouquet set or the cherry blossom branch from the Out on a Limb set to stamp make the liner for the box. Using the Spring Garden box as inspiration, you could fill one egg with a small “lucky bamboo” plant in rocks. You could fill the remaining eggs with Chinese or Japanese candy, fortune cookie, Jasmine or green tea bag, a silk handkerchief, a small sandalwood soap bar, or a packet of Cherry Blossom hand lotion.

Wow Nichole! Way to think *inside* the box!!! I love all the possibilities. I think my fave might be the mini muffins or cupcakes.

I had another flash this morning, as I as dressing up for work: how about using the eggs for jewelry? They’d be perfect for a matching set of earrings with a necklace or costume jewelry for children.
They’d also be perfect for a kids’ birthday, where each guest could pick an egg before leaving the party, as a party favour.
You could also use it if you’re having a workshop or a contest of some sort: everyone that buys for $XX or does whatever gets to pick an egg, with a surprise inside (embellishments, rebate coupon, ribbon, etc.).
So many possibilities!!!!

I am excited about these egg boxes. I think the idea of including scripture in them- like resurrection eggs is great. I LOVE the baby socks! I also like the idea of an adult version of an “easter basket” with different candy in each egg. The stamp set is beautiful that goes with it!

*LOVE* the garden in a box! My second fave is the eggs with the baby socks.
I think making a “boy” box with shades of blue and green eggs, each concealing a Hot Wheels car would be really cool. (And heaven knows…the boys would then use the box and probably the eggs too, to store other “…little treasures…”
Jamie says
I love the Cupcake Idea. All of the boxes are beautiful!

It’s tough for a stamper of nearly 20 years to see something that is a must have that I don’t have. This is pricless. Do baby food jars fit in the holes. Just think of all the things that can go in here. Can’t wait for more!!!

Wow! Great boxes! I love the baby socks and the school/desk supplies the most. I would not have thought to do either of those ideas on my own. My brother-in-law and his wife are expecting their first child in May, I hope to give the baby socks a try. I think that they would love the box as well as the contents.
Jana says
I see it’s too late for the contest, but I think these would be great easter gifts for my nephew and neice. It would be fun to make a boy/masculine version with his favorite action hero (Spiderman) and add some candy/mini action heros to each of the egg spots.
DT those are beautiful boxes!!!
Annette Johnson says
Wow, these are fantastic! I love all the ways the box was used but I love the baby booties and the one with the carrots. I’m going to have to use both of these ideas.

I love them all !! You could also put small vases in the holes, and have fresh flowers, or just water in the vases to start an Ivy or some other kind of vine plant….
