Have I ever told you that I have this ribbon theory? I’ve got one of the biggest ribbon collections around, and my GIGANTIC weakness is patterned ribbon. Whether it be stripes, polka dots, florals or ginghams, I love it all. My theory is that ribbon can help anyone out of a color rut. I felt like I had done a lot of blue & green projects lately and that I needed to branch out. So I dug through my ribbon stash and this particular striped version from American Crafts stood out to me. I broke down the colors in the ribbon (Cool Caribbean, Really Rust & So Saffron) and decide to combine them to stamp patterned paper. These are colors I NEVER would have combined if it weren’t for my ribbon theory! One other tip I would like to add is when you are creating an accent for a project, be sure to carry through your entire color combination to the end. Notice I didn’t stop with just saffron cardstock stamped with a rust sentiment. I added the Caribbean blue star and a rust brad to finish it off. When you carry all of your colors through to the end like this, it helps make for a more polished, put together finished product.
The template for this box is one passed out a SU! convention eons ago, and I am sure several of you already have it, but I thought I would pass it on for those of you who don’t. It is made from a 4×8-inch rectangle with a few simple score lines. You’ll love how easy it is if you haven’t tried your hand at it yet. Also, it’s fun to make gift packaging triangular, rather than the traditional square!

I know that this is a day late and if that disqualifies me I will still continue to comment because I LOVE your work.
Fabulous, as always! Ribbon is my big downfall…I have TONS of it!!!
This box is so fun! Now I just need an excuse to make it…
First time visit through Thinking Inking. For all who might remember May Baskets, this project would be perfect for tucking candy into and hanging on the door of someone special. That was a ritual that finally signalled that Spring might be coming in Maine. If anyone has fond memories of this tradition, I would love to hear from you.
Love this color combo!
fun, fun project! Darling!
love the font used for this stamp set! Simply Classy.
What a great idea! This would make a great project for my workshop next week that can be used for Easter gift ideas. Thanks for sharing your work with us!
Great theory–now I just need to get over my problem of actually USING my ribbon stash!

Yes, the ribbon sure sets off the other more subtle colors.

Can’t wait to try this one myself! Very cute and great ribbon!
Love the color combinations, and the ribbon I must havE!!!!
I love this project. I’ve made many of these triangle boxes and didn’t know you were the one who created the template for them. I especially love the color combo and the way you decorated this one. I too would have never thought to put these colors together, but they look absolutely perfect together. The dots and stripes are the perfect compliment to each other. You are so talented, thanks for sharing your projects with all of us.
Thanks for the template! And I never thought to use the ribbon to determine colors–I usually go the other direction–card to ribbon…
I like the idea of using the ribbon as a basis instead of trying to match a ribbon to a project. Thanks for the tip and for the template!
Another cute idea. I think I can do this…haha!
Love the colors on that ribbon! a great idea for when you are stumped for a color combo and who doesn’t like fun ribbons?!!
I reallly really appreciate all the little stamping tips you’re giving us (ie your ribbon theory) – will these continue after your contest is over? (I’m hoping!!)
