Project Inspiration: Happy Birthday Card by Melissa Phillips

June 25, 2026      Winnie Cate Ignacio      5 Comments

Melissa Phillips combines soft color, delicate texture, and elegant florals in this beautiful Happy Birthday card designed to make someone feel truly special. 🌸✨ Featuring the intricate Cover Plate: Lush Foliage as a layered background, Melissa creates a dreamy garden-inspired design accented with Into the Blooms: Wild Wood flowers, a vellum scalloped layer, and a graceful seam binding bow. Gentle ink blending, subtle splatters, and touches of sparkle add depth and charm, while the bold birthday sentiment takes center stage for a card that feels both heartfelt and refined.

Melissa shares, “Into the Blooms: Wild Wood blooms and our Cover Plate: Lush Foliage dies create the perfect backdrop for many different occasions. All you need to do is swap out the sentiment and change your color scheme if you’d like. I’ve chosen to create a soft, feminine birthday card for someone special.”

Hi Winnie, I just wanted to say how much I love your beautiful card. I am new to crafting (and papertrey) and it’s the beautiful soft watercolour effects and the lovely layering that I love so much.
I am just starting my collection of products and seeing beautiful designs like yours inspires me, so thank you so much for sharing such a detailed description of how you created your card. Lastly, please may I ask one question, when you mentioned that you sponged on the color to the background, is that using the reinkers or watercolour paint? Is it quite watered down as I’m not sure how to do that part (sorry to ask what might be obvious).
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my message.
Wishing you a lovely day 💐
    Donna
