Soft color, layered details, and elegant foiling come together beautifully on today’s butterfly-inspired card design. 🦋 Kelly Lunceford combines the delicate Build-a-Butterfly dies with clusters of flowers from Into the Blooms: Bag of Blossoms and Build-a-Bouquet to create a dimensional focal point full of texture and charm. The turquoise foiled background adds a bold decorative touch, while soft ink blending and glitter accents keep the design light and airy. Finished with the sweet sentiment from The Sweetest Bunch, this project is a lovely example of mixing florals, foil, and layered die cuts for a truly eye-catching card.
STEP 1: Foil a panel of Mint Julep cardstock using turquoise foil. Trim and add Mint Julep ink around the edges using a blender brush.
STEP 2: Attach foiled panel to a piece of Tropical Teal cardstock and then add to a top-folding A2 card base using foam squares.
STEP 3: Cut a mat from white cardstock using the Love to Layer: Top Notch Die. Attach it to the foiled panel using foam squares.
STEP 4: Cut both pieces for the butterfly. Add stenciling to the bottom layer using Mint Julep ink. Cut the body and color it with the same ink. Glue the butterfly together and attach to the mat using foam squares in the middle and bend the wings upwards.
STEP 5: Cut and color all of the flowers and arrange them on the butterfly.
STEP 6: Add foliage around the butterfly.
STEP 7: Add the sentiment to the top of the card using foam squares.
STEP 8: Add glitter to the flowers and leaves, as well as a trio of sparkling clear sequence to the background.
From the shimmering foiled background to the dimensional butterfly wings and floral accents, this project is filled with details that make it feel extra special. ✨ Kelly’s combination of soft florals, layered greenery, and delicate sparkle creates a card that feels both elegant and uplifting.
Whether you’re inspired by the butterfly focal point, the bright color palette, or the intricate layering, this design offers plenty of ideas to try on your own handmade cards.
