Project Inspiration: Happy Halloween by Brenda Noelke

A Butterfly and Lemon Blossom Birthday

July 17, 2025      Bobbi Lemanski      Leave a Comment

Hello friends of Papertrey Ink! It’s Bobbi here with a very sweet, but “tart” card. This one has the sweetness of a butterfly and the tartness of some bright and bold lemons! My card features these new products from Papertey Ink:

Build a Butterfly Dies

Into the Blooms: Lemon Blossom Dies

Blooming Bouquets stamps and coordinating dies

North Pole Mail: Postage Stamp Frame dies

To create this 5″ X 7″ card, I started with a white card base made from Stamper’s Select white cardstock. I splattered a little black watercolor paint over the front. I added some sweet gingham paper to the sides by cutting the scallop using the North Pole Mail: Postage Stamp Frame dies. This frame die has the sweetest scalloped edge. I cut the edges off and used them on both the left and right sides of my card. I did have to seam the sides since my 7″ height was more than the frame height. The seams are barely noticeable.

For the front of the card, I die cut the butterfly, hydrangeas (from the Build a Butterfly Dies) and the lemon blossoms from Stamper’s Select white cardstock. The lemons were cut from of course, Lemon Tart cardstock! The lemon leaves were cut from Ripe Avocado cardstock.  The butterfly body was cut from True Black cardstock. For the butterfly wings, I blended Distress Oxide ink in Carved Pumpkin and Picked Raspberry to make the bright and beautiful. I assembled the butterfly. For the lemon blossoms, I used Picked Raspberry on the petals and Y19 Copic Marker on the stamens. Note: The stamens could also be die cut from Summer Sunrise cardstock to achieve the same look. These colors are fabulous together! I blended ink on the lemons to make them more dimensional and realistic. I used Distress Oxide ink in Mustard Seed and Squeezed Lemonade for a blended look. The bottoms were darker to create a more rounded appearance. I used a fine-tip black marker to add specks/ texture to the lemon’s skin/peel.

I assembled the front elements into a pleasing and balanced design and completed the front with a sentiment stamped in True Black ink on white cardstock. I used the Blooming Bouquets stamps and coordinating dies for the sentiment.
