SUPPLIES
STAMPS: This is Big Sentiments: Thinking of You
DIES: This is Big Sentiments: Thinking of You dies, Into the Blooms: Coneflowers, Love to Layer: Playful Scallops
STENCILS: Hearts & Stripes Stencil Collection
INK: Dark Chocolate
CARDSTOCK: Stamper’s Select White
OTHER: White Gelly Roll Pen, Black Fine-Tip Black Marker, Foam Tabs, Distress Oxide Ink in Candied Apple, Copic Sketch Markers – W3, W2 and W1 for shadowing, Bee Creative Precision Glue
TIPS:
- Use the Hearts and Stencil Collection to create even more creative backgrounds. For this card: Stencil the hearts in red and add little leaves at the top (I used Copic Markers – YG03 and YG67) to make sweet flowers. Add a shadow below the hearts to make them stand out from the white background. I used a Copic W3 marker. Using a fine-tip black marker, add dots around them for a whimsical touch.
- For the coneflower brown centers, use both a black fine-tip marker and a white Gelly Roll pen to add simple lines for more interest and texture.
- To make the coneflowers more realistic, vary the amount of ink blended on to the petals for each layer. This adds visual interest and more depth to the petals. One this card, the top petal layers are lighter than the bottom layers.
- Add more layers! For the coneflowers, you can add additional layers for more thickness and color variation by simply alternating the position of identical layers to the left or right.

TIPS:
- Check your stash; maybe a background you already have will look great peeking out of the butterfly die cut panel.
- If you’re ink-blending a background, check how it looks peeking out from behind the butterflies every so often to see if the color variation is showing through.
- Lift the butterfly wings away from the background for easy dimension that still lies flat for mailing.
