Celebrate the True Reason for the Season with Handmade Christmas Tags
It’s never too early to start crafting for the holidays, especially when it comes to creating heartfelt, handmade Christmas tags.
This project, by Kelley Lunceford (Follow her on Instagram), combines stunning dies, beautiful sentiments, and festive embellishments to celebrate the true meaning of the season. With a mix of Winter Globe Sentiments, Heaven and Nature Sing, and more, this tag set is a perfect addition to your holiday crafting list.
Follow along as we show you how to bring these elegant tags to life step by step!
Note: A full list of supplies and links are available at the bottom of the post.
Step One: Cut and Color the Foliage
Using the Into the Blooms: Christmas Sprigs and Into the Blooms: Mushrooms Dies, cut your foliage from white, Kraft, and antique gold cardstock. Add depth and texture with Distress Oxide inks, giving the greenery a lifelike feel.
Step Two: Die Cut Mangers and Stars
Die cut the mangers and stars using the Reflections: October Dies. Add Cocoa Bean ink to the manger pieces for added dimension and rustic charm.
Step Three: Prepare the Arches and Sentiments
Die cut the arches from Love to Layer: Arches dies using white and Rustic Cream cardstock. Stamp sentiments from Just Sentiments: He Is Born and The Bigs Christmas Sentiments in True Black ink for crisp, bold lettering that stands out.
Note: If our Arches die is out of stock (it’s popular), you can also use Love to Layer: Circular Postage Die, or Love to Layer: Decorative Bracket Die
Step Four: Assemble Mangers and Stars
Use foam squares to give your stars and mangers a dimensional look and liquid glue for secure placement. This step adds depth to your design, making the layers pop.
Step Five: Arrange the Greenery
Layer your colored foliage around the arches, creating a natural and balanced frame. Use liquid glue for smaller pieces and foam squares for larger sprigs to give the greenery a multidimensional feel.
Alternate foliage options are: Festive Mailbox Die (which includes sprigs as well as a cute mailbox that is perfect for a more secular tag option). Or our Rustic Wood Star Die (another one that includes sprigs as well as a star that would make a perfect tag option).
Step Six: Add Final Details
Stamp a Holly Berry image on each tag with Pure Poppy Ink, punch holes at the top, and thread them with Baker’s Twine for a rustic finishing touch. Complete the look with a spritz of shimmer spray to add holiday sparkle.
Why Handmade Tags Make Every Gift Special
There’s something magical about receiving a gift that’s been wrapped with love, and a handmade tag takes that to the next level.
These tags aren’t just a practical way to label presents—they’re keepsakes in their own right. Each tag can reflect your unique style, whether it’s rustic and natural or bright and festive. Handmade tags show the recipient that you went the extra mile, turning a simple gift into something truly memorable.
Many people keep handmade tags as decorations for future holidays, creating lasting memories tied to your gift. Adding these personal details to your presents ensures they’ll stand out under the tree—and in your loved ones’ hearts.
