The Great Cover-Up

Hi everybody, welcome to our next episode of The Great Cover-Up!

Let’s get started!

Maybe you have never experienced this, but sometimes I create projects I like, but different elements prevent me from LOVING the overall design. When this happens, I often dissect the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly and try again. I’m usually much happier with the second card, and I almost always learn a thing or two about my own design style and process.
In this set of cards, I created the card on the left with the black sentiment first. I liked the finished card, but I didn’t love it. There were a few components that I felt I could tweak for a more cohesive, polished design. So, the right side was my second effort. Can you spot the changes?
  1. The background Border Bling: Blooming Hearts Die layer was cut and the cutouts in-laid for a more subtle background.
  2. White splatter was added to the background layer for a subtle accent. This serves to break up the “white space” and soften the overall design.
  3. More cohesive rainbow colors were selected for the Pattern Party circles.
  4. Finally, the sentiment color was changed from black to embossed gold, and a “YOU ARE AMAZING” strip was added for emphasis.
Without changing the layout or stamps and dies, I was able to pull the look together to something a little more soothing to the eye. Sometimes the smallest details have a big impact!  Now, it’s your turn!

My challenge to you is to use the same stamps and dies to freshen up one of your own card designs. Let’s turn like it to love it!
