Hi everybody, welcome to our new feature What do I do with this? For this challenge our designers will get to try out some of these new tools and share the projects they created using them. We’ve got some fun, new things coming to the Papertrey Ink store and our designers will show you how to use them so you’ll be comfortable incorporating them into your card-making and gift-giving. Stay tuned for exciting and creative things coming your way! We want to share what our designers love with you, and this gives you a first-hand look into their crafty-faves!
Let’s get started!
Embossing powders are such a wonderful tool to add some shimmer and shine to your projects! I wanted to show you how multiple layers of powder can give added dimension and the feeling of an “enamel pin”. I die cut the four Spooktacular Shaped Tags from white cardstock then embossed three layers of powder on each one. TIP: You will need to let them cool down at least a minute between layers. These dies could be added to napkin rings to dress up your table or you could add them to treats. So many different possibilities! You can add fun details with googly eyes, twine, etc. I wanted to create a warm and cozy quilt-like background to my slimline card, so I arranged hexagon die cuts from patterned papers. The tag shapes were then popped up with foam tape. If you are looking for a great white embossing powder, look no more! The WOW! Opaque Bright White Regular is my new favorite!

I’m stopping by to share a Halloween card I created this week with some fun items from the Papertrey Ink store. I love October and Halloween, but I don’t do scary, so it was fun to turn Boo Black Cat into something sweet with the help of a few PTI products.
I started my card with a Stamper’s Select White Cardstock base, the Tonic Studio Blender Brush and Lavendar Moon Ink. With a soft swirling motion, I applied ink to the white cardstock from the outside edges in to create a soft halo, leaving the center basically white to showcase the Boo Black Cat.
Tip: The Tonic Studio Blender Brushes have a bristle that is coarse, yet still very flexible. This makes it a great brush for soft, light blends of ink.
Next, I used Cover Plate: Ornate to cut a piece of white cardstock that layered over the ink background. I stamped Boo Black Cat in black and cut with the coordinating die. Then layered the background and cat together with foam tape. The soft lavender and Ornate white background mixed with the black cat create a more whimsical Halloween look – which was my goal.
After layering the elements, including a few stamped stars in the background with Lemon Tart ink, and the sentiment, I finished my card by adding some Clear Drops. I love how Clear Drops catch the light, especially with the different sizes, and give an extra embellishment to the card design. I like to use small embellishments like these in uneven numbers, so I’ve added three to the left of the cat and one to the right with liquid adhesive.
Tip: I find when I nestle the clear drops close to an area raised with foam tape, the height of the tape helps protect the clear drops in the envelope. The drops aren’t as likely to catch or tear the envelope in delivery.
Whether you prefer a spooky or sweet Halloween, I hope you find some inspiration here for using a few new tools to change up your design. Happy Stamping!
