Hi everybody, welcome to our next episode of The Great Cover-Up! This weekly feature is all about covering up an unwanted sentiment and utilizing your stash of cardstock scraps. Today, Melissa and Svitlana will be your guides!
Let’s get started!
Today I’ll show you a mistake I often make when creating my cards. I usually add my sentiment last, which means that if I stamp it crooked or in a color that doesn’t coordinate (such as in my first attempt here), I either have to redo the entire card or find a way to cover it up.
I didn’t like the color I stamped my sentiment in originally, so I die cut a banner using the Banner Builder: Basics, and stamped my sentiment again on it using Olive Twist ink. I liked the color much better and also liked the added layer and dimension it added.
INK: Sweet Blush, Pale Peony, Berry Sorbet, Bright Buttercup, Summer Sunrise, Honey Nut, Olive Twist, Spring Moss, Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado
PAPER: Stamper’s Select White, Harvest Gold, Sweet Blush, Basket of Blossoms
DIES: From the Garden, Border Bling, Border Bling Tin Stitch, Love to Layer: Aztec, On the Border: Floral Bliss, Banner Builder: Basics
OTHER: adhesive gems
Do you keep cardstock scraps? I’m sure you do. I have the whole system of storing and organizing those and if possible try to use them first. For my card I decided to use some to build the background.
I picked cardstock pieces of three colors (Perfect Match: Canyon Clay, Perfect Match: Melon Berry, Perfect Match: Sweet Blush) from my pile of scraps and cut them to 1″ strips. Then I used the In Stitched: Banner Die to create piercing along one edge of each strip, followed by stitching each one using thread of matching color.
Then I adhered all strips onto a panel which them was foam mounted onto a Paper Basics – Rustic Cream Cardstock card base.
I used the colors from the background as a color scheme for all other card elements – roses, leaves and sentiment.

STAMPS: Perfect Pairs: Essentials, Enchanting Roses
PAPER: Stamper’s Select White, Paper Basics – Rustic Cream, Perfect Match: Canyon Clay, Perfect Match: Melon Berry, Perfect Match: Sweet Blush
