Hi everybody, welcome to our new feature What do I do with this? For this challenge our designers will get to try out some of these new tools and share the projects they created using them. We’ve got some fun, new things coming to the Papertrey Ink store and our designers will show you how to use them so you’ll be comfortable incorporating them into your card-making and gift-giving. Stay tuned for exciting and creative things coming your way! We want to share what our designers love with you, and this gives you a first-hand look into their crafty-faves!

My love for heat embossing emerged at the same time as my love for stamping! The two have always gone hand-in-hand for me and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the different ways you can use embossing powder. One of my favorite ways, but seldom used, is to create a unique background using embossing powder to completely cover the panel. For today’s card, I layered a piece of Lilac Grace cardstock that was die cut using the Ornate background onto an A2 panel of Lilac Grace cardstock. Once that was done, I completely covered the entire panel with Versamark ink and sprinkled the Twinkling White embossing powder over the top and heat set it. My initial reaction was,”Wow! (no pun intended) that turned out a little bit different than I was expecting!” In the past when I’ve done this technique, the powder has a clear or translucent quality to it rather than the white. However, I ended up LOVING the result! I knew the She Blooms stamps would be the perfect thing for this sparkling background! For her dress, I used vellum and the same embossing powder for a soft look. Melissa Phillips used this same technique and I loved the result, so I couldn’t wait to try it!
