Oh man, where to begin! Being from Wisconsin, I’m so lucky to have fresh food everywhere! Our farmer’s markets are the best! I got to say, the eggs are the best! They just cook up so much nicer than the grocery store varieties. A close second would have to be the CREAM PUFFS at the Wisconsin State Fair, I know they are not exactly “farm fresh” but they are pretty darn close and so darn good. Another guilty pleasure is any fresh cheese from a local farmer, in any variety.

Hopefully they will have a great crop this year in time for our graduation celebration.

I had to chuckle when I saw the question – my answer is breakfast! Living in WI we celebrate June Dairy month with Breakfast on the Farm. A local farm in each county opens up their farm to visitors and offer an amazing breakfast and tour of their farm. Once again, an awesome release!!!

My favorite “farm fresh food” is corn on the cob…picked out of my in-laws’ field right before supper. Almost as good as eating the sweet corn is the familiar ritual of standing in a circle, four generations working together with laughter and love…the wrinkled hands of the great-grandparents, gnarled, but skilled at skimming off every silk …and the smooth soft hands of the toddlers, tugging and wrestling the thick husks, watching, learning… After the preparation, after the young ones tote the discarded husks and tassels and silks back to the soil at the edge of the field, after waiting not-so-patiently while thick yellow ears steam on the stove, nothing in the world tastes quite as good as the buttery, salty, sweet crunch of tender corn on the cob!

By dinner, they were gone! Love the release!!

Since I live in California on a 20-acre ranch/farm, we have a lot of fruit trees and livestock. I won’t eat red meat because our cows are actually pets and will come to you when you call their name. They are so cool. Hubert is my favorite. We don’t use any pesticides whatsoever to feed the livestock or grow the veggies. But there is nothing like a fresh chicken and eggs. When the chickens are prepared to eat, their meat even smells like eggs and is so fresh and tender. It’s the best. Add some veggies and fruit from the garden, and you have the perfect and healthy meal.

Sweet Corn!!! I wait, breathless with anticipation, for the time to start picking the corn. My mouth waters as I am shucking and silking, and the water is simmering in the background. The butter and salt wait patiently. (I don’t, read can’t here, eat salt, but I will break that rule when eating fresh sweet corn!) My evening meal will consist of corn only – at least six ears – YUMMO!! I could probably do this every day for 3 weeks, but my delicate (LOL) digestive system would not allow that much corn. Can’t wait!!!

That would be corn. There is a locally “famous” corn wagon that offers fantastic deals on corn and other veggies. They literally pull up the wagon that they used to pick the corn and sell straight from it, hence the name. But you have to get there early, early, early to get the good stuff. It goes quickly. There’s nothing like fresh, local produce.

Hum, probably tomatoes and grapes because they spoil faster than most produce, so the fresher you get them the better they taste. I’ve heard people say fresh eggs straight from the chick are the best, but I have yet to test that statement. LOL.

Fresh chicken! My grandma lived in a province in the Phillippines and had kept chicken in her backyard. It freaked me out at first when she had grabbed one for dinner, but when I tasted it… OOHHH! It had a very different, fresh and clean taste to it since it wasn’t pumped with hormones like packaged chicken we are used to stateside. Not surprising that she lived to a healthy age of 100… local farmstands and fellow farmers was where she purchased her food.

First on my list is definitely farm fresh eggs. If you have ever had eggs that have just been laid, you would never want store bought eggs again. There is a long list that follows when it comes to the large fruit & vegetable farms here in central Wisconsin. I love the ones where you can just drive up to their barns and get corn that was just picked that morning or better yet, vine ripened tomatoes that were just picked and are still warm to the touch from the warm summer sun. I could eat those babies just like an apple.Lol! Of course, last but not least, those yummy strawberries. We love to go to the strawberry farms and pick our own berries. Brings back many memories when I was finally old enough and my mom would take me picking with her. I hold those memories close to my heart. Just talking about all of these wonderful farms makes me sooooo happy that we are finally done with winter and on to warm sunny days filled with the freshest fruits and vegetables and fingers stained red from picking those sugary sweet strawberries. Aaahhhhh!

My absolute favourite thing to eat fresh from the farm is strawberries. There is nothing better than sitting between two straw-filled rows of greenery and picking berries in the hot sun, popping one into your mouth every once in a while. Local strawberries are the absolute best!!! Although we do get good imports, it’s a shame the season is so short. Maybe that’s why they always taste extra-sweet!
