Welcome to another addition of Make It Monday! Today I am bringing you a fun technique that I used earlier this month during June countdown festivities on THIS CARD that was part of THIS POST. I'm calling it the Polaroid 2-Step Masking technique. Without further ado, here's the video.
And a few still photos of the project.
If you are joining along this week, here are the details concerning the Make It Monday Challenge.
–A new Make It Monday Challenge & video will go up every Monday morning at 9am EST.
–Create a project utilizing your take on the challenge. Your project must use at least one Papertrey product and use the Polaroid 2-Step Masking technique.
–Post your project on your blog, in your gallery or on any other photo-hosting site (such as photobucket or flickr).
–Add your link to our —>InLinkz List<—
–You will have until 7am, Monday, July 4th, to add your link to the list to be eligible to win. And you can enter as many times as you like.
–We will be tweeting and posting on our Facebook page every night (between 5-9pm EST) highlighting a Featured Project. These tweets/Facebook postings will just be a shout-out regarding projects that caught our eye. The tweets/Facebook postings no longer have any special merit regarding the actual contest.
–One randomly selected winner will be chosen from ALL the entries on Monday, July 4th, after 7am. The winner will be posted here on this blog post, on Twitter and Facebook. The randomly selected winner will get to select a FREE Papertrey stamp set of their choice!
Good luck to everyone and we look forward to seeing your projects!
The Make It Monday #21 winner is #68 – Gwen. Congratulations, Gwen! Please make sure to email Customer Service with your choice of stamp set and your shipping information so we can get your prize package out to you! Thank you to all the participants for the fantastic inspiration.

As always…
thank you so much…
so inspiring!
But I want to know how you centered the little emblems so quickly and so perfectly…
I must be cross eyed and not know it because that would have taken me all afternoon!

Oh my, what a beautiful card with a relatively easy technique! Black and raspberry fizz are two of my favorite colors together. Also, thanks for the tip on cutting the ribbon ends…why didn’t I think of that? lol

Loved watching to work your magic! Such a fun technique and a gorgeous card! Makes really realize I could stamp cute patterns without ever investing in a single piece of patterned paper–Might be hard to remember when I’m at the store with all those cute patterns are before me though. 🙂

Wow! Such a pretty, dramatic card, Nichole! I love your technique so I’m off to try it…wish I had DayDreamer and the background stamps you used. But I might find something in my stash that’s just as awesome.

SO beautiful! I was thinking at first that I loved the background stamp and wished I had it, but I do! LOL!
What a fun technique, thanks for sharing!

Your zebra card from the June countdown posts was one of my favourites. I knew I wanted the medallion stamp, but couldn’t resist the zebra so “It’s a Jungle” was in my shopping cart, lickety-split.
Thanks so much for this tutorial – now I have a wonderful resource to check when I start to CASE your card!! I think this is one of my all time favourite card sketches/designs. It’s just stunning and opens so many possibilities. Must go and look through all of my stamps for some other options.

I love this technique! Your instructions make it fool proof! I can’t wait to try it. Oh and the hint about only stamping the part of the background you will see, I keep saying to myself–why didn’t I think of that! That tip alone will make projects so much easier for me!

your inspiration!

Lovely card! Enjoy your videos, but only wish I could hear what you’re saying. I noticed on the Forum I’m not the only one with this problem. I’ve had my system checked out, all other videos, etc. work just fine. It’s just the ones from PTI.
Also wondering if by chance, you could put a “Make-It-Monday link on your sidebar, and then list all the different videos. There are some I’d like to see again, but to go page all the way back seems like a lot more of a hassle than to click on a link and find the exact one I would like to view. What do you think on this matter. Thanks.

So helpful! I will need to give this a whirl…. Thanks Nichole!

J’adore.

I love that card. So beautiful and yet so simple! One question – when you use a black or dark card base, what do you use on the inside so you can write on the card? Do you simply adhere typing/copy paper? Thanks a gain for your wonderful instpiration!
Juanita in Ohio says
WOW! Such a cool card I LOVE that you made your own designer paper! I must try the “polaroid” framing, it looks fantastic. TFS.
Wendy ten Hove says
Wauw, Nichole! I loved this technique and I had so much fun using it, though it did take me some time to make a good mask, hi hi, but I think it worked quite well then and I loved learning something new here AGAIN! I looooove Make It Mondays!!!
Hugs & thanks! Wendy

Kari D says
LOVE this card and the original zebra card. I had never thought about a ‘polaroid mask’ and now feel compelled to go and play! THANKS so much for the great video showing just how you did it!
Gabby says
Lovely card. I always learn from your videos and I appreciate them. I was glad to see how you hand cut your mask. I usually use my SB Nestabilities dies to cut perfect mats. It’s good to have alternative instructions, in case I need a mat that is a size that I cannot cut from my dies. Thank you! 🙂
Gisela says
WOW! beautiful card and awesome technique I will try it for sure. Thanks for the video.

Wow! I was stunned to see that my entry was the lucky winner! At first, I thought it was that linky thing recognizing me. Thank you for sharing your creativity and giving us opportunities to win free stuff! Big hugs to you!
Q says
Very cool, Nichole! Thanks for sharing this, I’m going to be trying it now. I do have a question though – what is the dimension of the paper that you used to create the mask? Due to being deaf, I cannot hear anything that is said on the videos so I rely on brief supply lists if they are available and the thoughtfulness of bloggers who write out the dimensions of paper used in either the video itself or in the supply list. Maybe it’s something you could consider adding to future videos?

That was one FANTASTIC technique, your card is GORGEOUS!
