October 2025 Release Day

Introducing On My Couch & Additions

July 12, 2009      Nichole Heady      Leave a Comment

Lisa's headshot Lisa Johnson has developed a certain style that is prominent in her stamp designs, making them easily recognizable as her own.  On My Couch and Additions is certainly of no exception. This stylish set of sofas & overstuffed chairs will have you making projects that bring smiles along with comfort.  Everything is so well thought out and perfectly designed, you will thoroughly enjoy exploring all of the possibilities.

The details.

  • On My Couch & Additions will be available for sale on July 15th.
  • They will retail for $25 and $15 respectively.
  • Between the two sets there are 4 chairs and couches, two are patterned, one outlined & one solid.  They also include a variety of accessories such as a side table, rug, a cat napping, lamp and more.
  • Between the two there are also 17 sentiments.

Let's get right to the projects, shall we?  Pull up a comfy *chair* and we'll get started!

Clean & simple is one of my favorite looks that I always go back to time & time again.  One of the things to keep in mind when going for this style is having a strong focal point that can be the star of the show. And On My Couch plays the part perfectly!  Oh, and how can I forget to mention the clever sentiments!  They really help bring the whole set together and make it so user-friendly!  This one has got to be one of my favorites!

Outline chair

Lisa incorporated two patterns for the upholstery in this set, but also
included an outline image of both a couch and chair which allows you
to do paper piecing along with the over-stamping technique I used for my project today  It began with stamping the chair outline in True Black ink onto our White Stamper's Select cardstock..

Adding damask

I then used one of the small patterns from Damask Designs to stamp directly over the outline, using Pure Poppy ink.  I made sure that they were centered to help make the pattern a bit more symmetrical.  Since I was cutting the chair out, no masking was necessary.  How many different background stamps do you own?  Think about ALL the different options you would have for turning them into upholstery for the furniture included in this set!  Add in all the different patterned papers you already have in your stash to use in paper piecing!  The possibilities are endless!

Red chair dimension

After cutting the chair out I was able to place it on my card front and allow it to be the main detail, the *star of the show* I spoke of earlier.  A few pieces of foam tape under the chair help to add dimension to the card in a quick & fun way.

Blue & white inspiration

It's SO easy to find inspiration for all of your On My Couch projects by examining all of the fabulous home decor retail websites available, along with blogs that fall into the same category. I found this beauty on Pottery Barn's site.  Color inspiration, pillow patterns & more can be derived from the inspirational pieces that catch your eye, making it fun & easy to create dozens upon dozens of unique versions of the couch & chair images in this new stamp set from Lisa.

By My Side card

Using the inspiration photo I found as a guide, I stamped the solid couch image in Fresh Snow ink.  The color scheme of the card was also established by the photo, pairing the new Enchanted Evening with white & kraft accents.  The floral pattern on the throw pillows in the inspiration photo reminded me a little of the images in our new In Bloom stamp set, so I used it to create my background.

White couch closeup

Even though On My Couch includes adorable throw pillow images, I found
that they were too small to capture the pattern I wanted to communicate
on them.  So I ended up using a 1/2" square punch instead.  The scale
ended up working perfectly.  A little snippet of the Enchanted Evening Bitty Dot ribbon made a nice companion pillow as well.

And one final project showcasing an example of the "scene" you can build with some of the elements that Lisa cleverly included in the new sets.

Chair & table closeup

I love the little sliver of rug she designed.  It really helps to ground everything when doing a grouping like this.  Another thing to keep in mind is overlapping.  If you are careful to incorporate some overlapping of your images when creating a scene, it will have a more realistic feel to it.  If you look at my example, I made sure the chair legs overlapped the rug and the table overlapped it as well as well as the arm of the chair.  It's easy to do, but makes your project that much more professional.

Stitched strip

One other deign note about this project is the stitched cardstock strip I made to act as a border along the top of this card.  It was super easy to make and ended up adding such a nice detail to my finished card.  I really like it and will probably be making more in more colors!

So there you have a few of my nuances regarding On My Couch & Additions.  Can you tell how much I am LOVING this set?  It really is fantastic!  Such a fresh approach, providing something unique & fun to work with.
