Cupcakes have been a huge trend for many months now and Papertrey's version of a set has been one of the most highly requested themes to date. I admit, I took my time designing this because I wanted it to be perfect, unique and easy to use, all at the same time. After many months of concepting, sketching and revising, I am thrilled to finally bring you Cupcake Collection, an amazing cupcake building set! The thing I love about this set the most is that all the cupcake elements are super simple in styling, allowing them to be used in so many ways.
Onto some fun projects!!!
(click image for a larger view)
This first one is my absolute favorite of the three projects I created. A little sweet surprise in the form of a chocolate cupcake!!! As I said in the beginning of my post, the pure simplicity of these cupcake building images allows you to cater them to your style. I paired the new Cupcake Collection with two of our Background Basics sets, Retro & Text Style. I used the stripes from the retro set to make some gingham-type patterns. Don't you just LOVE how that Vintage Cream ink pops on Pure Poppy cardstock?
I'm sure you might have perhaps noticed the striped grosgrain ribbon I used as well? No, you haven't gotten a peek at a new product we are introducing, but rather an easy technique that anyone can do with their Copic markers. I simply used a ruler and R29 Copic marker on our Vintage Cream grosgrain ribbon to create the two stripes demonstrated. It's quick, easy and there is very little bleeding.
This type of ribbon customization really helps you to be more economical with your supplies AND have additional matching elements for all your favorite Papertrey colors. Notice the cute little scallops and polka dots on the bottom portion of the cupcake? I just love them! Little details like that make me so giddy!!!
Betcha wondering a bit about how to build a cupcake at this point? It all starts with the top! There are a couple different tops to choose from, but I recommend always starting the building process with one of them. It is much easier to align the bottom with the top rather than vice versa.
Next, of course, is the bottom. There are five different ones to choose from, making it fun to mix and match with the four different tops in the set. When stamping the bottom, you want to pay attention to the sides, rather than the top edge. If both of the top side corners are touching the edge of the cupcake top evenly, then everything else will fall into place perfectly! Just a tad bit of overlap between the two makes for a much more realistic look.
Now for the sprinkles! You can't have a cupcake without sprinkles! There are three different varieties in this set, perfect for embellishing your sweet little delicacies. They create a fantastic blueprint for the addition of glitter, stickles, rhinestones, pearlescent powders, adhesive pearls and all of your other favorite accents!
I decided to add Prisma glitter to mine using a little liquid glue. The addition of a layered floral accent made for a perfect finishing touch! Couldn't you just eat this up! I can see making these little sweets in oodles of different colors to have on hand for quick cards & tags.
Did you notice my background paper? I created it through a fun little discovery with Polka Dot Basics. I stamped the largest dot grouping with fresh snow ink onto raspberry fizz cardstock. I then followed up with one of the smaller single dots, stamping in between each of the large ones. It really changes things up and I am looking forward to playing with the concept a bit more in the future.
(click image for a larger view)
And here is the final project. I used pinking shears to trim the edges of the raspberry fizz block. I did some crazy random stitching with my sewing machine after the polka dotted layer was attached to my card front. The sentiment & cupcake accent were then added to complete the project. Isn't it so fun?!?! I can hardly wait to make more!

One last little quick & easy project to showcase that there are even a few things in this set to appeal to you when you are in the mood for additional techniques. There are three different elements that are outline images (one bottom & two tops) allowing you to either color or paper piece!
For my example above, I stamped the bottom & top separately, colored them, cut them out and adhered the together, just slightly overlapped. Papertrey Copic Trios were my medium of choice. I added the faint dots to the cupcake top by using C1 to pull the color. The same idea as the teapots I did at the end of this post HERE. Did you notice the fonts in this set? As soon as I put these two lettering styles together, I knew it was a perfect match! I just LOVE them! Don't you?
So there you have it! Your official introduction to Cupcake Collection! I hope you have enjoyed the peeks I have provided of this new set. It's fabulous & inspiring and I know you will love it as much as I do, if not more, once you start experimenting with it in your own space.
We can't kick off this party without a contest!!! What's the best cupcake flavor you've ever had? What do you look forward to doing with this set once it arrive at your door? Just add your answer to these questions to the comments section below to be entered to win…

Nichole, this is another over the top stamp
set! So cute! I got married for the first
time nearly seven years ago and, being an
“older” bride, wanted something that would
make a statement. So, instead of a traditional wedding cake, we had a cupcake
tower. It was the hit of the reception!
My favorite flavor would have to be lemon
with loads of buttercream frosting…in
lots of pretty colors. I would use this
set to make Fourth of July cupcake birthday
cards for my step-daughter and her husband.
They were both born on that date. Thanks
for the opportunity to win this stamp set.

Simply a vanilla girl, but on occasion I used to enjoy Cherry Chip cupcakes, but sadly I cannot find this cake mix anymore. It’s disappeared from stores in my area. This set will be great for birthdays and other little reasons to celebrate. I don’t know why, but Lemon Tart comes to mind when I see this set. Lemon frosting is yummy with vanilla cupcakes!

I must lead a pretty boring life as I’ve only had vanilla or chocolate cupcakes 🙁 However my mom used to make butterfly cupcakes for our birthday parties which I loved! You take a plain vanilla cupcake and slice the top off. Put a dolip of fresh whipped cream on top of the cupcake then cut the removed top in half and stick into the cream at an angle to look like butterfly wings. They are delicious! I can’t wait to use this set in my scrapbooks. The scale looks perfect for my 12 x 12 layouts. Thanks Nichole 🙂

The best cupcake I have ever eaten was a simple chocolate cake with white buttercream icing (the kind made with whipped egg whites). I had walked a long way on a mission to find this little cupcake store I had heard about. By the time I found the store I was really hungry. It was a hot day and the cupcakes were in maybe a 50 or 60 degree cooler. There was plenty of icing on them and they were just the perfect temperature for a hot day, not melty from the heat and not hard from a refrigerator. That was the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten.

I know that chocolate and vanilla are always favourites, but once, years ago, I spotted an orange cake mix and thought I’d give it a whirl. Well, it made the most wonderful cupcakes, especially with some vanilla icing on top (like a Creamsicle!). This preview has got me craving that culinary venture all over again! Either on paper, or for real — actually, both!
Toni Storie says

I guess I haven’t had too many fancy cupcakes – I like chocolate cake with vanilla frosting the best. What is it about making cupcakes instead of a cake that just makes them so great?! I’d love to make a batch with a matching card/tag to give to a friend or my son’s Sunday school class.

The “wonderful, wonderful” part? The people. Walking through the Venetian on the way to the Sands, or walking down the halls of the more subdued Wynn, and knowing a good 50% of the people whose paths you cross, and genuinely liking many of those people? That’s pretty crazy, right? I typically get hitasfd on all the time in Vegas (by non-industry people, of course!) whereas in New York City, nobody ever looks twice at me. Ever. I suspect that’s because in Vegas, I’m smiling 99% of the time, even when I don’t feel like smiling.
