Sweet as Pie + Reflections: August + Cornered: Sunflower

August 24, 2024      Papertrey Ink      Leave a Comment

Penny here again with you today and am so excited to show off our products for Day 2!    When we were brainstorming new products for Autumn, delicious baked goods immediately came to mind, specifically pies of all varieties.  During the Fall months, food really bring friends and families together, and at my house, that means pies for Thanksgiving!  Think cherry, blueberry, pumpkin, apple, even key lime and cheesecake!  We’ve got a strawberry and whipped cream to add to the top, lattice, chocolate or caramel glaze, and so much more.

I’m so excited to show you how our designers brought our new products to life today, so just sit back, grab a cup of cider, and enjoy!

Let’s have a look at what our featured designers created for us today, starting with our paper-baked goods from Stephanie.

Doesn’t Stephanie’s pumpkin pie look good enough to eat?  I love how she added shading across the bottom of her pie, creating such a freshly baked, realistic look.  Her tiny dollops of whipped cream and caramel drizzle, are the perfect finishing touches, aren’t they?

Did you notice the lovely background Steph created?  Guess what she used?  Yep, just the leaves from our gorgeous Sunflower Garden Stencil collection.  How creative and inspiring, and definitely something I want to try.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS: This is Big Sentiments: Thankful

PAPER:   Stamper’s Select White, Classic Kraft, Rustic Cream, Linen Vellum, Bitty Big: Harvest Gold Color Collection

DIES:  Sweet as Pie, Reflections: May, This is Big Sentiments:  Thankful

OTHER:  copper metallic cardstock, sequins

TIPS:

  • Try using stencils in a different way than originally intended for a creative and unique background! It’s a great way to get even more fun designs from one product.
  • Add metallic elements like cardstock or sequins to add warmth and texture to your cards.

Melissa’s favorite pie is her Mother-in-law’s fresh apple pie, so she just had to recreate a paper variety!  Notice the fresh apple slices across the inside of her pie.  Melissa used colored pencils in a variety of yellows and tans to create a tasty, realistic look.

Another fun and easy technique to point out and try on your own is adding a torn strip of patterned paper to add extra texture and interest, just as Melissa has done here.  It ties in perfectly with her Kraft Love to Layer:  Torn Edges die cut.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS:  Fantastic Foliage

INK:  Lemon Tart, Summer Sunrise, Dark Chocolate, Olive Twist, , Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado, Melon Berry

PAPER:  Classic Kraft, Stamper’s Select White

DIES:  Sweet as Pie, Love to Layer:  Torn Edges, Into the Blooms:  Daisies, Love to Layer:  Pinked Edge Squares, Cover Plate:  Handmade Quilt

OTHER:  Patterned paper, scrunched seam binding, sequins, Distress Spray

TIPS:

  • The new Cover Plate:  Handmade Quilt die adds the perfect, cozy, homespun texture to add even more charm and personality to your handmade cards.
  • Use colored pencils in brown and tan to outline around the edges of your pie crust lattice and scallops.  This helps your pie look like it’s been pulled right from the oven!

Notice how Melissa used images from the beloved, older Fantastic Foliage stamp set to create custom patterned paper behind her Sweet as Pie pumpkin pie.  Using stamps this way, opens up a world of possibilities!

I also love how Melissa combined more than one layering die behind her pie to add extra layers…you know how Melissa loves her layers!  She started with the Love to Layer:  Beautiful Bracket die and then added a die cut Reflections:  June die over the top.  The beauty of our layering dies is that they can be mixed and matched in fun and unexpected combinations.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS:  Fantastic Foliage, This is Big Sentiments:  Thankful

INK:  Terracotta Tile, Summer Sunrise, Dark Chocolate, Olive Twist, Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado, Melon Berry, Orange Zest, Canyon Clay, Scarlet Jewel

PAPER:  Classic Kraft, Stamper’s Select White

DIES:  Sweet as Pie, This is Big Sentiments:  Thankful, Love to Layer:  Beautiful Bracket, Reflections:  June, Wine Bottle Tag #2, Vintage Blooms, In the Pocket

OTHER: Adhesive pearls, Distress Spray, Stickles glitter, white glitter foam

TIPS:

  • Consider adding die cut photo corners to your cards.  I used the Vintage Blooms corners, cutting them from white cardstock to add a subtle touch of intricate detail that doesn’t detract from the focal point.
  • Die cut your dollop of whipped cream from white glittered foam.  This adds the perfect shimmer and softness to dress up your slice of pie!

Our new Reflections:  August stamps and dies are over-the-top beautiful this month.  The scripture used will warm your heart throughout the Fall months and beyond.  The meaning is so touching and will be sure to be a favorite.  The coordinating dies are the most unique and creative shapes and are the perfect size to include your scripture and other sentiments.

Betty’s first card is in the most beautiful shades of Autumn.  I can’t get over how it makes me feel inside, and that dear friends, is the magic of handmade cards!

Notice how she used our Eucalyptus Elegance stamps and dies in the same shades as her background.  They soften the sharp edges of her Reflections:  August die and add such a feminine touch, don’t they?

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS:  Reflections:  August, Eucalyptus Elegance

INK:  Smokey Shadow, Scarlett Jewel, Royal Velvet, Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Olive Twist

PAPER:  Stamper’s Select White

DIES: Reflections:  August, Eucalyptus Elegance

OTHER:  Gold metallic pearls, white seam binding

TIPS:

  • Arrange elements to frame sentiment.
  • Layer soft pattern papers to create a subtle background that adds contrast.

This next card of Betty’s might just be my all-time favorite!  I love her Sunflower Garden stenciled background.  Her use of our new Cover Plate:  Handmade Quilt die adds such warmth and softness.  It truly does remind me of a quilt!  And to further add to the quilted look and feel, Betty has used our Love to Layer:  Pinked Edges Square die to which she stamped her sentiment.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS: Reflections:  August

INK: Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Prairie Grass, Green Parakeet, Kraft, Cocoa Bean

PAPER:  Stamper’s Select White,

DIES: Reflection: August, Cover Plate: Handmade Quilt, Bountiful Cornucopia

TIPS:

  • Use only parts of layering stencils to create different looks.  Here I used only three of the five.
  • Use a cover plate die on top of a colored stencil background to add a layer of interest.

Isn’t Betty’s sunflower mug irresistible?  What a fun way to use our new Cornered:  Sunflower dies!  Sunflowers are such cheerful icons of late Summer and early Fall and we couldn’t wait to introduce them this month as part of our Cornered series.  They are intricate, detailed, and add the perfect touch of beauty and grace to your cards.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS: Reflections:  August, This is Big Sentiments:  Thankful

PAPER:  Stamper’s Select White

Look at those beautiful die cut sunflowers in the corners of Seeka’s gorgeous card!  Our Cornered:  Sunflowers quickly transform your cards in an instant.  I love that Seeka die cut all four corners of her card, adding such symmetry and simplicity to her card design.  Orange Zest over Harvest Gold cardstock create the perfect Autumn color combination.

SUPPLY LIST:

STAMPS: Reflections:  August

INK:  True Black

PAPER:  Stamper’s Select White, Orange Zest, Harvest Gold

DIES: Reflections:  August, Cornered:  Sunflower

TIPS:

  •  Pick two shades of cardstock from the same color family for a subtle background or pick colors from different color families for more striking contrast.
  • Don’t worry about poking out the small circles from the centers of the flowers if they don’t fall out; the texture adds extra interest.
