18-Nichole

"I've always loved the way simple, classic salt dough tags look on gifts for the holidays, but hated to make the salt dough! Then a while back I discovered THIS recipe, and I fell back in love with this look. It's so easy to make and really gives you fantastic results. I gave the traditional dough tags a little unique twist by covering them with a bit custom stamped tissue paper. With this easy video tutorial, you can make up a whole batch early and be ahead of the game for the holidays!"

Collage

  1. Make dough according to the recipe found HERE. Allow to cool to room temperature and roll out to 1/4" thick or so. Cut out tags using about a 3" cookie cutter, then cut hole using drinking straw. To help prevent the cookie cutter and straw from sticking to the dough, dip them in cornstarch between cuts.
  2. Impress tags with stamped sentiments. I used Sprig Wreath for "Believe" and Botanical Blocks IV for "Holiday Blessings" and "Christmas Wishes".
  3. Place tags on parchment covered baking sheet. Bake the tags at 175-degrees for 30 minutes each side (one hour total). Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  4. Cut small pieces of white tissue paper, about 2" x 3.5". Stamp with desired patterns. My tags use the following: Holiday Blessings Tag (Christmas Critters), Believe Tag (Sprig Wreath), Christmas Wishes Tag (Fair Isle Motifs).
  5. Spray tissue pieces with a matte fixative (or hairspray) to prevent the colors from bleeding later on. Allow to dry 5-10 minutes.
  6. Tear top edge of tissue pieces. Brush Matte Mod Podge onto bottom half of tag, including the edge. Press tissue into place and bend over and around the edge of the tags it is fully adhered into the Mod Podge. Allow to dry and tie onto gifts or your tree!

Supply-list

  • STAMPS: Fair Isle Motifs, Christmas Critters, Botanical Blocks IV, Sprig Wreath
  • INK: Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado, Smokey Shadow
  • PAPER: White Tissue Paper
  • OTHER: prepared dough (my favorite recipe can be found HERE), 3" cookie cutter (Martha Stewart), Cotton Twine, drinking straw (for tag holes), Matte Mod Podge, Matte Spray Fixative

The-Challenge

  • Now it's your turn!  Create a project featuring a dough tag.  You can choose to re-create the exact project from Nichole above or design your own using the same concepts. Your project must also incorporate at least one Papertrey product.
  • Post your project on your blog, in your gallery, Instagram or on any other photo-hosting site (such as photobucket or flickr).
  • Add your project to the InLinkz list below.
  • You will have until 7am ET, Thursday, August 31st, to add your link to the list to be eligible to win. One project per person please.

The-Fine-Print

  • As a reminder, you will have until 7am ET, Thursday, August 31st, to add your link to the list to be eligible to win.
  • One randomly selected winners will be chosen from all of the InLinkz entries on this post on Thursday, August 31st. The winner will be posted on our Thursday night Stamp-a-faire winners page after 9pm ET.  The randomly selected winner will get a $20 PTI gift certificate to spend however they like!
  • One randomly selected winner will be chosen from the comments of this post on Thursday as well. You will have until 7am ET, Thursday, August 31st to add your comment and be eligible to win. The randomly selected winner will get a $10 PTI gift certificate.

Have you made your own dough ornaments/tags before? I would be interested to know what you think of this new dough recipe and how it compares. Do you think some of your favorite holiday sentiment stamps will work well for impressing the dough? What types of designs do you think you might try to stamp onto the tissue paper? Can't wait to see your take on this challenge!
