Cathy Yamashita says
Well, I’m an avid reader, so my favorite may change over time. But I read “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett several years ago and it was fascinating. It is a historical novel that takes place in the era when the magnificent European cathedrals were being built. The story itself is compelling and gives a wonderful look at how people lived, plus you get the amazing story of how the cathedrals came about. I’ve tried to get lots of people to read it, but it is 1200 pages. However, it was SO good that I read it in less than two weeks.
Julie G. says
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas is my most memorable and favorite!
Peggy Allen says
The most important and memorable book I have read is the Bible. It teaches us how to be saved, how to live and answers all our questions.

I think I will have a really hard time choosing my most memorable book. I love to read, so I have lots of choices. I think I will choose the first Harry Potter book. I read it aloud to my son who was not much of a reader. It inspired him to read the entire series, so I was able to share my love of reading with him.
Amy Gutknecht says
I loved “The Help”. When I got to the last page, I honestly missed the characters and I was sad that it was over!
Carrie :) says
My first favorite author when I was about 8 or 9 years old was Ruth Chew. Her books are no longer published, but she’s responsible for converting me into a reader. I loved all of her books, but remember “The Witches Buttons” being a favorite. I always remember her as being the G-rated version of Stephen King. Lol!
Thanks for all the great inspiration this month! It’s a banner month for sure!
Regina M. Hamilton says
The most memorable book I ever read, well I have to say the Bible and Atlas Shrugged.

Jeni says
My most memorable book…that’s a hard one. I guess I’ll go with the Twilight series that was so popular a few years ago. They’re the only books that I’ve read multiple times & couldn’t wait for the next one. Now of course they just collect dust…
Edie B says
Too many great ones to name just one but probably the most recent would be the Harry Potter series.

Books have always had an important place in my life so I would find it difficult to choose the most memorable book. One of many memorable books was To Kill a Mockinbird.

The Lord of the Rings (+ The Hobbit). It’s amazing how Tolkien managed to create a fantasy world that seems so real. And of course, there’s the universal theme of right and wrong, good and bad and the thin line between these.

This is such a difficult question to answer! I love reading and always have and there are many memorable books for all sorts of reasons. Jenelle T says
The most memorable book I’ve read besides the Bible is “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Normally, I don’t read books more than once, but I can see myself reading this one every year.

My most memorable book is a book that I read in my youth. It was a series and I forgot the name. It was a trilogy of a family in WWI, in the interbellum and in WWII.
I still know how the story goes, although I don’t remember the author/ name…
I read sooooo many good books ever since…
sharri reeves says
Like everyone else, picking just one book is very hard. “Little Women” has always been a favorite, I guess because I don’t have sisters, but my pick would be “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card. It is such a statement on our society. Prejudice, over population, parenthood, taking responsibility, pushing our children to excel and not letting them just be kids, it’s all in there. Good read.
Angela Graves says
It is very hard for me to choose a favorite. As a young girl, I loved the Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden series. If I have to choose just one, the classic “To Kill A Mockingbird”. For my daughter, we are enjoying the series 43 Old Cemetery Road (by Kate Klise) together. Thanks for the chance to win!

My most memorable book is Stephen King’s Pet Semetary, read when I was a teenager. I still get a shiver down my spine every time I think about it.
Chong McAfee says
Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon. A wonderful coming of age story, love and respect between father and son… I’ve lend this book to a few people and they all bought a copy for themselves to keep. I was very upset when the book ended, not to say it has an awful end but for the face that I am not visiting that world anymore…

I viewed it more as a poem coming to life, with all the greatness and richness that only a true writer can achieve. Thanks for a chance to win!!
Peggy says
“The Handmaids Tale” by Margaret Atwood. It takes place in a future where few women are able to have babies.
Angela says
Jane Eyre. I love it because no matter what she’s forced to deal with, she never compromises her principles. And because it’s not about physically beautiful people.
becky p. says
Most memorable book I have ever read is Wonder. Although it is a children’s book, it had great characters, it made me both laugh and cry. The message was to be kind. Everyone cold benefit to tAke heed to that message bit not. Great release.

Bev says
It’s hard to choose. I read a lot of mystery stuff and love it for the entertainment and some of them have been pretty darn good. But 2 books stand out as memorable. One, not a mystery. I read it a long time ago but it helped me thru a strange time in my life. It was ‘I’m OK, your’re OK. ‘. And for entertainment one by Stephen king – ‘the girl who loved Tom Gordon’. This is a hard question for a literature teacher, but I will go with _To Kill a Mockingbird_. Scout, looking from the Radley porch at the end, seeing Boo’s world (and isolation and curiosity and protection and love) is one of the most poignant scenes ever written. She “stands in his shoes” and understands his life. What a rich and ever-true lesson for us all. Thanks for a fun release.

I love to read and it brings me great joy to have a book in my hands. I have so many that are the best. First I have to say the Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This was a great love story from the beginning to end and covered the highs and lows of loving someone and growing old together. My next is The Secret and I read a small phrase every morning to start my day. It has changed the way I look at things and how I deal with everyday life. And finally I have to give mention to JK Rowlings and her Harry Potter series I think she is an amazing women. It just warms my heart to see kids reading again and being so excited to do so. I have seen families reading her books together. I love it!

I love all the Harry Potter books by J K Rowling, but if I had to chose just one book it would be “My Family and Other Animals” by Gerald Durrell. It is the true story of a young boy growing up in Corfu, his developing passion for the local animals and countryside, and is interspersed with humorous anecdotes about his eccentric family and the Greek villagers. I read it at school, but it was such a joyous book that I began to read more by the same author (he set up his own zoo on Jersey eventually). In fact I’ve just ordered another copy last week as I’d like my husband to read it too.
richard vd L says
I read a lot (or at least try to), so it is hard to pinpoint a most memorable book. But is I have to choose it is a tie between the Harry Potter series or Pride and Prejudice. I’ve read it several times since, & just love it. “The Forgotten Garden” by Kate Morton is a more recent find. I just happened to pick it up on clearance @ Borders, & how lucky was I! I’ve now read all her books, & re-read this one! I highly recommend it.
Sherry Collett says
I’ve always loved to read but I read Love Story during study hour in high school and it was the first book that actually made me cry, and I mean really sob. That’s when I realized how powerful books can be. They can actually grab hold of your emotions anywhere and any time. Books can make you forget where you really are and I love that about about them. You lose yourself in them for a while.

I’m not sure if it’s necessarily the most memorable book I’ve read, but one of the most “life impacting” was One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish” by Dr. Seuss. In my first real job interview, I was asked about my favorite book. This was my answer. I’m told that part of the reason I got the job was my unique and atypical response. I worked at that company for 10 years. It’s where I met two of my closest crafty friends (who introduced me to paper crafting) and where I met my husband. A lot of love and joy…all because of one little book!
Jessica says
The most memorable book I’ve ever read was Charlotte’s Web. It’s the first book I really remember reading in kindergarten and I can’t believe how many copies I went through because I’d read them until they fell apart. It really sparked my love of reading!

The book that was was most important to my life was a book about worry that I read 15 years ago. I worried about everything in my life and people around me started to notice. I have been an avid reader my entire life and read many different genres of books. But the one that stands out the most is Gone With the Wind. I think because it was a rite of passage book — one of the first adult fiction books I could share with my Mom. A close second is Leon Uris’s QBV11. The atrocities committed by the Nazi’s in terms of “medical research” was something that was not discussed in my junior high and high school classes.

Usually my most memorable book is the one I just finished reading at the time. I belong to a book club which is fantastic because it makes me read out of my box. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card was pretty good because it was completely out of my comfort zone. I’m more of a good mystery or “Pride and Prejudice” kind of girl.
Deanne Groves says
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I first read this when I was around 12 and it really hit me about life and being an adult.

Outlander, when I first was told about the book I didn’t think I’d like it… Time-travel not for me, historical novel, nahhh. But once I started to get to know the characters, it became me home away from home. Love it and I also love that it seems to be never ending.

Laura K says
Definitely A Farewell to Arms by Earnest Hemingway. I find it odd that one writer wrote one of the best books I have ever read and the absolute worst I have ever read. How does one man write such a poignant love story one day and a boring rambling story known as The Old Man and the Sea another?

Pride and Prejudice-I found a copy in my grandmother’s basement when I was 18 and had never heard of Jane Austen. Afterwards, I couldn’t believe that I had gone through school never knowing such a wonderful author. Gee, that’s only one of many reasons I homeschooled my children.
Mindy says
I love to read so it’s hard to narrow it down to just one book. I guess I would have to say the first Harry Potter book. Before Harry Potter became “known”, I was at the library and happened to ask the woman checking out my books for a recommendation on a new to me author. Turns out, she was the children’s librarian and she said she had just read a book recently released that she loved, so I took it home and read it that afternoon. After I completed the book, I remember telling people that it was one of the most engaging books I’ve ever read & recommended it to many people. Was really fun when the movies & new books came out – my kids and I went the first day to all of them. Even got my son, who is not a book lover, to read the series.

Most memorable book I’ve ever read. That’s a hard one because there are so many. I’m going with a childhood favorite – Little Witch by Anna Elizabeth Bennett. It was a very sweet book, filled with wonderful little illustrations. I’ve tried to find a copy – I continue to search. It’s an oldie for sure. I read it in the early 1960’s. I think it’s most memorable because it brings me back to a much simpler time. When there were bookmobiles and it was a thrill to have your own library card 🙂 Thanks!

María Alba Negrón says
Hi,
This is such a difficult question since I have a lot of authors that I gravitate to.
But being the key word “memorable”, I would have to narrow it to four books, sorry for one reason or another, they are all memorable to me.
I would like to start by Gone With The Wind, we have all seen the picture (my favorite), but the book is so much more interesting and delves more profoundly into each one of the characters, specially Scarlet. Then I would have to say The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, the first one because it grips you from the start and it does not let you go, and because it does something I never read before, in the epilogue, she writes all the things that the characters and we did not know about the main events and it blew my mind! The other because she writes
about domestic violence and having lived it and being a survivor it narrates exactly what goes through a woman’s mind when she is thinking during and after the events take place. This author is phenomenal, she is the only author that I have read
that writes the way women think, she is a force of nature, her books are real, poignant, funny and soooo interesting!
The last author is as notable as all the others, his name is Carlos Ruíz Zafón, a Spanish author, which is my native tongue, but has been translated to multiple languages, I have read every one of them and I can use the same adjetives for his books as I used for Ms. Moriarty, the first one which is called “La Sombra Del Viento”, that I will translate to “The Wind Shadow” or “The Shadow Of The Wind” the whole concept is about books. They also grip you and does not let you go.
I am sorry for this long and detailed review, but I just could not concise it much more, I am an avid and enthusiastic reader and writing just one or two sentences about this topic will literally mean excruciating pain for me!
Cariños,
María Alba

I love the treasure in the “little things” and this book has warmed our Christmas times and other times because my family likes to read it throughout the year 🙂

My first grade teacher read to our class all the time. During the holiday season, she introduced us to a delightful book called “Nancy and Plum.” It was a story of two orphaned sisters who ran away and found themselves on the farm of an older couple who never had children and took them in. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is full of beautiful imagery which remained with me long after reading it.

Oh gosh, it’s so hard to pick one book. It may be an easy way out to say “the most memorable book I’ve ever read is the one I just finished.” However, I will have to say “Scorpio Races,” which I just finished last night. Loved the characters, the writing, the emotions that just pour from the book. For the most memorable in my lifetime? So many, but “Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret” is high on the list.
Kirsten E says
Right now I am reading “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand and I can’t put it down.

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. I read it over and over as a child. I just love how these orphans banded together to make a home and look after each other in an abandoned boxcar. I continued to read everything else in the series, but this first book was my favorite. When I reread this story with my own children the innocence of my childhood was replaced by motherly concerns for these orphans all alone. A different feel altogether. A very memorable book from a different perspective.
HeatherD says
My favorite fiction book(s) would actually be the Chronicles of Narnia set by CS Lewis. Read them sooooo long ago…was fun when they became popular and made movies from a few of them. Nonfiction would of course have to be the Bible 🙂

He exceeded every ones expectations and lived over another 40 years. Instead we read the book together when he got out of the hospital over 6 months later. I started reading when I was 2 yrs old and I thought anything by Dr. Suess was tops! Since then, over the last 50 yrs, I’ve read A LOT of books. Decades ago, several friends who knew I loved history, recommended I read The Book of Mormon. They told me it was an incredible history book. I hesitated but when I started reading it I was captivated and found myself anticipating the next chapter. I read it every free moment I had. Very interesting accounts and concepts. While living in Utah, I attended a pageant in Manti, where they enacted a part of it. It was wonderfully acted out. The beautiful white stone Manti Temple was the back drop. It was an amazing experience. The Book of Mormon, for the history, stories and overall content has been the most memorable book I’ve ever read. The pageant, one of the most memorable enactments I’ve ever seen. 🙂

Without a doubt, Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” was the first real book that I devoured front to back while recovering from the chicken pox in the 5th grade. Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, along with Lucy Maud Montgomery, continued to feed that recreating of events that inspired my own sense of discovery, growth, and survivor instincts that spur my curiosity to this day.

And while there is often controversy surrounding the author’s ideals, the very basic message still sticks with me years later. Thanks for yet another incredible array of products and ideas!

Another favorite is The Bible. I have yet to read all of it, but whenever I pick it up and read any little bit, it fills my spirit with hope and inspiration.

“West with the Night” by Beryl Markham is extra fabulous set in East Africa in the early 1900’s and WWI era. Markham’s prose and storytelling is even greater than Isak Dinesen’s Out of Africa.

Wow, I read a lot… and then re-read so many. I saw so many mention the Bible and yes, that has had the greatest impact on my life. Books that were so memorable are Huck Finn, Little House series, Anne of Green Gables series, Little Women (all from my childhood). A book that struck me strongly was Hellen Keller’s autobiography… probably one reason I became a doctor of audiology.
