I desperately wanted a black bmx so I could ride the track in the local park and go off the jumps (just like the boys) but I got a super-heavy gold girls raleigh bike with a basket on the front and a saddle-bag on the back – soooo not cool – and so heavy it was never going to get any air. The gold metallic paint was a nightmare to fix when it got scratched too.

I had a bright white bike as a kid, and I remember thinking how cool it was because you could see this shimmer in the paint when it was under the sun. I also had my first major wreck riding it: down the hill and into the prickly bush. It was awesome!
Amanda says
It was purple! With white stripes on the center bar.
Christine Nixon says
Oh, that takes me back! My brother picked up a used bike somewhere. It had several coats of paint on it – red, black and white. It was way too big for me and it was a boys’ bike to boot. I had to get the pedal up to the top, get up on a chair and push off because my feet did not touch the bottom pedal. THen to stop, I’d coast to as slow as I could bet and jump off. I loved that bicycle. I still ride but I have a much nicer Townie Electra now!
Sue D says
Wow–I don’t remember what it looked like but I am pretty sure it was a Schwin and I rode it everywhere!

The first bicycle I can remember was red with training wheels. it’s dad who learn me to ride

When we turned five my siblings and I all got a brand new bike for our birthday. Mine was Hawaiian Shores in color…and had a great banana seat. My first bike was a blue Schwinn. I remember the red and white streamers blowing in the wind. I use to place cards in the spokes with a clothes pin to make noise I was such a tomboy! Thanks for the chance to win.

My first bicycle came with a Dad attatched to it. More than what it looked like, I remember Dad running up and down the sidewalk with me, giving me balance until I had the confidence to go it alone.
sandye Curry says
I was only six years old, and my parents bought me a used 26″ red bike. I had never ridden before–and this bike was enormous to me. However, with my Daddy’s help, I learned to ride it, the only bicycle I ever owned. It lasted through my teenage years.
Kate says
My first bike was a red, shiny fold-up bike that I just adored. It was a birthday present that my Dad had hidden in a little-used part of the house but I saw it there and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I spent many a happy hour cycling around to friends farms to play on that bike. It was a huge part of my childhood.

I also fondly remember my white, pink, and purple trike with it’s “super secret hiding spot” for all of my goofy collections underneath the seat. Both totally unlike my bike now, but what fun memories!

My first bike was rainbow colored with a yellow banana seat. I loved it!

My first bike, like so many other things, was actually my older sister’s first. However, spare a thought for my younger brother who also learnt to ride on that same, battered little thing. My first real bike of my own was a pale blue Raleigh Shopper that took me from days out with friends to my first years at work.
Ted says
Oh gosh, this brings back memories. 🙂 I had a bike with what was called a “sissy bar”. It was a very tall, long curved bar that was fastened behind the seat. Almost as a “backrest”. Of course, being a boy, I had to have playing cards in the spokes so I could have a “motor”! 😉
Sandy W, says
I remember riding on my brother’s bikes that had long banana seats! Today I would rather have a nice wide comfortable seat.

It was given to me by my dad on my 14th birthday. He knew how much I wanted one – I asked to ride everyone’s bike when we went to visit people! It was a total surprise – he was as thrilled as I was to get it – you see, we didn’t have much money, so it was a big sacrifice for him! The bike was metallic blue and I ran that thing into the ground!

Sadly, one day I came home and my bike was gone. My Dad had given it away to a family we knew that had five kids and no money. I was devestated to say the least. He didn’t mean to hurt my feelings as he thought I grew out of the bike…I just loved that bike.

Kathy V. says
It was a shiny bright blue and Brand New! But I was 17 years old, so I didn’t ride it too much. Not when you live on a gravel road and there was always work to be done on the farm. So my younger brothers rode it more them me.

My first bicycle was a red trike with a bell, streamers on both handles and a basket on the front. I rode the heck out of it until it was way too small, then graduated to a regular, run of the mill bike – but it was never quite as much fun to ride as that red trike for some reason … with a few modifications (streamer and basket removal, for instance) my brother also rode it when he grew into it. Can’t wait to make a card replicating those wonderful childhood memories! I’ll have to come up with something fun to use as handlebar streamers too, lol! Love, love, love the new products!!!
Monika Davis says

I can’t remember exactly but I am pretty sure it had a banana seat. haha

Linda E (uncbballfan) says
I remember the evening my Dad got home from work, and from the back of his truck, he pulled out the most gorgeous turquoise bike I had ever seen. For me? FOR ME??? I loved it. Dad worked with me a little while, teaching me how to keep my balance. And then he sent me sailing down the hill. His confidence in me was greater than mine in myself. But I made it! All the way to the bottom, with nary a scratch on me or the bike. I was so exhilarated I didn’t realize my Dad was right there by my side, ready to catch me if I started to fall. Such a sweet memory.
Sue B says
My first bike would have been around 62 years ago! It was not a new bike. It was just a plain old girl’s bike – no gears or anything fancy. I don’t remember the color but I do remember that I was relentless in learning how to ride it on our gravel road.

Seem to remember an electric blue Schwinn with pedal brakes. You know, the kind you turn backwards with your feet to stop? Had it all. Basket, for my cat, bell and lights. Ann C. says
I had a little red tricycle that I shared with my brother who was just 11 months older than I. Then we shared a little red Huffy. The bike that was all mine, was a used bike my father got somewhere when I was about 14. He put back together and put new tires on it. He was good at restoring bikes because that was what he did in the Depression as a teenager to earn money to go to the movies. My father painted the first coat – a burgundy-brownish colored Rustoleum. I liked that color so much it never got a topcoat!
mel quin says
My first bike was a hand-me down from my big brother. A very large and very heavy grey Grifter – my feet could hardly touch the ground. But I did manage to pass my cycling proficiency test on it. x
Richard says
My first bicycle had trainingwheels and was yellow. For a time it had next to the bell, also a sirene on it. When I outgrew this bike, it was given to my younger brother. I always looked after my bike(s) very well and am very careful with them. And although i live in a cycling country (the Netherlands) and I use my bike frequently (I have no drivers licence), and I just turned 40, my current bike is only my fourth 🙂
Nadia K. says

I desperately wanted a bike when I was young but my parents wouldn’t let me have one. They bought me a little red scooter instead – but I couldn’t keep up with my friends on that! My dream bike now would have a turquoise coloured frame and be power assisted to help me up hills! It would need a big basket at the front and saddle bags to hold all my stamping things so that I could go and visit friends to craft.
Kalyna says
My first bike was white, lilac, light sea foam green, and light pink. Of course, there were matching colored streamers on it. I called it Ghost for some reason- I’m assuming because of the pastel colors. I felt like I could ride anywhere on that bike!
Michele aka Derbylea says
It was green and white. I believe it had training wheels and I know it had a banana seat cause it was 1970something. It also had white and green streamers on the handle bars and a little bar in the back of the seat where we used to tie a rope and then we tied the other end to my brother’s big wheel. Fun times!
Cindy H. says
My first bicycle I believe was blue and it had a little bell on the handlebars. I remember I put streamers in the hole of the handlebars that waved in the wind when I rode and tied balloons onto the wheels so it made sort of a “motor” sound, lol. Sometimes we would all put streamers of crepe paper interwoven in our wheels to dress up our bikes – such fun! I do wish I had a basket for my bike back then but with PTI’s new set I’ll get it for my stamped bike images 🙂

My first bicycle really wasn’t bicycle! It was a fire engine red Western Flyer tricycle, purchased at the local Western Auto store in our tiny Louisiana town.
It had a step on the back (for a friend to ride), and a hand-operated bell that let the whole neighborhood know that I was coming!
I loved it with all my heart and wish I still had it today!!
I found a similar one discarded on the roadside several years ago, brought it home and painted it fire engine red. It has a place of honor in my flowerbed to remind me of those wonderful days in the 1950’s. and especially of my grandmother who bought it for me!!
Dolly/scrapthat says
oh my first bicycle was rather special! See we lived in a downtown apt. when I was small and therefore I was not allowed a bicycle at home. However some good friends of mine lived in a more suburb type area so I would go out to visit them often on the weekends and one weekend I received a special gift of a red second hand bike, being about nine at the time…I really didn’t care that the bike was second hand I was just THRILLED to own a bike at all!

Oh my – you’re talking ancient history here. I think my first two-wheel bike was a big clunky Schwinn which was a hand-me-down from my cousins, but the bike I remember the best (at least in terms of how I received it) was the one I received for my birthday. My parents went “grocery shopping” and called me out of the house to help unload the car. I walked right past the shiny new bike sitting in the driveway. It was a great surprise! I don’t remember the color or anything else about it – just that it was a wonderfully happy day.
Detra Parks says
It was purple with a banana seat, basket, and a bell. I was afraid to ride without the training wheels until I was 8 years old and my 4 year old sister was trying without the training wheels, I was shamed into giving up the trainers……ahhh! Loved the freedom once I learned:-)

Too many years ago to remember the color of the bicycle, in fact I think perhaps I was an adult when I got my first one and I remember not balancing so very well on it. I could just as easily end up in the ditch as on the road! Now I do like to bike…especially on flatter ground, ha!
Amy G says

It was purple with a banana seat and a white basket on the front. Loved it!!!
Sandy in Epping says
My first bicycle as a 24″ blue Murray with big balloon tires. We hard to EARN our bikes, but weren’t allowed to have one until we were TEN. I got mine when I was eleven, though because I was afraid of them–so big for the wee peanut that I was, that I was fearful of falling off. No “Kiddie models” or training wheels were allowed 🙁 back then.
My favorite accessory was the wire saddle basket for my back fender in which to carry my books to school once I had earned my ‘permit’. We had to prove that we were competent with all rules of the road, and passed a riders test before getting that permit, and the school decal for the fender!
Amy Kolling says

I definitely had a bicycle, and started with training wheels! It was a Schwin, and a “girl’s” model, and I know I rode it a lot, but I cannot remember when I stopped! I bought a very nice 10-speed in my thirties, but went flying over the handlebars at one point and broke my nose (my only broken bone) and I don’t think I ever rode it again. That was very traumatic and included a ride in the ambulance to the emergency room (with my bicycle), a lot of blood and stitches as well. Now my bicycle riding is confined to the gym!
Jan Pufall says
My first bike was a three speed. Back in 1960, that was a big deal. I was admiring my new gift and drove right into the back of a car! Ouch!

Now, I get to share that joy with my son!

I love this question! It brings back so many good memories! Well, the first bike that I can remember having was a shiny red Schwinn with the banana seat (I think that is what they were/are called)… and it had “streamers” hanging out of the end of each of the handles… and my brother put playing cards in the spokes of the wheels to make a really fun noise! I can remember riding that bike just like it was yesterday!

Angela NJ says
I don’t really remember my first bike, but I remember the streamers that hung from the ends of the handlebars. I remember that the seat was one of those long, skinny banana style seats, and I remember a metal disk bell with the lever on the side. I also remember we used to cut plastic straws and wrap them around the spokes.
Then there was the time someone ran over my little brother with their bike – surely it was my little sister and not me! I haven’t been on a bike in years, but I’m pretty sure I would need one of those wide, cushy seats and maybe three wheels 🙂

Angela Reeves says
My first bike was a trike! It was red and white with white walled tyres and a boot (trunk for all of you across the pond!)in which I made a bed for my dolly, Patsy, and we used to ride around the neighbourhood. It was safe to do that in my small home town back in the fifties. The mums would wave and older people doing their gardening would stop and talk and I would invent “errands” wich involved “buying” empty cardboard boxes and “paying” with leaves from our local grocery. What a sense of freedom and excitement for a little four year old!
Sue S. says

My first bicycle was a red BMX that my dad fitted training wheels. It had a low middle bar so you could ride it with a skirt and not get caught. Its funny this question cropped up as I have been looking for an adult version of that bike, just fo bring a bit of childhood back into the now.

I haven’t ridden in years, now.

I had a very big attachment to my first bike. It was a pink Schwinn 20″ with a floral banana seat, white basket with floral trim, and a squeeze bulb bike horn. One day I went in for lunch and came back out to find it gone. I was a devastated 8 yr old. Come to find out our town of 3000 had a high school bike chop shop happening down the road. Our fine men in blue busted the gang but alas it was too late for my bike. All I got back was the basket and horn 🙁 It’s funny how some memories stick with you. Shiny and red with a bell
I’d ride it right up to the hill top
so I could freewheel down with a yell
My brother would jump onto the rear rack
Gripping on as we rode at great speed
Like a daredevil act from the circus
Warnings of safety we never did heed
Other times I’d cycle at my leisure
just potter along for the joy
the sun on my face as I peddled
heart content, at one with this toy
Oh what became of my metal stallion
I cannot recall, cannot tell
But I thank you for stirring the memory
Of a beautiful, treasured childhood spent well

Hmm, that’s a hard one because all I remember is my 10-speed bike that I crashed when I was about 10 and had a road burn over the right side of my body! Not a pleasant memory for sure, but I rode that bike everywhere… even after the crash!
marion says
My first bike was a rusting red contraption that I shared with my two sisters. We found it hidden at the bottom of the garden when we moved into a new home in 1974!

Bernadette M says
It was a hand me down Hello Kitty bike.
Laura Beck says
My first 2 wheeler was my brother’s hand-me-down, which I didn’t like, but I loved the feeling of riding up and down the street as fast as I could go! I also remember using clothespins to put pieces of cardboard on the spokes so that they made a noise as you rode!

My first bicycle was amazing! I started with training wheels, but soon lost those:) It was a hot pink, with a bright white banana seat, the elogated handle bars (like on motorcycles)with multi colored streamers coming out of the handle grips. It had a white wicker basket on the front that I would put my dog in basket. I thought I was the coolest kid ever:)
Mel H says
Mine was a bold 1970’s pink with a glittery banana seat. It was used when I got it, and well loved, but I rode that bike until I just got way too big for it. It had a basket with big plastic flowers…then it was kind of ugly, but now it’s retro cool!
Wendy says
My 1st full side bike was given to me for Christmas but only because it fell off the back of a truck on the freeway and hit my older brothers car! It was still in the box too!
Bonnie T. says
I can’t even remember my training-wheels bike. I think it was red. Maybe. The one that stands out clearly in my head is the one I would have to ride to school on every day in Middle School and High School until I *finally* got my driving permit. It was a mountain bike painted white with a splatter paintjob of pink hues all over it. I LOVE those adorable “town” bikes, but I’ve always ever owned a mountain bike because they are more conductive to hills and non-paved roads with their gear shifts.
Carol S says

voegelchen says
My really OWN first bike was a red one, I got it with ten and was very proud of it because it was so shiny and red and new. I love new things because I often got the old things from my two older brothers and there things weren’t shiny at all! 🙂

Autumn C says
My first bike was lavender with a floral banana seat.

Lynne S in GS says
My first bike was a little red tricycle that I still have pictures of, but my true love bicycle was a pink Schwinn that my grandfather gave me for my high school graduation, that he got on Mackinac Island, Michigan. I LOVED that bicycle, and passed it on to my oldest daughter some years ago. I recently “retired” from a job I loved, and they gave me another pink Schwinn so similar to my first one, that it was love at first sight. Wonderful release! thanks so much

My first bike had been my Dad’s. It was old enough the two wheels were like a trike’s and it had a belt instead of a chain. Anyone over 50 pounds couldn’t ride the little thing cause the belt would slip. I rode it all over my Grandpa’s farm.

Maryse N says
My bike was turquoise and white and the handles had streamers. I loved it!
Laura K says
I think it was pink and white with a basket on the front and streamers hanging out of the handle bars. I was so scared to write it until my cousin put a feather in the handle bar where the streamers came out and told me it was magical like the feather that dumbo used to fly and that it would help me ride my bike. It worked I guess!
Lisa Harris says
My first bike was a turquoise hand-me-down from my big brother. I learned to ride it when I was 4. It was a plain old bike but I didn’t care. I felt like such a big girl when daddy took my training wheels off and taught me how to ride on two wheels.

The first bike I remember was bought at an auction.. the ugliest one there. It was this rusty bronze colour with a banana seat (remember those?). I hated it, but I still rode it to school every day – where it was stolen! I was more shocked (at about 9 years old) than upset – shocked because who would want it, and not upset I think, because I knew I could finally have a pretty bike since there was no more auction!
Maria F says

My first bike was pink and chrome with a little white wicker basket on the front. And (back in the 70s) we used to weave ribbon through the tire spokes to make rainbows as the wheels went around! And, of course, it had the long banana seat (white leather) and the tall ‘flag pole’ off the back of the seat that held the triangle orange safety flag! Yep, that was me…stylin’ in the alley! =o)

My first bicycle that was truly mine – I have an older brother and sister – was a mid-size blue “cruiser” with a white seat, which was a birthday present. It was just a regular bike with no handbrakes. To this day, I am leery of handbrakes!
I had been riding a smaller bicycle with training wheels. When I got my new blue birthday bike, my dad told me that I could ride it without the extra wheels. The first day with my bike, my dad ran up and down the street holding onto the back of the seat. Each time he let go, I wobbled and tilted and fell. After we took a break for dinner, I sneaked out by myself and practiced some more. After a short time, I was able to ride by myself. I remembered feeling like the biggest girl that evening and thinking that I could now keep up with the big kids. That took a little longer, but what fun I had trying.

My first bike wasa green Schwinn. Full size. I had a hard time learning to ride it since Mom andDad wouldn’t let me go to the front of the house with it until I knew how to ride. I had “maybe” 25 ft of sidewalk from alley to house to learn. By the time I got it going I had to stop it or run into porch. More than once I ended up on the ground with the bike on top of me.
Leah Schaeffer says

fun question! When I was in 4th grade and my brother was in 1st grade, we sold Swipe (a cleaning product) door to door to earn money for our first bike. It was a girl’s bike and it was my size (poor brother!) and it had brakes on the handlebars. We lived on a short block near the top of the hill. On my first ride, I didn’t know how to use the hand brakes, so the crash at the bottom of the hill was quite dramatic! In looks, it was pretty boring, but so much fun!
Kim P says
My first ‘real’ bike was a teal-ish colored girl’s bike that I named ‘Black Mariah’. I put a lot of miles on that bike. Funny how my kids were never allowed to be so adventurous.

Laurie Hunt says
I think that I had a small red bike with training wheels, but the bike I remember was a lemony-lime green color girls bike with high rise handle bars and a banana seat! I kind of always hated the color. It was geared in really weird way that made it so darn hard to turn the pedals that it is amazing that I ever went anywhere on it and I had it until I got my powder blue Schwinn 10 speed. Counter to that green thing, I loved my 10 speed. Everything about it I loved!

Sorry, I don`t know exactly what the bike looked like, think it was blue. But I remember how I learned to ride it.
My one year older brother was my teacher!!
He held the bike first and when I was sitting on it he gave a push and called :”Keep on pedaling!” I shouted: “And how can I stop?” His remarkable answer was:
“Embrace the next latern!”
However, I learned to ride a bike and enjoy it most in the summertime.

My first bike was pink with a big giant banana seat. I insisted on no training wheels!

My first bike was certainly the same shape as the new pedal pusher bike minus the basket. After so many years of use that seat became battered and torn, but I love that the memory of it still brings me a smile.
Tien says
My first bike was a hand me down from my siblings. It had a basket in front, a rear rack behind, and a bell to warn people to get out of my way! That was a long time ago. Now that knee problems prevent me from cycling, my dream bike would the one in PTI’s Pedal Pusher stampset!
berryblue says
I honestly don’t remember what my first bike looks like, which makes me sad! 🙁 BUT, on a more positive note, my daughter just got her first “big girl bike” for her 5th birthday..which is purple and white and sparkly. However, it came with training wheels attached, and she refused to ride it…preferring to ride the old, dirty, beaten up “boy bike” that was in the garage after her older brothers outgrew it…because she wanted nothing to do with the training wheels! She’s a gem! And riding her sparkly new bike without training wheels like a champ!
Becs Attwood says
My first (& last!) bicycle was a metallic purple tricycle with a trailer that could carry around lots of my soft toys when I was about 4 years old.

The first bike that I can remember was an English 3 speed bike that I earned as a prize by selling cards. That was many years ago. At that time having a bike with 3 speeds was something special! It was black and because I earned it all by myself I was very proud of it. I kept it well into my married life.

Strollin’ down Memory Lane…My first bike was small… I called her “Baby Blue”. When my younger brother got it (when I got the 2nd hand Sting Ray with a banana seat), he refered to the bike as “Baby Blue”. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but now I think that is so cute!
Cindy Holshouser says
We just stored the skis away and we are getting bikes ready. I can’t remember my first bike but my adult bike is white with pink roses and the tire trim is mint green. I live it, and love to ride with my boy and neice. I knew I wanted Pedal Pusher as soon as I saw it.

I’m sure I had one – I can kind of remember riding up and down our street – but nothing specifically about what the bike looked like. I have the perfect bike for me now though – a big comfy seat – blue – with a cross stitch pattern on it. Now if I would just get out there and ride it! 🙂

My first bicycle was lilac – and I still have it. However it is not an old bicycle, I bought it last year through a ‘cycle to work’ scheme. When we were children we lived on a very busy main road & our Mum wouldn’t let us have a bike. I learned to ride on a friend’s bike in the school summer holidays when I was about 12 but that was the last time I rode a bike…until last year! (I am now considerably older!!)
I am very proud of my bicycle – it has some flowers painted on the frame & a lovely basket just like the one in the new set. I think that is the best feature as you can fill it with so many different things – the possibilities are endless! I am sure it is going to be a very popular set.

I saved forever to purchase my first bike at 12 years old. It was beautiful and I was in love! It was pale blue and had a denim fabric seat. Exactly one month after purchasing my bike, I flipped over the handle bars and face planted onto the road. I dislocated my jaw and tore up my arm pretty badly. I remember walking my beloved bike home, crying, not for myself, but because my frame was bent and my seat was torn!

Connie Smith says
My first bike of memory was a used bike, silver and looked similar to the one in the stamp set. It was given to me from friends of my parents. The bike I recall the most was the one I won in a skate-a-thon (roller skating)in 1979 when I was only 12 years old. We went around with pledge sheets and raise money for Cerebral Palsy. People donated money for every hour I skated or they could make a straight donation. I don’t think anyone thought I would make it the whole 12 hours or they were just being generous but I skated the whole 12 hours and I had the most pledges. I raised $632(that was a lot of money, almost 25 years ago-heck that’s a lot of money now, lol)and I did it by myself. My parents didn’t take the sheet with them to work or anything like they do now. I grew up out in the country where you couldn’t see your neighbors house and I rode all over the country side going house to house getting pledges. I worked my butt off but it paid off because I took 1st place. I won a cherry red Schwinn 10-speed bike. I was so proud. I was even on the front page of the newspaper:-) I look back now and realize those were some of the best times of my life. Thanks for the walk down memory lane and for making such a cute stamp set. I will be able to relive those bike memories each time I use it.

Well, honestly I didn’t get my first bike until I was 32 or 33. My husband taught me how to ride (OMG it’s SO much harder when you’re an adult!) – I was determined to learn before my son did! So that bike is a basic navy blue adult-size bike. I still think my legs are too short for it, but I did conquer the darn thing!

I received my first and only bike when I was 10. It was a bright perfect red and I didn’t have company when I rode it but I loved biking around my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I only had for two years because shortly after we moved, it was stolen. I’m hoping to save up soon so I could buy one now that I’m an adult!

My first bike was HOT PINK with a flowered banana seat. It was my first bike, that was not a hammydown from one of my siblings, for my birthday. I was very excited to have my very own, that I told my mom “if it’s not hot pink I don’t want one”….being the youngest I didn’t get a lot of brand new things, so I was specific on this one, this time.

Thanks so much for the chance to win! My Papertrey Ink wishlist is getting SO loooong….

My first bike was a red two wheeler with training wheels, and I received it for my 5th birthday. We lived in the Marina neighborhood of San Francisco at the time, and I loved riding around on the very wide sidewalks and driveways with my friend, Becky, who lived upstairs. The bike in the new set looks just like my current Trek “sidewalk bike” I guess I’ve never really outgrown that first bike!
Shelley Germann says

I spend alot of time slipping off the peddles and running with my feet. It was very difficult but I loved riding it and going fast. If I had a bike it would be an old fashion Schwinn with a basket in the front!

My first bike was a Schwinn cruiser, and I felt so nerdy on it, so I saved up baby-sitting money to buy a 10-speed. My bike was blue with streamers coming out of the handles and a pretty white basket with flowers on it! I rode many bikes because I have 6 siblings…I remember a blue or purple bike and the lovely handlebars with fringe to run my fingers through. And of course a bell to ring and ring and ring!
Thanks for another wonderful release! Incredible inspiration from everyone! And thanks for the chance to win a gift certificate to add to my stamping collection!

I can’t remember much about the specifics, just that when i was about 5 y/o I awoke on Christmas morn and there it was in front of the Christmas tree from Santa! Somewhere there is 16mm film, and now I am curious to dig it out and see exactly what that bike looked like!

Tricycles count…right?
It was shiny red…with a white seat…
and it still resides at my moms house…
though not as shiny as it once was.
And I remember teaching myself to ride without training wheels by pushing off the front porch on my cousins bike…
and zooming straight down a hill…
crashing into the back yard…
many, many times until I finally got it.
I can’t believe my mom allowed me to do that…
but then she usually found me hiding in trees. 🙂

My first bike was a hand-me-down that was red and white. It was perfect for the training wheels. My first bike of my own was a pink Huffy with tassels from the handle bars and a very puffy pink seat. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and thanks for the chance to win! Papertrey is the best!

The first bike that I really remember riding was yellow and had a banana seat. I thought it was such a cool bike. Of course it was yellow so that it could be handed over to my brother when he was ready for it. Mom was too practical to get me anything pink or purple since it would reduce it’s value by half.
Martha D says
My first bike was baby blue with a white plastic wicker basket on the front. Pretty sure there were plastic flowers on the basket also. Still remember learning to ride it without training wheels in the cul-de-sac we lived on at the time.

My first bike was apple green, with a white banana seat and white handles with sparkly streamers! How I loved that bike! I taught myself how to ride it by pulling it up my long driveway, climbing on, and pedaling as fast as I could as the bike hurdled towards our garage door, which was at the bottom of a hill.
Many a scraped knee that summer 🙂

I remember my first bike was green with training wheels. It took me awhile before I was brave enough to go without training wheels but once I did…. We use to put a clothespin and a playing card on the spokes so it would sound like a “motorcycle” as we rode. At least we thought that was cool. I wouldn’t mind having a bike like that with a basket (minus the training wheels and noisemaker).
Helen Lebrett says
My first bicycle was a 7th birthday gift. I was so surprised and happy!! It was black and silver adult sized bike, and the kick-stand was so stiff that I had to pull it down with my hands, but that thing lasted till I graduated from college! My parents paid 50 dollars for it, and in 1965 that was a very expensive bicycle, so I guess that is why it held up so well!! I loved that bike!
Deborah Wilson says
Wow…wish I could remember what it looked like. I do remember it had “tassels” on the handlebar ends. I loved bike riding!
Kathy H says
My first bicycle was a blue and silver second hand girl’s 2 wheeler that was too tall for me. If I sat on the seat my feet wouldn’t touch the pedals let alone touch ground so I was scared to death to ride it (I was only 6) My grandpa attached wood blocks to the pedals thinking I would be able to reach but he forgot that I still couldn’t touch the ground. Then he even attached a basket to the front handle bars so I could put my dolls in it but still I wouldn’t ride that bike! One day when I turned 7 and no one was around to help me, I hopped on it and rode off!!
Victoria C says

My first bicycle was on old faded blue hand me down from my aunt. It was 1960 and I was 10 years old. Within a week I was riding up and down those dirt roads. I had to pedal standing up because if I sat on the seat my feet didn’t reach the pedals. That bicycle might have been old and faded, but I was so proud of my bike. Ahhh….good memories!

I was five years old and had just got out of hospital with rheumatic fever. I had to stay in my Mum and Dad’s bed during the day. Dad brought this small two wheeled bike with faded blue paint up to the bedroom window. I didn’t see that it was secondhand and faded at the time all I saw was this fantastic bike. Dad said when I got better I could have it. As you can imagine I couldn’t wait to get my hot little hands on it. I first had to learn to ride it.
