Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the Papertrey Fourth Anniversary festivities!
Back in February 2010, during our 3rd Anniversary celebration, I announced a new challenge series we would conduct with you, our customers, in lieu of our ongoing Guest Star Stamper program. The way in which we had planned to operate the Make It Monday challenges never came to fruition because it depended upon the launch of our new website. Since switching to a new web company to complete the new site, we still have a few months before it will be ready.
But we have been SO anxious to get the Make It Monday series off the ground, we've decided to revamp the original concept rather than delaying even longer while waiting for the website completion.
Today I get to announce how this brand new program will work. Something that will bring everyone together on a weekly basis… design team members, customers, beginners and seasoned stampers alike.
I introduce to you…
Make It Mondays are a special feature that Erin Lincoln & I have been working on (think of her as resident techno guru!). The Make It Monday challenge series. Every Monday there will be a technique video posted to our YouTube channel by a Papertrey Team Member or myself, showcasing a nice balance of basics and new innovations to cater to everyone's skill levels. (The video will also be posted on my blog every Monday)
The contest will be hosted in two places, through Facebook and my blog. This will allow people to post a link to a project they create using that weeks technique easily, depending on the type of "social media" they prefer.
(You can find us on Facebook HERE.)
We will then proceed to "tweet" a project of special mention every night, something we are calling "Inspiration Hour".
(You can begin following us on Twitter with our username, @Papertreyink1 or CLICK HERE.)
We will also have a special "Inspiration Hour" forum where people can stop by to chat with one another during that designated time, perhaps even virtually stamp together. At the end of the week (on the following Monday) a grand prize winner will be selected from the "Inspiration Hour" tweeted projects that were highlighted throughout the week. The grand prize will be a FREE Papertrey stamp set of the winner's choice!
As I said earlier, this challenge series will take place EVERY Monday! Just think, a weekly video dose from your favorite Papertrey Team members! I know I am ready to be inspired!
Erin Lincoln has tackled the very first Make It Monday video and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share it with you today!
Don't you just LOVE the whole concept of this Go-To Sentiment card that Erin shared today? I could hardly wait to take the challenge myself, so I created my own version below!
I decided to pair my version up with Turning a New Leaf and Butterfly Dreams! I created my sentiment "collage" using images from Big Birthday Wishes, Inside & Out: Birthday and 2011 Birthday Tags. The large sentiment is stamped in True Black and the surrounding sentiments in VersaMark.
I stamped a few leaves from Turning a New Leaf with Ripe Avocado ink along the edge of the card front. I die-cut Raspberry Fizz cardstock with the Butterfly die and stamped it with one of the coordinating images from Butterfly Dreams using VersaMark ink. I layered a punched butterfly on top of it along with a row of pink rhinestones.
I stamped an additional leaf with Ripe Avocado beside the focal sentiment and added a trio of pink rhinestone "berries" to accent it.
The entire card front was created with Simply Chartreuse cardstock. I rounded the four corners and swiped Fresh Snow ink around it's edges. The final piece was attached to a Ripe Avocado card front.
After seeing Erin's video, I'm certain that you are itching to go through your stamps as well to find common sentiments and create your own combinations! We would LOVE for you to play along with this challenge! There are two ways to to play along!
- Create your version of a Go-To Sentiment Card.
- Post your project on your blog, in your gallery or on any other photo-hosting site (such as photobucket or flickr).
- Visit our Facebook page HERE and add your link to our Wall. While you're there, be sure to "like" us!!!
- You have until 7am EST, Monday, February 14th to add your link and qualify for the contest.
Facebook will be the central "hub" for the Make It Monday challenges, however, if you prefer not to participate via Facebook, we will be providing an InLinkz list each week within the corresponding blog post that highlights the weekly video. We have done so for this week's challenge below…
- Create your version of a Go-To Sentiment Card.
- Post your project on your blog, in your gallery or on any other photo-hosting site (such as photobucket or flickr).
- Add the direct link to your project on our Inlinkz list……>HERE<……
- You have until 7am EST, Monday, February 14th to add your link and qualify for the contest.
One of the "tweeted" projects highlighted this week will be selected as our grand prize winner! Normally the Make It Monday challenge winner will earn a FREE stamp set of their choice…
…..but, since this IS our 4th Anniversary celebration, we thought we could go just a bit BIGGER….
How about a…
$250 Papertrey Gift Certificate!
I bet you're already thinking about how you would like to spend it if you win!
- This contest will end at 7am EST, Monday, February 14th.
- You may enter as many times as you like, but each project should have it's own separate link so we don't miss anything.
- The Grand Prize Winner will be announced no later than noon EST that day on our February 2011 Release Winners Page, Facebook & Twitter.
AND ONE LAST THING!
We would LOVE to hear any suggestions or requests regarding what kinds of topics & tutorials you would like to see in upcoming Make It Monday videos. Please be sure to leave a comment below so we can start assembling our list!
Thank you for stopping by today and good luck to everyone on the contest! And we hope to see you back on day four of this fabulous 4th Anniversary celebration! You won't want to miss our announcement tomorrow!
Dawn McVey has created her own version of a Go-To Sentiment card!

I love the Make it Monday Series already! What a great way to stir up some ideas! Erin, thank you for the inspiration of mixing several sets! I love how you do that. I would like to see videos of Debbie’s coloring with copics, Maile using the dies in her unique ways, Dawn talking about choosing and balancing colors in her projects, and mixing the patterns of paper, and lastly ideas for the impression plates. Thanks so much!

DebbieD says
Just what I need to make my Mondays!
Anne-Marie Tribbett says
I looove watching the videos and I love this card and can’t wait to see more but was wondering if it would be too much to ask for a pdf of just the card and ingrediants. I would love to keep a file with all the wonderful projects created. I am not creative at all and tend to scraplift most things I do, unfortunately. Thanks again for providing all the inspiration! Anne-Marie
Sue Coubrough says
Great idea!! I would love to see a video on different ways to use all of the tags in the tag sets. I love them but get stuck always doing a variation on the same method. I also agree with a colouring video from Debbie!
Thanks!
Laura says
I love the idea of having a video every Monday! All of you are so talented. I enjoyed so much Erin’s first video and I love Nichole’s take. I can’t wait to play with my stamps and do something with lot of sentiments.
Mary (Happy Now) says
EXCITING! I’ve been wondering about Make It Mondays! Yay!

Cindy Holshouser says
I think it would be fun to have a type of sketch challenge that would be based on one of the PTI dies.
Eveline van Heijst says
What a perfect way to start the Monday morning. I’m off to the gym now but I’ll have plenty to think about while working out.
Eveline.
Alice Roushia says
I know there are probably many tutorials on this, but I would like to see a tutorial on how to mask and use the Copic markers, with the die cuts.
freckleface says
Excellent news!!! And a perfect way to start the week! I would love to learn more about colouring as I am always a little nervous and need to master the art of blending! Thanks again for all these initiatives!
ValerieC says
WOW! What fun! I wish I was more technically savvy. I don’t have a blog or know how to upload my creations but, I do love enjoying everyone else’s creations. Maybe someday my kids will teach me how.
Rachel says
This is great and so exciting! Can’t wait to play along. There are so many tutorials I would love to see, but I think my number 1 would a Copic coloring tutorial from Nichole! Your coloring is stunning and I’d love to hear about your techniques.
Rachel says
Oooh, so more thoughts – stamping on die cut images – I know this is very simple and I have read lots of different techniques, but I’m still hopeless at stamping your gorgeous circle images on die cut circles! Also, I think it would be interesting to watch any of the DT members just walk through how they put a card together. It would be great to then have a go at their styles (e.g. How does Dawn conceptualize a card & then put it together flawlessy – then the challenge could be to CASE Dawn…) Hope that makes sense – I’m still drinking my morning coffee!
eleftheria says
Now these news are just wonderful.I think it s the beginning of an era!!!
Rema Timm says
Great contest and great prize! Can’t wait to get started…..
Mindy Waters says
Ok, wow, knock your socks off kind of news!!! Thanks! I know that setting up programs like these takes lots of time and I’m so glad that PTI cares about their customers enough to do this for us–yay!!! I learn so much from technique videos and what is cool about this company is not only the fact that you put out innovative stamp designs, but also innovative card designs as well…and now we get to learn from the best 🙂 I am soooooooooo excited!

I adore video tutorials. I would love to see more tutorials about colouring and about using those fabulous dies. Some colour challenges would be grate, too.
I’m just happy that finally we have the chance to learn from the PTI team.
Marie / Legojenta says
I have a question: Must we use Papertrey Ink products on our card? I don’t have any of your products yet, although I soo want some =)

Kelly Schirmer says
I loved Erin’s video! More, Erin, more! It’s fun to watch how other people stamp :). I would also love to see a video from Betsy or Melissa just talking through how they make one of their wonderfully layered creations, and from Jessica Witty showcasing glitter like she did in PaperCrafts Magazine!
Jessica says
Yay! Using facebook is so modern! This video idea is fantastic!!! I will be playing along for sure! I would LOVE a Copic coloring video from Debbie. I love Erin’s video this week and would love more videos that get me to use my stamps in ways that aren’t always “obvious.”
Kris says
Great idea! You can never get enough reinforcement on design techniques!
Jeannine says
i don’t have a blog nor am i able to upload photos. i am looking forward to the videos though.
Diane Hover says
I have to agree with coloring with Copics…I just got my Copics for Xmas…I know there are tutorials everywhere…but “we” want yours!!!
Martha S. says
What a great idea! And a great way to get a stash of cards built up! Off to watch the video and decide what to make!
JoAnn Dettbarn says
Good thing I have Mondays off for now. I have a feeling I may know how I will be spending them…
Suzanne D. (*suzanne*) says
I love Make It Monday already. The video was great because Erin didn’t just say what she was going to do; she explained *why* she was doing certain things to achieve balance. I’d love a video on choosing embellishments for a card – how do you know when to choose buttons, rhinestones or pearl stick-ons? Felt or paper flowers? Satin or grosgrain ribbon? Thanks!
Janine says
I am glad that you have another avenue other than FaceBook to post these challenges.
Lisa Henke says
wow! what a great way to keep us inspired. can’t wait to play along. and your card….STUNNING!
Carol says
Make it Mondays is so exciting. I would love tutorials on coloring with Copic markers and also on more masculine cards.

Loved both your cards I want to start right now to make a card …so inspiring!
Ramona West says
How can something so simple be such a great idea. AND, why in the world didn’t I think of that! My mind never stops with the ideas, yet there are always new ones being shared. This is an awesome idea. It also goes to prove that even the simpliest ideas should be shared because there is always someone to enjoy it. PLUS, what a doggone cute card!
Laura Pryor says
Just watched the video and I have to say it’s pretty cool getting to watch a designer from PTI make a card! Really great idea…even better that there’s a contest!! Looking forward to next week!
wendy says
I am very excited about the video Tutorials. This one was awesome thanks.
Super Jen says
Interesting. Thank you for providing a Facebook alternative. I have studiously avoided joining. Don’t have a smart phone so tweeting, which isn’t my style anyway, makes no sense. I also don’t text. I know, what kind of backward hick am I? Well, I’m a software engineer with 2 little kids so I guess by the end of the work day, I’ve had enough of technology and really just don’t have time for the additional distractions!
I’m not much of a technique junkie. I like to keep things clean and simple. But will see if you come up with something along those lines that motivates me! Your team usually does.
Looking forward to the new web site.
Rhonda H says
I’m soooo loving this new feature. I already loved PTI and Erin (from years ago at CK), so it is a perfect combo. What a terrific idea to use different styles of sentiments all together. I love typography (and I think PTI has some of the coolest fonts and mixes), so this card is right up my alley. Cannot wait to see more. I’ll be tuning in to the “PTI network” to start my week! You guys are great. It is amazing how you just keep crankin’ out the great new ideas!! Keep it up!
Nancy Lempinen says
I really like the idea of the Make it Mondays it’s really good inspiration and it’s so much easier to actually see something being created. I love your new label for MIM too.
Your prizes are fabulous as well.
Thanks,
D Golly says
This sound wonderful. It may finally mean I’ll need to get more savvy and start posting my projects somewhere.
As for the tutorial I would like, it would be on coloring images with copics. I LOVE the way the images look, but I am unsure how to begin.
Jeanne says
What a wonderful way to get our creative juices flowing! A terrific Mojo Monday! I am excited to have a Papertrey Challenge each week. I know that my “techno” skills will have to be sharpened, too. Exciting to see how we can stretch and reach to new levels. Love it! Now, I will have to get started and see what I create!
Sunny Penn says
Oh my world.. I trully love the idea of Making Mondays!! What an inspiration!! I enjoyed watching Erin’s first video and can’t wait for more ideas to incorporate in my cards and projects.
Martha S. says
And totally off-topic, hootsuite.com is a great online manager for facebook and twitter accounts. You can create a post and have it post to both of your accounts as well as schedule posts to go out at a later date. I love it to manage my work accounts on FB/twitter and I love that I don’t have to download anything to my computer.
And you can also invite “team members” to your different feeds in hootsuite so that others can post to the pages as well!
There are probably other programs that will do the same thing, but I thought this might be helpful!
Julie L Masse says
Love the concept – it sounds like so much fun!! Off to watch the video! 🙂
Debbie R. says
I just watched Erin’s video and can’t wait til next Monday to watch another one! I would love to see how to use the tag sale dies on a card front. Thanks for all the hard work you girls do.
DebbieK says
What a great video. Can’t wait to see more! Love your products and your DT is fabulous!!!
Tami M. (tmarie) says
So excited about this, I’m looking forward to playing along!
Diane Jaquay says
I just could not be more excited about this new program!!! I love challenges, but no challenge could be more exciting than a PTI challenge! Thank you for starting this now instead of waiting 🙂 As for ideas for videos, there are so many! Using stamps in unusual ways, coloring techniques, background building, I could go on and on. I know you’ll come up with some great ones!
erin thiem says
This sounds like fun! Great way to start the week. I need help coloring… would love some basic tips.
Makalah says
A tutorial on different ways to use ribbon and bows in projects would be great.
Question: Do we need to only use PTI stamps to play along? I’m making my first PTI order this week as soon as the butterfly die is in stock, but won’t have it to compete in the first week’s challenge.
mandy says
I love challenges! Some that I think would be interesting, would be color challenges, ones using various products in innovative ways (felt, buttons, ribbon), or maybe using those very versatile PTI supplies in non-card projects (maybe even non-paper projects, such as using the dies with the felt to make something).
Sue McRae says
I enjoyed todays video and all the little tips about balance and colour. I’d like to see a video on incorporating embellishments like ribbon, buttons, gems etc. onto cards. I have a hard time adding these to cards without it seeming like it was an after thought. I’d also like a video on different ways to use the flower dies.

This is such a great idea. This will definately help me see other ways to use PTI stamps and color choices.
Joyce says
What a great idea. Inspiration dujour PTI style! Love it!
This is a great idea and need to send a Thank-you this week. I’m going to give it a try. And love the BD version of the card.
traci nachtrab says
I would love a video on Nichole’s ribbon techniques. I’m sure they’re simple, but I end glue-dotting my fingers together whenever I try to create one of her pretty ribbon loops. Help!

I find video tutorials so incredibly helpful and inspirational that you know I am really pumped by this announcement. I place group orders with PTI for two other friends and myself every month and we just started monthly get togehters to use our PTI stamps. We meet this Friday and I know what my card idea will be. Thank you Make It Mondays!!! LOL. Now I just have to open a Flickr account so I can post my projects. I don’t have any specific topic ideas right now – but find any tutorial helpful – even just seeing how different people ink up their stamps. 🙂 Yay for PTI Anniversary months.
joanna schloss says
I loved your old tutorials! I would love to see a tutorial on how you create your designs.
and
i would…to see you trim, color, and select color palettes! You are amazing and i would love to have your sense of style
Susie says
This is a great idea! Thank you Erin for the tutorial today. I particularly liked the information Erin gave regarding graphic design techniques (off setting, different fonts, designing in three’s). It’s always nice to see someone else execute those techniques so the user has a better idea what it means. I have Valentine cards to make today and I don’t have a lot of time. This is a perfect way to get several done and in the mail.
laura Webb says
OOOOhhh how I love to see PTI in action! Thank you 🙂
ER says
Very fun!
Would love to see videos on Copics basics and color coordinating
Kimberli Sarsfield says
Oh, I am so looking forward to Mondays now! What a great surprise. I absolutely love your take on Erin’s sentiment card. I love how you stamped all the sentiments in VersaMark except for the main one. So simple, yet so pretty.
nichole says
what a great idea. i love learning new techniques and tricks.
Rita says
The Make It Monday Challenge was just the kickstart I needed. What a fun technique and a great way to get me back to actually posting projects on my “collecting-cobwebs” blog. You inspired me to post two projects in one day! Unbelievable.
clare says
SO exciting! Just wanted to know if we can use non PTI products in the card…?
Dani says
Please, please, PLEASE make a tutorial on how to use the Bloom Builder dies. I am beyond frustrated with these dies 🙁
Deb says
This is great! I am always up for tutorials. I would love some on sketches or how to use our PTI products in ways they weren’t intended. Tips and tricks on using felt and ribbon. Thanks for a chance to win!
Allyson says
What a fun idea! Except, I don’t know jack squat about Twitter – guess I’ll have to learn! 😛 Other than that, I am WAAAAAY excited to see more tutorials from the best in the business, and to try my hand at all these techniques that are new for me. Love all these fun surprises! 😉
Q says
Great video – you may want to consider providing closed captions for your deaf and hard of hearing audience or a short summary of key points you’ve highlighted. YouTube gives you a variety of ways to upload captions and captions can be turned on and off by users.
Joyce says
I just posed my first 3 cards for this challenge on fb. It says they will apear under “other” but I’m not sure how to see them?
Ohhh Snap says
Love the video, now Mondays are Motivating :D. I’d love to learn more about Copics, design processes, embellishing well anything you think we should know :D. TFS!
Katie Piotrowski says
How fun and what a great way to get myself creating regularly! I could spend that $250 in like 2 minutes. LOL!
Judy says
The tutorial was great. I am a visual person and feel empowered after I see a tutorial and realize I was making a technique more diffucult than it needed to be. I would also like to see a tutorial on masking. Thank you very much.
kellijo says
OMGOODNESS!!!! That card is GORGEOUS Nicole… WHY WHY WHY have I never thought to make those sentiments like that??? EVER???? **sigh** I am jumpin up and down THRILLED with this idea!!!! This is wonderful news! I can hardly contain my excitement. I’ll love anything at all that you guys show us – and I’d love to see something having to do with Copic markers. Thanks for all you do.

i’m so excited about the make it monday series!!! i love the challenge it will bring, and it will also give me an excuse to get crafty! 🙂 i’m not sure if this is possible, but i’d love to see a video about the creative process of designing a card! thanks for all the wonderful fun! 🙂
jeanc says
This video was well-executed. It was easy to watch and she was very clear and easy to understand. I appreciate seeing her actually use the Cuttlebug. I purchased one just for PTI dies and haven’t used it yet. This is helpful and will be something fun to look forward to each week.
Paula Laird says
Love the video and love this program! Yay! I’d love to see a video on all the different ways y’all use glitter. When I use glitter it is not nearly as attractive! A Maile video on using buttons? Color and sketch challenges are great. You all make a lot of cards without a focal image so to speak. (Graphic type cards, I guess?) I’d love to see a video on that. Can’t wait to give this week’s challenge a go!
Karli says
I’m just glad you have given those of us who chose NOT to FB the linky option 🙂 so that we can still play along. Thanks!
tanna says
Oh I love the videos! I would love to see one from the perspective of creating a card. How do you decide what layout to use? How do you chose a color palette? It all comes together so beautifully for the DT, but I wonder how those million little choices are made that result in perfection. Thanks so much for doing this and expanding our PTI experience.
Maureen says
I would love to see felt and paper flowers made with Betsy’s blossom dies…I find the felt makes very thick flowers and wonder how to use these on cards or if I should stick to one layered paper ones. Thanks so much 🙂
