Each day, you put one more ornament on the tree until Christmas eve. My two sons would take turns (one had the even days, one had the odd) and they have continued this tradition ever after they went away to college. They would catch up when they got home for break. I’m hoping to duplicate the calendar for each of them as they go out on their own.
KariLynn says
My favorite piece of decor is the Angel on the top of my tree. As it was one my mom purchased and used every year on our tree growing up. That’s a tough question. I love all my holiday decorations, but especially my Christmas decorations. We’ve been collecting Dickens Village for a few years now. I love putting that out because my DH helps me do it, laying out the buildings, landscaping, and everything just so. We put the Christmas music on and have a really good time doing it.

I’d have to say the homemade ornaments we put on our tree. For years I participated in ornament exchanges with friends, plus there are all the special ornaments my children have made. Almost every ornament on our tree holds a special memory of fun times and dear friends. I love that 🙂
Cindi Loizeaux says
My favorite is my Lizzie High Nativity set. It is so simple and rustic yet so beautiful. I put the angel on a doll stand so she is raised and looks like she is flying and I have an electric candle that sits behind Baby Jesus. I take it out first and put it away last.
Chong McAfee says
A crocheted santa, with a bag of gifts and glasses. I didn’t make it but bought it at a craft fair. So much work went into it and it is my favorite deco.
Char says
I have a very special ornament of a red, feather cardinal in a birdnest. It was given to me more than 35 years ago by a dear friend who passed away not long after she gave it to me. I’ve told my children about the friendship and now have grandchildren to tell the same story to. It goes on my tree every year.
KellieC says
My piece of Holiday Decor that will be out every year is something we recently purchased. About 5 years ago, we were in Oberammergau, Germany and went shopping for some hand crafted wood items. We purchased a complete table top nativity set with all hand carved items. It is absolutely gorgeous! We then picked up a few extra italian baskets with bread and fish to add to it. there are baskets of all types of offerings for the Christ child, hand carved statues of the Maggi, Holy family, animals, angels hanging from the top rafters. I just love it!
Lea Ann says
My favorite decor piece(s) are the wee little blown glass mushrooms that my mother purchased in Germany when she was a young woman. They are the most delicate glass, with bits of moss at the base, and clip to the smallest of sprigs on our Christmas tree. Only a few remain now, and we treasure and enjoy them each season!
Jodie White says
I have an animated Santa claus that I put out every year because it was a gift from my dear grandmother who passed away a couple of years ago and christmas with family was very important to her so to me that animated santa is much more special and it makes me feel like she is still with us celebrating christmas each year.

It is cheap. And will most likely not make it until I turn 50. But every year I have to take out my German Pyramid.
In 2001, 2002 and 2004 I got to travel to Germany on mission trips and in 2002 we visited a small town full of Christmas shops. And there I bought my 20 dollar pyramid. And candles that were too big big.
But every year I pull it out and I remember the beautiful country, the amazing people I met, my travelmates who have scattered across the country and relive a little piece of Germany.
Gladys says
Oh I love Christmas tree and reindeer! And Stocking too to stuff presents! Love your release! Can’t wait to purchase! Way to go PTI!

Sheila says
I would have to say it is our Christmas tree using ornaments we’ve had ever since we got married almost 20 years ago. Our anniversary is 3 days before Christmas and it’s our 20th this year and I am planning on making something special with stockings to have to display every year from now on. We have our new lab this year too so he’ll have to have one too…lol. Thanks for the chance to win.
Kelly Schirmer says
I love seeing our Christmas tree with all of the ornaments…the ones that I have had for years, ones given to me by husband when we were dating, some from students, some my husbands’s sister made when he was little…and now the girls’ preschool/kindergarten masterpieces. I love that each time they come out of the box, I have a special memory for each one.
Michelle MNS says
Gosh there are many to choose from though for me it would have to be my 1st Family Christmas Ornament that has my Son’s name along with my husband and myself dated the year we became a family. My favorite bit of holiday decor is a framed construction paper snowman, pieces attached with brads, that I made in nursery school. My mom made my husband and I stockings out of navy blue Dickies jackets well before we were married. They have our names on them on trucker-type patches, and she worked the zippers and pockets from the jackets into the design of the stocking.
My husband always wore a blue Dickies jacket with punk band patches on it, so it meant a lot that she pulled all that together, and that she knew he was so special!
pcm says
ok, hands down it’s my tree. it stands just 18 inches tall but has a homemade snowflake that I made in college, small decorations that i have gathered over the years and lights that plug in. I just take it out of the box, plug it in and it’s ready to go!
Jackie Solomon says
My grandmother, who passed away when I was young, had a ceramic city complete with a bunch of buildings, sleigh riders, a train and a skating rink with skaters which she made. My grandfather passed the city on to me last year because it’s getting to be too much work for him to set up. He comes out every year to celebrate Christmas day and was so happy to see it all set up at my house. It means the world to me that I get that beautiful city and get to share it with him as well.

Over the years as we have grown up and moved on and had spouses and children of our own, she has made each addition to the family one of the socks. The Christmas tree, I suppose it may be a bit big to be considered “a piece of decor”. The whole process of setting it up, decorating it, listening to carols throughout, lighting the lights, then finally placing the presents underneath it- it just doesn’t get more fun!
Joyce Gleason says
Gee-which holiday? The creche is the most important piece that is put out every year for Christmas. It’s a Hummel set that I’ve had for almost 40 years. Some pieces have broken and been repaired and my dad made the wooden stable years ago. I love the santas and the snowmen, too but the creche with baby Jesus is the most important of all. I love the new wreath set Nichole…it’s the prettiest one I’ve ever seen and the samples were marvelous!

The ornaments on my tree from when I was a child. My mom saved all the special ornaments that I made in elementary school and gave them to me when I moved away and had my first Christmas tree on my own. I love putting them on the tree each year!

Since I’ve had my kids, I made a countdown calendar with little drawers & I love filling that up with treats, etc. for them to open up each day. They absoultely love it too! My 2nd fav thing is the golden crown for thorns we place on the tree each year to remind us of our reason for celebrating. Everytime I take that out of the ornament box each year it reminds me to be grateful for all the blessings we’ve had throughout the year. Gosh, it would be a total dream to win tonight!

My favorite is the special box that holds all the ornaments that have either been given to me as gifts, made by my children throughout the years or ones we’ve made together. It’s great to look back and see what they have made over the years.

I have an antique German Christmas advent, that, when the candles are lit, has a turning “windmill.” It is very precious and sentimental to me and so I keep it packed away from my little ones. I have plans to bring it out when my youngest is or 3 (she’s 1 right now)! I still look at the picture every Christmas and remember Christmases past!
Anji Settles says
My husband and four sons (daughter is too little) set up my tree and use faux fruit and some little plaques that I made with the Fruits of the Spirit listed on them and decorate our tall and skinny artificial christmas tree. I’m not sure if it’s the decoration or just watching the most special men in my life have such a giggle doing it?!!!
Karen H. says
When we moved – since we knew it would be temporary, and much smaller – we stored much of our non-essentials (including holiday decorations). But I made sure I brought the stockings (even mine & my husbands, even though they never get filled) because that was always my favorite part of Christmas morning. My girls, however, love decorating the tree. So we bought a tiny tinsel tree with tiny ornaments. They love getting it out and decorating it.
Emily Leiphart says
My favourite piece of holiday decor is the beautiful, sparkly gold bird that goes on top of our tree! It has a feathery tail that moves gracefully with the air currents. The movement entertains both our cat and our toddler!

I love decorating for the holidays so much that I never want to put them away! Thanks for another great release and an awesome prize package tonight.

A hooked rug wall hanging of Santa. It was a project my mother got me interested in about 40 years ago. We worked on it every night after dinner until it was finished. My daddy even joined in a night or two. I thought it was soooooo cool. I still hang it up every year and remember the fun time I had making it with my parents. I miss them.

Ok, this made me giggle. It is actually at work. I’ve been there 20 years and it has come out every year I’ve been there. It is a pathetic spiral metal icicle with a single jingle bell on the end. It is droopy and hangs a bit off kilter but it marks the beginning of the season and we all love it! It is the lab dingle ball!
Laura Fitzgerald says

I have a collection of crystal snowflakes that my mother started for my daughter when she was born. Every year she would get another one. When she passed away two years ago, we continued the tradition and I love putting them on the tree with my daughter every year because it reminds me of her and makes me feel that she is looking at us and wishing us well. I love the way the tree lights make the crystal sparkle.
Lisa Henke says
I could probably list 20 different things, but I always love setting out my handmade card tin (well, I didn’t make the tin, but I embellished it). I always keep it filled with last years cards and we always have so much fun re-reading them and looking at the photos. I also can’t wait to fill it with the new ones as they come in. I just adore Holiday cards! Mail time is always a happy part of my day the month of Dec.
Wendy Todd says
My fave holiday decoration is definitely our tree. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always loved setting up the tree and decorating it with my beautiful mum. My favorite decor item is my fake Christmas tree. When my husband and I moved in together we bought it for our first Christmas. We didn’t have a car so we had to carry the big box on the city bus and walk about 5 blocks to get it back to our place. It was the start of us making our own traditions and collecting our first ornaments. I love getting that tree out each year and setting it up with him.

I love to decorate our 2 story winding staircase with greens, lots of white twinkle lights and ribbons, bows, and nosegays of ornaments and baubles. It has big sparkley snowflakes also(since we rarely see the real ones here in NC)I created it a few years ago, and store it all wound up in a big box so we can put it up easily year after year. It’s visible from outside our front door, so everyone driving or walking by can see the whole staircase. It’s so pretty and fairy-tale-like!

I have a very sentimental old red flocked mouse that I had as a kid, and I put him out every year on top of our clock. He’s lost all the flock on his nose, and he’s got to be 30+ years old now, but he’s so cheezy, he’s cute!

Donna Dirienzo says
I love to put out a nativity set that was my grandmothers. It was made in Germany in the 1800s. The angel is missing a hand and the three kings look pretty worn, but the handcarved wooden stable is beautiful. My very favorite and most cherished holiday decorations that I can’t wait to put out every year is my Nana’s Santa collection. Kathy McDonald says
My collection of snowmen! I put them all on the buffet in the dining room, and I they make me smile every time I walk past them. Many were gifts from special friends. One reason they are a favorite is because I feel like I can leave them out past the holidays, because they aren’t specifically a Christmas decoration.

My nativity!
Carol says
Ah, the advent wreath. When my daughter was young living at home, we would light it each Sunday, say a prayer and sing carols, one the first week, two the next, etc., until Christmas eve- then it was always Silent Night. Now that it is often just the two of us, we don’t sing always, but we light it and watch the soft glow and get ready and we do at least sing Silent Night.

That is a great question, of course we always do the same stocking and our ornaments are hung on the tree with care and love, but my favorite decor, is one that we have done for the last 5 years… they are hand-cut snowflakes. My kids and I will spend a whole afternoon cutting up these white snowflakes and then we hang them up everywhere… as my kids are getting older I don’t now how long this tradition will last, but I will always hold these moments in my heart.

Definitely the Christmas tree with all of the different ornaments. Most of the ornaments have sentimental value. I think of the individuals that either gave me the ornaments or made them. Some of them are quite precious.

Stephanie Mino says
I just love, love, love my snowmen sets from Partylite candles. I was a demonstrator years ago and collected every one of the candle holders and snuffers. I have a a beautiful radiator with a cover that sits next to our accented living room wall that is painted a deep cranberry. The whole set of them just look wonderful on it when I have all of the tealights burning in them. As an added bonus, when the tree comes down, I leave the snowmen out because, after all, snow in PA lasts until May! 😉
Tammy says
Undoubtedly our tree. Watching my children delight in unwrapping each ornament and playing with the tinsel and beads. Decorating the tree and having it with us through that season is one of the best times of the whole year.

I have two favorite ornaments that I put on our tree each year. The first is a pair of felt baby shoes that we bought the year our first son was born 38 years ago. Ok, I am not a decorative type person (I generally don’t decorate much for any holiday or season) but my favorite Christmas decoration is my nativity scene. It signifies that Jesus Christ is the reason we have Christmas at all.
Mimi K says
I bought a Fontanini nativity when my children were young. They loved to play with it and tell the story of Jesus. Now, my grandchildren are doing the same. I think it’s important to have something the children can enjoy and learn the real reason that we celebrate Christmas.
Becs Attwood says
Nearly 10 years ago when my husband and I had just moved into our own house I got hooked on making decorations by pinning beads & sequins to polystyrene balls. The few ornaments from that period that are still in one piece are brought out every year as a reminder of the first decorations I made for my very own tree.
Jenny says
White lights twinkling on the house and in the windows 🙂

I have a momento (memory) tree that is framed that was my moms. It is decorated with momento’s from my mom’s life (class ring, special earrings, etc.). It lights up and is so pretty. Actually, I keep it out all year, but only turn the little lights on it at Christmas time. My mom’s no longer with us, so I feel her ever so close during the holidays.

Beth SIlaika says
The last ornament we put on the tree is the ornament Todd’s mom gave to us. She passed away in 1999, and this ornament was from 1993, the year we got married. It is a little chipmunk listening to a tape player – and the button you press holds a recording of Todd’s mom’s voice – wishing us a blessed Christmas. It is the thing that warms my heart every year.
Lorus says
A few years ago, my sister bought our family a Schleich Nativity. Schleich is a toy company. The nativity is beautiful – it is prettier than our porcelain nativity was. My hand carved nativity set! It’s the first thing to go out every year!
Steph H says
A hand-made felt Nativity wall hanging that was a gift from my elderly aunt when I was first married in 1972. She has long since gone on to live with the Lord, and the piece is getting worn and a bit tattered, but it has such sentimental value, I put it up yearly.
Sherrie T says
That would DEFINITELY have to be our tree. I love unpacking every ornament and the excitement my family shares reliving its origin. It doesn’t matter if it was handmade, one that was given as a gift, or picked up while on vacation, etc. They all bring happy memories and help to launch our festive season.

I used it as a tree topper last year and it was so fantastic!

21 years ago my husband went to a favourite spot he would take our small children for picnics and scavenging. This time he picked out perfect branches from arbutus trees and small fir trees to assemble wooden reindeer for our front yard. One he even threaded a wire through to the nose end to make rudolph. We have put those out every December 1 for many people to enjoy. Several people have come to our door to ask about them. We unfortunately had one stolen years ago so our remaining deer is situated closer to our door. It gives me and my husband great joy to come around the corner and see the red light shining our way home.

itsterry says
My most-looked-forward-to Christmas decoration to display is my Precious Moments Nativity set. My husband purchased it for me on our very first Christmas 30 years ago. He has added to it every couple of years with purchasing me angels, animals, a stable, wisemen ….. it’s just so special to me–as is he!

Trish says
It isn’t a piece of decor, they are the Christmas albums (33LP’s) that belonged to my grandparents. We play them every holiday, on the hi-fi stereo that also belonged to my grandparent’s. While the sound isn’t crystal clear like a CD, the memories they bring back are so precious to me. My grandparents are no longer living, but their love of music and dancing was certainly passed on to a very appreciative granddaughter.

We still hang the calendar every year and if either of them are here, they are anxious to add the ornaments to the tree. It’s everyone’s favorite and one of our oldest decorations.

I always take one and put it on the tree and the rest sit in a glass bowl that belonged to my hubby’s great grandma.
Linda w says
I guess my tree would have to be my favorite piece of Christmas. I usually go with a “gawdy” theme, totally not matching anything in my house. You know plastic stuff, funky lights, cheesy garland. Glad my Christmas cards are so opposite of this. Thanks to PTI for my Christmas ideas.

My favorite holiday decoration is a picture of my dad and I from the 50’s that I have in a vintage frame atop an old copy of “The Night Before Christmas” that he would read to me every Christmas Eve. My favorite piece of holiday decor is a bank my father made from ceramics shop. It is a Santa with a jolly face and rosy cheeks standing by the chimney. Just by looking at him, you know he is contemplating the fact that he is a little too plump to go down the chimney! My Dad passed away when I was 5 – that was 55 years ago – and I still have my bank to remember his crafty talent! I still miss him so!

I admired it when I first saw it, and he replied that the only way I could have it would be to marry him. After six years of dating, we did get married, and now the running joke is that I married him, so I could have the honor of displaying his nativity set in my home! 🙂

Two growing boys and two cats! Every time I glance upon them as they set out for the holidays I think of my dad. I will cherish them forever.

It’s wonderful to imagine my grandfather as a child with his Santa, and knowing that my own children share the delight and anticipation of Christmas as he did when preparing for the holidays.

My favorite Christmas decoration is our stockings. When my Grandmother had to go into the nursing home we had to clean out her house. She had a lot of old quilts stored in the top of on of her closets. Everyone wanted to throw them away but I said no way. Finally we decided to use the worst ones to cut up to make stockings for all her grandchildren. And since I was in charge of them all I also made some for my kids and husband. So we now all have a stocking made from some of Mamaw Roses old quilts. They will always be cherished.
Kathleen says
I love pulling out my children’s ornaments from over the years—we bought a special one for every year—not necessarily expensive, just something the I can look at and think “oh, that was 5th grade”—because it just signified something big in their life that year. My oldest got married in May and I was just thinking the other day that I REALLY would miss having all those on my tree this year—-I haven’t handed them over…..maybe she can just visit them every Christmas….at MY HOUSE!!! It’s the sweetest part of the decorating for me!

It’s the first thing I put out and the last thing I take down.

My favorite thing to set out isn’t at my house, but at my mom’s house. She has a 2 foot ceramic Santa Clause holding a lantern that actually lights up. She painted it herself and it is beautiful. We always place it right in front of the Christmas tree to greet Santa when he comes on Christmas Eve. I hope to have something like that to share with my children someday soon.

The nutcracker my husband gave me. I came home one day from work before we were married and the nutcracker was guarding the parlor; I couldn’t figure out where he came from. It was like magic. Then I figured out that my now husband (who had a key to my house) had dropped it off as a surprise, but for that one moment the magic of Christmas was there; anything is possible. Thanks for the chance to win; what a great release!
Michele says
We have a cubicle decorating contest at work every year, and I always enjoy putting out everything for my theme — all my christmas tiggers, all of my christmas beanie babies, and all of my hand-made christmas items from last year. That is my favorite part of the holidays. At home, I like putting all my Tigger ornaments on the Christmas tree.
TinaH says
WOW – this is the easiest question ever. Definitely the Nativity Set. That is what Christmas is all about, isn’t it? Also, my MIL got it for us when we first married, and each year for about 10 years, she would add additional pieces for us – what a great question, and it definitely made me smile. In just 2 weeks, my MIL will have been gone for ten years, I bet she is happy with my answer!
karen q says
That is an easy one. I have 4 tiny little angel ornaments that must go on the tree every year. I got them when I was 2. There was a set of twelve and only 4 remain. I used to have to kiss each of the angels good night which I am sure drove my mother crazy but there are many good memories in this tradition.
laura Webb says
I love my nativity sets and handmade angels made by some lovely ladies that are no longer with us. Love those special memories.
ElizabethB says
A pink ceramic Christmas tree that my mom painted in ceramics class (early 1970’s). It has a wind up music box in the base that plays Santa Claus is coming to town. My mom still loves seeing it in my room every year. When my daughter is a bit older it will go in her room.

My favorite (or one of them anyway!) holiday decoration is a pair of wood elves named Kringle, and Noel, that I made years ago. The little charmers climb a ladder and hang out in our Christmas tree! I have made and given several sets to family members since I made ours. It wouldn’t be Christmas without them!!

Gail genrich says
My favorite is a quilted tree skirt with a heart theme made by my Motner. She lovingly chose all the special Christmas fabrics, knowing how much I love hearts, and then stitched every piece together by hand. Every year it brings back all those warm memories of how special my Mom made all of the Christmases for our family and how much I miss her. That tree skirt fills my heart with joy and reminds me how much we were loved.

Anemone says
I LOVE putting up my tree every year. Dec. 1st – pop in some Christmas music, make some hot chocolate and then start decorating. I love putting up my ornaments that I’ve acquired over the years – from a great-aunt who gave us one a year until we were 16 (that we were to take with us when we left home to start our own trees); from siblings, parents, and friends; to ones I bought myself ’cause they were just too cute to resist. All with memories of people, places and Christmases past.
jadorepapier says
I have knit giant, personalized stockings for my family. They combine my favourite tweedy wools in earthy tones. Although I enjoy admiring my handiwork throughout the holidays, the best moment is to see them stuffed and grossly distorted on Christmas morning. Knitted stockings can accommodate an astonishing amount of treasure. 😉

Debbie Gaydos says
When we were little, I always remember being sooo excited on Dec. 1st when we brought out the advent calendar! My mom had made it – a big wall hanging stitched with a tree, and 24 pockets along the bottom that held little ornaments. Each day we would put one up on the tree. A few years ago, I recreated a similar calendar, inspired by the one my mom made. She is no longer with us, but I think of her every year when we get out the calendar… and I see the same joy and excitement in my boys when it’s time to start the “countdown”! That’s when it seems like Christmas is really almost here! 🙂

I think mine would have to be my Christmas tree with our collection of ornaments. My parents bought a new ornament for me each year. When I left home they gave me my box of ornaments. Each ornament is dated. Now we do the same for our daughter only we can never limit it to just one!!! Our ornament collection has grown so that we have a tree in each bedroom too. Each ornament has such special memories.
Regina M says
Our most precious piece of decor is the angel that tops our tree. I made it over 15 years ago and was, I am am realizing now, my first real paper craft! It is now a little worse for wear, but it still looks lovely at the top of our tree and reminds me of all the wonderful Christmases we have had together.
Mary Anne P says
My fake Christmas tree. Real trees cause breathing problem for the little ones in my family. My little ones are all teenagers now but, the same tree still is put up. All those memories of decorating the tree with my collection and each of the kids collections of ornaments. The most special ones are the homemade ones from school and the tree topper that my dad alway put on his tree. My father has passed but, putting this on the top of the tree makes me feel so close to my dad. Tree decorating night is how we start our holiday season.
Janet says
My favourite holiday decor is not traditional at all – it’s a playpen! For the last 5 years it has surrounded our Christmas tree, to keep little fingers from undressing the tree and opening presents early. It’s so special to share the wonder of Christmas with young children, and each year as I put the playpen around the tree I am thankful for the joy our little ones bring to the occassion, and mindful that all too soon the playpen will no longer be necessary.
Valarie Hilchey says
My absolute favorite is a rather homely angel, visibly tattered and a little torn. My son at the age of five bought this at his school’s “Green Christmas” where parents donate treasures to be recycled , students get to buy presents at extremely reasonable prices, and the school receives a little profit. He had to give it to me near the beginning of December, as he was too excited to wait until Christmas.

It has to be our stockings. Every year our family makes a big deal about the new family members (pets included) and the family members that have left us. It’s always a special time.
Tammy W. says
Our Precious Moments nativity scene. My husband purchased it for me a few pieces at a time for our first couple of Christmases together. We were newlyweds and he was in the military only a few years then, so these seemed very expensive to us. Now 27 years later, they are more valuable than gold to me, and are the first things that get set out when we decorate!

We have a nativity set that has become a family tradition. The stable was built by my grandfather and my mother filled it with figures bought in the 5&10 in the 1950’s. Now it’s just my husband, Mom and me, but I can still see out sons placing the baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas morning, before opening gifts.
Bonnie says
Hello Ladies,
How exciting the new sets are!!!!
Anyway, I have to say the one thing I put out every Christmas is 2 ornaments which my mother gave me when I was little. One is a
hand blown glass star and the other one is set of chime bells. They were hand blown by my Grandfather. They go on my tree every year.

Our Christmas stockings! I originally bought them on sale at Pottery Barn. At the time we only had two kids and I was pretty sure that we would have one more, so I ordered an extra one at the time. Well, four years later and we had our 4th child…and I didn’t have a matching stocking for her. That’s where I found a deep appreciation for Ebay, can you believe that I found ONE on there four years later?! I will confess it had the name Sue embroidered on it, but a seam ripper took care of that and I was able to have my dd’s name embroidered on it and you can hardly tell!
anababy says

We put on Christmas music and the kids decorate the tree while DH and I “supervise.” Each ornament has a story and I love remembering them each year. Then most nights during the season I sit in the room with the tree, a good book and some hot chocolate…..I just LOVE that tree!!
Theresa Grdina says
I set out my manger with all of the little figurines. When my mom and dad were married, they got a holiday postcard from a friend in Germany. My mom jokingly told my uncle to make her a manger set just like the one on the postcard. SURPRISE! He did!! It is a big part of my life growing up and I now set up the manger EVERY year in my house….

Nancy says
When my grandmother passed away, my mother took her fur coats and shawls and had a fabulous and unique Father Christmas made for each of us: for me and my two sisters; my aunt; and herself. My Santa is in elegant black mink—I know that may sound horrid to some but the coat was probably manufactured in the 40s when wearing fur was acceptable. A little miniature framed photo of my Grandma, snowshoes that represent our love of winter and other treasures that remind me of her are tucked into his leather satchel. This is the first piece of holiday decor I bring out—I think it should come out soon—and the last I put away (usually by Valentine’s day).
Holly says

I have a MDF cut out of the word “WISH” that is covered in ruby red glitter. It must be 9″x12″. It sits on my mantle and is magical, it reminds me of childhood. My favorite things that I set out at the holidays are my childrens “baby’s first Christmas” ornaments. I wrap them gingerly each year for safe keeping and when I unwrap them each year…I am completely amazed at how fast time has flown since they celebrated that first holiday. I love them.
Jackie W. says
When my husband and I lived in Japan a few years ago, a student of mine took a taxi to our home to deliver a large plant, decorated with small bells & red plastic apples, as a substitute for a Christmas tree. This touched me so much, especially since she herself belonged to a religion that does not celebrate Christmas. But she did it for us, knowing we wouldn’t have a Christmas tree that season we lived there. Each year I get out those small apples & bells and place them on our family tree and remember her thoughtful gift.
Amy G. says
I really love the tree ornaments. My husband and I have given each other ornaments every year since we’ve been married. I love looking back at those. oooo, that’s hard to say, but my favorite is the didukh. What is a didukh, you ask? It’s a traditional Ukrainian decoration of grains stemming from pagan times, and is supposed to remind you of all of your ancestors. A simple didukh looks a lot like the stamp from First Fruits, actually….(gets idea for card :D)
Kristy says
My favorite Christmas decoration that will always be foremost amongst all the holiday items in my home is my nativity set. My set is made by Precious Moments and consists of small statues of little children dressed in costumes portraying all those present at the birth of the Savior. My children loved to play with them when they were small, and now my grandchildren enjoy them as well. They use them to act out there own story of the savoir. Even though the tip of Joseph’s staff has broken and there are a few chilps in the figurines, they are still treasures to me.
The PTI releases for this month are truly magical and so beautifully illustrate the holiday season. I am excited to have what I can purchase in my own stamping collection.
Tracy Harp says
Ohhh, that is easy! It is a handmade (clay) manger scene given to us by one of the churches we served. One year when I was feeling like a humbug, we only had that and a tree. It isn’t Christmas without it.
Fab new release btw!!
andie librandi... says
that’s an easy one…i have these two halloween decorations that are black vintage looking candlestick holders, but instead of a candle, there is a vintage looking jack-o-lantern sitting on top of black tulleing. it’s one of those with the huge toothy smiles. i really love them…halloween is my favorite!

The singing Hallmark Snowmen! I love (and collect) snowmen (but they must have arms, no stick snowmen for me!!) and the Singing Hallmark ones captured my heart immediately. We have almost all of them and we put them on the main coffee table and our kids have a BLAST with them. Our only rule is after the first time of *all* of them playing at once is “only one at a time” and everyone stop and sing and dance a long. Makes wonderful memories and lots of laughs all season long!
Janet S says
My favorite is a nativity set my daughter made as a young child. She used clothespins for the people and each one has clothes of felt decorated with DMC floss, yarn, ric rac, whatever she could find. She even made a little manger out of popsicle sticks with baby Jesus laying in there. This nativity always has the place of honor in our home each Christmas.
K. L. Warner & D. P. Ehlinger says
An advent calendar with a big felt tree, 24 little pockets below and figures made out of felt that stick on the tree…it was made for me when I was 8 years old, by a good friend of my mother’s. (That was 42 years ago, and both those ladies are gone now, but I still put up the Advent Calender that Marge made…)

My favorite piece of Holiday decor would have to be the ornaments that hang on our tree. Anna (doctorfoodie) says
I always place a big glass vase on the mantle, and fill it with an assortment of shiney balls. It’s like a mini Christmas display. The colour scheme changes from year to year, sometimes I layer in ribbons or garlands around it, but I just love that little area. The Christmas tree is for the whole family, but the vase is like my own interpretation of the holiday every year!
cecilia chin-yet says
other than my tree it would have to be the wreath that i made the first year we were in our own place which has only been 5 years. however at my mother’s there is a nativity set that is treasured. we have glued those wisemen’s heads on so many times that we’ve all lost count. lol
Debbie D. says
My favorite holiday item is the framed photo of my son standing next to the “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree that we cut down at a friend’s house in northern Maine. My son was 4 years old at the time and so proud of his discovery. He is 21 now. Just thinking about that day makes me smile.

My most treasured decorations are the tree ornaments my children have made over the years, especially the ones that incorporated photos of the children. It is always so much fun unpacking them, checking the back side for a date and remembering way back to when the ornament was made. I have to admit it, it also makes me a bit teary eyed to see how much they have grown over the years.

A festive wreath for the front door is must each year to greet our guests.

My favorite is a snow family made out of gorgeous, white, unglazed porcelain, accented with gold. They decorate an antique buffet in my entrance every year, complete with snow, and everyone knows Christmas is coming when they come out, because they are always the first thing I bring out. And though they just came from Sam’s, I treasure them because we got them our first year back home in TN and our daughter’s first real Christmas (their 1st actual Christmas was spent in a NICU). They represent 13 years of beautiful and wonderful memories and I will be devastated if I were to ever lose them.

Hhhmmmm, my favorite decor is my husband’s xmas stocking. It’s a huge stocking made out of raffia-type of material and trimmed with red ribbon. There is a picture of a Hawaiian type of Santa with a hula skirt, no shirt, big belly, and a red stocking cap on. It’s got a definite island flair! I bought it at a local craft fair because it totally reminded me of him. He got a big kick out of when I brought it home and hung it up. Now the kids love to see it at Christmas to remind them of their daddy who is in heaven now.
jamie nania says
So many to choose from…I made my grandparents a ceramic Santa a long time ago and after they passed on, my mother gave it back to me so that’s a very special piece I take good care of and love unwrapping each year now in my own home. My other favorite are all the stockings. I love seeing those up for my husband and our kiddos. I love everything about the holidays!
Kerry from PA says
Aside from the tree, we always put up a creche which has been in the family for years. Also, about ten years ago my mother bought me a set of small ceramic bears (similar in design to boyd’s bear) each holding a letter to spell “joy” which are one of my favorite decorations.
Ohhh Snap says
My favorite has actually be replaced by my daughter’s request. We were really poor when she was younger(things have gotten much better), but every Christmas eve I would give her two lunch bags to color which we would use for our stockings. And we would set up the tiny tree and when she woke up there would be gifts from a church that adopted us under the tree and Santa, of course. I wish I had been able to keep track of those little bags because they represented our little family. My gift to her one year was handmade stockings which we setout every year, so no more paper bags, but I’m happy the stockings bring her so much joy 🙂

My nativity set. I believe that it represents why I celebrate Christmas.

A tarnished silver bell that was my dad’s favorite ornament from his childhood. Placing it on the tree every year is a way to celebrate and honor who he was…and who he will always be in my heart.
Angela Person says
I have a set of hand made Xstitch stockings that I made for my family. The best part is when my husband and I were first married he wanted to learn how to cross stitch, so his Christmas stocking is mostly made by him. Special memories.
Ivy says
I set out my nativity set every year. My dad and mom brought it from the Holy Land, so it is extra special.
Marisa G says
My favorite piece of holiday decor is a quilted Christmas Tree skirt that my grandmother made for me. It is brightly colored and ruffly, and just adds to the holiday happiness. Plus, it reminds me of her.
Trudie Vick says
I must say it has got to be the Christmas tree with all of it’s twinkling lights and decorations. Then the icing on the cake is putting all of the gifts under the tree. Of course this year there may be fewer after tonight. 🙂
Annie says
My favorite holiday decor is the Christmas village that I display. It has become a tradition that I started when my son’s were very young. They are grown now, but they still look for the village when they come home for Christmas.

I love snowmen. I think they are so jolly and cute. Since we do not get snow much here in Alabama, it is as close as I am going to get. You northerners just laugh at our snow!!!!
Peggy McCurry says
If you come for a visit to my house at the Holidays, you will find my collection of hand-made stuffed Snowmen and Snow ladies lovingly scattered throughout the house!

My late brother-in-law was a glass blower. It makes me smile to bring out the ornaments he made us when he was a student and couldn’t afford anything “better” (ie. store bought) I only wish he had realized just how much he was appreciated when he was still around 🙁
Robbin Clements says
I love putting all the Christmas ornaments my children have made through the years on our tree. My children are all grown up now and having babies of their own….but they love coming over and looking at those cute little creations they made. It seems that there is a story that goes with each one. As time goes by I will be giving those ornaments to them to put on their family trees!
Beverly says
I know this seems like a “well, duh” but my favorite thing is the Christmas tree itself.
I have several in various shapes and sizes.
I think the most I put up was 5 one year.
My daughter graduated college mid-year after a long run at it and we had a celebraTION the whole month of December.

Every year I still hang my stocking with care. My Aunt knitted it for me when I was born…a very long time ago. I think of her and all the traditions of my family when I was youg and the magic returns. Love it.
Katie J says
My Christmas tree! We cover it with ornaments that have so many memories. Every time we take a trip, we try to find an ornament that represents that place. It’s like a walk down Memory Lane!
Tammy says
My favorite piece(s) that I set out every year would be the miniature trees from Hallmark with all of their miniature ornaments. My husband’s mother started one for him years ago when he was a child. We continued to purchase them after we were married until they stopped making them. I love that even though the ornaments are tiny they have movable parts.
LoriO says
I love to hang my stockings above the fireplace!

My favorite thing is my nativity set that my grandmother painted. She painted it for me after my grandfather passed away as her “therapy”. She passed away this spring and even the thought of having something so special brings tears to my eyes.
Melanie Jones says
My nativity scene. It is so beautiful and reminds me of the meaning of Christmas.
PammyLou says
I have a string of three heavy brass bells on a beautiful burgundy cord. These bells belonged to my mom and dad and they were hung on the front door of our home every Christmas when I was young. My mom died when I was 10. Even though I received very little of her possessions, I was blessed to get these brass bells. I think of her every Christmas and know that her spirit is with me.
Breeonna Delaire says
Goodness, that’s a tough question. We’re a young family and still accumulating holiday decorations but I love to display our old and new ornaments. I also love to fill apothecary jars with bright glass balls to accent the season. I’ve found it’s an inexpensive way to use my jars in many seasons.
carin says
For the last several years (since I “grew up,”) I’ve picked up an ornament everywhere I’ve traveled – decorating the tree also serves as a flood of great memories with family and friends – it’s definitely my favorite part!
Liz Thomas (wifelady) says
I’m a huge fan of the TV show Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (You know the one with the Bumble) — I have a ceramic town/village set based on the show and it has a ton of parts and takes forever to put out but I love it!
Amy C. says
I love to put out the children’s Christmas stockings. Seeing them hang on the mantel is wonderful!!
Karen says
Although I love Christmas lights, I have a beautiful table runner with holly and ivy on it. It was hand-embroidered by a woman that is now-deceased and I think of her every year when I set it out.
Thanks for the contest Nichole and gang!
kasia says
My favourite piece of holiday decor is two-fold. A stocking my mom made for me when i was really young, about 3 or 4. It’s satin and has a little applique of a mouse with this super cute patchwork nightcap on it. She also made a ceramic ornament that matches, the litle mouse sleeping on the crescent moon, with this cute multi-coloured quilt. I always hang it last on the tree.
arlene says
My favorite is the Christmas tree. We go out to the forest with a group of friends for a marshmallow roast and tree hunt. Then when we set up the tree, it’s fun to put it together as a family and remember when we got each of the ornaments.
Rita says
The advent calendar is the first holiday item to be put up every year. The daily anticipation helps my kids make it thru to Christmas Eve.
Paula says
When I was very little we always traveled to Grandmother’s house in the country. She cooked and decorated and all the family came, but the one thing that I always looked for and loved the most was a very modest nativity set that she set out. It was well loved over the years so there were chips and glued-back- together pieces, but it didn’t matter, I loved it just as much. Many years later, I lovingly set up that same nativity set for my own little girl who seems to have the same awe as she gently unwraps each figurine and places it carefully in just the right spot as we tell each other the real Christmas story about baby Jesus.
Coco says
Hanging our stockings on Christmas eve is still as magical to me now as a grandmother as when I was a young child.
Gayatri Murali says
Well, I don’t celebrate Christmas. So I don’t have any tree or stockings or any of holiday decoration in my house. Since its summer here in Australia, I always change the accessories in my house to summer colors from cushion covers to wall decor to curtains…Nice to lighten up the house with bright summer colors:)
Bev says
I have so many things I love to decorate with at Christmas, but I must say without our little Nativity scene, it would not seem complete. We got it 34 years ago when we got married and it is as special today as it was then.
Janis says
My Christmas tree is my favourite! I love it when you turn the lights on for the first time and see it all aglow!
Laurie W. says
My favorite thing would have to be the Christmas Tree! My mom gave me the decorations that were mine from when I was little and I love putting them on the tree now with my daughter! Christmas is so much more fun through her eyes!
Colleen C. says
My favorite Christmas decoration is an old, old decoration my Mom gave me that she always put out when we were growing up. The decoration was a Christmas mouse made out of styrofoam and dressed in felt. We called her Mrs. Mouse and Christmas decorations were not complete until we put Mrs. Mouse in front of the fireplace. I now put Mrs. Mouse in front of my fireplace each Christmas and she reminds me of the many happy Christmases of my childhood!
Betty Wright says
My favorite Christmas decor is the scrapbook I made of the kids each year sitting on Santa’s lap. It started with my oldest who is now 16, when she was a baby. I added her brother in the picture when he was born. Each year I would cart the two off to the mall for the traditional photo. A couple of years ago my dd got too old for santa. Truth be told I am surprised she did it for that long. I still have that imaged framed and the rest scrapbooked. Too cute! Years of memories!
Cindy O says
I cross-stitched a Christmas-themed welcome right after my husband and I married 29 years ago. It has a lovely red frame. And every year I love hanging it up during the holidays.
mrstran says
I always look forward to setting out my nativity set with my 3 boys every year. They love to hear the story of Christmas and I love telling it to them. Every year before we pack it away, we always write the name of the child who will set baby Jesus in the manger onto a piece of paper and we pack it away. The anticipation of whose turn it is to do honors is so exciting!
Dianne K says
I am in my 70’s with 5 grown children and every Christmas we have a special place for all the items the children made thru the years at Christmas time. They bring back many good memories and we all love looking at them and remembering all those years that have gone by so fast.
M A says
My favorite holiday decor; all my nativities. Especially my Fisher Price and Mt St Helen’s Ash ones. The Fischer Price one helps to remind me to be a kid at heart during the holiday season.

Cristina says
Ooh, good question. I think for me it’s just a good old-fashioned pine wreath. I love the smell of it. Nothing says “holidays” to me more. With that answer, can you guess which stamp set I’m most excited about this release, too? 🙂
Jennifer Delaurier says
My favourite piece of holiday décor is my Willow Tree manger .I just bring the holidays alive!!!!
AnnElise R. says
My favorite thing is a special Christmas tree ornament that “magically” turns the tree lights on and off! It’s a cute and unusual piece from my mother-in-law. It’s fun to see guest’s reactions to the lights working by themselves! 🙂
Cyndie says
Great question! I have waaay too many holiday supplies, but my favorite is a set of tiny (about 1/2″ tall) hand carved wooden Santas that my husband bought before we were married. There are about 20 of them and we put them all over the living room in various places–on top of the clock, on the highest ridge of the entertainment center, peeking around corners, etc. Anyplace that is out of reach of the cats! Wait–scratch that–there is no place in this house that is out of reach of the cats…
Carol R says
Lights! Have to have them strung on the porch front and back. On an evergreen tree out front to welcome everyone that drives by. Everything looks so festive and dressed up from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day with lights along city streets and even in hills and mountains. There is something magical about them.
Kimberly Ann says
Our nativity set. My mother gave me the set she collected while all us children were living at home. It is a wonderful reminder of the reason for the season and wonderful holiday memories from my childhood.
I am grateful to have this Christmas tradition from my childhood to share with my family and to pass on for future generations to enjoy.
Brenda R says
It is a wreath that I have made about 7 years ago. I used to have theme Christmas trees with handmade ornaments several years in a row. In a downsizing move, I just kept one or two from the different themes, and put them on the 36″ wreath. Lots of memories brought to mind as I see the various ornaments!
Amy says
I have a nativity set that my husband made me the first year we met. I knew he was a “keeper” right from the beginning 🙂
erika says
My favorite piece of decoration to put out for Christmas is a teeny tiny plastic angel that my mom brought over with us from Germany in 1957. We are immagrants and I was only 5 years old and I remember that little angel and always thought it looked so tacky and cheap while I was in my teens. Now that I am almost 60 years old and my parents have downsized and moved into a retirement facility, I cherish this little scrappy angel and hopefully one day I will be able to hand it down to my daughter-in-law when my son marries.
Stacy Simpson says
Tree decorations – I love hanging the ornaments. I love to recall who gave me the ornament or if it’s a handmade; thinking of the person that made it. Some of my ornaments were bought on vacation – so I think back on what fun we had. I have picture ornaments of my boys when they were younger and one of my husband when he was a year and a half – it used to hang on his grandma’s tree – it’s one of my favorites!
Rhonda H says
I made cross stitch stocking the 1st yr we were married (22 yrs) and then for the boys. They are treasured items at Christmas. We also collect Swarovski Christmas ornaments which are all snowflakes.
Deanna Jean says
That would be my daughters Christmas sock. My daughter was born on the 16th of December and she came home in a hand made Christmas stocking. It has been her stocking every year and she will be 19 this December. Oh my…did I just say 19..can’t be..haha. We were told we might not be able to have children because I am an ovarian cancer survivor. So she is a true gift.
Julie S says
I am a Snowman collector and I have 3 Jim Shore Snowmen that my husband and 2 sons gave me years ago. I adore these folky snowmen… I put them up first and put them away last!
kristen m says
I love Christmas and all of the decorations and transformations that come along with the holiday. However, hands down, my absolute favorite:
My great grandmother brought a full nativity set back from a trip to Jerusalem. I remember the thrill of helping put it out each year growing up and still feel the same tingle getting the box down now as an adult. My son (8) and daughter (7) love helping to put it out now.
Jeanne says
I love having small white candles in each window that glow into the night to offer joy and hospitality! The light of the world came for each one of us. JOY TO THE WORLD!

Kathy V. says
My Terry Redlin Winter Village. I love his art work, and I don’t do other Christmas decorating.
TracyTracy says
I have an angel made out of a handkerchief. I took it from my mom’s huge collection when I left home 20 years ago. Its pretty “country” but I really love it and every year it sits proudly on the center speaker of our stereo system- I might not celebrate by decorating traditionally and over-the-top like my mom did, but that angel oversees it all, nonetheless. Thanks.
Stacy says
My favorite piece of holiday decor is our Advent Calendar. Many years ago, my mom made one out of wood, painted a tree on it, and screwed little hooks on next to all the numbers. She bought little mini ornaments which we hung on the hooks for each day. My brother and I got to take turns putting the ornaments up each day – I got odd days, he got even. Now that I have my own family, my mother made me an Advent Calendar just like the one we had growing up! Last year my two year old daughter loved picking out the ornaments each day. I love that I could pass down such an awesome tradition.
Shirlann says
My ultimate, favorite decor items to decorate is my fireplace mantel. I have a wood mantel painted white so I love to lay a wide green pine bough with frosted crystals and snowflakes. I string icy star lights amongst the bough with crystal drop stones. Tucked in are the stocking hangers made of a heavy, smooth silver metal in the shape of reindeer and trees. The warm glow in the frosty setting makes me feel warm and happy!
Terri Moore says
That would be my Winnie The Pooh Menorah.
Jill S. says
Definitely Stockings! My family looks forward to these every year and the goodies inside. These are the favorite part of Christmas morning.
Brit Swiderski says
I don’t have any traditions yet because I’ve been living a different place every year in college, but my favorite thing my mom puts out every year is our mantelpiece arrangement- complete with boughs of evergreens, our reindeer stocking holders, and our nativity set. This release is making me excited for Christmas!
Shannon H. says
Every year we put out our Snowman cookie jar. We got it the first Christmas we were married. It was our first official Christmas decoration as a couple!
Charlene says
The outdoor Christmas lights. I set them up on auto timers so that they are already on when we get home from work in the evening. It brings that little extra cheer to the season – not to mention it helps us forget about the dreary, rainy, wet winters we have here.

Yvonne Snellings says
It would have to be the very first Hallmark ornament I bought when DH and I were dating. I just “knew” he was going to be the one so I needed to start an ornament collection. It’s a tiny little angel and she is proudly displayed towards the top each year.
Deb Zaremba says
Our Christmas tree. My husband and I decorate the tree together and it is a traditon that I love and look forward to every year. Of course our cats are very helpful also.

This is embarrassing… it’s one of those GIANT inflatable characters that people put on their lawns. Mine is a turkey. It goes up for the week before thanksgiving. Comes down the day after. I love that guy!
tinab158 says
Every year we set up a Dickens-style Christmas village, including carolers, snow-covered trees, a church, candy shop, an ice skating rink with moving skaters and many more holiday pieces! It’s relaxing to sit back and watch the lights flicker and imagine you are a part of the tiny town at Christmas time.
Gini Cagle says
I have a very elaborate Neapolitan Nativity. It’s my favorite thing because it represents what Christmas is all about.

My snowmen collection on my baby grand piano!
Kate says
I have a green ceramic tree that has little lights on it. I had one as a child at my grandmother’s house and it was lost in a move after she passed away. I was at a craft fair a few years ago and literally started crying in the woman’s booth when I saw them.
I put it out every year and it brings me back to my grandmother’s house at Christmas.
Jeanne says
A manger set I bought at a craft show many years ago – made of corn husk – it is unique and beautiful.

Without a doubt…it is my Christmas Village. It was handed down to me by my mother and always brings warm Christmas memories for me.

My absolute all time favorite is the icicle lights! Something about them just make me feel like a kid again. And…I don’t take them down until my birthday (1/12) tee hee…

I have a ceramic Christmas Tree with those glass “lights” that fit in holes on the branches and are lit from within. It was my husband’s grandmother’s, and is both kitschy and classic. I love it!

Victoria in OHio says
I made a “charlie brown” christmas tree out of wood, painted it and painted all of the little ornaments- i love it because I made it with a friend years ago and it is sooo cute -about 3 feet tall in a wooden box. MY 2nd thing would be the Willow Tree Manger Scene that i put in my entry way every year – love it! I always hate to put that back away!
Anne-Marie Tribbett says
Our favorite piece of holiday decor is the nativity set that my husbands Aunt gave to him when he left home. It is a hand made beautifully colored carved wood set that has so much sentimental value as well as brings out the true meaning of Christmas!
Leora says
HI Nichole and everyone! That one is easy for me. I love putting out our Menorah! We have a very large one that once belonged to my great grandparents. Of course, we have several smaller ones too! I can’t believe we are talking about he holidays already. Happy Holiday season to all!
C Burke says
I would have to say my favorite(s) are all of the handmade ornaments which we put on our Christmas tree each year. There are some made of painted cornstarch clay from the first year my husband and I were married and on a tight budget since we were still in college. Then, more I made from wooden spools and scraps of trim and beads, walnut shell ornaments, some made from pine cones and those which I made from felt and decorated with embroidery, paper cast and beeswax cast ornaments. Most of all I treasure those made by my daughter in Sunday School when she was about three years old. Each one is precious and brings back so many good memories as we hang it on the tree every year. Now, my little grandsons love to help us decorate the tree. They, too, enjoy looking at each one and picking their favorites to hang on just the right branch.
Kathy Allen says
I have two actually! The first is a gold metal candle holder. When you light the candles the heat rises and turns the angels and they “ding” the bells as they go ’round and ’round! It was my favorite as a child and a gift from my Mom. The next is a set of porcelein(?) faced angels whose dresses are covered with colored feathers. These were passed down from my Grandmother who clipped these to her plastic tree each year. I don’t know how old these decorations are, but they are truly worth a mint to me!!
Holly F. says
Every year I put a delicate wooden ornament on the top of our tree. It is a mother deer with her fawn..very sweet and 70ish….my Mom bought it the year I was born. I remeber it as a kid and as an adult I always pack and unpack it carefully each year and remember fond Christmas memories.
Vicki says
I love snowmen and have such a huge collection that I change the little fellas up every year. The one thing that I put out each and every year is my Nativity set…….just a reminder of the true spirit and meaning of Christmas

My favorite is a snowman that is sitting a patch of ice and is ice fishing. It was given to me by my father the Christmas before he passed away. I actually leave it out all year long.
Thank you for such an amazing giveaway!
Jody says
i love the nativity set my mother made and painted when we were children….it was as beautiful then as it is today.
Myrna Holstrom says
My favorite holiday item for Christmas is my tree. It has both multi-colored and white lights, and I have an enormous collection of the Hallmark Disney ornaments that I started collecting when my oldest son was a year old. He is now 21, and so far each year we have all gathered together as a family to decorate the tree. He has just moved into his first apartment (sniff) and I am hoping he will still come and help decorate the tree! *fingers crossed*
Debbie says
I put up two trees every year – one with glass collectible ornaments and the other, my favorite, is the tree the holds all the ornaments my two children,(ages 23 & 24), made while growing up. Also hanging on this tree are Hallmark ornaments they picked out each year. They always went for the movement ornaments, so the tree is quite noisy with all the little motors going. Now that they’re grown and not home so much anymore, that noisy, paper ornament filled tree is priceless. LOVE IT!
Jo Eades says
My favourite thing is the Christmas tree. I love it’s pretty lights and sparkly decorations.

Our nativity set is first out and last to be put away every year, because that is what Christmas is all about.
Marjorie Henseler says
I guess my favorite would be lights – lights (lots of them) on the main tree, lighted garland on the stairs and loft railing and above the fireplace, lighted wreaths in the windows, lights on the porch columns, lights above the kitchen cabinets and on the screen porch. I love holiday lights!
Nancy Thomas says
My favorite piece is our nativity scene. It’s so beautiful in old world colors. It’s not really that valuable in dollars as we purchased it at Sam’s Club for $30. But it was one of the first holiday items my husband and I purchased together as husband and wife. I cherish it for that reason as well as it’s symbolism.
Stephanie says
the tree ornaments that were mine as a child, some are very 70s looking and my children do not understand their appeal 🙂

The funky little, bright colored, pieced felt “santa slippers” that Mom used to put in front of the cardboard Christmas fireplace that she set up every yr in our living room. So many good Christmas morning memories … .
Keva Brown says
Well…we just moved into our first home last fall, so there isn’t an “every year” piece yet. I’d have to say, though, that the wreath I created for the fireplace is lovely and I cannot wait to put it up again. Our home is pretty neutral, but the wreath has a little bling so it’s fun!
katevdp says
We have a gorgeous knitted “Christmas Tree Guard” named Barnaby that was given to me by my favourite Aunt about 20 years ago. He is covered in Christmas icons – trees, holly, presents, 5 gold rings etc. I just LOVE him. He stands next to our tree and ‘guards’ the presents. Christmas just isn’t Christmas without Barnaby!
betty lou says
The nativity scenes I place around our house are the most important pieces of decor because the birth of the Christ Child is why we have Christmas, and I want my family to be constantly reminded of God’s love for us during the hustle and bustle of the season. Thanks for the chance to win!!

My wonderful in-laws gave us a beautiful bird in a birds nest several years ago (before kids) to place in our christmas tree each year. Its a german tradition and is supposed to bring you luck in the new year. Now that we have kids, we like to share that story with them as to why we put a birds nest in our christmas tree. we feel so lucky and blessed to share that memory with our children each year.
Sandra B. says
I love putting all of the ornaments on the tree. Each ornament has its own memory or something special related to it. Some were handmade by grandparents no longer here with us. Some were made by the kids throughout the years. Some were given to us and some were bought by us. It’s fun to remember where we got each one as we put them on the tree – lots of happy memories.
Belinda Chang Langner says
Christmas lights! Love untangling them, hanging them and seeing lights from my window all season! 🙂
Diane says
My favorite holiday decoration is a handwritten “plan” to catch Santa putting gifts under the tree, written by my son when he was a little boy. It is a treasure I found in his room and I secretly stashed it away until he was an adult. I proudly share it out in the open for all visitors to read. When his little girl is old enough to read, she will enjoy the “scene” he plays out in his grade school handwriting. It’s a joy to display this every year and think of the wonder he had of Santa as he very carefully and secretly wrote the plan when he and my daughter camped out in their sleeping bags under the Christmas tree that year.
LeighAnne says
One constant for us is the Trip to Bethlehem advent calendar. It was my husband’s as a child and his mother had it copied and redone for us so my children have grown up with it as well. We rotate who gets to start so they each get a turn reading the Christmas Eve entry….
nkmac says
I have my Grandfathers clear plastic tree that you put together I would guess it is 7″ or 8″ high,I hang teeny tiny balls on, I have collected vintage ones to add to what I “inherited” from my mom. You see my mother and grandfather are long gone so it always comes out and reminds me of my childhood. I love that little tree like no other.
jaime aldridge says
it would have to be the book that my now 12 yr old daughter made when she was in 2nd grade. it is ‘the night before christmas’ hand made out of construction paper. she wrote every word. she drew every scene. it has cotton balls and small candy and tons of glitter glued on the pages. her teacher said that she started the class in early october so it would be finished by christmas! it is so beautiful and i tear up every year when i see it.
LindaH says
I have so many…but there is one that brings a tear to my eye every year…it is a handmade wreath ornament that a customer made for me when I was a teller several years ago…she was an elderly lady, and came in to the bank that day, just to bring me the gift she had made, and as she was leaving the bank, she was struck by a car and passed away. I know that this is so sad…but I can’t help but think of her every year when I see this wonderful handmade gift from an angel.
Lisa says
Our Christmas tree! We have collected ornaments from every trip/vacation that we have taken through the years, as well as added all the hand made ornaments by each of us and family and friends. When I hang the brass bells, still on their beautiful old ribbon, in the living room doorway, I know that Christmastime has arrived. They’re the first thing out of the boxes! My mother hung them in her house every year that I can remember, and not a person would go by without giving them a jingle. That sound, in my house now, reminds me of her and the beautiful traditions she started in my family, and is such a joyful noise to all of us!
Linda C. says
Nativity set because that’s the meaning of Christmas.
Kristie H says
I started collecting Swarovski crystal christmas tree ornaments for my husband and my first Christmas together. I love bringing home the new one each year and adding it to the ones already on the tree. It’s a great way of celebrating our lives together each Christmas. The trick now is to keep my 3 1/2 and 2 year old from wanting to see if they can pull them down and look/play with them. But even a broken one will bring us memories the following years.
ASHLEY says
Well, I live at home with my parents but every year I just loveeeee making our home look OH soooo CHristmasssssy ! My favorite thing so far was last year when I went crazy and hung snowflakes all around the house hanging from the ceiling, because I was wishing it would snow in FL. It kinda worked lol we got fluriess one night it was AMAZING!!
Mia says
I love each of my Christmas tree ornaments – the ones my husband has bought me over the years, all the handmade ones from my boys, one teeny, chipped little red ball that my dad & I would hang together each year. Even though I can’t possibly fit them all on each year, they bring back such great memories as I sort through them, trying to decide which will make it onto our tree.
Samantha Welch says
My favorite piece of holiday decor is my advent calendar. I just love how festive it is!
Tracy says
oh gosh, my old latchhook Santa stocking. I have had that since I was 6 years old. Still hang it every year, and always enjoy opening the presents in there after the presents under the tree.
kristie larsen says
My olive tree Nativity set my brother brought back from Jerusalem. I love it because its from the Holy Land, it depicts one of the most important events on this earth and it is a constant reminder of my Savior and also my sweet brother who brought it to me. I love it with all my heart!
Cindy S says
Oh that’s tough. I have 2. The wooden Advent calendar, my kids love putting together the nativity scene with all the magnetic pieces, and the ornaments. My daughter is a great help asking about each ornament, “When and where did we get this one Mom?”. One of those traditions I treasure.
Lisa carter says
A big stuffed hippo.
*Sings* We have a hippopotomous for Christmas..
My daughter and I have had an ongoing gag every Christmas since we discovered that song together.
🙂
Crisanne says
I love decorating my tree! As a child my grandparents would give me an ornament each year. They were always different, some vintage, some modern, some trendy, some just different! My favorites are a glittery strawberry, and a stick horse. My husband and I have carried on this tradition with our children. Our tree is an eclectic collage of colors and textures, and I love it!
Elizabeth B says
OK…my favorite would have to be a collection rather than 1 item. I sort of “collect” Christmas trees of all sizes and made out of all different sorts of materials. I have about 30 trees, and I love putting them out each year.
Melissa sibert says
Our favorite thing to put out at Christmas is our tree. I love the joy and delight my sons ( ages 9 and 7) express each time we put it up and pull out all the ornaments. It’s like opening a whole lot of little presents for them to rediscover the ornaments. I love watching them put them in just the “right” places and how they love the star on top that lights up. We also like out nativity we put out too. It was a yearly gift to me as I was growing up from my precious Godparents.
Therese says
I have two favorite things that I always place on our tree – a wooden bird ornament beautifully painted with a flower on its belly (my favorite ornament) and the small colored paper lanterns that I randomly put over the white lights on the tree. It adds the final touch to our tree and I am always in awe how beautiful the tree is with them.
Margie Conway says
My absolute favorite item is a handmade Polish Nativity set given to our family while we were living in Germany. Our neighbors, a Chaplain and his family, surprised us with it right before Christmas. It became even more meaningful when they told us Polish women make and sell them to help support their families. It will always be a treasure!
Deborah Titus says
I love the holidays…my favorite is my mitten tree. This is a tree of mittens I have given my grandkids each year, and then I retrieve them at the end of winter. We have some pairs and some singles, but so fun to stop and remember when… There are 9 grandkids, so a huge variety.
Donna O. says
Ok, this might sound like a non-original idea but I love to put up the Christmas tree and the reason is on our tree is an ornament that represents the places we have visited and the things my kids were into that year. For example my now 12 yr old daughter got braces on last yr. so her ornament for 2009 was a smiling brace face girl. It is just so cute to see their faces as they take out “their” ornaments and they remember why they chose that one and they get to put it up. Every year I put their initials on it and the year so we don’t forget. Then on their wedding day I will bravely box them all up and give it to them to share with their new life. (That part I’m not ready for yet, but right now that is the plan)
Danisha says
It is an wooden snowman that my friend made me it is about 3 feet tall and is very early American looking. Love the look and love the one who gave it to me!
Barbara says
I decorate to the max for the holidays, so there are ton of things I put out every year–it would be hard to pick one favorite, but I guess if I had to choose one it would be my antique Santa collection.
Wendy Sue says
I have several nativity sets we put out each year – some are kid friendly, others are put up very high…they are my favorite! :o)
Joanne says
I always look forward to putting out two little wooden snowmen that were my grandmother’s….they always bring back lots of holiday memories.
jayne cannon says
The first year we were married, my wonderful husband bought me a Santa figurine. He knew I loved Santa as a little girl, and my dad – who had just passed away – encouraged us to believe in Santa, So he bought me a beautiful traditional Santa. From that first Santa my lovely collection grew. We have Santas from all over the world, and each one is a special part of our Chistmas celebration. Everyone loves to see the newest addition and how we bring him into the fold. Even on a sad Christmas a few years back when our holiday was spend on the road visiting my dying grandfather, the tree didn’t go up, but our Santas brought holiday joy to my family. THey’re more than a decoration in this home – these figurines of every shape and size are like family to us!
Charmaine says
I love to put up the tree…every year I get a new ornament to commemorate the year, so it’s fun to look at those each year and think back. It will be especially fun this year as we are in our new home.
Charmaine
Robyn W. says
This is such an amazing package!!! My favorite thing is probably the lights on the tree. The first time turning on the lights…it’s like magic! And it instantly brings that Christmas spirit into our hearts and home!
Amy O says
I always get sentimental over a beautiful musical snow globe my parents gave me the first Christmas after I got married. It’s a beautiful scene of the nativity, and it winds up to play “Silent Night.” I treasure it!
Julie S says
I love to sit out all of my snowmen, but I also enjoy hanging the homemade ornaments on the tree.
Anita Farrell says
My favorite piece of holiday decor is definitely the Nativity Set. I remember how much I loved the Nativity set that my grandmother had when I was growing up. Unfortunately, I don’t have my grandmother’s set, but the year my daughter was born, I bought a few pieces of a Fontanini set, and add to it each year. My daughter is 12 now, and it is always the first thing we unpack when we start decorating. It is one of my favorite Christmas traditions, and really helps us to start the season off right, by remembering the true reason we celebrate. Mary is even missing a hand from where my daughter nibbled on her that first Christmas. I hope that one day my grandchildren will get the same enjoyment from that set, and will be reminded both of family stories and Christ’s birth.
Denise says
My favorite holiday decor is our collection of lighted houses of the Dickens series. Sometimes I just put out some of them, but it always is fun to make little arrangements each year!
Geri Freeman says
My favorite would be my Fontanini nativity set. It’s so realistic and has such rich detail, complete with the inn, stable, market, town gate, palm trees, water for the cattle and too many other sweet little details to mention! Each year I look forward to setting the scene just the way I like it to remember the Savior’s birth. The best part is that my kids can handle the pieces and help me set it up, too, and I DON’T have to tell them not to touch it. We’ve temporarily lost Baby Jesus more than once! I know it will be a special tradition and memory for them as they grow up. What a great release! Thnks Nichole and DT, once again, for sharing your talent and inspiration!
Jen Adcock says
I love the crafty tree ornaments the kids have made over the years. Just priceless and so charming…no doubt utterly embarrassing for them to now that they are getting bigger. That’s what makes them sooooo very good.
Erica M. says
All the ornaments I have from my childhood. I love putting them on the tree along with my husband’s and my children’s growing collection of ornaments. They hold so many great memories of years past.
Mila says
I love putting the white icicle lights on my house! 🙂
diane mcvey says
It is a white velvet Santa, that was my Grandmother’s. She had it on the grand piano every Christmas, and we all marveled at it. I was lucky that I got it; I had the first great grandchild in the family, and she gave it to me. It’s really old, and very special. I love seeing that Santa every year!
Alisa Brown says
My favorite are the ornaments that I place on my christmas tree that were made by my children. Even though they are now thirty, looking at those ornaments reminds me of all the wonderfun christmas we had through out the years.
Maggie says
I have two handmade Mr. and Mrs. Claus ornaments from my grandma that I put on my Christmas tree front and center every year so I see them all the time and think of her 🙂
Laurel says
Stockings. Both my husband and I have handmade stockings with our names on them from when we were children.
Lacey says
Every year no matter what I like to put out an angel my grandma gave me. She means the world to me so of course the angel does as well. I try to get a tree out every year too…but living in an apt sometimes makes that difficult.
Katie Renz says
Well, for me its the stockings that my MIL handmade for each and every one of us all from fabric and trims that have lots of meaning from her family. I love them.
Christine McMullin says
When I was just a little girl, my grandpa bought me an angel ornament because it reminded him of me. The angel was fast asleep with her hands tucked under her cheek…and she had the craziest thatch of blonde hair that went every which way (very reminiscent of a troll doll). During my first year of marriage, my stepson pull out the angel to place it on the tree and exclaimed, “this looks just like those pictures of you that Grandma and Grandpa showed us from when you were a girl!”
LaurieJ says
Our tree. A fresh one. My husband and I trim the tree together and we have such fun rediscovering our ornaments each year. It’s an eclectic mix that we’ve collected over the years and each has special meaning.
Ruth Allmart says
I have a snowman card holder that I love to sit on my windowsill at Christmas time. It makes me smile every time I look at it and see all those cards from family and friends. Such a nice warm feeling 🙂
Shari Anderson says
Every year I put out a gourd that my mother decorated by cutting off the front and creating a beautiful church scene. I remember when she made it and I remember looking forward to putting it out every year when we decorated the house. The gourd is now about 50 years old and a little worn, but I love it as much as I did when I was 12!
Kathy Mook says
I collect Santas – they decorate my fireplace mantel each year. It is always the first thing I put up and the last that comes down.

Such a boring response, but our tree is definitely my favorite. Each ornament is special and I love being able to look at each one and remember where they came from.
Antoinette says
My absolute favorite thing to have out is the Nativity set my mother gave me after my oldest son was born (who was born December 13th). I live in a different state than the rest of the family so having that set out is like a daily reminder that my family is never really that far away.

A Christmas tree quilt that I display every year.

I especially enjoy seeing all the recent ornaments that my daughter and I have made together such as beaded snowflakes, glass ornaments, glitter balls, etc.. It makes me feel so good to see our tradition year after year.

Our christmas tree is the special decoration for me as it reminds me of our tree when we were growing up -I’m one of eight and Christmas was always so special. I still love it.
Tracey McNeely says
Every year I bring out a mantle swag that lays on top of my 8′ mantle. I made the swag when my children were babies with artificial fruits, berries and twinkling lights.
Janis says
Many years ago I was fortunate to take a trip to Israel. While there, I visited an olive wood factory in Bethlehem where I purchased a complete nativity set. It is most definitely my favorite Christmas decoration and it goes up every single year.

My daughter has always enjoyed making special Christmas gifts for me. Kim G says
To be honest I don’t have one favorite item that I put out year after year, I just put it all out and love it all. I do make Spice Cookies year after year and that is one of my favorite things.
Kimberly S says
My favorite holiday decor is the tree! We spend so much time every year picking the perfect tree. Putting on the lights always reminds me of how much fussing my grandpop had to do to get the lights work, and then we have stories and memories to share over most of the ornaments.
Kathy Miller says
The little wooden nativity set we got the first year we were married. Reminds me throughout the Christmas season why we celebrate.
Kathy says
My most meaningful decorations are the two ceramic trees that I display every year. My grandmother gave me one when I got married (42 years ago!) The other tree was a gift from my mother. Both special women are remembered always, but the welcoming light of the trees keeps them especially close at Christmas.
Vicki S. says
I put out my snowman decorations because I like cute, chubby snowmen. I have several that are tealight holders so they do double duty. Snowmen just put a smile on my face…which is always a good thing!!!
Marge Sexton says
Oh my; do I have to narrow that down to just one? We have many Christmas favorites at our house. My children all would choose a different piece, I would have to say my favorite is the Nativity, I do have several, but my favorite would have to be my Willow Tree Nativity that I got just last year, and it has a perfect spot on my mantel. Keeping the true meaning of Christmas as our focus.
Linda Hopton says
I collected snowflake ornaments a few at a time for many years until I finally had enough to do my tree with them. I love snowflakes!!
Marty B. says
I have dated ornaments that I must put on my tree each year. Unwrapping each one evokes memories that I cherish. Also the homemade ornaments by my children are included even though some are hanging by a thread. I have a Christmas plate that my daughter made 30 years ago, glued macaroni & spray painted gold…it’s priceless. Now for my granddaughter, I put a picture of her in a minature frame for each year & that goes on the tree. I make one for her also. I love creating these memories & feeling the love of Christmas through them.
Shay says
Christmas tree which is pretty obvious and unoriginal, but true. I love how pretty it is all shining and bright in the dark.
Rachel P. says
My favorite holiday item is probably a tie between two different advent calendars we have (we have several because we love counting down so much!)…one is a little 3-D Christmas tree that turns round & round playing Christmas carols, and underneath are 24 little drawers that each hold a miniature ornament. Each day you open the drawer and hang the little ornament on the tree. So cute! But the tie goes to an incredible, handmade calendar my grandma gave to us. The calendar itself, along with each figure that we hang up each day, was meticulously needle-point stitched. She worked on it for a year! Every day that we hang another piece, I think of how special it is because of the love she poured into it.
Michelle in MI says
I always hang a tree topper Angel that was my grandparents. As a child she was my favorite part of the Christmas Tree.It didn’t seem complete without her. Now every year that is the one thing that always brings back childhood memories around the holidays.
Renee D. says
My favorite decoration would have to be an advent calendar I have that has doors for each of the 25 days. I get to put something little in each “cubby.”
Kim Heggins says
Love the wreath set…it seems to fit this time of year!
Susan O says
A small figurine we put in our kitchen window every Christmas. It has 3 bears in holiday attire. It was a souvenir from a trip to San Diego and has great sentimental value!
Maureen P says
oh, you made it easy this time!! LOL My favourite holiday decor is the nativity scene I bought when we spent Christmas in Austin, Texas with my sister. My son, husband and I carried the 11 piece set onto the airplane and back to Canada 🙂 We had to open the Joseph box as his metal staff looked suspicious!! LOL
Kelly Braund says
Easy winner is a christmas carosel that my grandparents had up every year. My oldest son used to always ask for my grandpa to turn it on to watch the horses spin around and the music play. Now that my grandparents are gone, we have it up every year and now our youngest wants to watch it with the same wonder!
Sarah H. says
I have a set of picture frame stockings holders that I place on the mantle. The frames hold a 3″x3″ picture. Each year I print off my favorite picture of each kid from that year to update the holders. It’s fun to look through the stack of previous years’ pictures to see how much they’ve changed.
LisaL says
My favorite holiday decor items are my Christmas tree ornaments, which are a collection of trinkets from various places my family has visited and handmade items by my girls.
Deena says
Definitely our Christmas ornaments. EVERY one has special meaning. Either purchased on a trip or to commemorate an occasion (getting married, buying a house, getting a dog). We also have some that are from my high school and one from my childhood church.
As I put them on the tree, I think of those memories.
Jennifer L. says
Hmmm. I love the white lights on our tree, and our plate for Santa’s cookies. My daughter was just old enough last year to “get” Santa and the first thing she when she got up was to look if Santa had eaten his cookies. Thanks for the chance to win!
Tammy T says
My favorite decoration is a black iron snowman that holds 2 LB baskets. My sister gave it to me my first Christmas in our home,10 years ago.

We always put out a white ceramic nativity scene that’s backlit with tealight candles – that really signifies what I like to celebrate most about the holidays. Once the house is filled with the whole family, my holiday feels just perfect.

My nativity set. It was made in Israel and handcarved out of olive wood. It is unique and the craftsmanship is gorgeous. The fact that it was made in Israel, the home of Christ, makes it even more special.
Penny J. says
There are numerous things that I love from my Santa collection, to our tree, to the stockings. But my favorite are my Nativity sets. One in particular is rather small and made of stone. It is usually next to a small tree that is decorated with Baby’s Breath and tiny pine cones. The Nativity sets really bring home what Christmas is all about. Am sure that is why they tend to be my favorites.
Louise Brown says
Without a doubt, my nativity scene. That’s my main Christmas decoration.
Michelle Costelloe says
Despite the retailers’ best efforts to get me over and done with all things Christmas before it’s even here (by putting all their decorations out sooooo early, I mean…its barely September and the decorations are everywhere already!!) I still love it when I crack open my box of prized decorations for my home. My all time favourite is an ‘heirloom’ Nativity scene by WillowTree that my mother gave me a few years ago. I adore it and it takes pride of place in my living room.
What a great release Nichole!! So excited to go shopping for my next PTI box of loveliness. Mwah, Michey xxx

Oh wow…there are so many things to choose…
I would have to say my ‘Snowman Family’. My Hubby LOVES snowmen. So when we got married we started a Snowman Family. We have a snowman that represents everyone that lives in our house. Each year if the kids find one that they feel ‘represents’ them better we get it for them and use it with the rest of the family. It has been a fun way to celebrate the Holidays!
Kristen Carpinello says
My favorite holiday decorations are the ornaments that I had as a child. Once we left home, my parents gave each child their respective ornaments to put on their own tree. Every year I get that same warm fuzzy feeling as I carefully choose a spot for each one. Priceless!

My nativity scene is my absolute favorite. It’s plain white porcelain and I set it up with twinkle lights and angel hair. It’s so beautiful and it helps me remember the true meaning of Christmas.
Sandy Thelen says
I’d have to say the Christmas Tree. I love the way we use the same decorations each year, but it still looks different and prettier every year. I love to sit with all the lights off except the lights on the tree and listen to Christmas music and now that is something my son enjoys as well, making it a tradition for us.
Tami M. says
Our whole Christmas tree is full of handmade ornaments, including all of the ornaments that our son made over the years. He’s almost 22 now, but each year we have so many wonderful memories as we look at all the ornaments, each one is extra special.

The angel tree topper. Its the one I grew up with and is made of cardboard and lace and she has funny yellow hair….its seriously not elegant or even that beautiful but to me its precious.
Melissa Ladd says
We have a beautiful nativity set that was given to us as a wedding gift. My kids love to look at it!
Stacy W. says
Christmas stockings. I think they hold the wonder and joy of Christmas. As a child I remember them hanging on the mantle. Our names were hand stitched on them by our mom. Those came with us to each new house we made our home. My parents still have them and every Christmas they get hung on the mantle with all of our children’s stockings hung next to them. Great family tradtion and memories that I will have with me always!

Lisa Rasmussen says
My grandmother passed away three years ago and one of the last things she gave me were beautiful christmas ornaments. I love putting them up and since I recently got married my hubby and I make a big deal about decorating the tree. Hot chocolate, christmas music, and then we completely decorate the tree and tell stories about the ornaments. I love it and I am smiling just thinking about it!!!!
Vicky Schulte says
I always decorate with lots of lights but enjoy the nativity scene the most. It reflects on the reason for the season. Christmas all started with the baby Jesus in the manger.

I have a snowman collection that I love to display, and often keep it ou until March! (although to be gender neutral, I usually call it my “persons of snow” collection!)
Vanessa says
I love our tree! It even has a funny story to go with it. My husband and I decided to venture out the day after Thanksgiving to Walmart of all places. The icing on the cake was I was 8mths pregnant with out daughter. Needless to say it was crazy busy and I ended up sitting on that tree box as we waited in a mile on long line at 5am. We love decorating it and spending that time with our children but the way we “earned” our tree is always in the back of our minds.
Carole (FibreJunky) says
My favourite thing(s) to bring out are the kids’ birth year ornaments. The tree isn’t decorated until those are on. Every other decoration in the house may change, but those remain ever constant.
Kimberly says
My grandma used to make our families all sorts of holiday goodies. I was lucky enough to get one of her crocheted shelf elfs after she passed away. The elf looks a little weary and honestly is a little tacky (crocheted with a plastic face) but it makes me smile and think of her every time I put it out. I know she made it with love! The holidays are all about family – fond memories of the past and making new memories!
Nancy says
My mother’s nativity set. I remember it as a kid and how my mom used to say that if you wind up the music box all the way, it plays Silent Night so fast that it sounds like “Blow the Man Down.” :^) My mom died 34 years ago but is still a part of our lives. . . and at Christmas, remembering how she would say, “an ornament on every branch,” and “put the tinsel on one strand at a time,” is a fond tradition.
Amanda M. says
We have this blinking light snowman that we set out every year. I believe it is from Avon and is at least 15 years old. It is special to me because I remember it all throughout my childhood.

I think my favorite holiday decor is our fake Christmas tree with all of the ornaments and lights decorated on it. Most of the ornaments have a story behind them – whether handmade or to remember a certain event or how we got it or who gave it to us. The kids love looking at the tree and ornaments and remembering – our memory tree.
Leigh Ann says
We have two Christmas trees every year; a large one that is decked out with color coordinating decorations for our great room…and a small (5 1/2 ft) tree we put up in our family room. The small tree is full of hand made kid’s ornaments fashioned out of felt and paper and yarn. I also buy my each of my children a new ornament each year for their collections, and these also go on the tree. It is draped with colored lights and a dizzying array of colorful ornaments — literally every branch is used and some twice! Such great memories on that little tree!

Every single year, since we moved into our house, I’ve put a Christmas wreath on the front door – it’s beautiful, and I change out the decorations and the ribbon on it from time to time, but honestly, I LOVE how it just makes things warm and inviting, right at the front door! Nothing says holidays to me like a Christmas wreath.

I have 2 handmade angels that one of my aunts made. I never knew the aunts on my dad’s side very well, since my parents divorced when I was about 4 and I didn’t have much contact at all with my father’s family. But my Mom had the angel ornaments from years before, and knowing how I admired them so much, she gave them to me. They are made of some sort of crepe paper faces, with tiny details drawn on, and pipe cleaner legs, and dresses of lovely silk ribbon. But I love them since they were made by hand and they will always be really special to me.

For 48 years I always put out an old stable and manger nativity set. It was such a reverant moment when my boys were growing up and I knew they loved it also. However, I stopped decorating my home for Christmas when my last child and grandchildren moved to other states and I no longer remained at home for Christmas. One of my twin boys (now 49 years old)asked me for that old beat up stable and I gladly gave it to him. Now, when I visit his home during Christmas, I am amazed that something so old could be loved so much and mean so much to all of us at Christmas.

A hand-carved nativity set. The first year of our marriage, my husband and I decided we wanted a nativity set which our children could eventually play with, so he started carving one. Mary and Joseph were the first two to arrive that year. In the years that followed, he added piece after piece. For the past 20+ Christmas Eves, we have gathered around the table with that nativity set, each taking one or two pieces from the set, and we retell the Christmas Story acting out each scene. Our eight children love it and will never forget the true meaning of Christmas!

My favorite Christmas decor item is the small wooden nativity ornament I have had since I was a child. A very long time ago I put a small piece of gold garland in it to represent the hay, and to this day it remains in the ornament. I don’t even remember where the ornament came from, but it reminds of the specials moments I had each year with my mom decorating our family Christmas tree. I am now building & sharing those same memories (and that ornament) with my own young daughter. I hope she will cherish the memories as much as I do…………..

I think one of our favorite things are making handmade ornaments. We always have fun each year creating various themes for the tree that year. While we always use some old ornaments from the years past, I make a point of making new ornaments with everyone. It gives us something to look forward to and everyone contributes to the tree which is really nice. Last year we had a color theme- silver and gold. It looked great!
Krys Yealland says
We have a very special set of six Christmas baubles as well as a ‘szpica’ which sits on top of the Christmas tree (instead of a star or angel). These baubles belonged to my great grandmother, and are over 100 years old. The memories they evoke each year we hang them on the tree cannot be described.

The cross stitched stocking that I made my daughter. I lot of love (and hours) went into the stocking. I started stitching it when I was pregnant, so the hope and joy that is prevalent during that time can be felt in the stocking. It is also one of the few things I would grab if my house were on fire.
Chrissy Le says
We always put out our shiny Thomas ornaments every year. Doesn’t matter if we change themes or decor colors, our ornaments stay the same. We want certain things to be a tradition, not trendy.

Our Advent Wreath. We put it out in our formal dining room and it is full of fresh pine which makes the room smell so wonderful. And every Sunday before lighting a candle on the wreath we sing Christmas songs, some that are fun for the kids and some that are about the true meaning of Christmas. I made a song book last year so we have it all in hand every time we sing…… and of course I used PTI Rustic Cream card stock!!!

One thing our family loves to do is to take at least one picture of the whole family each year around the holidays. It doesn’t matter whether we are at home in NYC or away. We always take a photo and everyone replaces their old photos on their desks or at work with the new one. Its great that as both kids get older, it is still something we can all do together.

It is my Christmas Tree, however it has been up consecutively for 10 plus years. When we moved here there was a mirror wall up to ceiling above the fireplace. We had a half tree and hung it from the ceiling (14 ft) placing crochet snowflakes on it. The mirror reflects the tree to look like a full tree.
Once in a blue moon I take it down to dust it.
LeAnn says
We have a Nativity that was made by DH’s Uncle. The Nativity is made from wood that he rescued from DH’s grandparents barn from their homestead just before his grandmother passed away. What a fitting way for the old family barn to live on! It will forever house our baby Jesus.

I’m cheating a little with this answer, but my favorite decorations are my tree ornaments. I buy ornaments as souvenirs everywhere we travel. We’re a retired military family and I started buying ornaments when we lived overseas and ornaments were a inexpensive way to remember all the trips we took. I’ve kept it up and now my close friends and family bring me ornaments as souvenirs. Some years I only get a couple of new ones, and some years there are many. It’s a fun reminder of the places we’ve been and the friends we’ve made over the years.
Jackie R says
Oh I don’t know if I can pick one! I think it would have to be the little village my mom sets up every year. She does three different areas of the house…the dinning room, the mantle in the living room, and the kitchen bow window!

I just made it home from work in time for the fun tonight!!! YAY!!! I think tradition at our home revolves around food:) We always make such a traditional dinner for our house and everyone has come to expect it. For me, the smell of the beef cooking and the dessert brings back such wonderful memories from years past. Generally everyone gets together and cooks it which is so nice. We live in a place where there is a lot of take out food, and getting together to cook a meal one day a year is a really special thing.

My mother purchased this set of music boxes from a catalog when I was a little girl and each music box plays a different, beautiful song and is decorated with a wintery scene. I fondly remember waiting each year for December 1st to come so we could pull out all of the Christmas decorations, but those four little music boxes were the true joy for me. I’d wind them up and listen as we began the decorating for the season. Now, the music boxes are mine and I hope one day to have children of my own who enjoy the tiny musical treasures as much as I do.

I use a pre lit christmas tree as it is easier to take care of but I do love the smell of the fresh cut trees.

Making ends meet can be a difficult task for any single mom. With the endless flow of expenses ranging from your child’s tuition fee to their clothes, it can never hurt to have more money to cover such expenses. In order to enable yourself to receive a higher salary, you need to have a solid academic background. If you already don’t, it’s still not too late. Single moms might find it challenging to rear children and receive an education at the same time, but it is not an impossible task.
