I am excited to introduce the second edition of our ongoing Year of Flowers Collection today. (If you missed the original announcement about this series, you can read all about it HERE). Daffodils are the flowers for March, representing sunshine and renewal. I don't know about you, but we are definitely ready for some nice spring weather here in the south and these daffodil images remind me that it's right around the corner!
The daffodil images in this set are large-scaled, allowing you to fill a card front in a matter of minutes. With coloring and paper piecing opportunities, you will find an endless array of uses for these images.
- Year of Flowers: Daffodils will be available for purchase on March 15th. Due to a quality control issue that was just discovered by our manufacturer, the release of this stamp set will be delayed by approximately a week. We will keep you updated via our newsletter as to when it will become available.
- It will retail for $15.
- It contains a total of 6 stamps (1 large stemmed daffodil, 1 single daffodil bloom and 4 sentiments).
- The sentiments are interchangeable and have the same styling as Year of Flowers: Violets.
I am excited to show you what I have put together for you today using this set. Let's get right onto the projects, shall we?
(click on the above photo for a larger view)
First, I thought I would start with a traditionally colored daffodil that utilizes Copics. One of the things I love about this particular project is it's horizontal orientation. With an image this tall, your first inclination would be to stand it upright on a vertical card. But his project showcases that this image can be way more versatile than that.
Here's a closeup of the Copics used here, all Papertrey Copic Trios… Lemon Tart, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Terracotta Tile & Ripe Avocado. I have found that by adding a really dark center to the "cup" of the flower, you get a more realistic look, so keep that in mind as you color your own versions.
The sentiment is from the daffodils set as well. I stamped it with Noir Palette ink onto our Stamper's Select Vellum Cardstock and trimmed it into a strip. I adhered it in place and then added some decorative stitching underneath it using my sewing machine.
I drew a black border around the card front using a ruler and my Pigment Pro pen from American Crafts. It needed just a little more "umph" so I traced the outside edge of the frame with a 2-way glue pen and sprinkled on some Prisma Glitter. I'm totally in love with how this project turned out!
(click on the above photo for a larger view)
For this card, I decided to do a little paper piecing. You'll notice that this project is not only vertically oriented, but it also has a distressed, vintage feel, whereas the previous project was much more clean and modern. I love that about these Year of Flowers sets, they really can be compatible with nearly anyone's style!
I stamped the large daffodil twice, once onto Lemon Tart Bitty Dot paper and a second time onto Ripe Avocado Friends 'Til the End paper. I then carefully cut them out just outside of the lines.
Here is the card base I created to go along with my pieced daffodil. It's created with two layers of kraft cardstock. The mat layer has been stamped with a new set for this month, Distressed Stripes (more about this later on this week!) using Vintage Cream ink. Don't you just love the look of that plaid! It makes me SO happy! 🙂
I added a bit of the Tea Dye Duo around the edges of the daffodil pieces to give it a warmer feel. I also used the Papertrey Copic marker Summer Sunrise Trio to color the center of the daffodil to give it a bit more definition. I love the bitty dots on the daffodil bloom… so cute!
Lastly, the sentiment I added is from Handwritten Notes. It is stamped in True Black ink and filled the lower corner of the project perfectly. Just think of all the fun versions of this card that you could make using a variety of patterned papers!
(click on the above photo for a larger view)
I wanted to showcase one more use for this new set. There is a single daffodil bloom (without a stem or leaves) that is included, perfect for creating background patterns. This project showcases just that, as well as an unexpected color scheme for a daffodil set!
It all started with the single daffodil bloom and Plum Pudding ink. I stamped the flower all over the vintage cream base, building a beautiful background.
I then stamped the smallest dots from Polka Dot Basics II on top of the floral pattern using Lavender Moon ink. I love how this added a slightly modern feel to the design and helped take up some of the empty space without being too overwhelming.
I attached the patterned piece to a Plum Pudding card base and added a bit of stitching with my sewing machine.
I finished the project with some loops of Plum Pudding Grosgrain ribbon along with the Fillable Frames #1 stamp & die. The sentiment is from Take Note, and I think it worked perfectly for this particular project! It's stamped in Smokey Shadow ink, a nice neutral to go along with these shades of purple I think. What a combination!
Doesn't all of this daffodil goodness just make you want spring to hurry up and arrive in all it's glory? 🙂 We would love to hear your impressions of the Year of Flowers collection and specifically the new daffodils. At first glance, I didn’t think I would wanted the violets set, but the variety of samples I have seen is truly changing my mind. And the $15 price point is so reasonable for such a versatile set.
I wasn’t sure about the idea of a daffodil set until I saw the samples tonight. So glad to see the card with the horizontal orientation. Usually we do think of vertical cards when it comes to daffodils. lol… The stitching is such a special touch. I like how the daffodil looks stamped on the patterned paper.
So glad that you used fillable frames #1 on the last card even though it was from last month’s release. I didn’t think I needed it till I saw Maile’s amazing card so of course, I ordered both the die and set in my order last week.
Thanks for the giveaway!
