With the popularity of the original Spooky Sweets last year, I decided to bring you a second edition with a new style & look along with even MORE possibilities! To showcase this set to the fullest, I have asked all of the design team members to participate in today’s post. We are hoping to provide you with several fun ideas that you can use this Halloween as treats for friends, family, teachers, co-workers or classmates!
The pages of Family Fun magazine brought me inspiration for my project today. I made these adorable Mini Candied Apples and did a test run on my own kids and they LOVED them! (You can find the complete recipe & instructions on the Family Fun website HERE) To make them, you just use a melon baller and scoop out balls from around a Granny Smith apple. You then melt peanut butter chips and dip the apple balls in. Before the melted peanut butter chips harden onto the apple, you have the opportunity to dip them in fun toppings like shredded coconut, crushed nuts or candies, or even chocolate sprinkles! Yum!

Packaging a little set of three of these sweet treats seemed to be the perfect thing to give adults (or kids) as a little something special for this spooky holiday! I decided to make a tray that could insert into one of our large kraft window coffee bags. I cut a piece of Summer Sunrise cardstock into a rectangle measuring 4.75 x 8.25 inches. I then used my Scor-Pal to score 1.25 inches on each of the four sides.
………………………………………………………………………………
I drew cross marks on the center back of the tray in pencil. By using scotch tape, I placed one of the circle Nestbailities into place in the very center of the tray first. Ran it through my machine to cut. I then moved it to the appropriate area on either side of the center hole to create the remaining two holes. To figure out your hole size, hold the paper candy cups you are using to set the mini candied apples in against the various Nestabilities until you find one that they will tuck nicely into.
…………………………………………………………………………….
After the holes are die cut, you can fold the tabs and clip the corners to create the sides of the tray.
………………………………………………………………………………
The completed tray holds it’s own perfectly!
………………………………………………………………………………
Now to decorate the bag! I stamped a strip of cardstock using the spider web image from Spooky Sweets II. I loved how easy it was to interlock the images as I built my pattern. The Summer Sunrise stitched ribbon got looped at either side of the central label and held in place with glitter brads from Making Memories.
………………………………………………………………………………
The focal point features a layering of two images from this set. A beautiful witch with flowing hair and a label declaring the contents of the package spooky sweets. The oval Nestabilities really framed the images nicely.
………………………………………………………………………………
Now hold onto your broomsticks! Here’s what the rest of the team created!
………………………………………………………………………………
Lisa Johnson created a wonderful wrap for Trident gum. It is sturdy enough that it could be kept in the recipients backpack or purse for a few weeks after Halloween as a reminder of your thoughtfulness!
……………………………………………………………………………..
Debbie Olson wrapped a box of Cracker Jacks. I loved the way that she did everything on an angle. It really helps to modernize the look! The color scheme is just fabulous too!
……………………………………………………………………………..
Niki Estes used one of our Nugget Tins to hold licorice, Black Cat Licorice to be specific. Her tiny cats that she created with polyshrink serve as the perfect hanging accents!
………………………………………………………………………………
Lauren Meader made a witch’s brew of eerie edible eyeballs! (check out her blog for the recipe!). Her label layering with use of the cat image is just stunning. And what a neat presentation!
………………………………………………………………………………
Dawn McVey crafted this super simple, mass-produceable take-out box with a tag holding *dark* chocolate for the holiday. These would be fabulous as little party favors since their so easy to duplicate!
………………………………………………………………………………
Michelle Wooderson used one of the trendy clear paint cans to house a caramel apple kit. It holds an apple and some special ingredients to make the apple just a bit sweeter! Be sure to check out her blog for the details on it’s contents!
……………………………………………………………………………..
Genevieve Cassady created a fun cupcake wrap using the set. She placed a plastic spider on top upside down to appear as if he were dead, which supports the sentiment “eat at your own risk”!
……………………………………………………………………………..
Heather Nichols crafted these incredibly cute glassine bag treats. I love how she stamped the spider webs in white on the bags. That paired with the translucency of the bags has an eerie look! The orange sparkle of glitter is a wonderful touch too!
……………………………………………………………………………..
Becky Oehlers made a *cookies in a jar* gift, complete with a special recipe card on top. You will have to make sure to stop by her blog to see additional shots of the project.
…………………………………………………………………………….
After all of that, I am sure you are ready to begin planning your own projects for the upcoming holiday! Spooky Sweets II provides many sentiments to serve as a jumping point for you and your creativity as you try to create clever & quick treats for those you care about! I hope you have enjoyed today’s presentation! Please be sure to stop by all of the design team members blogs and thank them for sharing their AWESOME creativity with you today!
